Sam, I am the Sydney Air Traffic Controller in the start of your video. Thank you for sharing my words and for putting together this video of the entire journey of this last flight. For some reason, the words I spoke on the radio that day have resonated around the world and bought a tear to many an eye. Just goes to show how iconic the Qantas747 was to many.
This is really a emotional time when you left behind your true companion( in my words of expression ) and I'm reading your words first time after watching this forever video it touched my heart so deeply really. I can just feel your emotions behind easily. Take Care my friend . God bless you !
@Mullet Man Vids i don't think so because they don't fly the same plane all the time, so was never "their" plane. and when i would fly the same worn out plane, ship, truck or car, then i would be very happy with a new one once every 5- 10 years.
@@Ryan_Archmjr242 its challenging at times but overall I enjoy the work. it's good feeling to see my work flying all over the world. Since I began my career at Boeing, I've helped build all the widebodies at some point. currently on the tanker team. =)

Having flown on that very same 747 to London in 1994 I am very sad to see it being retired to the desert. She served Australia well for many years and is a testament to the QANTAS engineers who kept her flying and the initial build quality at Boeing.
I watched this takeoff in Sydney and I cried when it disappeared from my view. The Qantas 747 served us all very . We bless the Queen of the Skies for one last takeoff and landing. Farewell to the Qantas 747 farewell
Brings tears to my eyes to see this bird retiring. I work for a jet engine manufacture and have flown on several 747’s over the years and I must say this is by far my favorite aircraft. Farewell 747 ✈️😢
The moment when everyone cried, the last Qantas 747 touch down! A big good-bye to the Qantas 747s, the queen has done its duty for years for Qantas. Now that's the type of farewell you give to the 747s! On the other hand British Airways 747s receive just nothing!
@LAdodgers41 that was the original plan, but then COVID-19 hit and BA's remaining 747-400s got purged instantly. No ceremonies, no celebrations, nothing. They're just ... Gone, becoming yet another victim of COVID-induced aviation slump This is despite the fact that BA was an avid 747 operator, up there with QF and such
You can blame that greedy POS Alan Joyce. Don't have enough money to break even but can burn tonnes of fuel to draw a kangaroo on flight radar. Airline deserves to go broke with that level of greed.
Its very odd, usually we look at planes just like “oh they take us from point a to b” but this retirement of the aircraft, you can see just how much more it is than that for everyone.

Sam, an absolute awesome tribute to the Qantas 747. So many emotions and memories. I traveled her since 2000, a total of 18 journeys and 12 of those on the Longreach. As an Australian living in the US, the red tail flying kangaroo brought a tear to my eye. The aerodynamic look of the 747, in 2022, I don't think will ever be matched for style and elegance. Thank you to all those who served her and the final trip to the desert including this other 3 planes that were top to tail is a sad day in history. Again, thank you and I'm a little more depressed and sad having watched this... BUT 10 out of 10 for an excellent tribute and a respectable finale to bid this plane and crew with an amazing send off. I Thank You.

We will. But, it's just not the same, nor will it ever be. To be really honest, this video made me cry. Yes, I cried. Why? My 1st experience on a plane period, was on a 747. JFK to SJU. Who knew 5 years later, I would become a FA for AA. I have always loved anything and everything having to do with aviation. I did however have another passion. Nursing. After a very short lived life as an FA, I chose my other passion. I have 3 friends that live in Australia. Perth. We only see each other when they come out here (LAX). I have always wanted to see Australia. The airline of my choice of course would be Qantas, and the 747. Never happened.
In the 90s and 2000s I had business in Asia was a passenger on about 140 NWA flights on 747-400 (and -200!). Always MSP/DTW - NRT, NRT - BKK and back. Spent over 1300 hours in the sky in B747 over a decade and a half. I will always have a great appreciation and fondness for this wonderful aircraft.
I love this clip. ❤ What a fitting tribute, and to be part of history forever. An indelible mark in the memory of thousands, especially the flight crew!!! Thank you for sharing your passion, their passion!! Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!!! The Spirit of Australia!
It was 1978 and a 13yo wide-eyed boy boarded his first commercial jet at Heathrow, a QF 747 bound for Melbourne via Bahrain and Perth. What an experience and it went a long way to distract from the sadness of leaving my world behind. 42 years later I stood on Benbuckler Point, tears streaming from my eyes, as I watched QF7474 majestically disappear towards LAX for the last time. Australia owes a lot to the men and women pilots, crew and ground staff who lovingly made QF 747 flights the absolute gold standard that other carriers could only hope to match.
I used to call her my Volvo of the Skies, but Queen of the Skies is more fitting, every time I flew on her, I felt safe and secure, it was a privilege to have flown with her so many times. I watched with sadness the take off of the last 747 from Sydney and watched in awe the amazing Kangaroo pattern on the radar. I am a 747-400 nerd and shed a few tears on that day, and cried a bit through this video too. Thanks Sam for this amazing extra footage. :-)

