I was born in the late 50s . I grew up listening to Elvis ,Johnny Cash ( more what my parents listened to.) Then came 1969 - Woodstock, yes I was there ,that's when my choices of music was first made.I was only 13 but it had a lasting effect on my choices of music.I only wish I were a bit older then, to experience the full effects of Woodstock & know that I experienced " musical history" at its best.🎶🎵🎸✌️

For my ears I think the difference between Mark’s Dire Straits days vs Solo career is his DS songs, especially the live performances were much more epic, while his Solo career touches my soul much more. More nuance, more reflection on life. His solo career songs are more apt to bring genuine tears, deeper emotions. Dream Of The Drowned Submariner, from the Privateering CD, is such a beautiful song. As is the song Monteleone. You will not be disappointed in either.
Another great song from Knopfler, made even more special by the incredibly talented Ruth Moody. Such a great collaboration. I love Mark's solo career, and I agree with one of your comments on another video Dominika, about his Dire Straits stuff being so different. I'd find it difficult to pick which one I prefer. I'd say Mark's singing and song writing have continued to improve with each passing year, much like a fine wine, but his guitar playing back in the Dire Straits days was off the charts. His playing became much more subtle. He still has that great ability to sing then have the guitar reply, but he has definitely toned it done since the stadium days. Either way, another great reaction. Thanks folks ♥

Nice. The saxophone solo won me over completely. Didn't realize how much I needed a nice romantic slow song..... Don't hear much romance anymore. Haven't really thought about it but this song brought a lump to my throat. In the turbulent stressful times we need to remember...

I'm not sure "romantic" is the right adjective. It's a song about friends whose lives have taken them down different paths so they only meet up occasionally but their friendship nevertheless endures and remains constant. Sung as a male/female duet it could be interpreted as being about siblings. The line "Now I've got leave you brother" would be rather disturbing if it was about romance! It is an incredibly beautiful composition.
Mark and Ruth have quite a few songs together. Pockets is a gorgeous song. It's my favorite one with Ruthy. Also love Seattle, Kingdom Of Gold and Go, Love all from Mark's album called Privateering from 2012. Cheers all the best from Australia 🙏🎸🎸
So much solo Knopfler to recommend, like all of it. But particularly Let It All Go, So Far From The Clyde, After The Beanstalk, Go Love, Yon Two Crows, Redbud Tree, Get Lucky, Song For Sonny Liston, 5:15 A.M., Imelda, Devil Baby, Punish The Monkey, Cleaning My Gun, A Night In Summer Long Ago, What It Is, Boom Like That, Why Aye Man, Good On You Son....so damn many and so many more worth mentioning. Love your reactions, carry on with the journey it makes you and others smile.

Thank you for your lovely reaction! A quietly beautiful song from a bit of a melancholy yet heartfelt album. If you are interested, I recommend checking out the video called: Mark Knopfler - Tracker - A Track by Track for some insight and the 5 min Tracker film. I always find it fascinating to listen to Mark simply talk and detail the stories and ideas that inspire his songs. It is clear how much care, love, depth and attention to detail he still pours into the songwriting, creation and production of his music.
Ruth Moody is an amazing solo Canadian artist in her own right, as well her time with the Wailin Jennys . Mark Knopfler also guested on her These Wilder Things album (fantastic album) and they do another great duet together called Pockets. Check it out! PS I would like to formally ask whoever was suggested this to marry me... ❤
You're right and in addition I would like to point out that Ruth is a very nice person. I met het in early summer of 2012 at the Zenith of Caen and we talk a little bit after her first part of the Mark's concert. Nice voice, nice song writer.

In Mark's soundtrack work some of his instrumental tracks are really beautiful. The Long Road from the film Cal is extremely anthem and well worth a listen....
Another song with Ruth and Mark is Pockets. It is also a Sunday afternoon cake-baking song.
