Dimebag did such a great job at making his solos flow with the groove of the song. They are not out of place or just random. They are always well thought out and placed perfectly. Another great reaction. 🤘
"Melody"
Dimebag was an incredible guitarist and composer!
Dime made the guitar sing!
I think more like well FELT out than thought out, I think it just flowed naturally from him. He was so naturally talented he didn't even need to think about it, it was just like a second voice for him, like how you don't need to think about talking in order to express yourself. That's just how he expressed himself.
As precise as Malmsteen, especially when you watch him play live and see it's always note for note. In reservedness not so much :D
"The dude on guitar" 🎸
Enuff said.
Pantera was the Metal Band of the 90's. They saved Metal....
Sepultura, Paradise Lost, Blind Guardian, Nightwish..
Never heard this one. Playlist, that was a banger 🤘🏻
No more head trip!
Great song choice, I've been waiting for this one. 10's a great pick too but then I'd agree with any of them.
As for Pantera drug/booze shenanigans, it's infamous (lots of fireworks thrown in for a good mix). Phil had a cardiac arrest after a show in 96 due to heroine abuse, think he was clinically dead for few minutes.
Most of the bands they toured with couldn't keep up and they toured with some heavyweights.
Look it up, plenty of stories.
It's amazing how Phil turned his life around. Strong headed dude.
Apropos of nothing, it'd be fun to get some like King's X in on this. I was gonna raise Symphony X because they're good Neoclassical, but King's has some amazing riffs and solid groove so something about it feels appropriate.
Morbid Angel has a power ballad...God of Emptiness
I love how the pianist picked up on Dimebag’s willingness to hold notes. I remember reading an interview where he talked about holding notes and how he wanted more guitarists to do that. I love it. It means Dime’s intention landed.
100%! We all know Dime could Shred with the best, but when he played with soul it gives you goosebumps (like this solo and the sleep solo). David Gilmour and his solo in Comfortably numb is another good example of holding/bending notes, where no notes are wasted.
@@adamregan4921 I love that you mentioned the solo in The Sleep. One of the greatest solos in Pantera’s history and I never hear it get mentioned enough.
I'm glad you picked the version that doesn't stop after "No more headtrip"... like what happens in the music video. I was ready to be disappointed, lol. Thanks Judson for giving it a listen! One of my favorites
Oh and about the heroin use, yes - definitely something that comes back in Phil's lyrics. Suicide Note Pt 1 & 2 for Pantera and from his other band Down - Learn from this Mistake. I've never touched drugs, but I've seen what it did to my brother so I still get a lump in my throat every time I hear it.
That middle section riff is EPiC before the breakdown ❤❤❤ ... Talk about groove metal!!! Great song Pantera definitely had influenced a lot of metal bands just from this one song.
YOU TAKE THIS LOVE!!! FIST SCAR BREAK!!!
Keep* this love
@@somethingbl nice looking out
No more head trip
Cemetery Gates please! If Judson has a chance of ever liking Phil's voice, it'll be because of that song for sure
The mindfuck would be Power Metal stuff
If you plan to do another Pantera track, i'd like to formally request Floods.
One of the greatest Metal albums ever made.
It' pummels and beats you over the head, below the belt and right in the gut.
MOUTH FOR WAR!
That main solo is so sweet, it distracts from all the movement under it. Such an interesting progression.
So glad I got to see them before they disbanded.
🤟🧙♂🤟
so much prefer "disbanded" to "broke up"
Man you forget how good this song is and how missed Dimebag is. Much love from the kingdom 💚🤙
Man, you need to show some CARCASS to Judson🤘🏼
Ya..No Love Lost with the long intro, Buried Dreams, so many others!
Had the pleasure of hanging out with Dime a couple of times down here in Oz.. Most genuine person I have ever met, with the kindest soul.. He said that he learnt to get more out of one note from listening to Ace Frehley, who was a master at it..
Black Tooth Grin!! 🥃
GREAT!. ..too bad Darrels bros died and Phil ruined his voice with heroine ....
