The Shagya Arabian is a popular breed of European origin that has special status within the World Arabian Horse Organisation. Founded in the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, horses of many diverse types were used to create the Shagya Arabian. However, it takes its name from a Syrian Arabian stallion, Shagya, who was born in 1830.
