    Just a tip for the next "How To Choose" guide: Use manual exposure/white balance settings on your camera and tune them on location to match your perception before you start shooting. This will prevent your camera from automatically adjusting to each sunglasses' lens, which should make the differences more apparent for viewers. I love these guides and greatly appreciate the insight that they can offer to people looking for their next pair of sunglasses! Keep up the good work!

      Hey! Actually in the process of redoing this as a series on each lens color now and while full manual control doesn't work because of the way sensors see vs our eyes. I'm able to adjust a few things quickly enough to make it work 😁 I would love your feedback on the newer ones in the series! 😁😁😎

    I worked in optical for 35 years and my favorite tint has always been amber. Great for playing any sport or for shooters! They’re always my go to but no matter how you tint it, it can never match the Serengeti lens! Of course nobody can duplicate a glass lens regarding tint….

      Dyes and tints can’t compare to a true filter media like colored glass. 😎 in a warm brown but not quite amber lover myself and the Serengeti is hard to beat. I’ve got a brown glass A that comes close though.

    This is very informative. Helped me understand my preferences. The blue mirror over grey or brown with or without mirror makes me happy. Also the lilac over grey works. As a perspective on use, the aforementioned colors help with turf disease diagnosis. If any of your clients are Agronomists, consider steering them in this direction.

    Thanks for the explanations and lens views! Question about best lenses for snow: Which combo would be best for snowy landscape with bright sunny blue skies, and which combo suits snow with blinding overcast skies? We have snow and sun during Spring, and the white sky+white snow is overwhelming. Summer on the other hand is totally green :) I have been trying Oakley Prizm and so far prefer the grey at 17% VLT as I get the clearest, most natural view. I dislike their Sapphire exactly for the reasons you gave: muddy and too rosy - I just couldn't see well. I am considering their Prizm Jade at 14% VLT, but it turns the sky a bit purple in Summer so far. Maybe it will be good for snow though? Any and all suggestions welcome, including other brands. I need small, light frames, currently using Sutro S and Holbrook XS Youth. Thanks again so much! Enjoying your videos :)

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So as much as I LOATHE Vuarnet, their skilynx lens really kills it in this area, particularly the blinding overcast sky. Recently the skilynx lens has been switched to polarized, so just be certain that works for your use case, as to me it ruins an otherwise perfect lens. That jade lens on paper should perform really well in that situation as well, albeit a bit too light for the full sun over snowy landscape. Look for something edging closer to that 10% VLT area (12-13% is fine) I wanna say Julbo has some offerings in this area, but haven't looked at them recently so that may not be true today.

    Hey man, hoping you can help me out! Looking to get prescription sunglasses due to my light sensitivity. I have really low numbers so I don't need to wear them indoors. I really only where them when I travel, go out in the sun (which isn't that often lol), and while driving at night (although I do have my backup regular prescription glasses for that since I don't know if using my prescription glasses is a good idea). My question is, I hate how most of the tints change the colors of everything, like the brown or green is so ugly. So I prefer a dark grey/black tint to help my light sensitivity without affecting too many colors. Is polarized black/gray tinted prescription sunglasses good for me?

      Maybe you could do a similar video with various photochromic lenses from Zeiss, Transitions, etc., showing what they're like when activated and how they compare to fixed tint sunglass lenses? Better yet would be if you have samples with flash mirrors, too.

    • @ceruleanstone
      @ceruleanstone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the meantime, I'm trying to choose between Photofusion Grey and Extra-Grey for a future pair of glasses, and I'd like to know which one is closest to a normal grey sunglass lens when you're out in the sun. In other words, is Grey like average sunglasses while Extra-Grey would be like super-dark sunglasses? Or is Extra-Grey more like average sunglasses and Grey is more like having a lighter tint? Just wanted to know your thoughts. Thanks!

