Good video , just a few suggestions. Remove the sproket/ carrier from the wheel before changing the tire , the wheel will be easier to work on and if you slip you won't rip your arm open on the sproket! Use dish soap to take the old tire off , makes it easier. Three tire spoons make the removal process easier , highly recommend wearing gloves for this operation!
I'm headed down to Dover,AR this weekend with my AT and a couple of buddies riding KTM. Just want to say how useful your wrenching and review videos are for a non-mechanical dual sport newbie like me. I've spent my life relying on dealer warranties and AAA to bail out my mechanical ineptness but it's not an option when you've got a flat tire on a sandbar of the buffalo river! I've downloaded your air filter change and tire change videos so you can help coach me the next time I'm in a crisis. Keep em coming and maybe we'll bump into each other on one of the dual sport events in MO or AR sometime soon.
+Todd Stone Thanks Todd I’m glad I could help ! I have been pretty fortunate and not had many flat tires but it can happen anytime. Yea maybe we shall meet up some day !
Thank you so much for making this video!!!! You make it look easy, and you have given me a little confidence if I need to do this if I get a flat in the middle of nowhere. Thank you!
You made that look REAL easy - nice video! Saw some other TH-cam video where he loosened the chain adjusters and removed the brake calliper before he removed the rear wheel. Obviously not necessary, so thanks for saving me that step!
+Eivind Eikli I have seen videos of people doing all of the but it's no needed at all. It's really pretty easy. I had done more than I can count because I have had a shop and worked on bikes for 38 years.
Wow. I'm changing mine for the 1st time in a couple weeks on the 690 and your vid was by far the most thorough and helpful outta a dozen or so watched. Also installing motoz adventures. Thanks! And Subbed! Ripp'n!!
Really good vidoe and explanations. I like that you did not rush through it so I could follow along and pay attention to the details you pointed out. Plus a controlled speed causes less hand and rim damage. I stopped the video at 9:39 and was able to read the tire and it is a 140/80-18. Not a 150/70-18 that I originally thought it was. I hear a 150 can be tougher to install depending on the rim width.
Good video. I usually end up learning something from watching your tutorials. Having just done this job myself (same bike, same tires) I believe that the reason the rear went on so easy for you was that MotoZ sent you a 140/80x18 tube-type instead of the bike's officially recommended size of 150/70x18 (tubeless in MotoZ's line). I also put a 140/80 on mine as it is about a $100 cheaper and works well and noted how easy it was to get over the wheel and get the bead seated.
Thanks Frank. I am a huge fan of putting air in the tube before I put the tube in the tire. No pressure, just enough air to give the tube its shape. That way it will definitely sit correctly inside the tire. I find putting it in without air can (usually?) result in the tube twisting or overlapping itself or even getting pinched by the bead or tire iron. Give that a try next time you change a tube.
I have done that and it works, I usually don’t. I will put the tube in. But make sure it’s right and not twisted, then air it a little the let it take shape, then let the air out and air it a 2nd time.
@@Woodzman I have watched many vedios about cars and motorcycles. And everyone says that the dot is weight and this weight should meet the weight of valve stem instead of the weight being distributed, please tell me what the person from Moto Z told you . Thanks 😊
Yea and I have heard the same thing also. He just said the dot is not for aligning up with the vale stem, I didn’t ask what it was for. I really don’t se how aligning it up with the valve stem would do anything anyway.
@@WoodzmanI can't understand why MotoZ would tell you that. A painted balance dot, or dots are definitely placed purposefully by the manufacturer. Since the tires are pre-balanced by the manufacturer they put a mark on the lightest section of the tire indicating where the valve stem should line up.
Good job, you Don’t seem to have ANY trouble with Any maintenance you preform on your bikes.. THIS is one of the Better tire changing videos I have watched ( of doing Everything on the floor with No special tools) of the 30 or so I have watched.... I do all the work on my Ural too, and am about to do The 3rd rear tire change and picked up a tip or two here, and I’m 67 and have been messing with mx stuff since the 60’s...!! 😁😜🤓😎
Superb. The best demonstration I have seen yet on how to change a tyre/ tube. My 2017 AT is waiting in the garage till 1st of March before she's legal for the road here in the UK. Can't wait! Many thanks for yet another great vid.
Great video! Thank you. I was finally able to change out the rear tire with my trail tools. Many attempts using other techniques without much success. Your method worked very well.
Well done. I have changed many a tires over the years and it always nice to someone else take the time to show it on a video. Black rims look nice when they are new but they will get scratched. Use a black magic marker to cover up the mark. Keep the video coming.
