After speaking with Maui Jim, The blue Hawaii land single gradient lands therefore they can’t add the “squint” technology to it as compared to the natural gray lens, so that’s why it looks different and Lets more light in as it’s a single gradient, it’s not adding any brown to the spectrum, still a gray lens.

The green mirror to me looks a little more purple than bronze. It's a weird beast for sure - held away from the eye you can see a purple/pink cast. But once you put it on, it goes a little blue/green. I don't think MJ mentions that anywhere on the site, and I always assumed it was gray. The MJ bronze is my least favorite of their tints. A great lens, but too much yellow for me. Yes, HT for golf... and hiking. Then rose for skiing. For all day at the beach, I would use grey or bronze. or rose (high overcast) Great analysis, great presentation.
Thank you for making lots of great videos i especially enjoy the big head ones, since I always had a hard time finding sunglasses that fit me. Hey Claus, Graham your Maui guy here. Interesting question! Great video. Can I ask an unrelated question about cleaning? Any thing wrong with using a plush style microfiber rather than the silky microfiber that usually comes with glasses?
Good question! Nothing wrong with using it other than it may leave some loose excess fibers on the lens surface after cleaning. There's also a greater chance of a small grain of sand, or something that size, getting into the fibers of the cloth unknowingly, which could scratch the lens surface when attempting to clean it. But as long as the cloth is clean, then you should be fine.
I never thought I'd look up something like this, but here it is and it's awesome. Thanks so much for doing this. I'm wondering if you could confirm. The other day a friend of mine had a pair on and i asked to try them. The lens was like nothing i've ever experienced: sort of a Purplish but not purple, it might be the Rose. I'm really wanting to confirm if what i was looking through was Rose or something else. It was amazing. He didn't know what it was because they were a gift. Also, I really like the frame you're displaying. Wondering (I may have missed, sorry) if you could tell me the name of the frame? Great Work!!! Thank you!! Sorry: the frames I'm asking about are the first few you model, the rose, etc. Again, what I experienced: I don't quite want to use the word "purple" very light "purplish" I'm guessing it was rose. Thank you.
HI Chris! Sounds like you were experiencing the MJ Rose tint which boasts amazing contrast and color boosting technology. The frame featured in this video with the rose lens is the Maui Jim Haleakala! 👇 www.sportrx.com/maui-jim-haleakala.html
Are there reasons why you would want to get one of the bi gradient lenses over the lenses with a solid mirror or vice versa? Is it just an aesthetic preference? I was trying to decide between the Maui Rose and Maui Sunrise.
I live in the Desert around the Phoenix area...do a lot of hiking. Blue Mirror or just Neutral Grey? Sensitive eyes and I I imagine the Bronze would be great but may need something darker...thoughts?
Hey Robert! Personal preference aside, Bronze has as tendency to make desert environments appear hotter whereas grey presents a refreshing outlook while keeping colors neutral. Grey/green is another great option. The blue mirror might be the way to go if you live in the Phoenix area. It will warm up the tones just a bit while blocking more light from passing through the lens, lowering the overall VLT. You're definitely on the right track 👍
Thanks for this, it's awesome!! Green vs Lava; Rose vs Bronze, is there a significant difference between the two to where it would be worth buying both of them? Or is looking through both them similar to where the average person wouldn't know the difference? When you showed the rose and bronze filters, the bronze looked a little bit "darker" and maybe a little more contrast.
That's a good question, Ed! I'm definitely a proponent of having both a rose as well as a bronze-based lens in one's collection since they offer very different tones to your visual field, yet both provide robust color boosting and contrast enhancing tech. It depends on the light conditions combined with the environment and/or activity regarding choosing which lens to use on a given day. Rose on the golf course, bronze on hikes for me. You can't go wrong with a stable of lens options for different applications, but many folks get by with only one or two options. Hope this helps!
I bought Ray ban 3689 sunglasses which has polarized glass lenses with metal body 2.5 years ago...but it's golden coating has slightly got eroded.. So I'm looking for sunglasses which has glass polarized lenses with full titanium body.. Hey Rob, quick question for you. I recently got a pair that has the Maui Sunrise lens. This might sound like a weird question, but sometimes when you are using your peripheral vision to look side to side you see little pink spots in the lenses. It's almost like you would think the lenses is scratched and the coating is coming off, but it's not. I don't know if that question makes sense, but have you ever heard of anything like that happening before? Thanks a lot for your help man, appreciate it and love the videos!