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One day I'll put that together. Those samples are just hard to come by right now :)
      As far as the specifics, they both tint down pretty dark, I personally prefer the photo fusions dark for the extra reactivity off of ambient light, but the rough figures are 86% tint for normal and 92% tint for dark (14% and 8% VLT respectively) the former being more like your average just tint only glasses and the latter being more like a polarized and maybe a light flash mirrored lens. But don't think of them as a sunglasses replacement, because that's going to set yourself up for disappointment :) they're an easy to wear option that offers some darkness and comfort when you can't switch to dedicated sunglasses for the right situation, best in changing light conditions for extended periods of time 🙃😁

    • @ceruleanstone
      @ceruleanstone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThatGlassesGuy03 So when you say "I personally prefer the photo fusions dark", you mean the Extra-Grey, right?
      Also, a follow-up question on flash mirrors: does adding a flash mirror to a photochromic mean that the the end result for the wearer will be a) darker than without the mirror because the mirror reflects some light away, or b) lighter because by reflecting some of the light away, the mirror prevents the lens from darkening up as much, or c) about the same?

    I swear, I came to watch the video and read the comments and your responses to learn even more from them about different color lenses and mirrors and how it effects the actual, final view. I did not anticipate finding bunch of whiny childish grownups making idiotic mask comments but perhaps I should these days 😒. Anyway, your sound quality is good and we all hear you perfectly fine. I wish I found your channel before I ordered my sport RX glasses with mirror. They are brown XActive with silver mirror in crystal black frame with Shamir lenses. There is struggle with indoor lights and outdoor headlights of the bikes at night on trails to some extend. I have learned that they used flash mirror. I can exchange them once for free, as you know they cost pretty penny. You made a comment to me once under video that black mirror ( over brown or black?) would be easier to tolerate but I wonder if blue over brown or over grey would help to deflect more sun during the day yet make warm tone clarity at night. We have almost 16 hrs of sun during summer and like 18 hrs of darkness during winter 😂. Should flash mirror be used for best effect on XActive or no mirror and does denser mirror effect the darkening of transition lens? Also, do you sell sport specific glasses for higher RX, so I know for the future?

      That’s fairly variable… what type of driving, what time of day, where, what’s the environment like… and how much do you actually care about “best”. A generic recommendation is easy as rose and brown tones are generally good for a wide range of driving situations.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Christian.Anguiano Gotchya, yes their ruby is pretty intense and knocks down light colors quite a bit. If cataracts are in play that’s also a factor. If you can get your hands on them Rodenstock Road lenses are incredible and the glasses not insanely expensive. Next up is any of the Serengeti driving lenses, and this is what I would recommend for the widest range of use for your case (also skip polarized, you’ll have better depth and contrast out on the road… all but the longest black flat top stretches of road will benefit from this more vs polarization… in AZ and deserts with long flat black straights absolutely have a polar pair to throw on.) Maui Jim HT lenses get an honorable mention for twilight and overcast days as well due to transmitting more light and giving great color rendering. It’s a multi pair solution but spending that many hours on the road a week you’ll LOVE this. I only carry Maui of these options so can’t help you a ton but happy to help where and how I can. If you want to try it with one pair, I’ve designed my own filter that I’ve had incredible feedback on as a more universal drivers lens. 😎🥂

      Two fold, something very dark, but still warm spectrum of orange/brown. 1 to help with the intensity of light (add a mirror to help more) and the other because it is important to control the circadian rhythm to help with your sleep cycle. Essentially you want something to replicate the evening sun while still increasing darkness :) the vuarnet eclipse lens would be an excellent choice for this purpose to cover most of the bases. It may take a few different lenses to cover your various departure times and seasons as the sun moves, but it would be well worth the multi pair investments :)

      Generally 40% or lower are good for that, but it's a but of a judgement based on what each person is comfortable with. For rx fashion tints depending on the lens material and any coatings we aim in the range of 20-35%. It's definitely not straightforward, but hopefully that helps some. The color also matters for how much VLT you can have and it still be comfortable indoors 😅

    I appreciate your page! For category 4 gray lenses to be the darkest “legal” color, how are some glasses able to get that jet black effect? Those seem much more darker than the category 4 gray lens

      Much like what the EPA is doing to automotive suppliers now that have been abusing labeling for years..... *not recommended for driving use* 🤣. Some use a slight mirror that only enhances the sheen to get there

    Do I need to add the option to have an anti reflection coating to polarised grey sunglass lenses or would that be pointless/ a waste of money? (It costs extra at most places I would order from).