I went to one of the Pantera shows last year and I can tell you, Phil sounded damn great.
@@ucheehQ Agreed. I saw em in Arlington & he sounded great! 🤘😤🤘
@@ucheehQ ask him to do a "cemetery gates" style high note, then
@@LeoAtlantideoI'm pretty sure even without any heroin or other substance abuse he wouldn't be able to do that anymore.
Richard mentally joined their concert around 8:40. Awesome!
Great video also ty for taking long version of this song
Absolutely my favorite Pantera track!!!
Ten's is phenomenal!
I love the simplicity of and how Phils lyrics are brutal and to the point. Pure expression of and release of emotion....no holding back, no PC.....Just a strong-felt emotion.
Snakes for the divine by high on fire please.
my favorite pantera song
10's has one of the best solos imo,.sure he will like it
Phil got into heroine, because he had two fucked up disks in his back and wouldn't go to surgery, but got on with touring and started eating opiate pills. The other guys were alcoholics and smoking weed mostly.
Greetings to you both, always a pleasure to see judson react to new material. Just as much as Richard's passion for them.
I ask again just in case, can you do a video on the band nine inch nail, on the track we're in together please ?
Big kisses from Paris, France.
For sure. We’ve been discussing NIN recently. Judson has heard some of their stuff, so the challenge is trying to figure out what he hasn’t heard.
Goddamn I hadn't listened to that in too long...I shed a tear for the incredible guitar of dimebag and of course vinny no denying their talents..I played in a band with a singer/guitarist who was friends with them and went to pool parties at their dad's place in Dallas..that must have been crazy
FLOODS!!!!
Sup sup. I always forget how much I like this song. Hope Judson likes it 🤙
"You treat your stepmother with respect, Pantera, or you’ll be sleeping in the street!"
More pantera
Pantera is not solely groove metal, they're a blend of thrash/speed/groove and some southern rock in the leads department at times, the speed metal disappeared after Cowboys, but the thrash didn't, hence the often label of Half-Thrash by those elitists who cannot enjoy any groove metal (not because of Pantera, but because of what it did to thrash bands who continued on and slowed everything down because it was the trend at the time, Sepultura's Chaos AD for example being the last great (real) Sepultura album, Roots having zero thrash in it and after that, no Max Cavalera, so that was the end of it for them for me). It also brought in the spotlight bands I will never like, even if I heard some obscure tracks I liked, like Korn, their fans are usually so awful, they think they can put Korn on the same level as Slayer or any other way more talented bands out there, even if they were into other legit stuff, the only person I can tolerate doing that is my 10 year gf, she will never let go of Disturbed and Linkin Park for example, but at least she's not much into Korn and all of the other not as known groove/nu-metal bands out there....and I hate Pantera being thrown in with this mix and match bunch of 90's groove and late 90's nu-metal (SOAD is excluded, they never were nu-metal, no rapping, no dj's, no silly gimmicks, but that's another discussion entirely).
Suicide note pt1 into p2. You gotta do.
I’ve never liked equating nice, creative choices with being a good player.
Proficient at technical skills = good player
Beautiful and creative musically = good musician
Being one doesn’t necessarily make you the other. Too many times someone playing something that’s very beautiful gets called a good player. I violently disagree with that. That makes you a good musician. Something needs to be technically challenging to play in order for you to execute it well, that’s what makes someone a good player. If it is very difficult to play and hardly anyone can replicate it, that’s what makes so done that is capable of doing so a good player. Playing is a technical activity. Music is a creative activity. Making something beautiful is separate from the technical aspects of playing something. Yngwie Malmsteen is an incredible guitar player, but I don’t like his music. Which, granted, is subjective. Technically ability, though, is objective. It takes more skill to do things that are physically more difficult. The better the guitar player, the greater the ability to successfully execute more and more difficult things on the instrument. And that’s separate from the musical side of things. You can do both. And you can be one or the other independently. But one is not the other. One can make incredibly beautiful things without being very technically proficient. But making beautiful things doesn’t make you a good player. It makes you a good musician.