Thank YOU for watching! Interesting🤔 Sounds like dust particles collecting on the lens or possibly dried water spots. Send a couple photos of what you're describing to info@sportrx, and one of our opticians will review the images and get back to you with an answer!
Not sure what hat size has to do with sunglass lens color but if it is any condolance but I too need a size 8 hat and I like the rose color. BTW, more too the point of head size, if you are looking for awsome palm leaf hats, check out Sunbody Hats. They are one of the few companies that actually cater to guys with big heads. I have bought two of theirs recently and I really like them and they will do custom designs for no added cost. Just a heads up.
I have red sands in the Hawaii lava already looking to get another pair of red sands or if you have a recommendation for a bigger head Frame. Looking to either get rose or sunrise lenses please help me. Thanks
They say that Hawaii Blue is based on a grey lense, but this is simply not true. There are two versions of Hawaii Blue: MP and MB. MB is used in older models (for example, Alelele Bridge B438-03M), some of them no longer manufactured. It is based on a green lens. The resulting view-through is quite ugly, IMO. MP is the newer one - the best MJ lens in my opinion - which is based on a bronze lens (Mavericks, Red Sands, Big Wave, Ho'Okipa, Pokowai Arch, Hikina, etc). The colors are close to natural, but with tweaked saturation and very slight bronze tint. It is a very bright lens and can be easily worn in dusk conditions. Nothing to do with grey. Source: I tried about ~10 models with Hawaii Blue lens.
100% right. I have the second model and it’s my go to golden hour pair, I never thought I could find a pair of lenses that would make the golden hour even nice that it naturally is, but blue Hawaii does it
Hey there I'd like to buy either Local Kine or the Makoa glasses, but I'm not sure what would look better on me. I have a larger head, which of the two is the bigger pair of glasses? Thanks
Each Maui Jim lens caters to different environments and visual preferences. You can learn more, about them in our Maui Jim Lens Color Guide! www.sportrx.com/blog/maui-jim-lens-color-guide/
i just got a pair with blue Hawaii lenses. was pretty disappointed to be honest. the lenses gave off way more of a magenta tone than an amber or brown tone.
I have ordered several eyeglasses and sunglasses through SportRx for my prescription. If I ordered a Maui Jim would I be able to with my script and would they actually be glass Maui Jim lenses.
Hey there! Assuming you're in range for their proprietary lab, SportRx can absolutely make a set of Rx Maui Jim frames for you. However, they do not produce prescription lenses in a mineral glass material.
You are correct - there are a few specialty dual mirror colors: Silver to Black over Neutral Grey, Gold to Silver over HCL Bronze, and Blue to Silver over Neutral Grey. None of these are available in prescription, so we did not include them. It would make a good video to focus on these specialty colors; we'll have to add it to the docket!
Hello! It depends on your individual tint, mirror, and lens type preferences as well as your sensitivity to bright light. Most people opt for neutral gray for its true color tone depiction. But others prefer rose or bronze base tints for their color-enhancing benefits. Regardless of which you choose, your eyes will be 100% protected from harmful UV rays.
can you give me your opinion? I got neutral gray bird ones the blue version but for some reason the have the actually a little orange in them :( Why did Maui Jim not mention it on their web page?
I think I got already my answer like you said the blue effect changes the neutral gray to little orange :( I wish Maui Jim would mention that. Wonder if the green color does the same thing? On my wanderer maui jim I had the white silver reflection but it did not change the color at all
Hi there! She's wearing a since-discontinued MJ aviator model called the Ebb and Flow. You may still be able to find a few of them online from private sellers.
I am torn between the MauiGreen and Maui Lava lenses. I am looking for a vibrant color mirror and vivid colors when looking through the lens. Which would you recommend?
Well, we can say with confidence that you won't be displeased with either one, as they both look amazing! I am especially fond of the Lava lens. Hi! It depends on the application. MJ makes some of the best lenses on the planet, but many of their frames and lenses aren't typically suited for sport applications. Smith Chromapop tech delivers great color and contrast for a variety of sport settings. But if it's for everyday casual use with some mild sport applications, steer toward MJ: 👉 www.sportrx.com/brand/maui-jim.html 🔥