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question. The answer depends on the frame selection and your preferences. A high wrap sunglasses frame that seals nicely around the face, it's not worth the added cost. A more fashion based or even ophthalmic frame with low wrap and non existent panto... unless you love seeing the reflection of your eyes and everything behind you, it is a highly advisable choice to add :)

      @@ThatGlassesGuy03 Thanks, great advice. It's a similar shape/style to Rayban Wayfarers, not a wraparound, so will go for the anti reflective coating as an add on.

    Absolutely love the blue lenses on the porsche glasses at the end there! Wish I could afford a pair myself but unfortunately I'm outside the US and probably don't have the budget for the super high-end lenses. Just wondering if you thought a more generic blue mirror on a brown lens would do a half-decent job of recreating that effect or if it would just be a waste of money without the exact specs to copy.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if you have access to revo where you are but their H20 Glass is a pretty close second. 🙂 a generic lens wouldn't cut it as this is a specifically designed filter and mirror combination 😎

    What applications would a green mirror over gray base be for? I didn't see that combo. I'm looking for something I can use for field sports, tennis, and maybe even running and cycling.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have a sample of that one but I rarely ever use it. Grey is neutral and since our eyes largely work in the green bands a green mirror on top of that just takes the edge off of foliage and greenery. Perhaps good for cycling on a mountain but I would still lean towards a contrast enhancing base instead of grey. Field sports are often in bright open areas where direct sunlight is the biggest enemy and overhead skies of blue are the enemy, grey for darkness with a blue mirror in those cases 🙃 *the caveat being if you are playing in a more forested area with a lot of trees and greenery to contend with the green mirror can be comforting there. Also consider a rose lens with gold mirror for something very universal for all of the above ❤️‍🔥

    • @dylanwbarnes
      @dylanwbarnes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @That Glasses Guy thanks so much! I've got a pair of gold mirror over rose. They're beat up but do the trick. I just got a pair with a yellowish brown tint that will probably help with contrast. I don't really like the view through dark brown lenses, too much color distortion. I just got a pair of green mirror gray base lenses because I like green! I also coach soccer and spend a lot of time looking down at the grass, and I hike. Maybe blue would be better, or maybe green for taking the edge off all that lawn since I won't be looking skyward much anyway. I'm in Florida where it's always sunny.

    • @ThatGlassesGuy03
      @ThatGlassesGuy03  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dylanwbarnes it makes sense to me you wouldn't like brown in those cases. Same reason I advise golfers in our area to avoid brown lenses as much as the contrast on the green is beneficial. Way too many trees around on our fields and the green pop is way too much making vision uncomfortable 🙂... for one to try, check out the vuarnet grey polar blue mirror. It includes a contrast boosting filter which helps negate some of my arguments against polar (literally the only polarized lens I'll wear) but also gives some of the benefits of a brown lens with the addition of the contrast filter and the blue mirror shifting the spectrum just a touch to the warmer side 🙂

    I'm in search of a rare Gray lens. It's almost like a "flat gray" . I've seen people on very rare occasions wearing them. They do not look like sunglasses. I believe they may be prescription lenses being thay they were on Eyeglasses.. I dont know, anyways, any chance you may direct me to that type of lense?
    My purpose of wanting these type of lenses are to wear indoors and for privacy due to a right eye injury (heavily scarred and lazy).