Try band Meticulous Butchery, you'll both will be amazed and shocked, trust me 🎉🤯🤟🏻📀👑☣️
Audience too cuz not many people know that band, it is just so different, wild and complex! You'll love it 😊
Exact thing whenever i listen to this song. The man was spot on!
I even wrote a flood in Twitter, currently X yea i know, and it was about a comparison between Alice in Chains and Pantera and also i said in that flood that This Live is Alice in Chains' Love Hate Love.
They both have dark arpeggios in the beginning following with powerful riffs and singing. They both come forth and back with emotions such anger and intense passion.
This is far and away the worst song Pantera ever recorded. When you KNOW what they are capable of and they serve up this slow turgid boring slop it's infuriating. There's no real technicality at all in anything Rex Vinnie and Dime does here and I've always hated that. Also, it is really weird seeing Vulgar Display Of Power spelt properly too coz I saw them on this tour and the tour shirts had the album name on the back but it said VulgEr Display of Power 😂😂😂 Got me ten quid off the shirt price though 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love this song, but my favorite part is how on the album it just slams right into the next one, "Rise". The contrast is epic.
Also, as to the question of were the band into drugs. How do you think he got the nickname Dimebag Darrell?
I think that cemetery gates it's closer to and in a sense suicide note part 1 too ....my albumm of radiohead is the bend (favorite) and after ok.computer....since kids A wellll...
couldn’t help but laugh when he tried to sing ‘this love’ imagining what it would sound like just knowing he wasn’t ready for phil to scream it 😂
12:00 story of my life
"thats a guitar solo?" no idea. guitar decided. long note if guitar want.
Stonned?
Guyz u r great
Greetingzz from Dubrovnuk EU
Ohhhh yea... btw gang if ur ready i have the next mercyful fate song for you lol... lmk
I would like to see his reaction to prog rock or prog metal rather than Pantera lol with their 0-0-0 riffs, it's almost funny how boring it ia if you are not metalhead
Judson likes groove! If i may make some suggestions -
Machine Head - Davidian
White Zombie - I Am Hell
Lamb of God - Hourglass
it is always so nice watching your vids, it is interesting to hear someone's different opinion.
what about Death - Voice of the Soul?
There ultimate power balled gotta be “suicide note part1”
10s would be great. Finally someone doing some different songs
Is Judson basically saying at 15:05 "Richard, I am a PanterA Fan".?
One of the best metal albums of all time. Oh yah Far beyond Driven one of the best albums as well.
it would be a rather long video if you did all 3 parts but you should make him listen to autotheism from the faceless
It's a shame that his confidence and strong opinions don't come through in his piano playing.
I love these vids
Pantera are my all time fave
If you want a ballad from them I reckon the sleep has the sickest solo
"Regular People (Conceit)" has some great lyrics and a groove that seems underrated
G'day guys, enjoy your videos from down here in Australia 🇦🇺
Love the interactions between you both. Judson is a pisser 😂 he's obviously a very intelligent man with his insights.
Oh that Southern drawl lol 👍
PROCEEEEED RICHAAAAARRRRD
Ths,lil Morg,,erfuckr no Plan 🎉😂😂😂😂
Wait, Judson knows Cinderella?
Wake up, GREAT MEASURES!
I’m gonna keep asking for Protest the Hero - Blindfolds Aside until y’all do it, Richard.
Some PtH would be great. Been a while since I listened to em myself
Everyone everywhere should react to more Protest The Hero. Criminally under-rated.
Dime Vinny and Rex were extremely heavy drinkers as well as Phil but he got more into drugs as their career went on in 1996 Phil Od. after a show in Texas and his heart stopped for close to 10 mins 😎🧐🤘✌️
Too bad it started again.
You should do The sleep from Pantera
Cradle of Filth? Asap…
Gotta have him check out A NEW LEVEL!
Get this man on some Alice in Chains!!!!
Great video! Happy to hear y'all are in recovery! Love what yall are doing!