The South Swell which was fairly similar to the New Wayfarer 58 eyesize was discontinued. If that was the size you were looking into, I would look around for the South Swell with Neutral Grey lenses. Otherwise, Maui Jim is always coming out with new styles so be sure to subscribe to view future releases :)

Hi guys love your videos! Not related to this one but i need your advice: which goggles is the best between anon wm1 and wm3? Which one had the widest view? AND finally which one has the widest/best view between anon wm1/3 and oakley flight deck xm? I'm hesitating between the 2 brands and want to male the best choice. Thank youuu
Wow, you're not making it easy! You're debating between some of the best in the field! It sounds like we need to do a WM1 vs WM3 video ASAP. The WM1 is spherical (as is the Flight Deck XM) and the WM3 is cylindrical. We found a bit better peripheral in the WM3 over all the options here. You'd be getting an amazing goggle, no matter which option you go with. Some things to note - the lens tech is amazing, no matter which you decide on, but Prizm is probably nearest and dearest our heart. Also, don't miss out on that MFI (Magnetic Facemask Integration). Especially these days, it is amazing to have the integrated face mask. It is certainly the best face mask setup you'll ever use. Also, the Anons offer a bonus lens so you have a lens for brighter conditions and lower light/snowy conditions. @@sportrxeyewear thank you so much for the detailed answer. It was excatly what i needed and yes! There is zero videos right now about the wm3 and especially the diff between these and the wm1. I think the sunny red lense would be too dark on cloudy days 😡😂 if you think otherwise let me know! Thank you
The Cliff house is the best by far, classic aviator never gets old. Great for Golf, lightweight Titanium and that’s silver frame is killer look in off the course. Don’t like the plastic so much anymore, look cheap
I usually go with the neutral gray, that is the most protected. I’m a truck driver and I have very sensitive eyes. I was thinking about getting one of the colored lens either the blue green or lava red. I’m very partial to the color red so I thought about getting red lava but I’m not really sure I like the base HCL. I like that the green and the blue happy neutral gray base. What do you think?
In my opinion, Hawaii Blue provides the best look of the world (heightened contrast with added saturation/warmth/pleasantness to the view but without exaggerating too much), with very limited darkening. However, is not very protective against brightest light. I would use it exclusively expect for direct sun-in-the-eyes scenarios. I find MJ's gray lenses too dark most of the time, with a hint of depression. If you need something darker than Hawaii Blue, check out Sunrise. It is probably 66-70% point between HB and Gray. Looking through Sunrise is nowhere near as pink as this video shows. It look natural with a hint of warmth (less than HB) but quite a bit darker.
@Clay Pylant They say that, but this is simply not true. There are two versions of Hawaii Blue: MP and MB. MB is used in some older models (for example Alelele Bridge B438-03M), some of them no longer manufactured. It is based on a green lens. MP is the newer one - the one I like - which is based on a bronze lens. It is a very bright lens and can be easily worn in dusk conditions. Nothing to do with grey. Source: I tried about ~10 models with Hawaii Blue lens.
@Clay Pylant Depends how sensitive your eyes are. I can wear Hawaii Blue in full sun but I do not like really dark lenses (like regular Grey MJ lens). If you live in area with constant and strong sun, and are looking to significantly restrict the amount of light that gets into your eyes, HB are not for you. But from the UV and blue-light protection stand point (so what is actually damaging the eye), they should be just as good as any other MJ lense. Coverage/wrap-around depends on the model, not lens.
Hi! All Maui Jim Sun lenses come equipped with either a Bi-Gradient, Gradient, or Solid mirror and all offer 100% UV protection. This includes Neutral Grey lens which has one of the lowest VLT (Visible Light Transmission) percentages of all the tint options. For those with a high level of light sensitivity, the Neutral Grey will likely provide the most relief and allow the eyes to relax, especially in bright daytime light conditions.
That is a great question! It depends on what type of fishing you're doing. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong with any Maui Jim lens. They're amazing! There can be some options that may better suit the type of fishing you're doing. If sight fishing (flats, rivers, fly, etc) is where you're at, then get something contrast-enhancing like our favorite HCL Bronze and Maui Rose. If you're deep-sea fishing, go for the Neutral Grey or Maui Blue Hawaii. You don't have to be limited to these options! You can always call our friendly, knowledgeable opticians for all the tailored assistance you may need at 888-831-5817
Hi Jonathan, both of those lens options fall into Category 3 for light transmission. The exact vlt depends ultimately on the lens material and what mirror type is applied but generally speaking it falls between 8-18%.

@@sportrxeyewear You=Amazing! Thank you!
Are there reasons why you would want to get one of the bi gradient lenses over the lenses with a solid mirror or vice versa? Is it just an aesthetic preference? I was trying to decide between the Maui Rose and Maui Sunrise.
2024 and VERY helpful, thank you.
Which lens will be best for low lights, like indoors?
I want to buy one of each!
We don't blame you, it's hard to narrow down your choices! XD
What are you wearing as you start the video? Looking for a prescription in something like that style.
Rose is amazing

