We love the Mavic Pro struggles a bit in 25 Knots+ winds. (cant come back home you have to go to the drone) fly's back at 5 knots and sometimes not all all, you must go fetch ;-) its a bit scary. th-cam.com/video/eD4c3Eu8Bvs/w-d-xo.html
I quit filmmaking for two years because my university and career influenced me to give up that passion. For two years, I felt creatively drained. You have inspired me to get back into filmmaking. I just released a video about my experience and why pursuing creativity is so important. Thank you Peter!
Oh boy!! This gets the most exciting drone video of the day award, for me at least. I know it helps to have great subject material, like Iceland, but I also know, having shot video for long enough, that "it ain't just the scenery" that makes it look cinematic. Your friend Matt is a terrific shooter. I'm gonna study his shots later, to see if I can't learn a bunch from him. He's extremely creative and smooth. I'm also happy that you put together a very informative video here, that is well done, and that you used your good friend's footage to show some of the ideas you're talking about. Very thoughtful and creative. I'll certainly check out more of both of you on TH-cam in the future. Marc Trainor
the drone shots over on travel feels are indeed some of the best I've ever seen.... Huge props. I gain so much of my knowledge on film making fro your's and Matty's channel. thanks a ton.
Damnit, I wanna go fly my lil DJI Spark now. Finding the time and locations for great drone footage is an art in itself. So many places are off limits or restricted!
Alexander Haugbjørg “Most definitely. The 2.7k HD recording/1080p HD with the Return Home feature makes this thing an advanced flying robot. I have lost connection with my drone so many times (especially flying it over a mile away) and when it does, it links up to the satellites and finds the way back home every time. You can see how I was able to fly long distances on my TH-cam channel. “
Peter McKinnon, Matti Hapooja, Lost LeBlanc, Sam Kolder, Erik Haddenfalk, MrBrynn North, Just Kay, Jr. Alli. You are my inspiration. I learn a lot from you all. Thanks thanks a lot.
That was most excellent Pete. It's great when you and Matti get together. Love the friendship and how you look out for each other. Keep inspiring guys. Enjoy!
I could listen to you all day and watch those drone shots forever. What happens when you don't have a subject???? That's my main problem. Great tips and thank you for sharing.
Wow!!! It's all awesome. I really like your shots. Great mixing, music and everything is in place. I hope to edit like one of this. I love flying too with Mavic Mini. I captured some places here in our town in India.
Great video Peter! What I would love to know is your technique for using music in these videos without it being too distracting. When I try to use upbeat, energetic music like you typically do in your videos, it often ends up being extremely distracting and I can't find the balance in levels for it to sound how it should, subtly in the background, while still being there. I usually just settle with monotonous ambient music and I wanna spice it up!
Daniel Schiffer Peter has already made a video about he is using music in his videos. I think it was a couple of months ago or so. Try to find that video.
I think his energy matches the feel of the music, which is a hard thing to do! Just gotta find something that suits your presenting style. Sick channel btw, new sub here.
So true! Can totally relate to the same old shots but different location... starting to be a thing for my vlog for sure. Thanks for the tips - i originally found you through TravelFeels actually. Nice to see you guys still doing vids together!
Part of me wants to be miffed that the two minute time limit is broken, but I just can't be upset that there is more PM content. I get inspired every time man! Keep up the great work!
Awesome tips!! “Santa” brought our family a DJI Mavic for xmas. So much fun to fly with kids. Drone shots are making our family films amazing. Had my first official drone crash tonight! Mental note: Don’t drink and drone! (I should’ve known that!)
Those drone shots you just previewed were absolutely incredible! Sometimes the hardest thing while editing is to decided what shots are actually worth it to get into the final video. How do you decide that? Do you any "rule" for that? Oh and finally a video again with Travel Feels - you two are an awesome team! :) Cheers!
I wish this video was posted yesterday. I did a drone project and I'm not that happy with the shots! But thanks Peter. Your advises are gonna save me in the next ones.
Peter McKinnon 🚨 At 6:42 you said “...these ND filters really help you get dynamic range” this is incorrect. ND filters slow down light allowing you to lower the shutter-speed which can give a more natural or “cinematic” motion blur, but this doesn’t add more stops of dynamic range. Having a slower shutter in bright situations also allows you to open up the iris; giving you a shallow depth of field which can look “cinematic” but again doesn’t effect dynamic-range, you need a better sensor or camera to improve that. Anyhow great videos, very fun stuff & keep up the great work! 😄👍
You can look at it this way. If you want to use 2x frame rate of the shutter. Sometimes that will lead to over exposure. With ND you can keep that latitude, in other words. More dynamic range.
just came across your video... I just ordered a drone.. like an hour ago... I am super excited.. super nervous... don't know what to expect... want those awesome shots you guys have... BUT... we will see what the reality brings... definitely will be interesting experience and this video gave me lots of points on what to expect, what I can do and such... thanks for doing this.
Obsessed with this channel and TravelFeels as well! Both of you guys go hand in hand and you give the best information! Wouldn't have half my knowledge on cinematography if it wasn't for you two! Keep it up!
Right on time man! I got a mavic pro last month and I'm finally comfortable flying the thing, so now it's time to get down to some sweet sweet drone video.
I flew my drone a while ago at the beach with my wife as the subject while walking. I thought it looks better with a subject and upon seeing this, it just confirmed it! Awesome tips peter and @travelfeels!
I subscribed to your channel in 2 min of my first view of your content, 1st coz you're cool, humble, and looks like you know what you're talking about and 2nd coz of the Maple Leaf
Peter! You are really inspiring for me!Not only your editing tutorials but also your energetic, happy, motivated style! I really appreciate you... Maryam fro Tehran,Iran :)
SWEET! We just got a DJI Phantom 4 to use on our 9-Day Ecuador road trip project! Have never flown a drone before... What's funny is that the guys who let us use it said "This thing will fly away on you... not sure why..." So we Googled "How to prevent DJI Phantom 4 Fly Away..." BOOM! #1 - Pilot error! ROFL! It shows how to set the settings to prevent that from happening! So glad you put this together, @PeterMcKinnon! This has really helped us start imagining different shots we can do on this trip! Cheers! - Brian + Erin (Texan... Canadian... Travel... Buddies...)
Awesome tips again Pete. I'm noticing a common denominator with your vlogs now........no matter how bad my mood is at the start by the end I'm smiling. Good work

