Yeah, which is of course why REM went with the "I don't really do anything with reddit" line in the interview and why she emphasized it was a "friend" of catalyst running it now and not an employee. Gotta cover their tracks.😔
Their blocking campaign is the biggest thing that turned me against Catalyst. I was an avid supporter of the company before that, but silencing your most loyal customer base for nothing is inexcusable.
The problem is they can wreck the franchise going forward to the point that the old stuff is it and there is no future. Effectively killing it. Like certain star franchises I will remember fondly, but there is now never going to be anything new worth watching.
@@arrgylerawrgyle3784 That's already happened, really. Look how many people just stop at 3067 because they hate the Dark Age. Hell, CGL's refusal to retcon that is the reason I never gave them the time of day in the first place.
They really don't have a choice, there's enough copyrighted material on Sarna that Catalyst could have it taken down if they want. Of course this would severely damage the community of and eliminate a big asset that's been helping it grow by making up for Catalysts own poor line management and sourcebook design, but Catalyst has demonstrated they're always ready to shoot themselves in the foot if it makes the right people happy.

I love how the “play nice” only works one way. The politics only goes one way. I knew this was going to happen when Battletech got bigger and lots of 40k refugees got in the game and look what happens
@@InquisitorJack It was obvious it was going to happen, given that a lot of the people in 40k rn are refugees from the Star Wars, Star Trek, and Dr. Who fandoms. And the pink haired nutjobs are just going to keep doing it, because the IPs aren't the point to them. Going after *us* is the point.
The fact that I'm seeing weirdos and tourists in here trying to provoke a reaction and simp for CGL means they did a good job memory-holing the Frank Trollman scandal/Porchgate and their history of not paying freelance authors and writers (Fun fact! Im a Shadowrun-fan that went into 6e first but loved the Snes and Genesis game before. I never asked for Fox-furries and the lack of the dirty grungy streets and mystery of Seattle . CGL was even horribly bad with 5e Shadowrun which was a total wreck too but no one wants to admit it . I alone fixed 6e and bought adventure books from older editions (3e and 4e exactly) because the newest Shadowrun stuff alone is rancid trash . CGL is and was horrible overall.

well their actual products are great as far as minis go (best offering in the market since the metal ones are dated as hell designs, and 3D prints tend to be based off the overly blocky MWO models + often have printing defects). But look beyond what they sell and yeah there is clear rot going on, and its but a matter of time before it spills out in their models somehow for my part, the only thing I still want from them is the madcat mk4 if the model is better than the 3D prints I have (and even here they will shit the bed by sending it pre-painted), in which case i'll just buy it second hand. For the rest, they have nothing on offer I want or need anymore, and I sure dont feel like supporting them out of the goodness of my heart either.
Gotta thank Rem for helping me avoid wasting more money on BT until the IP change hand. 10/10 customer friendly marketing manager, making our wallet heavier instead of lighter. Fanfic will sustain my craving for Battletech story and AC6 + Mass Builder will sustain my love for mech tinkering.

Rem being head of marketing and battletech having zero advertising and like one half of a shelf in barnes and noble tells you all you need to know about how incompetent he is.
My local Barnes and Noble has Battletech stuff, in one corner of the bottom shelf. The rest of the shelf is DnD sourcebooks.... What great marketing you have with B&N Catalyst. /s
The Algorithm fed me this video. All I know about this issue is from the video. But... knowing large and disorganized organizations, I can tell you I'm not surprised that marketing wasn't informed of an upcoming release. Since he's relatively new, I'm not surprised that he didn't go asking around, because he probably assumed Marketing would be told. He knows better now and hopefully raised heck in the background. He doesn't have to love the product or know everything about it, if he's a good professional, it isn't necessary. It takes time to get a handle on the organization, where the problems are and who you have to talk to to fix it. My biggest concern is Catalyst or BT will get bought by Hasbro and then it's all over.
At this point I'm completely done with anything CGL. The only thing I will consider is maybe a rulebook here or there through a local store. All my BT energy is going to supporting people that actually like the hobby and universe.
I started in BattleTech in 1990. I own almost every map ever printed, over 300 mechs, and dozens of other models. I kept getting people to play through its lulls. I obviously love throwing money at the franchise. But I could never buy another mini from them for the rest of my life, and not be short models. I can wait out the cancer. Also 3d printer, so... not missing out on anything. Thanks for saving me money, Catalyst! Morons!
Is it just me, or is 'Trans Rights or I Bites' technically a threat of political violence? Or does it get a pass because its on a work of fiction? Anyway, I swore off CGL after the BLP firing, so Im going to stay the course. Still hunting for the old Sourcebooks.

