We love the Mavic Pro struggles a bit in 25 Knots+ winds. (cant come back home you have to go to the drone) fly's back at 5 knots and sometimes not all all, you must go fetch ;-) its a bit scary. th-cam.com/video/eD4c3Eu8Bvs/w-d-xo.html

I have lost connection with my drone so many times (especially flying it over a mile away) and when it does, it links up to the satellites and finds the way back home every time.

Great video Peter! What I would love to know is your technique for using music in these videos without it being too distracting. When I try to use upbeat, energetic music like you typically do in your videos, it often ends up being extremely distracting and I can't find the balance in levels for it to sound how it should, subtly in the background, while still being there. I usually just settle with monotonous ambient music and I wanna spice it up!

I think his energy matches the feel of the music, which is a hard thing to do! Just gotta find something that suits your presenting style. Sick channel btw, new sub here.

Right on time man! I got a mavic pro last month and I'm finally comfortable flying the thing, so now it's time to get down to some sweet sweet drone video.
Those drone shots are sick, matty's just fantastic .. and going to those amazing places and making the most of showing it off, .. fantastic.

Sometimes the hardest thing while editing is to decided what shots are actually worth it to get into the final video. How do you decide that? Do you any "rule" for that?

Thanks for this video! Great ideas on getting excellent footage from your flights. This is the type of info that makes flying a drone fun and challenging, I think you nailed it with the combination of close-ups and scale, that what really makes drones unique as a camera vehicle.

Peter McKinnon 🚨 At 6:42 you said “...these ND filters really help you get dynamic range” this is incorrect.
ND filters slow down light allowing you to lower the shutter-speed which can give a more natural or “cinematic” motion blur, but this doesn’t add more stops of dynamic range. Having a slower shutter in bright situations also allows you to open up the iris; giving you a shallow depth of field which can look “cinematic” but again doesn’t effect dynamic-range, you need a better sensor or camera to improve that.

You can look at it this way. If you want to use 2x frame rate of the shutter. Sometimes that will lead to over exposure.
With ND you can keep that latitude, in other words. More dynamic range.
Peter should have said "recover some burnouts in highlights" or sky.. everyone knows that. there is no reason to point that to Peter ;)

I'm running a DJi Spark, had it about a year now, so this video was quite informative, cheers Peter Mac.
I'm getting around 20 minutes from each battery, so i try to maximize the time i have the drone in the air with the best footage i can get.
There's still plenty i still need to learn about the drone, especially the Go 4 app which i need to learn more about.
I can deffo be accused of just powering up the drone and flying, without really thinking about what i'm going to be filming, pretty much all of the video's on my channel feature
the area where i live, in Snowdonia, North Wales, UK, which is a beautiful place for motorcycle riding (my other passion) and drone flying.
I can also be accused of having to edit out the fast, or jerky movements of the camera in post, i need to maybe use the tripod mode to get smoother footage, so i'll be concentrating on that more in future.
Love the Spark, does what i want (mostly) and i'll just do my best to try and improve on my skills at flying it and delve into the software more and try to understand how everything works.
Ok, i've had the drone for nearly a year and i can hear some of you saying i should be way ahead of the game now, with the software, etc.....but i'm 65 next month, so gimme a break guys.
Things take a bit longer to absorb as you get older but at least the drone gets me off my arse and out there getting some exercise, so it's not all bad.
Isn't it amazing how drones have impacted photography so much in such a short amount of time?

That's funny, for a filmmaker and one who talks about story being important, I don't see much evidence of narrative work. You mean video maker? You're a videographer not a filmmaker. Nice finger tattoos though. That aspect of life you seem to have a solid focus on.

I know someone who has a master in film directing and when that person uploads something to youtube the view count is very poor. TH-cam isn't about storytelling unfortunately and regrettably, I profit from it learning things, mostly camera and gimbal tests, microphone tests, listening to music and watching trailers.
