I like your primer videos here. They're like a cross between Black Pants Legion insane in depth mech reviews, and the Sarna narration of the Grimdark Narrator, both of with i love.
Hey! The RAC 5s were awesome. If ugly mechs are an issue, take the circus over to Fire Moth territory, where the only Mech shown in pre-surrender mode can be seen. Or to the Shadowhawk, in case you liked your Mechs built with LEGO Or the Jenner...because...look at it.
Honestly Im personally convinced that the real reason for the Unseen being like they were is that, in their scramble to follow the wave of Mech aquisition and production spam, various companies rolled through what old Terran cartoons and series they could find and just...pulled out whatever looked like it could work. Then built a mech around it.
The fact that companies in battletech where so overfunded / insane to just decide to make mechs based off of Macross and other series is just...peak hillarity.
The rifleman was one of the "unseen" BattleMechs until they redid the art finally. It was from the Macross series I think. So I don't know why the claim that it was an original design. In a sense all of the once "unseen" tied up in the lawsuit were all original designs in that the specs were made for the BattleTech game but FASA licensed some artwork designs to save them time and money but Harmony Gold did the same thing and for various complicated legal use reasons the lawsuit was on.
@@bombomos found it. It was originally the Destroid from Macross. No major character piloted one, they were just part of the mecha defending the Macross internally.
While I agree that the Reseen art is a little off putting, I feel that’s compensated by the RACs. I mean they’re autocannons that do the spinny thing and make the BRRRRT noise!
There are more interesting variants, one of my favorites being the 3c. You got two ac10s in the arms. With two tons of reloads. It does the opposite of the jagermech, that being close range fire support and hitting hard with few shots.
Not going to lie, I started looking at the 9T's loadout and really liking it only to hear you say "making it the perfect weapon for cowards".......ok, fair enough. Lol. Nice video :)
>Jaegermech >It dies just as easy >It still overheats >It does ~the same damage >It costs more >"""superior""" Nice opinions. *Shame they're wrong, though.*
I found the original version to have not enough heat sinks, ammo or armor The ammo was not big a problem as it seemed because with only 8.5 tons of armor your mech was usually out of action before it became a problem
I like the rifleman "Diana" in MW5. There isn't much that can survive 2 gauss cannons to the face. I feel that this variant is the best because you don't ever overheat and have plenty of ammo.
Riflemen have worryingly low armor, and the jagermech makes it even worse. Sacrificing almost all of the armor to fit two more autocannons and ammo to replace two lasers.
The 2N has the hint of possible greatness. Just needs the mass of the 3N to have decent levels of heatsinks and armor. Aka roughly what the Warhammer and Maraduer mount in those 2 categories respectively. 18 heatsinks and 11.5 tons of armor is solid in the introtech era for a 60 ton platform
The rifleman is the bolt action rifle of heavy mechs. It’ll hit its target at any range every time but it’s limited so much by the advancements of time that it’s not really good for anything but long distance shooting, hunting things that can’t hurt it, or for old men who can’t figure out how to use something more modern. Yeah I have a few in reserve for those cases of sniping and aerospace repellent but they’re the last thing I’d try to take into the thick of fighting and mostly bought them because they’re cheap as hell and help fill out the spaces for new pilots who are better shooters than pilots. (Seriously you’d be amazed how many guys put stock in their shooting ability above any other skill these days on New Vandenberg!). As for me, if I want to have a decent mech for shooting long range, I’ll stick with either a Warhammer. Though I’d prefer to just go in heavy with my TBolt. Nothing funnier than watching my enemies shit their pants when they realize that salvo of LRMs did Jack shit to me and just ruined the paint job.
I like the rifleman. You need to sit in the back, shoot the autocannons and large lasers one at a time, and the medium lasers only used when getting run up on. It’s very usable in that respect.
For the classic Rifleman, I think I'd actually rather drive a Jagermech. The half ton of lost armor compensates for being able to continuously fire my long range weapons compliment 20 times in a row without baking. In a level 1 battlefield, the range and plink damage can add up. Just keep your distance and have a Hunchback or a Thunderbolt on hand to distract them and soak up damage. Even on a later battlefield, it isn't a bad buy for 900ish BV.
Many pilots love the Rifleman. Love is blind, irrational, and often leads to firey death. Honestly, I am tempted to issue a batchall for having so many nice things to say about the Rifleman.

That gif from Macross is great because both settings could have conceivably had that happen.
Good to see another Battletech channel. :)
Cannot have too many 🙂.

One must be thankful the Jenner and Locust didn't have their names and roles switched. So many bad jokes about the CT laser being removed there.
The Shadow Hawk is Beautiful and the Jenner is a scary little son of a bitch

Who pilots a Rifleman style mech in Macross?? I don't remember anything looking like that
@@bombomos found it. It was originally the Destroid from Macross. No major character piloted one, they were just part of the mecha defending the Macross internally.
The Riflemen; because the enemy's air force needs to be reduced to the past tense.
--Kallon, maybe.

But they're flinging tank-sized shells at people instead of just 30mm.
I mean ALL autocatnnons do bursts, hell just look at how the Victor's AC20 was a sandpaper BRRT in Sword and Dagger and the Warrior Trilogy.

2:24 okay now you got me on your channel, the first time I've ever heard sunk-cost referenced in battle text 😀.
Really enjoyed, especially as I just finished reading Engarde which features the Rifleman..

Thing is, for less than the cost of a single Rifleman you can field a pair of 80-ton Partisan Tanks with 4 AC/5's apiece! Now that's a lot of dakka!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!

I always loved the look and firepower of the mech but no armour :-( with just a bit more speed or armour itd be one of my favourites :-)
Kickstarter waves, batchalls, condoms, you got some great zingers in this one mate
The 8D got to shine in that animation that came out semi-recently.
Sounds like this guy hates the Rifleman
Most experienced BattleTech players do
The Rifleman attempts to do too much with too little tonnage.
Loving the Battletech!

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I don't remember a Rifleman style looking mech in the Macross/Robotech franchise

Apparently called the Destroid Defender.

Silence, Clanner. No one cares what you think.
Th 3N has mediums, not smalls.
The RFL-3N had 2 medium lasers not 2 small lasers.
Rifleman with 2 RAC's is sick as hell. I don't know what your issue is with it.
I can't wait for the Clan Direct Fire Star from the Mercs KS, so that I can _be_ that asshole that puts one on the table. 🤪
"Now we can move on."
Nope
they stole it from macross
While the Rifleman is horrible in combat, it's original design was meant to be a mobile anti-aircraft platform.
nice one
It’s a gundum
Decent view keep it up.

Eh one's meant to be informative about the whooole history surrounding the mech these are more neatly focused. I like both styles.
