We used to run a scenario where you spawned in the middle of the map, surrounded by 4 Quickdraws. It was a tough situation for any pilot. I beat it with a Phoenix Hawk LAM, but even a Daishi would get mauled!
it must be said that, it wasnt a direct replacement for the rifleman as an AA platform it was a replacement because rifleman pilots kept pushing it into frontline combat, where it was not meant to be also personally, i think if you take the 5A, remove the SRM4, and use the saved tonnage for more coolant and armor you got a pretty good mech
Good stuff! I just found you channel, today. I like what you're doing. I'm going to be getting back into Battletech novels soon. These are easy to follow and fun overviews of these mechs. Keep it up!
Didn't realize it till now, but I feel the comment about jumping around the battlefield like a grasshopper on crack is a bit interesting, since there's actually a mech called the Grasshopper.
"solid balance" of firepower, mobility, and protection... More like priority target. Like a battle cruiser of old, enough firepower to draw big guns but not enough armor to keep it alive.
yeah, that's what happened with the HBS Battletech. It's a primary target because it can dish out a bunch of damage if left unchecked, but also can't take a hit. Add in the fact that the AI seems to have targeting preferences for certain mechs, Quickdraw's just one of the ones that's better never to field.
Most people who hate on the Quickdraw are too busy snuggling their Rifleman dakimakura to think about how much their mecha waifu under performs. Realistically, it's a fast trooper or heavy scout, but still overweight. Given that you can put all of that, including the rear mounts, into a 55 ton mech and have more armour, it is silly, but you can build ANY 60 ton mech as a successful 55. 50 tons breaks even for the weapons and armour. And if you have DHS, you can build it at 45 tons with ten freezers and marginally less armour. The Quickdraw isn't the problem, it's the obsession with the Rifleman which forced the Quickdraw to be a heavy not a medium mech.
I think "overweight medium" is a better description. The entire loadout (armor, weapons, jump jets, heat sinks) would fit on a 50 ton chassis perfectly (same speed). If you drop the two rear firing lasers, everything else could fit on a 45 ton chassis.
@@starsiegeplayer you have nailed the underlying problem with this 'Mech. It's redundant. You could, in fact, pack the same firepower onto a Jenner plus a Locust 5-M.
I would put the text to one side of the screen and the mech picture to the opposite side. The load out is impossible for me to read on my cellphone. Good video though especially good audio quality. You've got a new subscriber.
I would echo this as well, not sure how versatile you're editing program is, but even adding a contrasting text outline around the letters would help a lot with the white background and white text and may be easier than moving text and pictures around. Enjoy the content and thanks for taking the time to produce these.
Really surprised you don't have more subscribers. I enjoy this content greatly because I can watch it before work without too much of a time investment. For example I've wanted to watch the new Tex video but two hours is just a lot of time to invest.
I have to wonder who in their right mind thought this thing was gonna replace the Rifleman. It had entirely the wrong armament for that role, and in that respect I see it more as a competitor against the Dragon than anything else. Personally, what I'd do with this thing is reorient the two rear-facing medium lasers to also point forward and replace the SRM-4 and its ammunition with an LRM-5 and an extra ton of LRMs. I've unofficially dubbed this refit the QDG-4S. Also, that dig at "old Rifleman pilots" at around 4:28? The Rifleman had the exact same gimmick, intended to make up for the inability of an anti-air mech to rotate its torso 360 degrees.
I always find some parts of its lore to be baffling... "It was intended as a replacement to rifleman"... And I wonder... HOW?! Both mechs are not even in the same ballpark when it comes to loadout and role. Rifleman is a medium-long range direct fire support with its primary firepower being dual AC-5 and dual Large Lasers - both weapons having their medium range at ~10 hexes. It is basically an early sniper mech - a walking turret, basically. Quickdraw's only longer range weapon is LRM-10, and its remaining weapons have a medium range value of 4-6 hexes. This thing is a mobile attacker. They have two very different niches in combat.
I don't much care for the Quickdraw but it isn't a bad mech. It's just I'm used to it being in the PC Battletech game were each weapon has it's own accuracy check; so a huge amount of medium lasers is less effective then one AC/20.
How does the Quickdraw fill the Rifleman's niche? All they have in common seems to be light armor for a heavy, and shoot-behind Impressive to get shoot behind while also keeping LLAs and hands though.
LRM was probably built as an anti air equipment. Since the rifleman also was designed for anti air. But as much of a stretch as that is, it did fail to replace it. Perhaps the original designers claimed it could beat the rifleman as a publicity stunt
Do you want to know why the lyrans like it so much and fight hard to keep this mech to themselves? Just read the following: One time an atlas used a commando as a throwing grenade. It worked quite well. And from that day on, they still throw commandos around, hoping to hit something. Oops, I mistook the quickdraw with the commando.
Cellular Ammunition Storage Equipment doesn't make internal ammo explosions more difficult for your enemy when he is trying to core your mech like a half starved bum all over an apple, C.A.S.E. just deflects that inevitable inside *KABOOM* away from your mech's more poppable guts, i.e. it's cold fusion reactor, other stores of ammo, gauss cannon ultra/super/mega/not-your-garden-variety capacitors and anything else inside your mech that might inflate suddenly and uncontrollably with "UH-OH" consequences when hot sharp stuff decides to get all touch-y feel-y with your robot vehicle's inner child. Understand?...because if you do, could you explain to me what I just typed? I think I might have veered off course just a tad and lost my train of thought like that one scene in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (
Yep... used to HATE having a Quickdraw in the lances I worked with in the 1990's. Good for garrison duty, guarding assets that no one is willing to steal...but other than that... load it up with Med Lasers and SRMs and let it support Urbanmechs in cityscapes.
Gods what a crap mech. It's not fast enough for a light mech hunter killer, and against heavier mechs it dies quick due to its paper thin armor. Also, rear firing weapons are a waste. They don't have accurate fire, and aren't enough of a deterrent. Besides, if you're having to fire at a foe behind you, you're doing something wrong.
Ah yes, my favorite lance. Quickdraw, Gunslinger, Clint, and Enforcer.
"It would be half as long as a Tex video."
Ouch, dude. Shots fired.

this is great content man you will make it far if you keep bring the good humour

Uh....the old school Rifleman also allowed 360 degree arc on the arms if I'm not mistaken.....
Correct. The quickdraw arm rotation is unusual because it still has lower arm actuators (elbows).
In MW5 it looks like a mix between a boxer and a housefly. I love the rumble-bug.
Good stuff!

The Quickdraw is just a plus sized medium mech
"solid balance" of firepower, mobility, and protection... More like priority target. Like a battle cruiser of old, enough firepower to draw big guns but not enough armor to keep it alive.

Another great video! The Quickdraw gets alot of bad press but its speed has saved my bacon more than a few times.

The Quickdraw feels more like a heavy medium

Love the humor in your videos! Keep it up!
New to the channel and loving it so far!
It's a faster, less well armored, and equally armed Guillotine.
Decent Mech, the HBS BATTLETECH does not do it any justice. Mediums and even the better lights can absolutely rock this mech with no problem.

I would argue that if anyone could understand the Quickdraw's gimmick, it would be Rifleman pilots.
This thing is a damage pinata that's even worse than most 50 ton mediums

It's not awful, but the default armament is no better than a Jenner + a Locust 5M.
Not a big fan of lostech eh?
A crap mech. Bad armor bad heat management and out gunned by several mediums