+MarshallFan yea they should have a lot more grip and not trigger the traction control as much as the stock tires do on the dirt but the bike has a ton of power so I guess we will find out. Thanks for watching
Question please. Do the tubeless version of these tires have a dot or heavy spot that needs to be lined up? I've seen some tires that have a dot that must be put in some area of the rim. I have a ktm 1290 super adventure the rear wheel is a 170/60-17 it's huge. Thank you in advance. Great video.
The liquid dish washing soap always makes the tire changing better without busting those knuckles and I've noticed the rubber tubes for tires can possibly cost more than a decade ago depending on the quality and thickness.
I remember when we was changing Austins ties on his KLR we scratched those wheels all to heck, I have the plastic deals now hehehe. Great job buddy, the birds in the background sound really happy. Cant wait for a full review on these tires my friend. Good job on the video my friend, thanks for sharing and have a blessed weekend.
Good job. It's easy after you've done a couple hundred, ha! Changed 'em all my life. Most difficult ever was a KLR650 rear for some reason??? Could not break the bead. Had to drive truck on it.
+richmoto1 tubeless tires are usually harder because they actually have a small bead that helps the tire from popping off on low pressure. Tube type don't have the small bead because they have the tube to hold them on and that is why tube type is better for Off Road and low tire pressure .
Great video. Looking forward to a ride report on them. Getting ready to switch to those my self. I love my shinkos, but the rear is starting to show some wear and In ready to try something else.
Which Shinko's do you have on ? 700 or 800 series..... I was thinking about trying the 805 or these tractionators ... Which do you recommend for 60/40 riding?
Hello, changed front tire and ABS disk is supposed to go to the left , stupid me put it to the right and now I have check engine light and ABS light on, anybody knows how to solve this, your videos are great!!
+Duals Portvet Welcome ! I like the Tractionators so far but I haven't been Off Road yet to give a review. Hopefully soon ! If they are as good as the Tractionators I had on my CRF250L then they will be great !
Getting ready to install motoz adv rear, thanks for all the videos. Where can I get some wheel weights for balancing? Live in pea Ridge, almost neighbor’s
Excellent video! Thanks so much for sharing. You make it look easy but it does take some experience to do it this well. I still struggle with it. Hope to get better at it with time.
most helpful video for changing a tire thanks. Just a question when you grease axel and the spacer what kind of grease should i use? Preferably in a spray form? If i get a flat tire offroad, i would like to carry a small can with me. Best.
Rim locks are needed when riding a lot of off road where you have your tires set to low air pressure. I do ride some off road but not extreme enough to need them
How hard it to remove the front wheel? I notice you left that out of the video. I ordered a set of e0-7's for my AT and all the shops around me want $150+ to install the new tires!! Time to learn to do it myself!
Thanks for the video. Your videos are a great help. Unfortunately I wasn't able to install the rear tire. I'm wondering if it's because I got the 150 instead of the 140 like u got
I have the 150 rear and could for the life of me not get it on the rim. Friends over to help, nope. Baja tool employed and still no joy. Granted it was spring and the tire was cold. Tried to heat it with a heat cannon, still nothing. Brought the tire and rim to the dealer and picked it up the next day. They said it was a b'tch to get on for them too.....
+Helixx I have had some tough ones before. Usually the problem is the the first part on the tire bead that you start in the rim is not in the low part of the center of the rim and if it is not, it will not go on. Glad you got it on.
Lol, me too. 2200 miles thus far. 50/50 on/off road and still going strong. I have a TKC 80 on the front. Wet on-road traction of the TKC is definitely better then the rear MotoZ. She can be slippery but it is hard to argue with her longevity and off-road performance. What pressure do you run the rear at? I currently have her at 35 rear and 29 front. I might soften the rear a little to get better traction especially on-road in wet conditions. Off road she seems to doing just fine.
Thanks for the video. Why did you select the 140/80x18 instead of the 150/70x18? I bought the 150 because I am short legged and the 80 section tire probably sits a little higher.
Really good video. ! What model of Motoz did you have on your CRF 250 .? I have a CRF 250 RALLY and do very mixed riding from mud to motorway. Really appreciate your opinion. Thanks David
Great video.. thanks.. question though how many miles did you get out of your stock tires and any problems in the wet condition or off road with the stock tires? Snowing today here in Oregon still itching to get out for a long ride on my new AT... thanks again for your videos. Very helpful..