This was beautifully produced Sam. Such fond memories. I too feel like I've lost a friend. I remember immigrating from the UK to Australia, as a kid in 1976, on a BA 747. We stopped in Bahrain too, as Robert Penfold mentioned. Now, as I think back on that flight, I'm impressed that the plane must have been one of the first 747's that were put into commercial flight. I tried getting on one of the last QF 747 flights, but no luck. So sad to see the BA 74's retired too.
It's not an aeroplane. It's a gigantic soul whose every piece is made up of millions who were a part of it, and those have dreamt of flying in it, and then those of us whose dream shall never come true. Godspeed Boeing 747
this breaks my heart to see a plane go to the graveyard, i feel this aircraft should be put in a museum to preserve its beauty and history, thankyou for making this video for people like me to experience this aircrafts sendoff
PS: Did you notice, Sam, that when you were interviewing the flight crew at the end of their flight, that the video timing was actually on 7:47? Now that's uncanny !!
I was in the US so I couldn't bid farewell of her in one of the Australian domestic farewell flights. However, I was glad to be part of her farewell in the US to her last stop at Mojave.
I never imagined watching Sam's video with tears, and this is the one. This one is very emotional, and the most touching, when Sam taking us to have one last look at this QF 747.
Thanks Sam for the memories! Flew on a 747 from SFO to SYD due to flight issues on a A380 from DFW to SYD, glad I did! The flight over Sydney in the opening made me cry knowing my daughter that lives there and I can't see her for a while, hopefully next year we will meet again!
When you've spend a long time alone in a strange and foreign land, nothing gives you more pride, and makes you feel more at home, than looking out your gate window and seeing that fkn big red roo on the ol bird's tail. Thanks for keeping us safe. SCL-SYD Sept 2019
So many happy memories on her; my late loving mum and dad for one. Joe Sutter, you my friend will be remembered for the lives you enriched. God bless for this iconic aircraft.
The Boeing 747 changed the world forever. There will never be a second airplane like this! I am 62 now and flew many times along as a passenger on this magnificent plane. When i see this footage i have a little tear in my eyes because there is a closing period now for this Queen Of The Skies. The difference between this airplane and the modern airplanes like the 777,787 or A350 is of how he is built that makes her unique!
I remember the first time I flew on the 747, was from Sydney to Singapore when I was about 19yo. Being pushed back into the seat on take off was something that blew me away. Then the epic journey from Sydney to LA return when I was 27. Had a 7 week holiday in the US and was sick on my return flight but it was great to see that big red tail and Kangaroo on the tail. You will be missed. Had tears watching this. You went to soon.
I cried myself to sleep. She will never be forgotten. She is the most outstanding queen and nothing will be able to beat the wonderful 747. My dream becoming a Captain for Qantas and flying the queen of the skies, it is just so sad seeing her go. Her flight path was amazing, in the shape of the wonderful flying Kangaroo. I have not been overseas but if there was a flight with a Qantas 747, I would run to Mum and Dad asking can we go on the 747? But now we must say goodbye to the Monarch of the skies. Farewell Old Friend. You will be missed, but not forgotten.
Very nicely put together Sam. 👍 I watched her take off from Sydney with 100s of fans for the last time. Hard to believe I won’t see it again 😥. My first memory of flying the 747-200 was as a kid the early 80s between Frankfurt and Manila on PAL via Karachi and Bangkok (then a DC-10 to Sydney). My first business class experience was while studying in Japan, on a United Airlines 747-100 between Kansai and Seoul, as an operational upgrade. The QF 747-400 flew me home from Tokyo the day after the massive earthquake and tsunami disaster - I slept like a baby on that overnight flight home
I remember that day at LAX when that aircraft arrived. I had many photos of the arrival and departure to Mohave. I had tears in my eyes knowing this was the end of an era for Qantas Airways. Seeing the Queen of the skies becoming less and less is sad. They were/are still ahead of their time. I myself will always love the 747, she will always be the Queen. There is nothing that will replace her. Goodbye my dear you will be missed.
Boeing 747 is not only "The Queen of the sky" but the symbol of the United States of America. The whole world was so amazed seeing a giant when she gracefully showed up on the tarmac. Boeing engineers who designed and built 747 are modern Leonardo Da vinci. Thank you for the engineering marvels. Thank you Sam Chui for a wonderful report.
Thank you very much for this great emotional coverage. I had my fist flight ever in a QANTAS 747 in 2004 from Frankfurt/ Germany to Singapore, then further to Australia. It was so great and I‘m proud to be a part of its history. I had many flights to Australia with the 747, the 777 or the A380. But my first A380 flight was not so emotional than all my 747 flights. And my first business class flight? For sure, a QANTAS 747 🤩🤠 Good bye Queen, I bow to you 😭🤧
Sam I've seen a lot of your videos but this one out did them for me! Very well done, in fact too well done because I've been sobbing like a baby from the beginning! You captured the whole essence of what 747's are all about and the people and the stories behind them! Wonderful tribute to a beautiful aircraft!
She was the first plane I ever flew on overseas and I flew the jumbos many times. I absolutely loved them and they will forever have a place in my heart. So very sad to see them being sent for scrap, but God love the Aussies, they took our Queen of the skies on her last flight in perfect Aussie style!
So sad to see the Queen of the Desert! I was fortunate enough to have flown on the Qantas B747-400 many times and was able to score a seat of the farewell flight from Sydney. That was an emotional day knowing it was the last time I would fly in this amazing flying machine.
Beautifully done Sam. Such memories. A true Queen of the skies. So sad too that she was denied a full send off by all of us who loved her. Your presentation is a very fitting farewell. Thank you for sharing this with us all
I am a plane spotter living in Lakewood, CA and most of the cargo and flights arriving from Australia pass overhead. I am particularly fond of the 747 and think it is probably one of the most beautiful planes ever built. I saw the Queen pass overhead on her way into LAX and what a treat it was to know I was seeing the last arrival. I also watched the flight to Mojave on flightradar24. Great video Sam. I would love to just wander the boneyard there. I flew on some of the Thai Air 747s in their time.
The 747 was my first favorite aircraft before I also loved the 380. And then when I heard the aircraft was about to retire, I felt very very sad about it. *"She was the first greatest queen before new things arrived!!* - Me ✈️✈️👑👑👸

