That was an interesting plot device that the "Smallville" writers came up with, and I loved it. The idea that Jor-El built a gateway in the Zone, and it could only be activated by his family's blood, was genius writing.
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf for the last weeks :)
Zod was only trying to protect his friend and did believe him about Krypton become unstable but unfortunately Zod turned evil. I fully believe if Zod was good he would be an excellent teacher and mentor to Kal-El if he found him on Earth
If Zod’s blood had been taken in Kandor his clone may have been able to redeem his name but the last thing the clone remembered was Jor El not giving his son back.
Kandor was a city on the planet Krypton; in the comics, it survived the destruction, but was eventually shrunk by Brainiac, along with its citizens. For a time, Superman kept the bottled city in the Fortress, looking for a way to restore it.
I like how at 2:47 the music from Lex killing Lionel and Clark confronting him about it starts up foreshadowing the coming end of Jor-El and Zod's friendship.
it's a common archetype, the traitor who was close to you: Satan was a great angel, Judas was a close disciple of Jesus, Obadiah Stane was a father-figure to Tony Stark...
If Clark really wanted to save jor-el he should've dropped his blood into Joe-el's blood stream. Not only would he be resurrected he would have super powers just like Zods clone got his.
Does anybody else find something weird about Jor-El saying the earthlings will be doomed if the Kryptonians are sent there? Also in the original Superman movies (which are largely respected even in the comics, if not canon), it was firmly established that Krypton had no death penalty, and not because of the Phantom Zone. That was said in both the Donner and Lester cuts.
There is no death penalty *because* of the Phantom Zone. Jor-El is the one that discovered it, and the council put it to use in place of the death penalty. Chances are this was before the time that Jor-El discovered it, and they started using it.
mostly because people just assumed it was just soap opera drama(which a lot of superman comics had) and it deviated from comic(honestly Smallville was very faithful, taking elements from different comics and no less faithful than any other superhero adaption) and the fact that this show lasted 10 years and people really wanted to see Clark fly in the Superman costume.
True that there is irony here with Jor-EL saying that Kryptonians would destroy Earth. The reason why Jor-El was comfortable sending Kal-EL to Earth was because he had safeguards in place. First, it was planned for him to be raised by the Kents and to have a compassionate upbringing, Second, Jor-El irradiated the Orb with blue Krpytonite to take away his powers should he ever decide to go bad, The Kandorians on the other hand are Military and would see it as easy to conquer Earth.
I never saw the Kryptonians as truly superior; they just thought they were. They still had the same egos and prejudices as humans, as evidenced by the entire Council denying Jor-El's disaster predictions. Their reliance on monumental technology made it easier to reject their concerns for others.
Rogol Zaar was created by Jor-El and was responsible for destroying Krypton along with Empress Gandelo of the Trilium Collective.Decades later, he invaded the Fortress of Solitude and destroyed Kandor. Following a series of battles with Superman and Supergirl, the Girl of Steel used a Phantom Zone Projector to send Zaar to the Phantom Zone.
I think they mess up with the actor age since the flashback takes place around the mid to late 60's but in season 3 Jor-el came to earth in 1961 and looked like he just got out of high school. This Jor-el looks like he could have an adult kid. Kind of feel they picked an older actor so Clark could have the father feeling. Would have been hard if his father looked as young as him. Another option would have been have the actor be Jor-el father. Him going to the fortress would be interesting.
Wait, hold on a second! I thought there was no death penalty on Krypton, but eternal banishment to the Phantom Zone. That was what we learned from Lara's hologram in the Lester cut of Superman 2, and it was brought up again in 2013's Man of Steel.
Smallville had a habit of retconning canonical events even in the series itself. Look at the Chloe & her mother parting of ways when she was a child they changed it twice & her age changed when her mother left in just one episode lol
Jor El built the phantom zone, so krypton's worse criminals could have some kind of life. i suppose the reason why the council couldn't send him there was because he could escape since the only people who could get in or out is the House of El.
No , Terrence Stamp who played General Zod in Superman II plays the Voice of the Jor-El AI in the Fortress of Solitude and Archive Footage from that Film was used for the disembodied Phantom Zod after being exorcized from Lex . Michael Rosenbaum played Phantom Zod possessing Lex and Callum Blue played the Cloned Major Zod who was later self-promoted to General , sent to the Phantom Zone by Clark , possessed by Phantom Zod & made a deal with Darkseid for power , thus becoming pure evil !
@TheShockMaster Lana has left the show so much of the drama that was around in earlier seasons is gone. Are they focusing more on Superman? They have been greatly exploring Clark's Kryptonian heritage since season 6-7. Also he he adopted a secret identiy using the "S" shield known as "The Blur" since he runs and can't fly yet. Lois knows Clark's secret and they are a couple so it's like classic 90's Lois & Clark sort of. It's the final season so it won't be long until he becomes Superman.
Does anyone know what that soundtrack is? I can't seem to find out anywhere. (They used in the Lex and Clark argument scene in Descent: S7 EP 16). Usually that leaves a trace.
Well that is a different take on the Superman/Krypton mythos. I'm watching some videos because I need some escapism and Superman has been a favorite for decades.
@ryananderson280195 That's not really a good way of approaching his character as intergalactic travelers such as Jor El shouldn't have insecurities, mainly because aliens would have evolved into a higher consciousness therefore being more than three dimensional being, saying that Jor El is 3 dimensional is in itself disrespectful not to mention wrong.
I respect your opinion, however I am willing to watch the portrayals of other actors who can play Jor-El. Sure nothing of them can come close to Marlon Brando's spectacular performance but I like to see other versions of Jor-El.
Watch 2013's Man of Steel; Russel Crowe does a pretty good job as Jor-El. I defnitely like his portrayal better than Brando's. In the Donner cut of Superman 2, I didn't care for the scene where Jor-El was borderline harsh on Kal just for wanting one thing for himself, nor did I like the way his hologram gave Lois one hell of a side eye while Kal was being restructured and depowered.
I think most of those shows are probably staged. If they aren't, then I feel sorry for guys like Geraldo, Donahue, or Jerry, who have to put up with it.
No, you pervert. Zod's soldiers had their blood extracted by medical staff in one episode, and these samples were placed in the Orb. Later, Jor-El deliberately exposed them to Blue Kryptonite, so the clones wouldn't develop powers under a yellow sun and destroy humans.
Rest in peace, Julian Sands aka Jor-El (1958 - 2023)
Rest in peace Sands he played a scientist, one I aspire to be
That was an interesting plot device that the "Smallville" writers came up with, and I loved it. The idea that Jor-El built a gateway in the Zone, and it could only be activated by his family's blood, was genius writing.
Rest in Peace, Julian Sands... rest in peace 😢
When the actor playing Zod says " I demand to be heard!" it really sounds like Terence Stamp.
Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf for the last weeks :)
@Houston Brysen definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D

