    • @niclastname
      @niclastname 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A very general and very simplified explanation: I'm not nearly good enough to do it quickly, but basically you get used to hearing notes to where you can already start off in the ballpark of trying to find a note, and once you do, you can pretty easily figure out the root note of the thing you're listening to, and once you have that, it's generally pretty easy to figure out the key it is in. Once you know the key, you only have 7 notes and 7 chords* to choose (in music there are only 12 notes [7 per scale] that just repeat higher and higher, every notes is on the piano 8 times), and just like getting sort of used to where a note is when you hear it, you get used to how those 7 notes in a scale sound in relation to each other. You also get used to what different scales sound like. If something sounds happy, they're probably playing major scale, blues scale sounds... bluesy, etc.
      Think of it like food. If you don't know what a food is made of, you can probably still make a good guess of the ingredients if they're things you're familiar with the taste of. It's basically like that, just that you're not familiar with music ingredients because you're not used to tasting them or how to use them. Once you learn the ingredients and get used to how they taste, it's a lot easier to figure out what it's made of. It's like any other specialty someone has that another person doesn't.
      *(this is all super generalized and some things depend on the style and genre of music, and how complicated the writing and arrangement is etc etc etc)

  • @gzin33
    @gzin33 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    For those who don't understand, to hear and know what the notes are just by hearing them once is not normal. It takes many years of learning to get to the point he is at now

    Okay, hear me out...I would HIGHLY recommend Ghost of Perdition by Opeth to be your next song. The heavy parts get your blood pumping, but the softer parts really hit you in the feels; especially when you take the topic of the song into consideration (its about Mikeal Akerfelds mother dying). I would also recommend you do the studio verson before the live version even though the live version gives the song more life and is easier on the ears. I know you have done an Opeth song before and you wanted to ease into the heavier stuff, but this one is truly something special. If you can handle the vocals at certain sections you won't be disappointed (I hope 😂).

    Ahh about the Judson piano cover… of this track… Yep 👍🏻 you were 100% correct about that 😄 sounds awesome! I really did like that little scratching the surface taste of what Judson played just off the cuff there. He’s obviously a musical genius and I admit I like watching him just translate it all in his head from guitar to piano as it plays on the fly. I would absolutely love to hear him do a full take of that 😮 just to see what it sounds like. As far as I’m aware nobody has ever thought to do it on solo piano like that😊. If they have I’ve never seen or heard it. I highly doubt I’m the only one watching that wants to hear it 😄 I’m trying to imagine the rest of it right now 🤔
    Yes… lots of choppy chords during the riffs and then haunting solo notes that really ring out and sustain into forever , I’m 100% sure it will sound Amazing that way as well.

And what I think might come out couldn’t be further from the truth. You then play a piece of music through interpretation that I could sit all day and listen to. Myself having heard this song hundreds of times knows the next note, but you hearing it and playing your version is so refreshing and exhilarating because I know I’m about to hear a new version, albeit pleasing in every way. Dimebag 100% invented the whammy squeal. You are correct. Wizard on harmonics. This song is so underrated imho. The guitar and vocals are matching equals on that outro. Hearing it live is amazing how Phils vocals then dimebag matches it perfectly with a guitar squeal etc.
    No idea your channel existed and am pleasantly surprised!

    First, that was Pyramid Song by Radiohead. A masterpiece. Second, this is one of the better solos. Being compared to the insane childhood talent, winning all the contest as a young adult. It's nearly impossible to select a number one from him. Dime will always be my favorite guitarist. He mastered tone, he was obsessed with it much like EVH. Nobody could play Dime's setup without getting feedback. His finger strength was that epic.

    I love how he sees the music in his head and almost reads it. I don't know if you did already, but I would love to see the reaction to Opeth's Windowpane, or anything from their album Damnation

    I believe Judson is right, although these techniques usually have been done before by someone less famous: Dimebag used to bend the trem UPWARDS with a pinch-harmonic which is hard to do accurately, and then ease-off to lower the tone back to the natural pitch. Sort of the opposite of a dive-bomb. It has a different feel and gets you into some super high pitches. Very expressive.

      @@Nissardpertugiu As far as I am aware those guys used standard dive-bombs and pinch harmonic dive-bombs.

    • @lewe666
      @lewe666 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a natural harmonic rather than pinched. Diving down and then catching the harmonic on the string as you pull up is very Dimebag.
      Might have been done before him, but I couldn't name a song using that technique before Dime popularised it.

    • @TheBaconWizard
      @TheBaconWizard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lewe666 He would also turn the trem-arm the wrong way and bend upwards from the natural pitch. I suspect Steve Via or Jeff Beck may have used this at some point.

    Dude is completely right. Dime bag innovated a Wawa pedal harmonic technique that people were using but not quite the way he was

  • @chancewillits8133
    @chancewillits8133 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s probably already been stated, but what Dime is doing is he’s hitting a pinch harmonic, and then pulling up on his tremolo to tighten the strings to get the higher pitch from the harmonic, this is achieved with a Floyd rose tremolo, a cutout behind the humbuckers that allows for an up motion and down motion with the whammy bar

    Also, please play the piano more as you listen! It is super cool to see you think out loud about the music and how you interpret it!
