Back in the days of film I used a long telephoto to take pictures of people on one of the bridges over London. I got to a high place where through the lens the people seemed to be stacked up on top of each other which gave quite powerful images. I noticed a man looking carefully at what I was doing and he seemed familiar. He was the editor of a well-known photographic magazine who referred approvingly to my approach in his next editorial. Exploiting the apparent telephoto compression of perspective can be very useful and effective.
I purchased this lens last year, mainly for moonrises & moonsets. With only 22mp in my Canon 5D III, it helps to get a narrower field of view without so much cropping. However, I have been out more recently capturing wildlife, too - even the odd bald eagle! You have now given me a few more ideas. Thanks, Nicole.
I saw a lot of the results of this combo, Canon 5d markiv with sigma 150-600mm, I was like the canon eos R, but I saw many reviews that sigma 150-600mm in R bodies, the autofocus system is not 100% mainly in servo shots , I really wanted mirrorless but I think I'll also be fine with the 5d mark iv, which will allow me to use sigma perfectly and save a.good.money on the purchase of lenses.
Congratulations Nicole, you have paid sponsorship. Thanks for making me homesick for DC. I retired from work and the hectic pace that has become the DC area. We moved to SC. The birding here is awesome but I grew up in NOVA and do miss the area. BTW, thanks for showing what the Sigma zoom lens can do. I own the 60x600. I have a dumb Question, what is the attachment you have on top of your tripod? Is it a ball head or a gamble?…
Hi Gary - thanks for the congrats (first sponsorship ever). I’m glad you enjoy the quieter pace in SC. If it wasn’t for work, I’d definitely move out of the dc area too. Anyway, the attachment is just a video head. ☺️
The timing of this video is uncanny. I was just downtown of my town with mine capturing images of the old courthouse at sunset. That lens is wonderful!
I recently bought the XF70-300 from Fuji (450mm full frame equivalent), my first serious telephoto lens. It’s just so much fun you can emphasize on details, which create stories by themselves. Obviously it’s pretty much glued on my camera now.
This is the comment I was looking for. I'm mainly an architectural and landscape photographer, but wanted to step back into wildlife as well. So it's good to know this lens will effectively do it all. Especially as this year I'm planning on selling my work and pairing this lens on my Lumix S5.
Great lens, I have been using mine for about 2 years. Mainly for wildlife, however, I have been using it and found it to be great for street photography in Italy.
Hi Nicole, I watched your video on affiliate sales, thanks so much for that. I'm curious if you have found an average number of views you need on a video such as this where you highlight a specific lens, in order to get 1 affiliate sale? I know things will vary quite a bit depending on the kind of lens, price, quality of video but have you found a way you can at least plan so that you can make some financial predictions when creating your videos. for instance "if I get 5,000 views on this video, I will get 5 affiliate sales.." or something like that. Thanks for your help.
I'm actually not great with that. I try not to be sales-y so I barely mention the links and thus, my affiliate sales are super, super low - way lower than other TH-camrs I know. Maybe if I was a full time TH-camr I would do a better job at promoting what I use, but right now I'm averaging around $50-$70 per month from Amazon with about 60,000 views per month across the channel. A friend of mine was almost making a full-time income from affiliate sales with only slightly more views than me, but that's because she focuses on promoting the products, whereas I don't really do that much...
@@NicoleGlass Hi Nicole, that is very helpful to know. Yeah, that was my thought, that it would really depend on the channel, what the channels focus was and how much they actively push those affiliate links. I have a few channels, the particular channel I'm writing from now is my Halloween related channel. I also have some channels that are doc video and music dance related. I film all the footage and considered doing some video and lens videos on it specific to my content but don't really know if it would be worth doing financially as I know thats not the focus of my channel. Thanks so much for answering I appreciate it.
@@HalloweenEye Wow, your channel is quite big! I'm guessing the people who watch your vids would be more likely to purchase costumes and makeup and such?
Can you please teach us how to take reflected photos using a dslr coz there are many people who look good only in thier reflection becoz of their assymetrical face🥺
I have the Nikon 200-500. Ever shoot a rocket launch? 🚀 Wallops Island is 3 hrs away from the DMV. Next launch of supplies to the space station will be on 2/19/22
I didn't think you were allowed to use a tripod in the national mall area. Has this changed? If so, good. There are images I want to create and I can't do them hand-held.
I think the rules changed - “Tripods are permitted everywhere on the National Mall, with the exception of the interior spaces of the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. Nighttime tripod use is also permitted.”
Hi Nicole, great review of this lens! I notice that you shot some timelapse clips. Did you have any issues with camera shake in the clips at those long focal lengths? I like to shoot timelapse videos and with long lenses there is the risk of shake especially if there is any strong wind. Thanks!
Good question. And yes - it was windy and even with the tripod I still had some camera shake. But warp stabilizer did a really good job at smoothing it out in Premiere. Results were good after that.
Yes it will, no need for adapter, just get a canon EF mount version of this lens and you’re good! Also mount the tripod to the lens not the camera if you do get this lens.
2 yrs already, where has the time gone? Yeah I couldn't bring that behemoth lens to an urban setting I just use that lens for birding maybe one day an airshow who knows
Super telephoto lens gives you a new perspective! An other way to look. If you want, you can check the time lapse project I am creating. I used a canon telephoto 100-400 for some of the shots. This is just a draft, hope you like it: th-cam.com/video/uoUzF6okyDw/w-d-xo.html

2:58 yeh some people seem to have an extra sense to notice if someone around has a camera pointing their way xD
I'm over in England and just love this lense . It's so versatile, has to be my favourite for my Canon

I been thinking of getting this lens or the Tamron 600mm. Keep up the good work Nicole, good to see your back on TH-cam. ;)
Thank you! The 600mm focal range is fun to shoot at. Enjoy!
This is great. I'm surprised no one bothered you about the tripod. Maybe this is another awesome benefit of using this lens from far away. 😀
Yea:) I used the tripod mostly when I was making timelapses or shooting small bits of video.
Great video Nicola. I use it on my R6 mainly for wildlife but it’s also great for landscape work. It give a completely different perspective.
Totally agree!

Greetings, Have you used this lens with a Canon R5 or R6 body? There are some confusing reports that it pulses with eye detection on the newer bodies.
Hi Nicole I have a Nikon d500 do you think that buying the sigma 150-600 contemporary it's a good deal for take photos birds and wildlife?
Hi Nicole.. another great video thank you... Do you have any videos f

Good question. And yes - it was windy and even with the tripod I still had some camera shake. But warp stabilizer did a really good job at smoothing it out in Premiere. Results were good after that.
I found that the lens hood can act as a major wind sail in some conditions, so it often helps to leave it off.
@@johnhillman2619 I pretty much never use a lens hood. Not because of the 'sail' affect but because I'm lazy.
You find it focuses after 450 mm?
Hi , I will buy this lens but I have question . Will this lens fit on my cameras without an adapter my camera is canon 200d
Yes it will, no need for adapter, just get a canon EF mount version of this lens and you’re good! Also mount the tripod to the lens not the camera if you do get this lens.
These are an interesting perspective but I agree the Lincoln Memorial up close is way better.
For sure ☺️
