    4 years later and this has really helped me. Although I had to set the gain and presence levels differently. Presumably the firmware updates changed some of the parameters. Good stuff.

    Dude, thanks so much for this tutorial. I'm new to the Axe III, never had any Fractal gear before and it's tonal options have almost given me a panic attack a time or two! I'm coming from the Boogie Triaxis/2:90 and Mk V head. I've been playing around with the C++ amp for a while and though had a few cool tones, your approach makes much better sense. HUGE HELP!!!! Thanks again.

      Thanks mate, that's great to hear. Once you get used to the fractal layout you won't want to go back. The C++ is worth the cost alone!

      @@chrismccrimmon6199 it takes a while to get where you want with it, but you won't be disappointed. I have tracked with my AxeFX III on the MkIIC++ setting on the left, and my MKV on the right using the same IR and you can't tell the difference in feel or sound. It's surprising that technology has come this far. The ease of direct recording with great effects is very helpful. I have done more musically the past six months than the last decade. Choosing the right IR is very important to your tone, and there is a seas of them. I would recommend getting the York Audio Mesa cabs, they are on sale RN for 15 bucks a piece. My favorite lead tone IR is actually a factory given cab that's in the Valhalla pack, I do think it's the old school open back Mesa cab with black shadows. I think I paid 15 for that pack also, but my fave was one of a handful loaded when it came.

      Buy a triaxis as it has the 2c+ already in there with the identical circuit. I have been using a fractal for 3 yrs now but when I got out my old rig with the 2:90 power amp it sounded in a totally different league in every way. There is simply no comparison and the Fractal is for bedroom practice use only from now on. I've played through the 2c+ in a store and it sounds exactly the same as my triaxis and so you can save a bucket load as they go for not too much on ebay comparatively.

    Please help. Mine doesn't even come close to sounding like this at the initial settings. I feel like it doesn't have the same input gain / distortion to it. I'm running straight into the Axe FX III and out output 1 into the power amp of line 6 catalyst amp with the switch set to "power amp in". I turned off cab modeling and went back and forth with power amp modeling on and off to no avail. It just sounds way cleaner than what you have going on with "stock" settings at the initial selections of blocks.

    Hey Leon. I’ve been using this (slightly tweaked) as one of my main amps on the Axe3 for a while now. I know we are on FW 8 at present and I’m curious if you had to go back to presets like this one and others to “re-tweak” them given the new parameters the various FW upgrades have offered. I wonder if you’d be at all interested in skype style lessons for Axe FX 3 tutorials. I was on FW 7.01 since August and my rig started acting really weird at practice yesterday. Out of nowhere I started getting ice pick frequency responses from the preset and I never changed a thing through all the FW updates. Bottom end was barely there as well. The preset had always been fine. Then when I got home to investigate it further, I found a bunch of presets were out of whack. I downloaded FW 8 and it seems to have resolved some things, but the preset still seems to be missing something I can’t put my finger on. Sorry for the rant, but any help would be appreciated before I assess whether or not I have to send this out to Fractal for some kind of repair.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't noticed anything drastic with my presets - I've been running the master volume on the mark series amps around 2.5 these days so the power amp modelling changes probably don't have as much impact as if I had the master higher.

    • @1octavarius
      @1octavarius 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @1octavarius
      @1octavarius 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a quick update. I have my preset to a point where headphones and bedroom playing sounds great. Where I run into an issue is higher volume playing for band practice/gigs. The tone shifts so drastically that I can’t pinpoint how to tweak it to sound closer to the lower volumes. Should I crank the output volume of the AxeFx and adjust the FRFR cab volume as needed, or preset the cab volumes and use the output volume on the AxeFx for my volume swing? I know it won’t be perfect, but as a comparison, I loaded up your “ LT Sykes” preset, and that thing sounds amazing at low and high volumes alike. I am a novice when dialing in these amps. I appreciate you taking the time. As always, thank you.

      I gotcha...if you can get ahold of a old Mark series I think you'll be in tone nirvana...the newer ones are great but left me missing the mojo I have in my MKIIIC++.

    I got it sounding alright. it's pretty harsh on my ears though. I guess that's just the boogie and not a boogie man

    I want to buy one of these so bad. $2200 is a lot, but it definitely is worth it. I need to find money lol

    I Hate to say !! But this unit seems complicated and confusing !!? Just tweaking it to get really edgy cool sound effects etc !?? 😨😰

      It depends on what your reference point is; real Mark series amps are complicated beasts to dial in so it's no harder than that. Is it as plug and play as a Marshall Plexi? Maybe not, but can a Plexi sound like any amp o effect i want? It's as simple or as complex as you want it to be.