RIP Julian Sands

Zod is such a badass in smallville. The movie Zods pale in comparison. This guy has such charisma.
Callum Blue is great in everything I've seen him in
Kandor was a city on the planet Krypton; in the comics, it survived the destruction, but was eventually shrunk by Brainiac, along with its citizens. For a time, Superman kept the bottled city in the Fortress, looking for a way to restore it.
Even though the middle seasons of Smallville were weak, the show does finish on some high notes.
the end was
Before the possession and Darkseid deal , Major Zod had a very slim chance of redemption which makes the whole thing all the more tragic !
RIP Julian Sands (aka Jor-El)
I like how at 2:47 the music from Lex killing Lionel and Clark confronting him about it starts up foreshadowing the coming end of Jor-El and Zod's friendship.
I always wanted to know the soundtrack for that smh
@@chadzahirshah2588 Same. If you ever found out I would appreciate knowing.
it's a common archetype, the traitor who was close to you: Satan was a great angel, Judas was a close disciple of Jesus, Obadiah Stane was a father-figure to Tony Stark...
Harry Osborn was the best friend to Peter Parker
When the planet Krypton is about to explode, Jor-El had no other options. He wanted his son to live even if it meant sending him to Earth.
If Clark really wanted to save jor-el he should've dropped his blood into Joe-el's blood stream. Not only would he be resurrected he would have super powers just like Zods clone got his.
Adam Tajyar right but unfortunately he didn't know that he only did it to Zod out of a guess that it might help
The Man 316 and that's problem with smallvilles logic. They do shit for one person and not the other.
The Man 316 even a single drop of blood would prolly resurrect Jor-El and would give him kryptonian super powers
Adam Tajyar I view it as learning from mistakes and growing or changing from human error
Boom out comes KRYPTON... almost same scenario you said
Does anybody else find something weird about Jor-El saying the earthlings will be doomed if the Kryptonians are sent there?
Also in the original Superman movies (which are largely respected even in the comics, if not canon), it was firmly established that Krypton had no death penalty, and not because of the Phantom Zone. That was said in both the Donner and Lester cuts.
The show was inspired by a wide variety of sources, but the writers didn't want to be chained down by any of them.
When General Zod was honourable. :) However, you could see his dark element that would devour him.:)
"I WILL FIND HIM"
There is no death penalty *because* of the Phantom Zone. Jor-El is the one that discovered it, and the council put it to use in place of the death penalty. Chances are this was before the time that Jor-El discovered it, and they started using it.