Either Richard can't find the beat or he's saving his neck the stress!
I can’t quite headbang like I used to. Getting old sucks
@@Greatmeasures sure does! Knee surgery next month, lol.
@@IROCZSPEED oh wow. Good luck to you! I hope everything goes smoothly.
Pantera has a early album called " Power Metal"...and this song comes from the album Vulgar Display of Power"...So yeah the band is always been known for saying the word Power in so many of their Interview...so they are into strength and Power obviously...so to say that this is Groove Metal ...Ahhh...NO....if you said that it is groove Metal to Phil he would probably punch you in the face ( joking)...but no he wouldn't be to happy
Interesting… what does Phil consider their style to be?
Phil is mostly known for his White Power!
@@Greatmeasures I think he just refers to them as heavy metal. Which they were with power metal and cowboys from Hell.
Groove didn't become a term until much later
The pinch harmonics hurt that man
Speaking of Pantera you suddenly start the Powermetal theme so please WHEN?
Some Helloween, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Luca Turilli, Labyrinth, Vision Divine, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Avantasia, Edguy, something PLEASE🤟🤟🤟
Don't forget LOVEBITES! 🤘🏼🐺🤘🏼
Dimebag playing one note is better than all those fruity bands combined!
@@antiqueguy6397 That's how you see music 🤣
I'm really sorry 👍
You really know it all
@@robertcr How many bands you play in? How many tours? How many boys have you touched? You monkey. Go back to the zoo
Noooo mooorw Busgsshi 🎉😂😂😂😂😂
Vinnie paul killed it in this song
Love the radiohead in the beginning. I didn’t quite figure it out. This episode was the most heroine like. ❤
I think that's the first video where I've seen Judson just sit there and really listen to the song, usually he'll plink away on the keys trying to figure the song out.
I keep the wolf from the door
Haha I love your videos. Is Jedson drunk every time?
Not ever, is he ever drunk. Thank you for hanging out with us though
Almost forgot how great this song is. Exelent video.
His sings with his guitar.
igorrr please
Polyphonic Rust
I absolutely love that y'all don't interrupt the song! Yall wait to hear everything before you comment
Thank y'all for doing that!
Charleston, South Carolina here!
DOOM
Lords unmatched! Sebastian Bach has some funny stories about Dime when they were all touring together. Dime and Snake Sabo dropped acid and cut up a bunch of leather sofas at a swanky hotel and got them all kicked out. There were doing all kinds of drugs and drinks and debauchery in the old country and western days that were the 90s. Phil was into the heroin, but then he "cut the dragon's head off," as he says, which is way more interesting to talk about.
You should make him listen to 10's, he'll love the solo
EDIT: Oh! It's the next Pantera song! Awesome
Perhaps Judson would prefer Dimebag's' original moniker... Diamond Darrell.
"Sing a Polyphia riff" I feel that, that band lost me after "Most Hated". You can sing all of those songs, very memorable melodies. Not so much now.
Dime essentially would sing with his fingers.
Great measures!
You can tell Judson misses Dimebag Darrell... Give him some Children of Bodom- Bed of Razors
Hersteller,Heea A Allen...😎🌟
So many love songs , so little time ! Keep on running 🏃♀️ by Y&T would be fitting too , How about love song Tuesdays ? Has anyone out there ever had a Hostile Relationship?
You argue that Dimebag is totally unique but his sound is SO “Van Halen but in Texas.” Its not totally unique because he continued carrying the EVH torch in his playing
How the solo ends and goes back to the intro
12:38 The solo must be a composition that completes the song, not selfishly detracting or distracting from it. Dime’s discipline to the track is an unsung ability. Enjoyed the break down.
Really like the channel. I was wonder if Judson has any original material that he has composed?
Pre video prediction- he might like the outro but I am quite puzzled with how he'll react or connect
10/10
Judson will surely love the new Ihsahn album. Masterpiece!
should react to Lovebites with Swan Song live at zepp diver city Tokyo with chopin intro
Whats the name of the band in shirt?
its literally in the description of every video