Unfortunately, 747-400s just aren’t efficient enough for most of today’s commercial airlines, therefore most of them have been/are being retired. The 747-400’s age also contributes to its retirement.

Now, as I think back on that flight, I'm impressed that the plane must have been one of the first 747's that were put into commercial flight. I tried getting on one of the last QF 747 flights, but no luck. So sad to see the BA 74's retired too.
A sad day, I have personally flown on this beautiful bird 8 times over the years. You will be missed! GODSPEED
Just felt sad when she landed for the last time😭 She may be put to rest for her legacy continues...Farewell to the queen of the skies ❤️
Not only you! Each and every aviation lover cried!
Tears rolled out of my eyes without even my knowledge!
Goodbye queen of the skies
It's not an aeroplane. It's a gigantic soul whose every piece is made up of millions who were a part of it, and those have dreamt of flying in it, and then those of us whose dream shall never come true. Godspeed Boeing 747
A wonderful tribute to the Qantas Queen of the skies!
What a beautiful Aircraft. Crazy to think it is that old. I’m so blessed to have sat in a Virgin Atlantic 747 cockpit.
What an impeccable aircraft it was 5 decades of high class service ,no mean task . Also such a nice send off to the machine.
Tears in my eyes for the queen of the skies
You know your in love with a plane when it gives you goosebumps watching this vid
True
this breaks my heart to see a plane go to the graveyard, i feel this aircraft should be put in a museum to preserve its beauty and history, thankyou for making this video for people like me to experience this aircrafts sendoff
Thank you, Sam, for capturing this poignant moment on video.
The flying Queen of the sky with a character and personality of her own, thank you for your service...Adios!!!
I can't draw the logo with my hand, those pilots drew with a 747
Well the air force and the crew helped them to draw the logo on the air.
well, they just had to follow vectors
@Maurice Higer same
@Maurice Higer lol
True
PS: Did you notice, Sam, that when you were interviewing the flight crew at the end of their flight, that the video timing was actually on 7:47? Now that's uncanny !!
Wow! good find
Why did this lowkey get me emotional 😭😭
RIP to the queen of the skies, gone but not forgotten
You managed to see off the Qantas Boeing 747 all the way to the end at the scrapyard! Incredible!
I will tell my grandsons that I was lucky to live in an era where the 747 was a thing
Why am I being emotional? I just love Qantas 747 ❤️❤️❤️
When you've spend a long time alone in a strange and foreign land, nothing gives you more pride, and makes you feel more at home, than looking out your gate window and seeing that fkn big red roo on the ol bird's tail. Thanks for keeping us safe. SCL-SYD Sept 2019
It touched down on my birthday. How fitting, gonna miss you Qantas 74, you’ve done good!
It’s so sad 😞 to see the beauty that’s gonna be sitting in the desert 😔
You will be missed, but not forgotten.
bruh airbus still better than boeing ._.
@@wyxir4191 nah
Boeing made one of the first jet commercial planes
@@mbi9987 jesus boeing is so old and 737 or 747 (old ones) doesnt even have fly-by-wire
Awesome comment. Me too. 👍🦘😥
The QF 747-400 flew me home from Tokyo the day after the massive earthquake and tsunami disaster - I slept like a baby on that overnight flight home
hopefully the a380s will come back online soon
It will be missed
I was there too
#747forever
Absolutely amazing content. As an Australian, this tugs on the heart string.
For sure, a QANTAS 747 🤩🤠 Good bye Queen, I bow to you 😭🤧
I saw this exact plane fly over my head departing and will be forever in my memories 😢😢😢
I flew on a 747 once in economy when i was very young, I've never forgotten it
The first time I went on a plane was on a 747!
Me too but I was a baby around 4-5 months
Great memories with the Queen of the Skies... LAX/BNE/SYD/SCL... Thank you for your service! #qantas #747
Thank you for sharing this with us all
I feel like crying watching this.😭😭😭
I love you, Queen of the skies!🦘❤
I am a plane spotter living in Lakewood, CA and most of the cargo and flights arriving from Australia pass overhead. I am particularly fond of the 747 and think it is probably one of the most beautiful planes ever built. I saw the Queen pass overhead on her way into LAX and what a treat it was to know I was seeing the last arrival. I also watched the flight to Mojave on flightradar24. Great video Sam. I would love to just wander the boneyard there. I flew on some of the Thai Air 747s in their time.
So cool. A missed opportunity for me.