I think the producers might have considered that approach, but Julian Sands did an excellent job.
I actually thought of a theory that God & Satan were once friends The orginal Jor EL & General Zod
Yes they were before pride was found in him and he fell onto evil. Same with mankind but Jesus made a way back
Yeah. Satan was once an angel named lucifer. Right hand man to God.
obviously satan was once one of gods most loved angels
Rest in peace, Julian Sands/Jor-El.

This scene takes place 20 years before Krypton destruction so Jor-El may not built the Phantom Zone yet.
I like those Brittish accents from both Jor-El and Zod.
I never saw the Kryptonians as truly superior; they just thought they were. They still had the same egos and prejudices as humans, as evidenced by the entire Council denying Jor-El's disaster predictions. Their reliance on monumental technology made it easier to reject their concerns for others.
smallville was amazing...i hope arrow gets about 6-8 seasons and gets better

I was under the impression that Krypton didn't have a death penalty.
Tom Sproson This is before Jor-el created/found the Phantom Zone and the Phantom Zone Projector, eliminating the need of the death penalty

Well all be damned, Brando is dead, sadly. And this is Julian Sands, respect that man.
@Superedmar2 because jor-el never told zod about his son, kalel. After this scene Zod wanted Jor-el to return the favor by saving his son but didn't.
Wait, hold on a second! I thought there was no death penalty on Krypton, but eternal banishment to the Phantom Zone. That was what we learned from Lara's hologram in the Lester cut of Superman 2, and it was brought up again in 2013's Man of Steel.

But the irony is Jor-El sent his son not knowing what kind of man, er superman, he would become.
He sent hum to Kansas because he knew the kent family
A great actor, in my personal opinion, to play Jor-El would've been either Hugh Laurie, or Martin Sheen.
The Cowboy well but Martin Sheen was pretty old even then for that to be believable I mean Jor El wouldn't have Clark for some time after this
Damn, I really want to see season nine again
@metalore
No If the Kryptonians are sent to Earth, then they'd take over the entire planet.. they have super-powers, whereas the humans don't.
If that was true General Zod and his followers wouldn't be evil.
@juliohedz5 what are you talking about?!??? Great casting

Wow, Jor-El is like a liberal in Kryptonian politics.
0:36 mk reference elder gods and raiden
Well, that wasn't the same guy. Glenn Quinn (Doyle from "Angel") passed away from drugs in 2002. Zod was portrayed by Callum Blue.
What is this? This was randomly recommended to me. Zod was a good guy? Is this Superman?
If Kryptonian elders suspected Krypton destruction, why didn't they escape? 🤔🤔
at 0:59 i thought she said "the punishment for a threesome" is death lolzz
I can't imagine Kryptonians with a "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" or "Jerry Springer Show." Can you?

Not quite , it`s a small yet well-populated city on Krypton !
they were more than friends they were brothers
wow Jor-El way to repay a debt.
holy crap is Mason playing Zod
Yes, but those events took place 28 years before Clark was sent to Earth. Jor-El could've been in his mid-50s, by the time of Krypton's destruction.
@NatDuv121 Thanks for the clarification. I was completely confused. lol
Yeah only Terence Stamp can be Zod
Smallville Season 9 Ep Kandor
a lot to be learned in movies,, I'm tellin ya
Well this is a show
Ironic, Zod's arrogance saved Jor-El
they definitely borrowed with alls well to pay back.

death penelty? it was stated in superman2 that krypton had not death penalty and the worst punishment was the phantom zone
Mythology has some great stories.
But you are not a Kryptonian, who are supposed to be morally superior.
So the real flesh and blood Jor-El and A.I. Jor- El are 2 different people... Clark was talking to a fake all the time.
All I see is Doyle! =P

They should have gotten Russel Crowe to play Jor-El
no
Russell Crowe was a badass Jor-El no doubt.
+toscodav Russell crowe as jor .el is much actor for this tv series
Yes
Episode? Season?
Season 9 Episode 7 Kandor
Wait, the Doci is Jor El? I'm so confused...
Not many will understand that one mate...

Was this from the Smallville Series?
Yeah I've watched loads of times
I don't like when writers try to re-write the established cannon.
That's the Multiverse for you. Got to love the Multiverse
Are Kandor Krypton?
Man oh man are they bipolar they were just about to kill him then they said he was there greatest heroes
Marvel Universe and DC Universe are too many different storyline... As long the series look fine I'm ok with that

Why are Kryptonians english?
They spoke somewhat of English language ya know
@immortalcelsius blood.
@LaAmore94 eh.

Why wasn't Dean Cain playing Zod? O thought that would have made more sense!
