  • Highly recommend you to get the Dji Mavic filmic grading LUTs I use at SpectrumGrades...
    TIPs: The SpectrumGrades Film Emulation LUTs are the most powerful set of tools designed for the Mavic 1 and 2 series. The looks, unlike most other LUTs, are sophisticated and stylish, which is a major factor for excellent grades. This is because they are designed by post-production and VFX experts.
    All you do is apply the look you like and all the advanced grading is done for you with results that are truly excellent.
    Just make sure you keep exposure balanced when filming. If you find you are over or underexposed, then just adjust your shot with exposure controls before the LUT is applied. If you like you can tweak the look to your specific liking.
    It's worth getting them as they do make an amazing improvement to your footage
    I use them on all my videos and you can see the results that you can achieve...
    A before and after test example of refined Dji Mavic Pro Professional Polished Cinematic D-Log Footage. D-log profile is the best profile to use for dynamic range purposes, This helps a lot when grading / color correcting, I then denoised, added motion blur, propeller lens shadow cleanup.
    Mavic settings:
    2.7K 25P
    Dlog
    +1 Sharpness
    -3 Contrast
    -3 Saturation
    Grading preset by SpectrumGrades
    Watch an EPIC film with high quality professional production ready cinematography...

      Showing your grading process would be amazing. Pretty much everything you list in the description :) "Graded, denoised, added motion blur, propeller lens shadow cleanup".
      Also, were you flying "live" while doing this, or did you set a path with another app? (ie. Litchi) The flying seems perfectly smooth. I struggle with that part greatly.

    • @whip_it
      @whip_it 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mostly the drone initial settings, then the main steps on what you did in post - (Graded, denoised, added motion blur, propeller lens shadow cleanup). Would be sweet. Cheers!

    hey your mavic footage is the best I've seen! great job! i subbed to you and I am delighted for upcoming videos!
    so you did just film 2.7k? you didn't up- or downscaled or anything like that?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +the_unknown_culprit thank you so much for the grading compliment. I always film in 2.7k. From that point I sometimes upscale with a plugin called "instant hd". This is the best upscaling method which I have found. Although upscaling isn't really necessary from 2.7k. Does this help?

    Great stuff. A lot of people are bagging on the Mavic for it's footage quality, but you prove it can be done. Do you have some sort of a blog/vid about your workflow? I'm specifically curious as to how you denoised the footage. I think that's my biggest hangup right now. Edit: Ahhhh in your low light video you're using Neat.... Gotcha. Is Neat worth the price in your opinion?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say regardless of trying to match in camera, rather get as much dynamic range from all your cameras so there is flexibility in post to match. So always choose the profile on on cameras that have the most dynamic range :)

      JAMES FERNANDEZ Hey JAMES, not with iMovie however you can download Davinci 14 free beta version. It's a really brilliant program and used in big film studios. You can use them in there and if you have Final Cut Pro, premiere or most other major editing programs they will work in them too. Does this help? :)

    sometimes i just watch this to keep myself from wasting 2000 bucks on the new mavic 3. i hardly use my mavic pro and am yet able to produce colors like this so until then I don't have any business buying a new drone.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re a light hobbyist you don’t need another drone. Yes you can get great images from it. I will say that the Mavic 3 is insane with how good the footage is. I would definitely recommend it if it were someone who likes pushing their footage to its limits

    • @shawn3d

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cccp69com good question, it's just a matter of cost in my opinion as the more higher end cameras can natively film with amazing images. Also it's probably weight which doesn't allow for big sensors on the small drone

  • @BushidoPhoto

    Loved the video! Sorry for the noob question, why not record in 4K instead of 2.7K? Advantages, or some other reason. I'm shooting in 4K. Also, SpectrumGrades recommends 0 to +1 sharpness, -3 Contrast and 0 saturation. Are your settings applicable to the latest SpectrumGrades LUTs? Thanks.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bushido, thats a good question and have discussed this matter quite a bit. The reason is that the compression ratio on the 2.7k is better than 4K with the Mavic. There is less compression blocking in 2.7k which allows for better grading. The difference is small however if you want the most out of your footage then film in 2.7k and the mentioned settings in the description. These settings are perfect for the SpectrumGrades presets LUTs. So when you apply the presets luts you just do a few minor adjustments to get the look you like that suites your style. Which packs have you got or getting?

      Neat video denoiser. Has a remove artifacts feature and it must be on temporal reduction. It wont remove completely but definitely helped a lot here. Rather just get a nd16/pl filter and you wont have that problem. Keep in mind that filer is for normal daylight and not lo light filming

    • @gnosticsphere
      @gnosticsphere 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Gilad, I believe many people choose 2.7k due to bit rate recording. 4k is restricted to a lower bit rate, so the imagery may not be as retained in this sense.

    Inspirational footage, however I'm a bit surprised you don't seem to mind the very obvious banding in the sky (common issue with D-log, have run into it myself after just a single try with it and for that reason alone will never be using it again for anything with blue sky). It's even visible in the ungraded footage, but perhaps I'm particularly sensitive to it ;)

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael DK yeah I agree banding can sometimes be an issue although I don't think it's restricted to Dlog only. Sometimes skies a clear of banding depending on the shot. For the most part one can fix it in post if need be. For this example I didn't feel it was enough to go into deep compositing and grading. TH-cam compression also enhances banding. If you take a look at the morning city video I posted there is no banding with Dlog(maybe slightly due to TH-cam compression but the original is virtually 100%)

    • @whip_it
      @whip_it 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's interesting, i didn't even notice it, i guess when the rest of the footage is so perfectly graded banding becomes super subtle

    • @shawn3d

      +Fahad Qureshi yeah the banding is there but it's relatively unnoticeable. Some grades can really enhance or reduce banding

    Did you used only Davinci Resolve for movie or only for color grading and for rest another software (FCPX / ADOBE PREMIERE)?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can edit in premiere and also in davinci resolve. it really doesnt matter which editing prog you use as the edit cuts result will be the same. The grading in Davinci. Hope this helps :)

    • @CARdiologyTV
      @CARdiologyTV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. I can make cuts in any software, but grading is More dificult to do it right.

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Davinci is actually really easy however its a mindset which is the hurdle people have to jump over. Great grading results can be done in premiere and final cut that I would be happy with. Naturally there is more control in Davinci but if you are on your preferred software, they all have decent grading capabilities to get you started. Premieres grading is really good for a none specialized grading system. Whats your prefered software?

    • @CARdiologyTV
      @CARdiologyTV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a fan of FCPX (simplicity, speed), but color grading in FCPX is to simple (or my skills are to low), so i'm considering Davinci as a grading/finishing tool. Do you thing that i should try to do that in AP?

    how?

  • @stanrytan4384
    @stanrytan4384 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, just checking I assumed you used the Dlog setting so you could edit the video on desktop to make the video Cinematic. But does the ND or the Polarise filter make the video cinematic even before doing any editing?
    my 2nd question is, can i use the ND and Dlog setting at the same time and enhanced it using dekstop video editor?

    • @shawn3d
      @shawn3d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Stanry, hope you doing great. Yes D-Log is best to use for filming and post work. As for using filters... they dont make your films cinematic, however they add some characteristics to your footage such as motion blur. The polarizers do help with dynamic range by pulling the sky and reflections down a bit(theres more to them than just this). Where the biggest affect on getting the cinematic look happens is in post production with color grading. If you didnt have filters the cinematic look is achieved through good use of color. This cannot be achieved by filters alone. If you have filters then definitely use them when suitable. So yes, focus on color as a main priority to get the filmic look :)

      @stanrytan4384 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
