Thank you Dane 🌹can always rely on your videos for clarification. I had two encounters yesterday with someone from the opposite direction turning right and light was amber but I was too close so I carried on driving. Am I right to assume I have priority?
Are you supposed to give way to pedestrians at a permanently flashing amber signal at a junction? I find it confusing because there is a button for pedestrians presumably to wait on red stoplight to be directed at drivers however Rules Of The Road (Respecting other road users chapter, currently bottom of page 207 in 2019 current download edition) says "you MUST give way to pedestrians on or at a pelican crossing, when the amber light is flashing". I know to give way to pedestrians already crossing at a junction even with no traffic lights but was surprised to read it say that priority is given to the pedestrian at the crossing even if not on it. Therefore maybe the pedestrian button is merely a formality for those pedestrians who want extra security of the red stop light but is legally almost meaningless as the driver must stop for pedestrians "at" (as well as on) the flashing amber? Or maybe flashing amber is ambiguous which is confusing to drivers.
Do you mean a zebra crossing with the flashing Amber lights? Yes pedestrians have right of way but the pedestrians should make sure it's safe before proceeding.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I mean pelican style crossing with almost permanent flashing amber turn signal like where Ballyowen road turns left to Castle road at Pennyhill pub visible on Google maps. Even with flashing amber directed at drivers, the pedestrian light seems to show red signal to pedestrians. It is confusing because the ROTR mentions to give way to pedestrians at or on flashing amber crossings
Well if there's any kind of contradiction then pedestrians may not have as much priority. Caution is required but I wouldn't waste your time worrying about it unnecessarily.
I had an experience up in Finglas with a flashing amber arrow pointing left. Not pointing diagonally left/down - I know what those mean, but straight left. It was at a point where I was to turn left, entering a T-junction. My instructor told me that such an arrow denotes that I should give right of way to traffic on the opposite side of the road to me who also want to turn into this junction. Is this correct?
@@DaneTygheletsdrive m sorry, I meant when we turn before free left, should I stop before the first continues white line? Or can I keep on rolling slow while approaching the flashing amber.
Flashing Amber arrow or circle light? It really Depends on whether there's any traffic or people nearby, it's not like I can give you a simple one word answer.
Dane, I was at Harold Cross Bridge junction turning right last night. The lights were green. There was moped in front of me. I was in the middle of the junction as cars are allowed to do so and also because you need to as you can't see cars coming in front as the roads on our incline. The moped in front turned right and the lights went Amber I proceeding to go through as I deemed it unsafe for me to stop in the middle of the junction. Can I ask your advise?
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thanks. A Garda pulled me over and stated I ran a red light. I explained what I said to yourself. She wasn't havnt any of it and came across very aggressive and said I'm be getting points and a fine. I was flabbergasted by it.
I just had a horrible incident. I was in a line of cars on a very steep hill in our town. At the top of this hill you turn right. My traffic light finally went green. So I did my hill start and moved on to turn the corner. But in the middle of driving it went to amber. I kept going as assumed it would be dangerous to stop on a very steep hill like that. But then it turned red as I was turning right. So now I am confused totally as it was green when I initially pulled off. Should I have stopped totally even when it was amber?
You should stop at the Amber light if you have time to stop and you're not already committed. However if you were too far gone you were correct to keep going because you can't stay stranded in the middle of the junction after the lights go amber/red.
Dane Tyghe today I just failed in the junction as I was crossing the light was green and when I touch the solid line then comes Amber than I stopped before pedestrians line for pedestrians and I let pedestrians cleared off the road and moved forward but light was red.

+The Hammad Life Thank you for your comment, yes if you genuinely feel that it wasn't safe for you to stop then it was okay to continue on.
Agreed, Dane explaines things very well and you can learn a lot from each video. A great mentor for us drivers 😊!
I have a driving test Monday in wilton so scared don't feel ready for it at all binge watching all your videos until then
Best wishes with the driving test. Take it one road at a time.
Thanks a lot for the total clarification!
My pleasure
Thanks once again Dane. 🙌

It means the same as a yield sign yes, give way to traffic on the right or adjoining Road depending on the junction.
Where should we stop before free lest with flashing amber?
Free lest?

Sounds like you did the right thing, once you roll up into the middle there's no staying.

Sounds like the Gardaí doesn't know the rules of the road. If you get any fine or points make sure you appeal.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I am going to appeal although I might not get anywhere
If it's as you described then you clearly obeyed the rules of the road and the Garda simply didn't handle the situation properly.
Thanks for that. Just arrived in Dublin and was like "What does this flashing amber light mean?"
Best wishes and safe travels.