The 747 was my first favorite aircraft before I also loved the 380. And then when I heard the aircraft was about to retire, I felt very very sad about it.

I highly recommend watching the BBC 747 documentary to truly appreciate the incredible people that made the 747 a reality.. RIP Joe Sutter and his team (the incredibles)
RIP to this metal bird of beauty. it will always live in the hearts of every pilot and aviation fan. huge salute to the person who made this video in memory of this masterpiece.
what a loving tribute to the best aeroplane.. you are a very very lucky man to be part of the farewell team.
Thank you Boeing 747 for decorating the sky.
I'm crying 😭😭😭😭
My first flight was on this perfect airplane. B747 - the greatest
2020 has been so bad for us and Aviation!
Indeed
bad in general
So true very sad... All because it's not economically viable. I'm getting tiered of this. Where's the love?
@@jdf1stats ... at least the queen may live on in flight simulators and aviation games.

Thanks to COVID-19, aka the virus originated in Wuhan
I flew on the quantas 747. Majestic experience!
Haters will say it’s just a normal airplane…
…But this « normal airplane » built my childhood. Thanks for the memories, 747 AKA Queen Of the Skies 😢🕊️

I've never flown on Queen of the Skies, but I truly love her.
Same here. I'll probably never get to 😭
i have also not flown through boeing 747-B
I flew on one once but I was like 6 so I don't remember it at all :(
I am also one of the people who never flown to Qantas Boeing 747. This video is the perfect way to end the Queen of the Skies.
I saw 747 but t was the route to vietnam to inchoen. That was our plan. But me wanted dageu. But our flight is a 737 from vietnam to dageu airport. If we just went to inchoen, we could 747. I felt extreme pain.
I didn't know this would make me cry. Thanks for the lovely tribute to the Queen of Skies.
So many Australians have an emotional link to this plane. Greatest days of my life flying OS on the 747.
*_My first and last flight was 14 years ago. I’ve only flew on this once sadly. Qantas 747 will be remembered forever_* 😭😢🤧
It's so sad that after all these years the queen is finally retiring. You can hear in Sam's voice that he's sad about this as we all are. Farewell - you will hold a special place in our hearts
I almost cried
It's like saying goodbye to a loved one😭
A beautiful video Sam, thank you. Certainly an emotional one. We have a few B747's on display in Australia, I just wish there was the ability to retain a flying version in a museum here. Truly a beautiful and iconic aircraft.
This video made me cry. Thank you Qantas 747.
Long live the queen of the skies
Well all miss you!
Hello remember me from that last video. It’s also very sad for the Queen of the sky finally comes to its resting place serving half a century for Qantas congrats to the 747 and for its 2 million people that flew on this amazing aircraft and you being one of the 2 million people farewell the Qantas 747😢😢😢
Farewell to the Aussie Queen of the Skies. You will be missed from the world’s skies :(
Australia won’t be the same without her, that’s for sure.
Aviation LBA why did it happen
Unfortunately, 747-400s just aren’t efficient enough for most of today’s commercial airlines, therefore most of them have been/are being retired. The 747-400’s age also contributes to its retirement.
Aviation LBA oh thank u for explaining
No problem.
I Don't ever see like this most emotional video. Its absolutely heart touching
Watching this in Nov ‘24 and getting way too emotional 😢. Such a beautiful video and a fitting send off for the Queen of the skies ❤

Too bad Qantas never ordered the 747-800 like Lufthansa and some others did.
What is replacing that?

Quick. Get to Frankfurt Or Seoul and jump on one. (Lufthansa, Korean Air Lines)
