Lovely reaction, it’s great to see your understanding & appreciation of this performance. Mark & Chet became very good friends & spent a lot of time together. They also made a collaborative album called ‘Neck & Neck’ released October 9th, 1990 that😊 included Poor Boy Blues which won ‘Best Country Vocal Collaboration’ & the track ‘So soft your Goodbye’ won Best Country Instrumental Performance at the 1991 Annual Grammy Awards. Mark’s music incorporates so many genres & instruments but to paraphrase his own words, there are no rules in making music and he personally doesn’t adhere to one specific style. He has collaborated as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer etc with many, many artists over the years, and for sure a light will go out in many hearts the day he stops making music. I❤MK
Simply it is amazing performance. Every time I hear this videohave goose bump! Two outstanding musicians perform song on the highes level, beside the full attention to each other in the otherhand absolutely easy looking! I like them both - their common album Neck & Neck is awesome!
They are so relaxed. I don’t believe either one ever even thinks of the possibility that they might play a wrong note. It’s just not in the realm of possibility.
You might like to check out some of Mark’s Solo output from 1996 to date, with another band of exceptional musicians. I recommend ‘Hill Farmer’s Blues’ - Cordoba 2010 -HQ, he never fails to find your emotions with his guitar strings. His storytelling lyrics are well worth noting too. ❤
When they compile the top 10 guitarists they always opt for the shitty rock guitarists, but these 2 are real proper guitarists that those rock band guitarists could only dream of getting anywhere near knopfler and Atkins 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
You'd be surprised at the rock guitarists that can play like this. Maybe not up to the ability of Chet and Mark. But some are very talented. but Rock pays the bills.
I really like your reactions! I’m a guitarist as well and really enjoy watching other musicians react. I would really love for you to Marcus King, he is a fenomenal guitarist that play rock and blues but studied jazz so he puts a great colorful jazz twist on everything. the song listen to Marcus king and billy strings playing “summertime”. Thanks and cheers
The Chet Atkins TV special has good playing from Atkins and Knopfler. Waltz for the Lonely is good and I'll See You In My Dreams is even better, in my opinion...
As I am unemployed and living with hardship, I will not be able to be a member of your Patreon and so I do not ask for reactions to songs. The only thing I ask here is that you raise the volume of your microphone, especially when commenting while the song is playing. In general, I like your comments and I wish I could understand what you say during the song. Thanks and keep going!
Love your reactions. With respect, talking over the performance constantly is not a good thing. Stop the video and say what you say then let it play again etc.
I like your reactions, so much, because, as a classical guitarist, you're not arrogant, jaleous, like all the classical musicians, who are jaleous about rock guitarists, musicians😂😂😂😂😂you just tell the truth....I love Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Mark knopfler, etc....But, i like : Paco de Lucia, Al di Meola, John Mc laughing, THE LIVE THEY DID, (McLaughling, lived, and played with Hendrix😂)....I love Chopin, and Bach too....MUSIC IS MUSIC....OR IT TOUCHES YOUR HEART AND SOUL OR NOT.....That's a super video....MARK is a super fan of Chet Atkins, that's why he started to create that special finger style, which is UNIQUE....But: after the technical skills, there are the sounds, the compositions, the voices, the lyrics, etc....HENDRIX IS THE Number 1.....Please, try to watch the COMPLETE VERSION OF "VOODOO CHILD", LIVE AT WOODSTOCK 1969, 12'30 MINUTES LONG.....MADNESS....AND "MACHINE GUN", LIVE BAND OF GYPSIES, 1970, NEW YPRK FILLMORE EAST... Then you will see, why we all say HENDRIX is the greatest musician EVER.....
Oh my that was quite special 💚💙

‘Neck & Neck’ is a fantastic album for sure. 🙂
This is the video that made me pick up a guitar 10 years ago...I still suck as a player, but it's been a lot of fun!
If you go to a Mark Knopfler concert there is always a camera trained on his hands so the audience can see his picking style.
I can’t believe that I never heard this. Love it 😊

Simply...great!!!

For these two playing the guitar is like breathing. It doesn't cross one's mind that they could breathe wrong.
They did an album together: Neck and Neck. Worth checking out.

I believe this performance was at a "Secret Policeman's Ball", a show combining comedy and music to raise money for Amnesty International.

I get your point and agree, but no rock guitarist in any top 10 list is shitty.
you are spot on Django never gets a mention in the greatest guitarist polls but most of the players on the polls say he was untouchable.
You'd be surprised at the rock guitarists that can play like this. Maybe not up to the ability of Chet and Mark. But some are very talented. but Rock pays the bills.
@@rp89d28 Absolutely. And, of course, Mark himself is a rock guitarist who can play like this.

La musica ahora es muy de ordenador
This is an outstanding performance but give a listen to Django,s version. Bear in mind he improvised it on the spot
