- Sohla El-Waylly is back for another mystery ingredient challenge! We give her one hour to turn a surprise ingredient into dinner and dessert. But this time is a little different, because she’s in the studio kitchen and she’s joined by her husband, Ham. Today’s secret ingredient is … coffee beans! Agreed! It would be really interesting to see them brainstorm ideas, problem solve on the spot and them explaining flavour pairings or showcasing techniques during.

Having their own channel would be a lot more work than this and they would be less financially secure that way.

Okay I've watched this 4 times and I'm still dying at Sohla being surprised that putting coffee beans in hot water would make coffee and not soft mushy refried coffee bean paste.

I know!! I saw this vid a while back and often think about how even after they made what seems like had to be bad coffee (whole beans!), they say “the water seems to have the flavor now”! It cracks me up they don’t even realize they just made coffee!!! In a waaaay more complicated way!

I love how they're unafraid to just try something. Coffee Crusted Pineapple? Inspired! Pressure Cooked Coffee Beans? They just found a roundabout way to brew some coffee XD
You know when you see a couple dance and the chemistry is clear to see? Well this two their dance is their cooking 😍😍😍

It took awhile to figure out that involving Ham would make this this a better series but it's finally here. Pacing, dialogue, dynamics, completion, and scale are all improved.
Ham and Sohla cooking together is a show I want to watch every week and a restaurant I want to go to

I love seeing these two work together, here and on their other social media. They complement each other so well. But, NYT Cooking, don’t forget to credit Ham as also being a professional chef! Insofar as Sohla is not just his wife, he is not just her husband. They are partners in life and the kitchen.

I love seeing more videos of Sohla and Ham together because they just make perfect sense as a couple. Both wildly creative and knowledgeable and talented but also easy-going and calm and comedic.. they make such a great team, culinary and otherwise!
The reason the coffee beans didn't cook is because coffee isn't actually a bean, it's a seed! It's the pit of the cascara cherry
they're so smart about food i think if they were coffee drinkers they probably would have known that. this was a good ingredient to challenge them
They're basically engineered to not hold water at all. Otherwise we'd have to squeeze our coffee grounds to get our coffee in the morning.
“If we do this together we can do anything.” Pretty much sums up every healthy marriage I’ve ever seen. :)

What a normal southern person would do for reference to their insane genius choices: fine ground coffee mixed with other spices for a dry rub on steak and veggies, red eye gravy (that has coffee in it) on biscuits, and the chocolate and coffee Texas sheet cake

Wow I’ve never watched cooking shows before - I’ve definitely seen or rather suffered through few minutes of a cooking show but never enjoyed it like this. I AM HOOKED.