Thanks for the video . Nice tips. Just did my 2019 ATAS 2 motoz tires replacement earlier today . IT IS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE. Been watching tutos for weeks . Ordered the motion Pro bead tools, used soap but damn this was so hard !!! I spent the whole day changing these tires
Thank you for the videos!! been followin you for some time, I have the same Bike, was wondering if i should get the GPS or the Adventure model for a RTW trip, what do you reckon? why did you decide for the adventure model. Thanks in advance!!
If you have the center stand you can tilt the bike back and put something under the front of the bike to hold it up. Unless you find something heavy to weight the rear rack.
Dying to hear how you like these. I pick my AT up next Saturday and I had the dealer install these tires for me. I used your sizes and have been curious, why not go with stock rear tire size? Why did you choose narrower and taller? I got the same size cause you did but wondering why.
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Those look WICKED on the AT!!! PROPER ADV tires! WOOT!!! By the time I am ready to replace the Shinko 705's on the 'strom, there will be plenty of reviews and feedback form your vids on how these do. :-D
+ADVRX I chose them because I had good results out of the Tractionators on my CRF250L. I like them a lot Off Road. On road that make a lot of noise after you get some miles on them and the front tire cups pretty bad. I think the next set will be the MotoZ GPS
Thanks for the prompt response. I appreciate your input. I found your other videos shortly after posting the question. I am interested in trying the GPS from MOTOZ but I am leary. I listened to the advise from Ryan at fortnine and replaced my tires with the shinko e805's and I think they are horrible. They buzz and the front tire (Its the second one the first was warrantied) shakes the front end so badly at 35mph it feels like I have a flat spot in the rim or an extremely stiff spot in the side wall. The only thing I have been able to do to minimize the problem is run high tire pressure. 52 psi to be specific. I believe it is an overlap in the bands causing the side wall to be stiff. We have a ton of trails here lots of places to explore. But I ride every day. It has to be tolerable on the street. I guess I'll let you know soon what I think, I am torn between the Metzler Karoo 3 and the Motoz gps. HDS is running the GPS's right?
Hmmm, thats super interesting... my rear sprocket isn't bolted on (and doesn't have holes for bolts) when I pull the wheel the rear wheel off the sprocket just falls out of its receiver...
The sprocket is not cush drive? Seriously? I would have bet that sprocket would just lift off the hub...no? Also hard to believe Honda did not provide tubeless style rims....like on Suzuki V Strom spoked wheel version ...a center rib on rim that hooks the spokes so they don't have to pass through the rim...or the BMW system where the spokes are on the outside of the bead
Leave the sprocket on. Something to hook your levers on as u work your way round.
Thanks for the proper way to remove, install and balance tires on the AT.

Great vid. In the racing world, we use gorilla tape over the weights for safety. Wouldn't need it on ADV but it hides the metal weight nicely.

Question: Isn't there a mark (maybe a little round dot) that you line up with the valve stem or something that designates the heavy side of the tire?
On some tires
how were the tires on the highway?

Great, the best I saw
Told me why the 140/80-18 and not the 150/70 18, is it for easy install or others
Thank's
It’s because MotoZ told me that it is the closest to the stock size and best fit for the AT
@@Woodzman Thank's, because I prefer TT more easier to change
Great video man, Very useful. Do you have the video for the front tire? I'm wondering how to remove the front wheel.
+Danitruc6 Sure don't, I just made the video for the rear. I may have to do that
WOODZMAN ADVENTURES sure would love to see how you go about the front and if you remove one or both or none of the front brakes.
I have a video of that. th-cam.com/video/tUdOCVGc4pI/w-d-xo.html

Super easy. Two bolts you take out of each brake calipers
Thanks for the video. Your videos are a great help. Unfortunately I wasn't able to install the rear tire. I'm wondering if it's because I got the 150 instead of the 140 like u got

WOODZMAN ADVENTURES 10-4 I do need the practice. Wow! What a different feel to the bike! Wondering what your thoughts are?

Great video.. thanks.. question though how many miles did you get out of your stock tires and any problems in the wet condition or off road with the stock tires? Snowing today here in Oregon still itching to get out for a long ride on my new AT... thanks again for your videos. Very helpful..
I think I got about 8k out of them. They are ok on wet paved roads but off road and wet the stock tires suck
Yea it sucks !
Great video there mate with some helpful tips, thanks for sharing :)
+Paul Jagger Your welcome Paul ! More on the way
Thank you for the videos!! been followin you for some time, I have the same Bike, was wondering if i should get the GPS or the Adventure model for a RTW trip, what do you reckon? why did you decide for the adventure model. Thanks in advance!!