I am still getting radio silence with my kickstarter. But they do note they are expecting it to be filled out the same month as Gen Con. My guess is that you will not get the stuff before Gen Con, but instead, somehow coincide the two together, and they probably will be selling the products there as well. Pure speculation. But it would seem to fit.

Yup, the kickstarter thing with B&N getting the stuff about 4 months to half a year early is not going to sit well I expect. KS backers tend to get outright furious if they aren't first to receive. Other than that, I can say as a retailer, Catalyst's choices are rather frustrating since I have watched Shadowrun go from a great seller to a non-seller and I have been waiting over half a year to restock the Inner Sphere Command Lance at this point. Mage Leader perhaps you can shed some light on my plight, given your vast knowledge of the subject. I had photos taken down from this sub reddit because I had painted one of my companies a light pink. The company was called The Pink Panthers, and its back story was that the company was a fast raiding force from a desert world. My question is, WHY? While this was removed for being "polictical", the inspiration for the company colour scheme was based on the British SAS Pink Panthers which they used in desert warfare. I even included the line "colour scheme was inspired by the SAS Pink Panthers". Pink Panthers served in the regiment from late 60s until mid 80s. The SAS had found that the light pink was a good camoflage in the desert, particulary at dawn and dusk. Another company I had pics of, which were not taken down, included the line "colour scheme inspired by late WWII german army". These mechs were painted in the tri colour scheme used by the German army in late WWII. Each mech in this company had leg and shoulder numbers representing their place in the company ranging from 111 to 134. These numbers were based on the practice of German panzers using turret numbers to indcate who was who. First number being company, second being platoon (or lance in this case) and the final number being the position in the platoon/lance. This company was called 21st Panzer Company, and the company emblem was the "barred D" of the 21 Panzer Division. Again the pics of this company, despite links to a real world unit that fought in North Africa under Rommel and also North Western Europe during the D-Day invasion, were not taken down! Three other companies, and two clan trinaries worth of mechs were all considered fine. Most of my companies/trinaries had their own colour schemes drawn from real world historic untis or camo schemes, and each included a line entry indicating what had inspired the colour scheme. None of these companies/trianaries pics were taken down. One of these companies, The Blood Splatter Boys, were white with blood red splatter across the white background. The pics of this company included the line "colour scheme inspired by blood splatter analysis photos in shows like CSI". Another company, The Lumbering Circus, had each of its twelve mechs painted in unique bright colour, so all twelve mechs were of a differnet colour, and included the line "colour scheme inspired by WWI JG1 The Flying Circus". My final IS company, The Night Haunters, used the colour scheme of my favourite Warhammer 40K Chaos Legion, The Night Lords. The pics of this company included the line "colour scheme inspired by Night Lords Chaos Legion 40K". My Clan Wolf trinary, Trinary Battle, 7th Wolf Guards, used an Urban camoflage as its inspiration, and the pics of the trinary included the line "colour scheme inspired by my Urban camo BDU". I chose this because I felt it gave my Wolf mechs a colour scheme that made me think of real world wolves. My Smoke Jaguar trinary, Trinary Battle, 9th Jaguar Dragoons, I had painted to represent smoke rising from a fire. The pics of this trinary included the line "colour scheme inspired by photos of a waste recycling centre fire". The idea of smoke rising from a fire seemed fitting for Smoke Jaguars to me. WWII German, fine. Blood splatter, fine. WWI German, fine. 40K import, fine. Urban camo BDU, fine. Burning building, fine. Cold war SAS, not fine. If light pink was good enough for the most most elite regiment in the British army, why was it not suitable for a sub reddit post? As it was the moderators taking down anything that they found "in breach of the rules", in this case "polotics" then there is some validity to why people were/are upset. I was upset. There was nothing political about what I was posting. It was just my various mech companies/trinaries and what sources I drew from in painting them. In total I had 29 pics posted. One had all ninety of my mechs (taken down), there was one for each of my companies/trinaries and each lance/star, or 7 company/trinary pics (1 taken down, 6 left up), and 21 lance/star pics (3 taken down, 18 left up). All the pics taken down included The Pink Panthers, either on their own, or as part of the whole collection. For a total of 5 pics taken down. Selective use of the rules to get rid of something you don't like is not okay for a moderator. It is called abuse of authority. The fact that other moderators weren't stepping in and saying "Hey, you can't do that." shows that either they were asleep at the wheel, allowing one/some of their number to selectively delete what they wanted for bogus reasons, or were just as complicit in their selective judgement. If A, B, C, and D all meet the same basic criteria, in this case colour schemes based on real world colour schemes of historic camo paterns, then they either all breach the rules or none of them do. You must enforce the rules in an evenhanded manner applying the same metric to all things. You can't pick and choose what rules to follow and when to follow them. If moderators aren't doing their job, or worse, abusing their position to take down stuff they don't like on made up excuses, then they should be fired. Based on what pics of mine that were taken down and what pics weren't, I know that different standards were being applied to my pics. At best the moderators weren't doing their jobs (by taking them all down), and at worst, they were abusing their authority (by taking down something they didn't like for bogus reasons). Despite every one of my pics including the source for the inspiration of the colour scheme, the only ones that were taken down were the ones that had pink Mechs. Someone took offence at the sight of pink mechs, and failed to read the source of the inspiration for the colour scheme, and took them down for being "political". Each time I collect twelve IS or fifteen Clan Mechs I create a unique company/trinary. I then "populate" that unit with characters, and then create a unit backstory, before finally settingly on a colour scheme and unit name. Following the take down of my SAS inspired company, The Pink Panthers, I quit using the sub reddit because of the BS that was in effect. Mage Leader I look forward to hearing from you, and your understanding of why a historical camo pattern was deemed political and taken down, while others with the same criteria were not.
Many people are tired of politics in general and how you're told you are a bad person if you don't accept platform X or Y, so it's reasonable that the fans want to ban topics about any kind of politics in a forum that talks about entertainment. Are fans not allowed a place to spend 5 minutes enjoying something without having the thought police show up to tell us we are doing it wrong?
It would be nice if while we wait for CGL to lose the licensing that they’d refrain from adding to the canon. They’re clearly ideologues being hired for this and I’d rather not have to ignore everything after a certain date,
About the 3D printing. TOPPs probably wanted additional money for 3D printing rights that CGL didn't want to pay for. 3d printing is probably killing their mini sales a lot, so they are trying to push them down because they can't compete with an army of printers.
I would argue that the smarter business move would be to simply embrace the printing. Have a "sponsored" printer for sale that is the appropriate size/ease of use for their scale. Sell the files for printing. Have a sponsored plastic material and so on. It minimizes the storefront required, leans into the tech, and largely eliminates the overseas shipping angle as well. Run it lean and focus on only the game itself.
Before the flag rule went into place the sub was flooded in various LGBT flags. They became a nuisance, provoked a reaction that they could then push against. Funny thing, since the takeover, it's been relatively few pride mechs, despite the rule being lifted, and the removed posts being seemingly daily before (under the old rule). I'm not saying it was coordinated, but it feels like it was.

