Calculates and executes a video shooting session that involves the moon and an old tower on the horizon on a cloudy night (that looks amazing), and then rushes to pack up and drive an hour away to capture a to-the-second shot of the ISS passing in front of the moon. Epic. 'Glad I caught this video.
@@AlynWallace Amazing. This is the video which has convinced me to create moon backed photos of my children. Would you share how you predicted the ISS transit and location? Also your composite transit photo was from individual exposures or pulled from video frames?
Absolutely fantastic work, well done Alyn. I stumbled on this while researching which 150-600 superzoom to invest in. I completely forgot about the lens research and got caught up in your enthusiasm and excitement chasing the moon. Keep up the great work
I have had this lense for a few years but have shot probably 20 images. You've inspired me to go out tonight and shoot the night sky. Crescent moon, Saturn, whatever is out there!
Funny vid, loved it! I just got ine of these Sigmas for my RP. First night, took a handheld shot of the moon, cropped it and stuck it on IG. Got some great feedback for a simple shot. Looking forward to some cold nights this winter with it...
I can’t fathom what’s necessary to be able to work out how these coincidences occur, but what a result! My Memorial Edition of the book arrived and I’m stunned, thanks for all you did Alyn, will absolutely be missed I’m sure.
Sublime footage on the importance of planning and... good gear :). Just bought the Sigma 150-600C and I'm using it on a Canon EOS90D. And got some awesome moon shots with it, some of them in cooperation with the 1401 TC at 840mm. Looking forward to using it for bird and/or wildlife photography as well...
Men! you are such an inspiration! I need that passion to go outside with my camera and shoot the stars! Actually, by watching your work I started to take pictures of the milky way. Thank you!
Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd Thanks a lot guys, glad the suspense transpires through the vlog. Gunna give myself a heart attack one of these days! Looking forward to some future adventures with the Moon Bazooka :D
Amazing. Wonderful work Alyn. I am a MOON imager and I have been capturing full moons since Nov 2016 so I can understand your feeling of moon covered in clouds and then suddenly cleared out of clouds. It happens with me a lot. I had to drop some official visits just to take a picture of full moon to not break the streak 🙂
Watched the Sigma 14 mm f1.8 video and thought, let me check out another video. Was sold on this when I saw the moon rise...............and then you talk about shooting the Space station cross the moon?! I'm so in! Looking forward to the next videos!!!
Haha thanks a lot Paul glad you enjoyed the content on my channel. Will have a lot more time to dedicate to TH-cam in 2018 so I hope you enjoy the ride, thanks for the sub!
Came across this video looking for the Sigma lens (otherwise known as the moon bazooka). Your enthusiasm and the details make this one of my favorites! Thanks.
Hahaaa - I know the feel for the ISS - been there done that... missed it a few times because of heavy clouds... so i totally get the driving, the waiting, the internet clock timing... and then bham frigg'in clouds... lol - but i did get it once and was very happy with it... I videod it though as I feared i might miss in the bursts... but my next attempt at photographing it had clouds... gonna keep trying! Awesome vid!
Fantastic! But could I ask how on earth you know the moon will rise behind a certain thing at a certain time? Superb, loved the tower suspense... awesome, thank you
Most awesome video I saw on astro photography. U captured the process behind photography, which is equally painful and exciting as the photography itself. 👌👌
Seriously incredible work, you deserve a tonne more subs. I just stumbled across your channel last night and I'm really loving your videos. Keep it up Alyn!
My kids and I love your inspirational videos. We are just starting out in astrophotography...you’ve taught us so much...if you ever get to the USA PA you can stay at our farm...dark skies area too,.
This is bloody great! Accurately shows the blind panic, swearing and mad dashing i feel when trying it, except with results 😂 the cloud moving just in time for the tower shot is 👌
Kirk Paton haha trying to edit the vlog to not have swearing was difficult then realised I should definitely have kept some in! Yeah couldn't believe how perfect that went, clouded over just after it had set too!
Hi Alyn, congratulations on this amazing shot! I would be very proud of myself if I could achieve this. I just got the 100-400 with 1.4x and on my R3 that is about 840mm cropped APS-C. Should I just find an ISS tracking site and see when it’s in the moon path for my geographic area? Any specific tips for that part? Thank you for inspirational work!
Nice !!! Alyn Wallace, Whats the maximum distance between you and your subject that you can reach using Sigma 150-600mm ? I have a plan to use about 6,4 km from me and my subject, Is that too far ? Tks so much!
Alyn. Fabulous video. I have bought a Sigma 150-600mm Moon Bazooka on the strength of this video. One question though. It's easy to work out when the full moon is, and fairly easy to know where the Space Station is but how did you work out when exactly the space station was going to cross the face of the moon ? You had it down to the exact second. Can you tell us which app/program you used for the Moon Space Station alignment please. Ta.
I think it's one of the first video of yours that I watched. It inspired me so much. Rest in Peace, Alyn. Thank you for all.

2:09 _"in typical fashion, there's not a single cloud in the entire sky, except for [where you're shooting]"_
Yep, this happens SOOOOOOOOOO often!
There is always a cloud with your name on it.
i love how much you enjoyed seeing the ISS on your images!

Thanks Andrew. Something I've wanted to do for ages, couldn't believe Wales was cloud free for it!

Great stuff. I have one of these lenses that I bought for air show photography. Shooting the moon never occurred to me. Inspired.
Absolutely fantastic work, well done Alyn. I stumbled on this while researching which 150-600 superzoom to invest in. I completely forgot about the lens research and got caught up in your enthusiasm and excitement chasing the moon. Keep up the great work
