It’s mind blowing how clean this little Civic is. The build has just been done to perfection start to finish. For me it’s easily the best build you have done. So much love for this plucky little Honda. I don’t want it to go. I just want to look at it and hear it so you can remind me what the best driving years of my life were growing up. No matter how many ‘fancy’ new cars I have bought since the early Honda days, I rarely think back as fondly as I do with these little gems. Just goes to show you don’t need an expensive big HP sports car to put a smile on your face. Sometimes a plucky little Civic with big heart will surprise you. Kudos Matt, enjoy it while you can 👍🏼
This is one of my favorite builds ever. Graduating High school in 96 then going to college to studying engineering I was always into cars. I bought a 6 speed 2000 celica GT-S brand new while my best friend got a 2000 civic SI. We would have done anything to have a build like this. I spent most of my money modding my Celica as he did his civic. We went to Englishtown on Wednesday nights after class to race and on the weekend I would auto-X my car. A few years later my dad got an s2000 and we would race/auto x together all the time. He still has his s2k and I love driving it with my son when we visit. Thanks for the INSANE build Matt and all the vids. I can so relate to ALL OF THIS being we are near the same age and were in the scene at the same time. Great memories are always brought back when I watch these civic videos. It’s crazy but I was as excited for this vid as any you have ever made. I knew you would do it not only right but better than anyone.
Listening to the vtec crossover took me back to the test drive of buying my EM1 from the original owner many years ago! Thank you for that! Awesome job on this car.

I had 104 Honda's in 11 yrs of working with them and I really feel like I've narrowed what I want to build as my final keeper. I loved my B18 Integra, but after going H22 the B18 feels like a sewing machine. The H can be found for almost free and after dropping in some cheap cams, intake and a p28 tuned ECU (8,500redline) it makes over 200whp and 180+tq. Highly recommend an all motor H build! Not sure how hard it is to get into a civic however. Great build!
This makes me miss my '00 ITR so much, nothing beats that scream when the changeover happens. Driving a' 19 Si now and while I do enjoy some turbo noise it'll never top the VTEC changeover.

The solution to the Hasport rattle-box mounts is to put back the OEM Left & Right upper mounts, and then purchase the 3 torque mounts from the Integra Type R. Awesome to see someone who has reached the ultimate car to still smile at this car. Makes me think I should build a b series car now that I can afford one.
My dad had a ‘99 Civic EX and although it was so far from what you have, the motor and (manual) transmission was an absolute dream. Sure it was slow but nobody will ever replicate Honda engines.
I put just 2 aluminum mounts in, both the front most ones, out of 5 and my car was vibrating way to bad had to get oem. Also this car is best on a Mt. pass, changed my life.
Very cool. We wanted the same old school feel. We are doing a build but wanted the old school Jackson racing supercharger because back in the day they were out of sight. Gotta love the body style. Our build is going slow because work is booming, and winter is here. Very cool. Also Hasport offers different levels of motor mounts. We added mounts to our build that is not annoying yet firm. Love your seats too
It's fantastic to see and I'm thankful for other people out there my age that are truly professional enthusiasts when it comes to the Honda brand🤘 just hooked on brother 👍
Any car that you make it all the way home and turn around and go drive some more deserves to be kept. The smile you got at the vtec change over reminded me the first time I felt vtec.
I own an EM1 as well (obviously not as clean and expensive as this one) but man oh man, you are right 😌 sometimes I catch myself getting home and having a strong urge to just drive around some more 😅 and most of the time, I do 😂 My EM1 definitely shows its age a lot of times but this is the only car that I've driven that where I can say "this deserves to be kept" just an absolute blast to drive every. single. time. . It's definitely one of the slower cars I've owned but it's for sure, the most fun!
man this is it! Cool thing is that I'm wiling to bet you can get 90% of this civic's experience for about $15k if you don't go for flashy mugen/spoon parts. keep the b18c Type R swap and exhaust setup, opt for coilovers, Bride bucket seats, s2000 steering wheel, wheels+tires boom you got a reliable revving machine that will virtually run forever if you just change the oil. Great just great stuff with these older hondas.