I know someone who has a master in film directing and when that person uploads something to youtube the view count is very poor. TH-cam isn't about storytelling unfortunately and regrettably, I profit from it learning things, mostly camera and gimbal tests, microphone tests, listening to music and watching trailers.
Very cool looking video, nice job on the flying of the drone. Great tips and ideas! Keep up the flying, its looking great. Thank you for sharing, and have a good weekend
as a drone operator in 2019 it sounds like basic tips but I can imagine that in 2017 that was a game changing tips... So hats up Peter for this content posted in 2017
Awwwww shucks thanks man for the love! Couldn't imagine youtube without you 🙌

No one can pronounce cinematic without mentioning your name. cineMATTIc!
Matti Haapoja q
Something that hits me, your old videos is like far far far better, they feel so much more alive and full of joy. Take that mode back Pete!
I am totally a sight see-er drone operator! Time to level up. Thanks Matti and Peter! :D
I quit filmmaking for two years because my university and career influenced me to give up that passion. For two years, I felt creatively drained.
You have inspired me to get back into filmmaking. I just released a video about my experience and why pursuing creativity is so important.
Thank you Peter!
You posted this the day before my Hawaii trip. THANK YOU!
Excellent advice. Well done!
man how good would it be to have a Peter McKinnon plugging your channel every week.
It's always cool to see someone who's been to another country, it's good to expand your horizons.
3:59 is probably one of the best drone shots i've seen
Balls. Same😱🙌🏼
Search on YT : Kold drone shots, thank me later.
For me, the best shots at here 4:17.

Now I'm a drone expert without a drone. Might sell a kidney...
Ben Thunder save up for it man. I’m 16 and I worked for about a year and bought one. Definitely a fun tool to have. Just make sure you use it enough.
Ben Thunder kidney should only be used for one thing
Buy iPhone Xpensive
hahahaha not a bad idea
😂💦😂💦😂💦
Autel just teased their new drone at CES. I bought their last drone. Compared to the DJI 3 so it's not fantastic, but for $600, it was fun.
the drone shots over on travel feels are indeed some of the best I've ever seen.... Huge props. I gain so much of my knowledge on film making fro your's and Matty's channel. thanks a ton.
And just when I thought this Tuesday Sucked. Here Comes Pete with a Two Minute Tuesday. Thanks Pete!
Tyler Neely Yes! he just made the day
Tyler Neely makes it better that it’s over 2 minutes
That's some great footage you have Peter! Always a pleasure to watch!

The Peter McKinnon Power, Love it.
That was most excellent Pete. It's great when you and Matti get together. Love the friendship and how you look out for each other. Keep inspiring guys. Enjoy!
Amazing shots, thanks for the tips! Summary:
Plan your flight
Take a variety of shots
Have a subject
Show scale
Use ND filters for dynamic range

I absolutely love your vlogs... not only are they very informative.... but the way you present.... your goofiness makes them absolute fun to watch....
Step one: get a drone.

He's just awesome 💯
Daniel Schiffer you could bring down the volume and highs in it so it had a bit more of a lounge feel.
Interesting idea! I'll give that a try!
Daniel Schiffer Peter has already made a video about he is using music in his videos. I think it was a couple of months ago or so. Try to find that video.

Just bought my Mavic Mini. ❤️ it.
Those drone shots are sick, matty's just fantastic .. and going to those amazing places and making the most of showing it off, .. fantastic.