If I ran the sub-reddit, I would have let the fracture happen. It would have painted Catalyst as the meddlers they are, and those who wanted to leave and play their political activism, would have a place to do it, where most people who are actual fans that understand events happening, would never have to see it.
Correct me if I have misinterpreted but here is my line of thought process: Catalyst has extended its corporate claws into formerly "free" places and implemented their own censorship. On top of it, their marketing director is looking like an infiltrator as opposed to someone credible as evidenced by their lack of experience with the IP. Additionally the claim that "Identity is not political" is obviously false. This nonsense is why I no longer play TTRPG's and why I am trimming the list of companies I buy video games from. I don't care what other peoples politics are. I just want to game. That's it. Most people game to escape the seriousness of reality. The far left and right clowns need to stay out of normal people space. Most of us don't care about their lunatic politics. Too busy just living our lives. The reason to stop 3D printed models is quite simple - it gives people an alternative to buying their models. Going to war on 3D model printing is a sure-fire way to divide your own market. In a lose lose scenario the safest path is to let people know you don't agree with it, but not going "GW" on it.
@@combativeThinker Apologies for the wall of text coming up but context is important. TL:DR short is: Both sides have and will continue to do awful things. You're not entirely wrong. The Leftists do like to do stuff like that. Conservatives typically settle for bombings. The abortion clinics in Canada and the US throughout the early 90's. The IRA right up to the start of the 2000's. Both of those examples were politically motivated. Additionally, the "Right" does have a history of using governmental power to target groups they do not like. For example in Canada it was an chargeable offence to cross-dress or engage in homosexual activity. In the US simply having socialist/communist sympathies was enough to ruin ones career. Though historically the Left is really little different. Arguably worse in that the Nazi's and Communists both arrested, assaulted and later executed those who were deemed disagreeable or spoke out against them. For other readers - The Nazi's were politically *Left*. National *Socialist* German *Workers* Party. Sounds pretty left to me.
They made identity political because that's all they're capable of doing, regardless of whatever they say. My only regret is that I dropped as much cash as I did on the Mercs kickstarter before this all kicked off, since god knows I'll not be spending another dime on CGL, their minis, or their books. Battletech survived the death of one company, it'll survive well past them.