@@7eamGhast my first was a 94 vtir (Australian GSR) and then I got an Australian 2000 type r so maybe it was just the change from an early rack. The difference was definitely there tho, the vtir felt light and somewhat disconnected whereas the type r's was heavier and quicker with better feedback.
@@goldchicken13 Ohhhh, maybe there was a difference in Australia. I’m in pursuit of a 98+ Spec B18C right now, looking to swap into my hatch. Such fun little cars. I was a DSM guy all my life and owned a few Z’s. I never understood the civic thing, but I get it now.
Not sure you should get rid of it man, you love it. There are people who would take care of it, and people who wouldn't. What if someone wins it and trashes it... Would be so sad. That being said, I would literally be the happiest person alive if I won that. It is freaking awesome. Good job man, this is my favorite build on youtube
I think you could keep it Matt! Look at the smile on your face (more than if you were driving one of your Porsche's right!?) and the car links to a good time in your past - doesn't that make you want to keep it? Keeps the garage nicely varied too! Very nicely finished.
I have a integra with a JDM type r with a 4.9 FD. Its not the fastest but when I do drive the car it puts a smile on my face every time vtec comes on.☺️
As I am your age and having worked at an import tuner that specialized in engine swapping Hondas I fully understand the B18C choice but the K20 is a much better engine with the same feel and sound of the B series motors. My brother had a brand new RSX Type-S in 2001 I think with full bolt-on mods and let me tell you when I installed his DC Sport race header I still remember how shocked I was at much power it gave it. That car with some cams and a Hondata tune would have been ridiculous back in the day.
That is a Beautiful EM1. Hats off to you for keeping the B Series. It's still a great engine. I know the K24 can do 275whp but the ultimate engine at the time was the JDM Type R swap, so I understand why you went that route. I had a nice EG Civic Hatchback with the same B18C with LSD trans swap and very similar mods and power, almost 210 to the wheels and something like 160lb/ft of Tq, or maybe 170lb/ft? The block was sleeved and bored over to 85.5mm and it had a block guard and a different crank with more stroke, so it was closer to a 2.0L engine. I kept and took good care of and loved that car for over 10 years, and it did feel pretty quick. It was no V8 torque monster, but at 2200lbs, 207whp and 160lb/ft or 170lb/ft of torque definitely felt much better than any B16 or B17 I've ever felt. The only stronger N/A engine I think I've felt from the B Series was a really well built B20 Vtec with lots of good work done and 220whp. Not positive what the Tq was, but I think I remember it being 180ish? Wasn't my car, but it was in an EM1 like yours, and it felt like a good strong engine for that car.
Damn, this car is insanely clean and beautiful. All I can say is WOW!!! You just made me seriously miss my '01 white Integra GSR. You should keep it!!! 👍🔥🔥🔥
I just got the same mounts installed. I have had them about 800 miles and I hope they soften up, it doesn't feel like they have. My idle is a little high though, that might be the issue.
@@chaseteter my dash rattled a lot for a couple weeks especially around idle, then all of a sudden it was good. If you still have problems Hasport also recommends "loosen all the mounts in your car and have them finger tight then go from the transmission mount around counter clockwise and retighten all the mounts to spec" - from an email
Love this series. By far my fav on your channel. I do wish that you kept this car because it would have made the whole series even more special for me. I'm also at a point in my life where I can afford six figure cars, but I just picked up a clean low mileage 95 hatchback because the nostalgia aspect of it is a reward that not many things can replicate in life, for me.
Great video and awesome sounds! This is also a dream car of mine. No turbo, NA, and everything about the car is what I want. If I had the money, that’s exactly what what I would do. And you can’t beat that vtec crossover and the sound of the intake. Music to my ears!! 💪✌️

I remember when I bought the exact same motor and transmission back in 2017 and swapped it in a bone stock 1996 dx hatchback.. to have that feeling again when I first test drove it would be amazing. I unfortunately sold it during a rough time in life but I hope to do it again soon.
Matt i dont if you will see this but spoon makes an engine damper so you can run oem mounts and still feel planted. Ingall makes one as well specifically for the em1
This car is my dream car, i had a 97 civic ex and wanted so much for it but i had to sell it because I’m in the military and its not a family friendly decision. This is my dream car i would keep forever if i were to build one, it would be as close to this as i could afford.
