  • Highly recommend you to get the Dji Mavic filmic grading LUTs I use at SpectrumGrades...
    TIPs: The SpectrumGrades Film Emulation LUTs are the most powerful set of tools designed for the Mavic 1 and 2 series. The looks, unlike most other LUTs, are sophisticated and stylish, which is a major factor for excellent grades. This is because they are designed by post-production and VFX experts.
    All you do is apply the look you like and all the advanced grading is done for you with results that are truly excellent.
    Just make sure you keep exposure balanced when filming. If you find you are over or underexposed, then just adjust your shot with exposure controls before the LUT is applied. If you like you can tweak the look to your specific liking.
    It's worth getting them as they do make an amazing improvement to your footage
    I use them on all my videos and you can see the results that you can achieve...
    The Ultimate cinematic film look from the Dji Mavic Pro / platinum. It is possible to get Epic Cinematic Footage That Rivals Inspire X5 And Phantom 4 Pro from this amazing drone. Ask questions and I will be happy to answer...
    Mavic settings:
    2.7K 25P
    Dlog
    +1 Sharpness
    -3 Contrast
    0 Saturation

    Beautiful video! I just recently got a Mavic and most of this video stuff is new to me, especially color grading, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

      Thats why this is here so you can learn about grading. A lot of people with Mavics struggle with their footage and need help. Just follow the discussions here to learn. What editing program do you use?

    +BlueHouseFX Hands down some of the best drone shots I've seen on all of TH-cam. And to come from a Mavic? I need to get my footage like this! I've been reading through your comments on several videos. I use the same settings, but I am wondering why sometimes you fly on -3 saturation and sometimes at 0? What determines that? I'll try the 2.7k resolution over the 4k if you think it is sharper. I did not think low light shots like this were even possible, i'll have to look into the neat video noise reduction plugin you used. Do you ever trust 1600 ISO for low light? Or is that pushing it too far for the noise reduction plugin? I've heard mixed things. I like the tutorial idea, you should go for it. I'm checking out your LUT pack after this. Love your work, subscribed, keep it up.

    I have used the DJI Mavic as a normal film camera, as a substitute for gimbals, dollies & cranes. But the picture quality was bad! OK, I try to make the next Demo-Film with your Mavic-Settings. I hope your LUTs can improve the quality. Or do you have another tip to get the Quality better?

    Did you film in 1080p 60fps and slowed the footage down? The look like they where in slow motion sometimes. But the video says 1440p if you shot them in 1080p did you upscale them later to match the uhd footage?

    EPIC FOOTAGE!! Just got a Mavic and battling with results...lots of noise in 4K @ settings when delivered...tried D-Log 0, -1,-1 but footage had all sorts of creeping grass and leaves and flares and flickering at certain angles to the sun....any help besides the settings you mention above...eg NTSC/PAL...anti-flicker..etc

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. So you setup your Mavic as per the description at 25P?
      film at 2.7k not 4k. far less flicker in my opinion :)

      Just watched a video of yours on your channel. For the most part your are doing great. You just need to keep an eye on not ever exposing your shot. You always want to maintain highlights

  • @ManForToday
    @ManForToday 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow man, I've been annoyed the past month or so with this problem of noise and compression. I always used 4k 30fps and -3 on all styles and was confused why my drone footage looked so awful. I thought it was my export settings in Premiere Pro. Cant wait to try this out.
    I'm going to Greece soon for summer holiday, will 95% of the time be using the drone anytime in between sunrise to sunset.
    When doing a pan up reveal shot though, is it useful to have manual exposure? Since the exposure required for (e.g. ocean) will be different to exposure required (for e.g. the sunset or the beach front). Can you still use manual settings and use Auto-Exposure? What would you recommend for shots like that where the drone is moving into different compositions with noticeable variations in light?

    Nice! :-) Reason why youre not filming 4k?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question which has been asked many times. 4K has severe compression blocking/flicker compared to 2.7k which is due to the better compression ratio in 2.7k. The difference is so much better in 2.7k. Also picture information is slightly better in 2.7k. If you pixel peep both formats, you will see more information in 2.7k without the sever flicker and blocking issues. The blocking issue in 4k is is very noticeable in high detail scenes and low contrast scenarios like water. When upscaling you can then get a better image that’s even more detailed than native 4K. Hope this helps :)

    • @hallvardsmestad5762
      @hallvardsmestad5762 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that is why I think the quality in 2.7 is better! Then I`ll only film in 2.7 from now. Thank you for the info! :-)

    Great video and photography.
    That said, the P4 Pro technically shoots better video (capturing more detail at 100 Mb/s).

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is definitely true and would also say it has better dynamic range etc. Only if the Mavic had the P4P camera. I definitely think they should offer a modular camera system for the mavic in V2 so both hobbyists and Pros can benefit from the amazing portability and size of the Mavic. Have you got a Mavic?

    • @Codename73
      @Codename73 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BlueHouseFX I do - I love my Mavic! ;) - what I will say is that for what the camera is, it's really incredible. It really does look incredible. It can also just go places the P4P can't. I think the Mavic 2 will close the gap and probably top the P4P, until the P5P comes out, LOL.

    • @brechtxt8096

      Not sure but I would say don't expect a Mavic Pro 2 until 2018. You won't put your hands on one this year.