I saw this tie dye haired monstrosity earlier on sarna before watching this. I knew this was going to be a woke s*** fire. Catalyst has lost me as a customer. I'll gladly 3D print.
I take a simpler approach. They can only take from us what we are attached to. If they handle a platform, we did not need that in the 1980s. Why do we need it now? Community? You already connected to people, you are taking them with you. So there is no real loss. We had friends, a game, a table, and that is all we need. No one can take that from us. Attachment leads to pain.
Rem looked exactly like how I thought he would look like before I even seen an image. Look, if you want to make a club where you paint "bash the fas!" (even though you are politically closer to Gentile then not) and say anyone who doesn't fallow lock step with you is evil. Fine. You do you. I don't need to join your club and you don't need to let me in. Now by that token if I make a club where the only politics allowed are the those of the Inner Sphere and the Clans and no current year bullshit (and this means no urbies with MAGA caps, even though I'm pro Trump), then I'm within my right not to let you in or let you tell me I must be "diverse" and other buzzwords. Hell if you want to make a God Emporer Trump Battletech club go for it... but come on guys, how about make a political group instead and try to get your guys elected into he local government instead eh?
0.004% of the population maketh not a voter base so they use DIE and slander to brow beat people into line. They're not after acceptance or equality though, they're after supremacy and privilege. It's a feminine trait to turn things others have created and curated to what they want rather than get on board.
But it's not their club to begin with and it never was. This mentality is exactly how all of this started. You can't take the position of "live and let live" when they don't even want you to live in the first place. You are either an accessory to be used to celebrate them and their egos, or you will be cast out and de-personed for the rest of time. Tolerance begets this madness, and so therefore no tolerance should be given.
Reading the Source material/Lore should be a requirement for anyone who has a say in any IP Development/Promotion. Not this litterbox, oops, I meant Sandbox style development.
I joined the reddit after a bit of locking in my Kickstarter stuff and if I knew what'd they be up to, totally changed my mind. I haven't partaken in your channel long but my view of cgl is entirely different. No real world politics because exactly what is happening would happen....shocker fans would respond like they have.
The 3d print stuff sounds like there trying to ass cover and not take flak for going after 3d printing of Battletech minis, due to wanting to try and squash people 3D printing stuff for Battle tech. They want to work it over to a situation like what GW has for Warhammer 40k. Were its hundreds of dollars for cheaply made official material, and there the only game in town so buy from them or you cannot play.
You can tell that Rem is trying so desperately hard to ride the fence of goodwill on this by using the "hey everyone let's be nice!" facade, like the company didn't just appease the alphabet brigade on a gaslit warpath and turf out a relatively active majority of the fanbase and block high-profile, influential people of the hobby. The fact we're even talking about the inclusion of LGBT in a tabletop game that survived 40+ years without it is fucking astonishing. In other news, the r/officialbattletech subreddit (You know, the one that CGL made early on to quickly adhere to these anti-consumer rules) is a gated off community now (so much for inclusivity); this rainbow crusade has fractured the community months after the 40K exodus influx of players wanting to try something new. I don't expect any of this made a difference in regards to the license holder, so long as Topps gets their money,
There was nothing "nice" about the way it went down. They came in, changed the rules to suit their narrative and immediately banned anyone who questioned it. It went exactly the way you'd expect it to. There was no "playing nice". "Playing nice" was "Have the right opinions or get the fuck out".. There was no room for disagreement. They went on a full-scale queer crusade and clamped down with an iron fist. But "identity isn't political", right? Yeah these are the most dishonest people on the planet.
Everyone should just "play nice" she says. Fine, but if they can paint mechs in pride flags and insert real world politics, they better not be mad when I paint a company up in confederate colors.
tbh sounds more like legal threats to me - ie, a cease and desist along with other lawyers letters stating that they will prepare a lawsuit for discrimination
I wish CGL would just sell the property, they obviously dislike the franchise and it's fans. The best part is that there's literally nothing that CGL makes that you can't get better from third parties.
It makes perfect sense for Catalyst to start targeting printing and STL files. They have mismanaged the property so agregiously that people like me will never buy anything with their name on it and I've spent several hundred dollars on third party minis that they would have gotten if they didn't hate me.