-2.5/-3° in the front and -1/-1.5° in the rear should be perfect for street and spirited driving. Also will perform well in autocross/road course driving. Remember those 90s Hondas will roll a bit in the front end and you can lift off oversteer/feather the throttle through turns to rotate the rear end.
This thing is so stupid clean its almost unrealistic someone's about to have the gift of a lifetime

❤❤❤Music to my ears! I LOVE IT! Takes me back! I can't wait to get another Civic one day
That’s a clean Civic, I’m impressed that thing revs so nice
Hell yeah, dude. Love that switch over.... VTEC for life.
the sound of the intake puffff warms my ears, I love it
You gotta go for the type r steering rack, I went from an Integra GSR to a type r and the difference is huge, better weight in the wheel aswell.
I thought all integras after 94 had 16:1 steering ratio?
@@7eamGhast that's awesome, my brother had an eg hatch that he swapped a b18c2 engine into (Australian GSR variant) and it was so much fun.
@@goldchicken13 eg is even lighter! That must have been a BLAST.
Its not the fastest but when I do drive the car it puts a smile on my face every time vtec comes on.☺️
One beautiful car! Only old school honda lovers will understand and truly appreciate this build.
That car is just so mint now. Looks sounds and performs amazingly. Great job on the decisions made on this build!
Just sold my ITR swap out of my Integra a few weeks ago, and you're making me miss it. I love this car and all the period specific parts! 👏 👏 Amazing!
That smile is 100% authentic
K series is super reliable when built properly. Can't go wrong with a jdm type-r. Perfect build
Damn, this car is insanely clean and beautiful. All I can say is WOW!!! You just made me seriously miss my '01 white Integra GSR. You should keep it!!! 👍🔥🔥🔥
I have Hasport 62A mounts all around and they do soften up after a couple weeks, it will feel perfect after they do
I just got the same mounts installed. I have had them about 800 miles and I hope they soften up, it doesn't feel like they have. My idle is a little high though, that might be the issue.
@@chaseteter my dash rattled a lot for a couple weeks especially around idle, then all of a sudden it was good. If you still have problems Hasport also recommends "loosen all the mounts in your car and have them finger tight
then go from the transmission mount around counter clockwise and retighten all the mounts to spec" - from an email
I had Energy Suspension engine mount inserts on 90 Integra. They didn’t soften up. I removed them as quickly as possible.
@@touringteg The Hasport 62A is the softest mount they make so hopefully after break in OG will be all good
@@JasonMcMullen Hope so! I am getting old and hate extra noise and vibration.
Amazing! Just keep it bro its too much fun! I couldn't stop smiling as you were cracking vtec.
Great video and awesome sounds! This is also a dream car of mine. No turbo, NA, and everything about the car is what I want. If I had the money, that’s exactly what what I would do. And you can’t beat that vtec crossover and the sound of the intake. Music to my ears!! 💪✌️
5:32 nice sound!!!! I love it!!!
Ive never driven a vtec car but that sound cross over is something different and weirdly satisfying!.. is almost like a turbo spooling but instantly..
New subscriber and just watched a few of your vids. Love your content and the cars you own are amazing! Quality and the fact that you stuck with high school desires is awesome!
Agree, B18 suits the car well, less refreshed and more raw than K-series, would love to have a "older" Civic with B18 in it
Love that Matt understands you don’t need 4,5,6,700hp+ Honda’s.
This is still one of my dream cars. Wheels and all. 😍😍😍. This car or a hatch! I’ve had swapped hatches, but nothing this clean.
I remember when I bought the exact same motor and transmission back in 2017 and swapped it in a bone stock 1996 dx hatchback.. to have that feeling again when I first test drove it would be amazing. I unfortunately sold it during a rough time in life but I hope to do it again soon.
VTEC!!! Glad to see it all come together!
Dayaaammm that Vtec crossover is massive! Total dream come true. Congratulations Honda Bro!
I owned a 99 Si in EBP. Nothing better.
Keep the civic it’s the main reason I watch.
You’re 18 years old again when you drive it, way more special than any modern Porsche or beemer.