Thanks very much for your tutorial. Very helpfull.
Your welcome
And also if i need to change front tire during a middle of nowhere how can i clear the tire from the floor without a hook strap?
If you have the center stand you can tilt the bike back and put something under the front of the bike to hold it up. Unless you find something heavy to weight the rear rack.
Dying to hear how you like these. I pick my AT up next Saturday and I had the dealer install these tires for me. I used your sizes and have been curious, why not go with stock rear tire size? Why did you choose narrower and taller? I got the same size cause you did but wondering why.
+Osterbinds It says that size but it is really closer than you think. It is what MotoZ recommended for the AT. Thanks for watching !
Should the dot on the tire line up with the valve stem hole on the wheel?
+Nadab Yisrael Some people say that but it's not true. My new tires didn't even have a dot on them
The dot marks the lightest part of the tire, if you line it up with the valve stem you may save some balanceweights. No big deal if you dont.
Good stuff. Very well explained.
+Nick Charlton Thanks Nick !
Have you run the tkc 80 on the front ? I see more of that tire on the front then the Moto z for some reason
I have not tried one, but I hear a lot of good comments about it
Thanks 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Good job. Good Tires.
+csaba halasi Thanks ! I hope to get to take them off road soon
Thanks again for a great tutorial
Thanks for watchin
NIcely done! Thanks for sharing!
Your welcome
Thanks for this video. These tires are in version TL. Is the tube affected by the use? Do I need to know something more to use a TL + tube ?
+alst69 Well on the Africa Twin you have to use tubes or get new wheels
Of course! I asked about use tube in TL tire. I did not use tubes in TL tires.
+alst69 ok I miss understood. Yes you can use a tube in a tubeless tire.
Does anyone know if the rims of a 2016 Africa twin will fit on a 2017 model?
I would think so
@@Woodzman was just wondering because I was gonna order a 2016 wheel and it said it was for 2016 model only
Oh well, then there must be something different
Sir if you have a flat and change the inner tube do you still have to balance the tire? Thanks
Nope ! Just mark the tire near the valve stem so you get it back on in the same spot and your good to go.
WOODZMAN ADVENTURES thank you
WOODZMAN ADVENTURES Thank you very much.
Alex Garcia Good question.
Your welcome
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Those look WICKED on the AT!!! PROPER ADV tires! WOOT!!! By the time I am ready to replace the Shinko 705's on the 'strom, there will be plenty of reviews and feedback form your vids on how these do. :-D
+COYOTE ADVENTURES I gotta go ride off road now to see how they do !
awsome
What made you choose those tires, and what do you think of them now that you have some miles on them? Thanks.
+ADVRX Yes and he is where I got the input on the GPS
Thank you very much
Thank you
Thanks for watching
How accurate are those static balancers?
They are pretty accurate
Is your bike manual or DCT? I have a 16 AT Manual, and my rear sprocket is attached differently than yours...
Mine is a 2016 manual
Hmmm, thats super interesting... my rear sprocket isn't bolted on (and doesn't have holes for bolts) when I pull the wheel the rear wheel off the sprocket just falls out of its receiver...
Well it should be bolted to an aluminum hub that sits into a rubber mount
Thank you for making great video.
+yun lee Your so welcome, more on the way
Excellent video.
+ktm trailrider Thanks Sir ! More on the way soon
are these tires good for street riding?
They aren’t to bad but they do make a lot of noise and I mean a lot !
a very usefull video!!!! Tanks!!!
Your welcome, thanks for watching
Хорошая работа.
Wtf how have I never thought about that center stand trick ..... So much head ache for no reason!!
Yea it sucks
Now you're ready for the hate scramble!!!LOL...
hare LOL....
+dan hambrick well maybe a hare scramble but a hate scramble wouldn't be fun at all
+dan hambrick lol
cool, those look much better
+Caveman Outdoors Oh yea, I ready to climb a mountain now !
Be careful in the corners...
+Paul H Oh yea ! I still have to break them in. And I'm really not a cornering person anyway
Never use screwdrivers on tires to break tires down
Brian Fisher I don't lol
The sprocket is not cush drive? Seriously? I would have bet that sprocket would just lift off the hub...no? Also hard to believe Honda did not provide tubeless style rims....like on Suzuki V Strom spoked wheel version ...a center rib on rim that hooks the spokes so they don't have to pass through the rim...or the BMW system where the spokes are on the outside of the bead
I never balance my knobbies.
+Wild One I usually don't but I figured I would because of some long highway miles
