Thanks for doing this test. Really helps me out a lot. I ride mostly trails and thought if I got a bigger sprocket it could also help my battery range. I rarely ride over 35 miles an hour so I'm not worried about top speed
Thanks for posting. We have two identical sur ron Xs .. I put a 54T on mine, my son's is stock. My twin brother (he's a bit heavier than me!) rides at the same speed-ish. On a long woods trail, we didn't notice much speed difference, but he had better battery life. I am not sold for my riding that going from 48T stock to 54T made much difference. I think the Sur Rons are tuned fairly well matching the 48T to be honest!
Right, it all depends on the rider’s riding style for sure. I ended up going with 52t but I struggle to keep up with my friends with 58t in the technical uphills.
@@ridefarm5528 I may have to try 58T. Better traction and success on technical uphils, slippery single track is what I'm after! 58T makes the difference?
Thanks a lot for doing this comparison. I had put on the 64 tooth sprocket on my stock Sur Ron X with a non o ring chain, dual sport tires, body weight of 235lbs., and rode around San Francisco streets, especially doing some steep hills. I came up with almost twice as much battery drain on the bigger sprocket and barely noticed much difference in the torque. I ended up taking it off after 2 rides because my range was about 14 miles and top speed was barely 35 mph. I have yet to figure out what the deal was. I quickly switched back to my stock 48 tooth and the 64 tooth has been collecting dust.
@@ridefarm5528 It does only on low speed rides where you work on the torque. When hitting faster sections, it makes the motor rotate super fast which drains battery.
i notice that too, i put 42t sprocket and my battery last longer, with 48t the bike scream more, u can get the same speed with 42t and lower rpm on the motor..
Here's the thing about the first test, I believe it's because you have a speed you hit where you're not comfortable going over. Could be why it's similar.
@@ridefarm5528 I definitely know that isn't true because the 58 tooth props up the front wheel because the amount of torque bump it gets, you so were easing the throttle a lot more. I can even tell in the video you were. And this is me not being rude, I just think your test wasn't done correctly by human error. Just be honest man, it goes a long way. You might be thinking how I know this? Well I did the EXACT test you did but on my own trail of course with my buddy at the end with a stop watch and we tested both bikes, with a 48 tooth (stock) and the 58 tooth (upgraded) Everything stock besides sprocket (Times were) 48 tooth 2:12:11 58 tooth 2:08:50 That's a 4 and a bit seconds faster on the track and my front wheel kept shooting in the air when I'm on the throttle.
Forgot to mention, the trail is a very easy trail for me to remember and have good muscle memory so that extra 4 seconds wasn't because I did something slightly better, it was purely faster with the 58 tooth
Because MTB wheels were never intended to handle weigh of 112ib bike plus rider. With the speeds these bikes can do, the thing spokes of a MTB wheel could spell disaster. The stock 19” wheels already are prone to getting spokes bent broken and loose.
this is very individual, something suits everyone differently! And I think that this bike with a larger rosette is more advantageous than the original one, since you won't use the maximum one anyway. And Tacchini approx. 70 km/h, maybe with a full charge 75 approx. kilometers per hour on the level and the transition of the gear wheel to 58 rosettes is not a big drop in maximum. It drops to maybe 60 km/h or 65 km/h, which I think is negligible, as I wrote the maximum, you won't use the bike anyway, it is intended more or less for the forest, off-road, to have fun and not to go full throttle anyway, when it drops to about 90%, it loses the maximum or 80 %, you won't reach the maximum anyway, most riders buy the 58T gear wheel. It's the golden mean. Everything above is already without a replacement, like, for example, 64
I had a 58 tooth sprocket and was hitting around 40 mph then I put a 48 tooth on and my top speed was reduced to 35 mph. Anyone no why how how I can fix it. My front sprocket is stock so 14 tooth and was that way for the 58 and 48.
Yes on trails I'm getting more battery life, forgot to mention that in the video. However, on the street it uses way more battery. I don't ride on the street so doesn't matter for me.
if anything its a testament to how consistent your riding is, well done.

i usually strongly recommend everyone to get a 58, if they intend on doing any type of off roading. A huge difference.
Great side by side test. Loved it
Great video I run also run the 58 tooth sprocket very happy with it.
what a consistency! amazing comparison.
Man that muscle memory is real with you. Great video. Dope visual

That's weird, wonder what was going on..
For me, 58t yielded more battery life.

Awesome comparison. Thanks! :-)
did you notice any differences in range? Ive seen some channels claiming changes in that because youre on the throttle less etc?
yes, the 58t sprocket used about 10~15% less battery
Thank you! That’s what I was hoping to hear!!
Went to a 58 and I get about 12% better range.
Battery comparison on each size next, please!!
I should have recorded the battery level after the test! 58T used about 10~15% less battery

Great video. Thank you !!
Thank you!

best sur ron content on youtube !
do you recall any difference in battery life with the larger sprocket? thats assuming the battery was the same
The larger sprocket improved battery usage by a small margin
what audio setting is your gopro on? its not picking up the wind !!
I'm using the Foam windshield!
Why do you use front moto wheel? I think good mtb dh wheel would be enough but much lighter rotational weight.
I'm just using whatever came with the bike. I have no complaints.

Top speed on 58?
A side by side top speed would have been cool.
That I the brownest Forrest I've ever seen!
Long term test should be 2 teeth more! 48t vs 50t
They need to make a 50t!!!
I'm thinking of getting a 52T
Where do you live bro🤗
So cool!
Does it lower the top speed?
Yes definitely, but I haven't tested exactly by how much. The stock speedos on Surron is very inaccurate.
Crazy!
How does battery range compare between the sprockets?
The bigger one used about 10~15% less

Very minimal difference, I mean, one second, no biggie! imo

im about to buy a 52T. Is there much diffrence from the stock 48T?
only changes gear ratio to 3.7 from 3.4 beint the stock 48T
On the video. Around thé track he still go faster with thé 48 t . But feel more torque with 58 t . With 52 t je will be faster for sure
to be honest a straight line wouldve been a better test
something was wrong with your comparison, the 58t tooth should have eaten the 48 tooth alive on the track
Battery life is better....less wear.
I kind of get it and I kind of don't. It has more than enough torque, why not get fewer teeth and increase your top speed on the road.
I don't do much street riding. 90% trails
64T ftw
Depends on where you ride