    Is the mavic pro camera better than or at least as good as the P3P camera. Is it as good as the P4 (not pro) camera. As far as low light/night shooting, and also general shooting in all conditions

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah from what I have seen online, its better than the P3 in every way and yes is similar to the P4. I would say the low light capability is limited and really need to film cleverly to get a sharp noise free shot. So essentially one has to film just after sunset while there is still some light illuminating the environment and then color correct your a exposure a bit to darker. Does this help and which drone do you have?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sam, congrats for when you get your "bird" as they say. Yes as for music youtube is actually pretty lenient when it comes to using copyright music. Its usually completely fine however the only drawback is that certain music might restrict certain regions for your video to be played and the music artist gets the advertising revenue from youtube. Its a completely normal practice within the youtube community. Try out some tracks you like and see how youtube adresses each song as each artist puts forward their own requirements for monetization. Some even split the revenue. The big artists will have more strict set of rules. It all depends really. Does this help?

    • @shawn3d

      +Earth By Drone you can use copyright music legitimately. You just can't monetize videos :) totally legit

    • @EarthwithTom

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I use copyrighted music, youtube flags it however it doesn't add a black mark to your profile. You dont need to worry about anything as all. Just check which countries the copyright will restrict to, so maybe youtube might not allow the video to play in certain countries

      ProCinematicFX No, I havn't a Mavic. I'm not finally sure which is the better drone to fullfil my needs. Mavic or P4P? I'm also waiting whether the price will becomes lower a bit for the P4P.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christian Kuhley the P4P most certainly does have a better camera than the Mavic by a long way however if you are familiar with image correction and like the portability, then the Mavic is great. In your situation I would trial both to see which one you like. Maybe work with sponsored footage like I do to get an idea of works best for you 👌

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      305kubrick Hey Buddy, thanks for the awesome compliments. The Stratus pack was used. I would get the combo packs as there great variations to choose from. Every situation and film is different. So it’s nice to have those options

    • @305kubrick
      @305kubrick 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Another quick question - are the luts built around footage that were shot with polarizer/nd combos or with just regular ND?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      305kubrick they work equally as well on both standard camera and with Nd/pl filters. So either way if you use them then you’re all good. The presets allow for differences in shots by maintaining a low contrast and saturation approach as to maintain picture information for these kind of situations. So all you need to do is adjust the basic parameters to you personal preference and style 👍 Does this make sense?

  • @jcradford1
    @jcradford1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree, beautiful footage. However, its all about the subject. High contrast tells a different story. Consider the crane shot starting about 1:20. ... I see edge artifacts on my Air 2. Not to beat on that, its good video for clients. But I wonder how it would compare head to head with say the P3P? Totally different camera.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jim Radford Hey Jim, well spotted. Yes there are a bit of compression artifacts in the cranes shot however it's still very acceptable. Natively the Mavic camera isn't as good as the P4P. With some good grading and setup etc the Mavic can get very impressive footage. As for the P3P...hmmm good question which will be interesting to do a native comparison. Do you have a p3p?

    • @jcradford1
      @jcradford1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya BH, I have both. As soon as the crap weather improves in MSP I'll put them to the test. Tempted to sell off the P3P, but ... you got me second-guessing. Thx.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jim Radford hope the weather improves. Yeah I would definitely sell the P3 and get the Mavic. Everyone prefers the Mavic hands down. I think the combo of Mavic and P4P is brilliant

    Which drone is better to do professional videos dji mavic or phanthom 4?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Roseane silva good question and it's really a subjective opinion on this. I would choose the Mavic purely for its ease of use and portability. In saying this if you want to really use a drone for professional use, then rather go with the phantom 4 pro as the Mavic does need processing to get it to look great. If you are limited with budget and have to make do with what you have, then I would say the Mavic

    I shoot in CineLike, are you going to release any LUTs for that? I'd shoot LOG but I dont have neat video

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sam, thanks so much for the awesome message and pleased you read through the comments. Hopefully you get to pick up on some great tips. The CineLike profile will work with the LUTs. You just need to film as flat as possible with the Mavic if you are on CineLike to get the most dynamic range possible. My suggestion is film with D-Log as the noise profile is the same as cinelike. The reason why there appears to be less noise is due to the contrast covering it up in CineLike. If you are struggling with noise in general, then 0 sharpness may be an option for normal lighting scenarios where there isnt any low light or too dark areas that muddy the shoot. With the LUT in post you may need to push up your saturation a bit more than the d-log and contrast adjustments etc will be slightly different. Will be great to see what your footage looks like. Do keep me posted on your films :)

    Footage looks outstanding as you clearly know what you're doing with the shots, and more importantly the grade. As a Mavic user and also Inspire 2 user, I will say that the quality on the Mavic is nowhere near the quality on the X5s Inspire 2 as a whole when actually compared side by side. BUT, for the price and portability of the Mavic, the quality you can get, and what you're showing is stunning. Great work.

      2Rad Pilot DE yes that is true. For a few reasons... 2.7k is easier to work with and it actually has better detail than 4k. The 4k on paper has a better compression ratio but when comparing footage side by side the 2.7k has more detail/picture information especially on low contrast areas

    • @shawn3d

      Yes I see your noise. That is very unusual noise and far more than what is normally there at iso 100-200. Lets switch your camera mode from pal to NTSC and back to pal. Then switch your sharpness to 0 and back to +1. This switching resets the camera and has known to cause over sharpness. You dont need to take the drone out to fly to test if this works. Just test it while on the ground. Also do a recording just before you do this hopefully fix and then you can compare. Also I want to make sure you are filming in pal and 25p at 2.5k resolution. Let me know buddy...

    What about ND filters shutter speed and ISO settings? I'd venture a guess that 25fps calls for 1/50 shutter, then ISO for what looks best (lower = less grain) and ND filter to help in bright situations?
