      Is there a difference in performance between the classic 737_300 and the newer 737_800

    • @CallsignBookworm
      @CallsignBookworm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed. The newer 737 variants that is the 700/800/900 are much much better all round. The 737-300 has old technology whereas the newer ones are more automated, efficient,bigger and faster.
      It's like comparing a 1980s Toyota Corolla that has a manual gear transmission, manual windows, side mirror, a carburettor, max speed of 80kph to the latest 2024 model that has alot of automation from pedestrian and cyclist detection to forward collision warning to 200kph speedometers.

    At 2:22 ,ATC said QNH 1016, and you seted (when you passed the transition level at 3:10) QNH 1014, is it normal ? 😅
    The radio altitude callouts doesnt use QNH as altimetric reference ?

    Nina swali....during the 'dog leg' maneuver, I've noticed that the Skipper takes control and does it manually.....can the autopilot be programmed to do the same ama it's a system thing and you guyz have to do it manually?.....thanks for sharing.....

    • @CallsignBookworm
      @CallsignBookworm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Captain was the pilot flying hence has responsibility of the buttons on the dashboard while I monitor and verify indications.
      The autopilot was engaged all through during the dog leg where he used the heading mode to turn right and left to avoid weather as need be.

      @DJSIDGE ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not really. I think they slpit tasks. If one is flying the plane,. the other focuses on monitoring the flight instruments to ensure everything is in order all through out the flight. It more of a 'team work' rather than 'I did it thing'. My thoughts though. I stand to be corrected.

    If I may ask what does approaching minimums mean? 😅

    • @CallsignBookworm
      @CallsignBookworm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Minimums are a decision height which we use to decide if we'll continue to land or abort the approach. So, approaching minimums is a call that signifies that the aircraft is closing into towards the decision height/minimums.
      Thank you for your question. Much appreciated.

    What was the break! Break! Callout ?

    • @CallsignBookworm
      @CallsignBookworm  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The frequency was quite busy at that point in time and we needed a lower altitude. As such, the break break enabled atc to release us to Freetown upon which we were cleared to a lower altitude.
      Leveling off would have resulted in an increase in thrust, resulting to more fuel burn, more carbon emissions,etc.
      The aim is to have thrust at idle power from the moment you commence descent all the way to around 5000ft above ground.

    Did you apply the spoilers to slow the plane down?

    • @CallsignBookworm
      @CallsignBookworm  ปีที่แล้ว

      In flight, we used the flaps and/or flight spoilers to assist in slowing down the aircraft whereas on ground, the ground spoilers and flight spoilers deploy. On touchdown I made a call 'SPEED BRAKES UP' signifying automatic deployment.
