      I have two Frigate for driving, bronze & gray. I prefer bronze in rainy days. For sports a Kapalua gray. My little son Stingray gray. Awesome eye glasses...

      I Wear my Kahuna's for driving and for other sedentary activities. I find the Superthin Glass on them too heavy to get involved in anything physical but the clarity and polarization is unmatched.

    Got the Pokowai arch. One of my fav pairs of sunnies that I use for driving. Great styling, very light frame, comfy and the lens is very good quality.

    You definitely gotta review relaxation mode man. My favorite Mauis. They nailed size for lower end size of medium faces, high quality acetate, and glass lenses with a really sharp design for once. They usually don't get that all in one model. And if they do they're usually huge. Maui has an issue with making their models too huge.
    I won't buy Mauis unless they're acetate and glass. If I'm spending the money, I'm going top quality. So these were perfect. Especially considering they have a stainless steel center layer that made it able yo have adjustable nose pads on a acetate

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do love that Maui ST Glass and acetate frame combo as well. As for a review of the Relaxation Mode, we have an overview or review video shot from a while back. It hasn't managed to get in front of the editors yet, so I'll ask them to prioritize the edit for you😎

    Are the Hot Sands good for diving? I'm thinking about getting a pair and I drive a lot for work.

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! The Hot Sands can definitely be used for driving. The thing I like about them for driving is how the sides are rimless on the bottom half, so you can keep your peripherals clear from obstruction while the curved lenses still give you PolarizedPlus2 lens protection from UV rays and glare.

    Either the Alaka'i or Kanaha in HCL Bronze. I do like the the Maui Brilliant lens material more than the Maui Pure

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Alaka'i, unlike the Kanaha, has been discontinued, so it would be a bit tougher to find. If you need prescription lenses, you should always go with the Maui Brilliant lens material in a frame like this because of its higher tensile strength. This is incredibly important because the lens is mounted to the frame with drill holes through the lens. The drill holes in polycarbonate can cause a 'starburst' effect of cracking around the hole which can eventually crack off the corner of the lens, for which there is no fix. The higher tensile strength in the Brilliant material makes the potential for that to happen virtually zero!

    I think Maui Jim over the next few years will be finding that its sales could be impacted by the fact that more and more cars are moving into all screen car interiors: your primary instruments in front of the steering wheel as well as the entertainment/secondary systems may be hard/impossible to see. Polarization may prove a hard sell in this case. But otherwise, my MJs make the world a lot sharper!

    • @sas3dx
      @sas3dx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This made me wonder:Is it possible to degradate the polarization just like there are sunglasses that go clear at the bottom so you can see the car instruments better?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is a good point, but this can be dependent on the quality/type of digital display. There are many displays that we don't have a problem with seeing through polarized lenses. It is a good/interesting point you make, though!

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting thought! The real issue is that the polarization axis can be the same on both, so it gets blacked out. A simpler solution could be rotating the axis on the display slightly. The other solution could be just what you said: not making the display 100% polarized. Thanks for your reply!

    I've had my Maui Jim Island Time for about 7 yrs. I love them!
    But,.. I dropped them and the frame broke. What is the closest to Island Time in the current line up?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First, we're sorry this reply took so long. It's such a bummer when we finally lose or break a pair of our favorite shades. Especially when it's an awesome frame like "Island Time" and it's been discontinued. We feel your pain. However, I do have a few recommendations for you if you haven't already found a new pair of Mauis.
      The Alenuihahah has a similar frame design, wrap, and sizing. Additionally, it offers both lens colors offered with Island Time (HCL Bronze and Neutral Grey) so you can at least look through the same great lenses.
      Maui Jim's Kaiwi Channel also comes to mind as a comparable wrap frame although each of these has subtle differences to Island Time. Hopefully this helps you get on the right track and always keep in mind that our knowledgeable optician staff is standing by ready to help.

    I hate polarized lenses for looking at cell phone screens and car infotainment screens.

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That can be a concern, especially if you are wearing a low-quality polarized lens. In my experience, I don't have any issues with digital displays thanks to the quality of the polar filter in my Mauis. Try them out!

      I recently bought a pair of fantastic Maui sunglasses but unfortunately had to return them after I couldn't see through the rear window of my car. The view from the side mirrors were also distorted. Sadly all the Mauis are polarised and I am forced to consider another brand.