Catalyst games is a bad caretaker of the franchise. They like many hobby companies are being taken over by activists that want to ruin hobby spaces that men enjoy. Yar Har fiddle D Dee, take that 3d printer to the high seas.
Catalyst controlling the subreddit violates Reddit TOS.
But what if Catalyst controls Redditors? 🤔
Yeah, which is of course why REM went with the "I don't really do anything with reddit" line in the interview and why she emphasized it was a "friend" of catalyst running it now and not an employee. Gotta cover their tracks.😔
You think reddit cares about a rule when doing so would make them force out someone that's supporting The Ideology™?
Dude have you seen the political reddits? They are dominated by leftists. Reddit won't do a thing.
Hey, I know you.
Their blocking campaign is the biggest thing that turned me against Catalyst. I was an avid supporter of the company before that, but silencing your most loyal customer base for nothing is inexcusable.
We will outlast catalyst, as the IP has outlasted companies before.
The problem is they can wreck the franchise going forward to the point that the old stuff is it and there is no future. Effectively killing it. Like certain star franchises I will remember fondly, but there is now never going to be anything new worth watching.

I was never this glad to live in an age of 3D printers - best comment

It would have painted Catalyst as the meddlers they are, and those who wanted to leave and play their political activism, would have a place to do it, where most people who are actual fans that understand events happening, would never have to see it.
Every time you think about the subreddit, you should imagine that picture of Dwight Shrute wearing the face of the CPR dummy
"muh both sides"
Get real. Conservatives aren't bashing people's heads in with bike locks.

Marketing manager that does not know what products are dropping, but has time to mess with reddit? Seems they have some wrong priorities
That's how they got me, too; Dropped X amount on the KS, it locks, then Pride Anthology drops, like their rubbing it in our face that we helped facilitate such drivel.
Don't forget, Battletech is for EVERYBODY. Make them hold to that

I'm glad you keep up with this crap. The moment i saw rem's face...something wasnt right and i stopped keeping up with Kickstart info. I just want my stuff and im gone from CGL. Battletech is forever. CGL is not
Being creative with your identity doesn't make you a 'creative'.

"Where it gets political is if you're gonna talk about social movements."
LGBTQ+ = Social Movement
Fuck this shit im out.
The Subreddit also died it used to have a 100 posts a day and now its dozens. So its a dead space as we all know what Corpos will do.
"they have no interest" means "No 3d printing" ?!?!?! sounds like tops doesn't give a fuck about it one way or another
The 3d print stuff sounds like there trying to ass cover and not take flak for going after 3d printing of Battletech minis, due to wanting to try and squash people 3D printing stuff for Battle tech.

I wish CGL would just sell the property, they obviously dislike the franchise and it's fans.
The best part is that there's literally nothing that CGL makes that you can't get better from third parties.
It makes perfect sense for Catalyst to start targeting printing and STL files. They have mismanaged the property so agregiously that people like me will never buy anything with their name on it and I've spent several hundred dollars on third party minis that they would have gotten if they didn't hate me.