Hi, I'm looking for fishing sunglass for size 8 hat. Withc 2 lense color would you recommend.
Thanks
what is the model of the frame on 0:32? thanks for the informative video.
No problem and thanks for watching! The frame is a long since discontinued model. Not sure of the name as it was released years ago. Sorry bout that!
Hello great vid! Which Maui frame pair is with the green lenses? 8:03
Mongoose! 😎
100% right. I have the second model and it’s my go to golden hour pair, I never thought I could find a pair of lenses that would make the golden hour even nice that it naturally is, but blue Hawaii does it
@@G0rdy92 definitely not 100% right lol it comes on a grey lens for super thin glass. Source: I own a pair
Are sure the brilliant is the old technology and the pure is the new one? MB website says the exact opposite.
If the rose tint is your “favourite lens on earth” - what’s do you recommend for space travel please?😂

Great info!
Thanks Kevin, Glad it was helpful! 🙌
Hey there I'd like to buy either Local Kine or the Makoa glasses, but I'm not sure what would look better on me.
I have a larger head, which of the two is the bigger pair of glasses?
Thanks
Bronze lens are not for driving, but grey lens are absolutely for driving👈👍 and also for neutral colors👈, especially look out the traffic lights😀
Each Maui Jim lens caters to different environments and visual preferences. You can learn more, about them in our Maui Jim Lens Color Guide! www.sportrx.com/blog/maui-jim-lens-color-guide/
That’s not true
Grey lenses are definitely not for driving apart from bright, direct sunlight.
I actually prefer my bronze for driving over my grey unless it's direct sunlight
Does the Mirror finish affect the squinting compared to the Bi-gradients? which is better, or are they non-noticable. appreciate the help :)
HI! Both should eliminate the need to squint due to the low VLT percentages and backside AR (Anti Reflective) coatings.
i just got a pair with blue Hawaii lenses. was pretty disappointed to be honest. the lenses gave off way more of a magenta tone than an amber or brown tone.

Make video on gold and silver dual mirror lens it’s been missed in this !
Which lens is good for Canada winter?
Yellow
Bronze and neutral Gray are the best
Where's the original video with those modeling the different color lenses?
Please help; Which colour of lens is the best for sunny weather and driving in sunny times?
On my wanderer maui jim I had the white silver reflection but it did not change the color at all
The lens rose your show what is the name of the frame it is good is your mention the frame name at the same time and maybe the size thank you
Excuse me , can you please tell me which model does the girl in 7:30 is wearing? Thank you in advance!
It's a beautiful and unique lens!

Maui jim vs smith rx lenses. Is there a big difference in quality?
@sportrxeyewear what makes the MJ lenses better for everyday use?
Do the new mirror coatings simply reduce the VLT? (Understanding there is a slight impact to existing lens color)
Hey Steve, yes any mirror applied to a tinted lens will reduce the VLT percentage.
Looking for a pair Maui Jim's that are similar to Ray Bans New Way Farer and much darker for beach life. ⛱️ That exist?? Still shopping around. Thanks!
@SportRx Do this show the eyes the sun like Way Farer's? I don't want that. Natural Grey Polarized is the one you are referring to?? TIA!

I love my prescription Maui Jim sunglasses. My lenses have strange cracks. When you look at the lenses , at an angle. There seems to manifest hundreds of tiny cracks. What is this.

Bronze lens with purple mirror? Is it possible?

No, YOU’RE awesome!
You are awesomer!
The Cliff house is the best by far, classic aviator never gets old. Great for Golf, lightweight Titanium and that’s silver frame is killer look in off the course. Don’t like the plastic so much anymore, look cheap
Why cliff house? What’s wrong with the Mavericks?
@@impact0r unfortunately you failed to mention that Blue Hawaii in super thin glass is on a grey lens

Are you sure it’s not the other way round? Maui Brilliant is the newer lens technology and Maui Pure is the old one?
Where on sunglass is the lens type annotated?
Which lens could you see the eyes the least?
Does the mirrored lense give more protection than the neutral gray?
@@sportrxeyewear Thank you as I have very bad light sensitivity and you answered my questions exactly as I would hope.
Anytime! Glad we could help 😎
What would you recommend for the Fishing ?
That is a great question! It depends on what type of fishing you're doing. Generally speaking, you can't go wrong with any Maui Jim lens. They're amazing! There can be some options that may better suit the type of fishing you're doing. If sight fishing (flats, rivers, fly, etc) is where you're at, then get something contrast-enhancing like our favorite HCL Bronze and Maui Rose. If you're deep-sea fishing, go for the Neutral Grey or Maui Blue Hawaii. You don't have to be limited to these options! You can always call our friendly, knowledgeable opticians for all the tailored assistance you may need at 888-831-5817
What is the vlt on the blue and the green lenses?
Hi Jonathan, both of those lens options fall into Category 3 for light transmission. The exact vlt depends ultimately on the lens material and what mirror type is applied but generally speaking it falls between 8-18%.
Which of new lens colors would be best for freshwater sight fishing? Mostly in S. Florida, if that helps
HT for sure
