Very impressed on how interpreter can stretched out to even being a surgeon & helicopter pilots interpreter up to the point of she can confidently claims that she might fly one. Plus, to know both sides of the speakers' cultural appropriation, differences, and even literature (Confucius, poets, etc), that is very difficult! Ultimately, it takes a flexible and understanding person to be this open and viewing world in various perspectives.

On the subject of food, a lot of Malaysians have this mental imprinting from young that the best or most original foods are from where they originated from or grew up. Hence whenever they return to their hometowns, they will make a pilgrimage to their favorite food stalls and restaurants just to eat their favorite foods. Since Malaysian recipes and cooking styles are very diverse, the same food prepared by one restaurant could have its own distinctive taste and flavor, which other restaurants are unable to replicate. So this is why Malaysians will usually have their favorite nasi kandar, char kuey teow, asam laksa etc stall. You are correct in saying that distance will not discourage the average Malaysians from traveling across town or state just to get a bite of their favorite food.

I wouldn't describe Malaysia as a developing country. Malaysia is a new developed country, the GDP per capita (PPP) is about 37k and at its growing at a super healthy pace, it will probably match and surpass many European developed countries during before 2030.

@@brabaius162 Guess this is a comment for me, not for Dasha. Ok, let me explain what I mean with some examples: Objective - DiCaprio is a very good actor. Personal opinion - he's cool, but can't say I will watch every movie he has starred in, not a fan. Objective - Malaysian cuisine is vibrant and diverse. Personal opinion: I love some Malaysian food, but must admit, for me most of the dishes are too fatty or too spicy.

Madam, your profession is very interesting. I wish my younger son would take up interest in foreign languages n interpreting. If he can, be polyglot. You're right, Malaysians know at least 2 Languages, mother tongue language + Malay (if not the mother tongue lingo) + English. He now also reads Arabic & Japanese. Thus, if he can speak Malay, English, Arabic, n Japanese, that would be amazing.
