Considering the popularity of the Dual Rec (and all the current modelers out there), there are a surprising low number of Dual Rec sound demos, especially that go into this level of detail. Your demo is easily the best of them - Thank you for doing this! 🤟🤟
My pleasure!
This video should be categorized as relevant for humankind's progress, like the wheel, fire or transistors
Excellent demo. Thank you for showcasing ONLY Recto tones without putting gobs of reverb and delay in there. The more I learn about and hear the Axe-Fx III, the more I want one.
It's kind of annoying how good they sound. My old Dual Rec rarely gets turned on now.
I can tell you often go for rather bright tones which almost sound overwhelming on their own but this is exactly what works in a live band situation or even double tracking heavy guitars. Greaaaaat tones really. I'm impressed by the axe III, too. It sounds stellar.
I play in a band with a very, very loud drummer and bass player so the brightness is about all I have to help me out :D
Thank you so mush for this! This helped me find that Mesa tone I've been looking for for over 10 years! That Variac and Power sag thing made a huge difference! That low mid roar! Fucking love it!
my new favorite scene is focused Orange . dial back the guitar vol pot you get clean, dial it up sounds nice n chunky with a good humbucker. Great demo @leonTodd .
You got it right, the Recto 1 is based on Rev. F. Rev G is what most people think about when they think about the perfect Mesa Tone. I prefer the Recto 1 since it feels way less compressed and more open. Recto 2 is based on the multi watt 3 channels Rectos that they make today. BTW guys Leon dials in a mean recto so his advice is gold!
The new ones are still great but man those old 2 channels ones are monsters.
Good stuff! I just ordered an Axe 3 and should be receiving it by Monday. This and the SLO are the amps I'm looking forward to the most.
i would like to ask you why mine sounds less gainy with everything setted to stock? is it output volume ? i dont belive its pickups ?
My guess is that he has his input gain up in the settings, or the pickups are hotter than yours/mine. I compensated by turning the input trim up on the amp to get Leons sound
I'd love to see you do a comparison between the AxeFX & the new Mooer Preamp Live.
I'd love to try one of the new Mooer pre's, it looks so good
Another excellent FAS tutorial. Great tones! Thank you, Leon.
Thanks for the amazing tutorial! Sadly, it looks like the copy/pasting function for the channel settings still works the same but the procedure of loading the new amp resets most of them to default :(
Great vid! I decided to get an SD-1w for my DR and I set it quite similarly to you. The boost and extra mids really adds clarity and takes any overbearing bass away. Absolutely one of my favourite amps. It's not just the sound but the feel and woody chunk.
Nothing feels like a Recto. It's such an exhilarating piece of gear.
I use this variac and power sag trick a lot. I used it JUST NOW on a BE100 model in AxeFXIII MKII, when I feel the low end is just different in my reference, and i need that squishy characteristic, but with balls, that works everytime!
This was great! I just recently got my axe fx 3 and I've been tweaking with it non-stop. You asked for suggestions so here's my request: Can you do this with a Diezel? And if you have time, combining a Diezel with a Mesa? Won't lie, I have a Metallica cover band, and James' Axe FX 2 dirty preset is with a Recto and Diezel and I've been struggling to get his current live sound. Either way, what I've learned here today is definitely going to help, thanks!
They should of named it AXE FX tweaker 3! I don't have the third version, but seems things haven't changed much with respect to the tweaking since the Ultra version.
It's a vastly different experience using the III than the ultra. Diezel vids are up
Dude your Awsome great tutorial thanks for the presets great starting points I’m new to fractal and love it your a great help cheers
Awesome, thank you!
Hey Leon, what pickups are you playing here?
Any chance you could do a video on dialing in either the Diezel or Bogner amp models on the Axe-Fx III? Or maybe even Fractal's own custom high gain amp models?
Diezel and FAS Amp videos are up on my channel :)
Got an FX3 coming this Monday. I am stoked!
Awesome!!!!
Sounds sooooo tight and powerfull 🥰🥰🥰🥰 @leon Could you please also demo some videos like these on Line6 Helix or Helix Lt??? Could be very very helpful 🙏🙏🙏 please make a video on Line6 Helix aswell
Awesome job!
Hey there, I know this is an old post but I just watched it (newbie!), and it sounds your guitar was tuned in D Standard, am I right? Thanks!
D standard with the low string tuned to C, so Drop C
Can you do a demo of the bright switch and the way the cap value interacts with the drive?
Great idea!
a historic document
I wish Axe would consider making a VST like Line 6 did with Helix....
DUDE me too!!!!!!!
It's been discussed, and as far as I know they've had a working VST for a while now but have chosen not to release it due to piracy concerns. i think of the Axe like the UAD Apollo stuff, where you need the hardware to run the plugins; Fractal just so happen to provide all the plugins for free!
Same here. Native is a great. Your dedicated computer is capable of running considerably more than the hardware unit. It'd be cool to do the same with iii.
To what end? VST interfaces for hardware arent ever really that useful.
Oh wait sorry I didnt realise they released the algorithms in a vst
You are *prolific.*
Nice one, Leon!
Thanks so much mate, I'm always inspired watching your vids :)
Love these videos. The recto models are sweet! Can you do a “Dialing in a Soldano SLO model”? 👍
I did a Soldano 5 minute tones a while ago, I should do a video that looks at all of them!
@@LeonTodd Thanks LT I'll look through the channel to find it. Getting ready for my FM3 invite to come soon so getting ready!
Well done and thanks for sharing brother!
Great tones
Thanks so much!
Why is it that your stock settings sound as if they have more gain than mine?
might be higher guitar output
@@LosAngeles234 thanks for the reply!
Pickups, strings, setup, picks and playing style are all going to add up there.
Man, I cannot dial in a good recto tone on my Eleven Rack. I got a bad ass mk is c+ patch. Cannot dial in a good recto. They always sound fizzy.
I wished they had looked at making these smaller rather than larger. I love the sounds that can be had out of these but I vastly prefer the lasting support model of Kemper.
I wish the axefx would have a basic view. I get so overwhelmed by all the knobs that I'll literally turn it off, wait a day or two, and then try again. I wish it just had the basic knobs like Volume, Gain, Presence, Bass, Mid, Treble and that's it. It's too overwhelming for me to get a tone I like.
Thank you, this is fantastic!
Nr.D! Nice bandname :)
Funny that any real recto docent sound as good...
Damnit that orange channel is ridiculous
Master on 3 is already starting to melt...put that thing down to 1.5 and you can dime the bass knob all day no problem
I'd love a Rammstein tone vid
That bug with input numerical values must be so iritating for you.
Apparently they're onto it and sorting it out which is going to make my life a lot easier :D
