    Been out of AC in Arizona for almost 2 years now...I was reminded why I gave up trying to fix it 😂 but man this video is so useful! I might just do it if I get a full free day. Thank you for the video!

      In most cases, the culprit is the magnet clutch coil. If that's the issue, you don't have to completely remove the AC compressor. The key is to use the right size of snap ring pliers. Avoid attempting to pry the front plate as shown in the video; it's not advisable if you plan to reuse it.😥

      Wow, you speak Japanese!? That's awesome! Yes, it's incredibly hot and humid here. Just picture being in a sauna with a swarm of mosquitoes. That's the kind of environment I'm living in.😭

      @mini50 I remember the first time I got off of the airplane coming to Japan in early June. It was like stepping into a sauna - and this was Tokyo not the south. Thanks for this video. I did some more checking on my car and it looks like I'm going to have to do exactly what you did here with changing out the unit.

    Sorry if I missed it in the video. can you link where you bought the ac compressor. I’m seeing prices ranges from 350 to $1,000

    • @mini50

      I got this (refurbished? remanufactured?) AC compressor in Japan. I don't think they offer international shipping but here is the link.
      store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/solltd3/64526918122a-0vvv.html
      It's like US$150. Japanese YEN became so weak against USD.
      The product number is [ 64526918122 ].

    Thank you for the video. So what happened next, did you just connect up the new compressor and go and get the system regassed?

    • @mini50
      @mini50  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's right. I just installed a new compressor, connected everything, and went to an auto shop for a recharge. I personally don't own a manifold gauge or a vacuum air machine so I couldn't do it myself.

    • @arsetent
      @arsetent ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mini50 did they do a flush at the shop or just gas it?

    • @mini50
      @mini50  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, they didn't do a flush at all. They just vacuumed the air inside and added the gas. Nobody knows how much oil is left in the lines.😅 But so far, the A/C is working just fine.

    • @arsetent
      @arsetent ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mini50 I spoke to an A/C repair business today. They advised me that if the oil looks clear and is yellow or slightly green you are good to go. It’s only if it’s dark like used motor oil that you need to flush as this would indicate material from inside the pump surfaces (Teflon and stuff) has ended up in the oil.
      From your video I think you are all good.

    Hi, do you know if the ac is controlled by the gas pressure? got an ac problem where the light is flashing 3 seconds into pressing it, no activity from the ac compressor. Relay is good, ports are good and the clutch engages when bridged. Only thing at the moment is can only get 25psi in the system due to compressor not turning on. so i am wondering if compressor wont turn on due to low gas pressure?

    • @mini50
      @mini50  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not really an expert in mechanics, so I could be wrong about this, but as far as I know, when the magnet clutch engages, the AC compressor should kick into action and start moving. You could try adding some refrigerant gas, but it seems like the problem might run deeper and require further investigation.
      When I replaced my AC compressor, the refrigerant gas was naturally empty, and I noticed that the magnet clutch didn't engage when I turned on the A/C. (I didn't expect any cold air coming out but I just wanted to test it.)

    Can it be an electric problem? Have a 2011 mini hatchback and was told that the computer module does not work (headlights won’t turn off, windows don’t work, directional or emergency lights don’t work, ac blows air only, shows check engine light and brake light is on ) and it’s manual. Please help

    • @mini50
      @mini50  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not an expert, but I suspect it could be an error with the system module (ECU). Try unplugging the negative battery cable and leaving it for a while, then reconnecting the battery. This should reset everything. If that doesn't work, you might want to use an OBD2 tool for further investigation.

    One question, I have the same problem with my mini r53, the question is the tests of the relay part are executed with the car running?

    • @mini50
      @mini50  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Check #3 part? Yes, the engine has to be running.
      But on this video, I didn't start the engine when I was shooting because the microphone cannot pick up the click sound anyway...

    • @purplehazeboy
      @purplehazeboy ปีที่แล้ว

      What if the relay isn’t making a sound?

    • @mini50
      @mini50  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you test it with the engine running and the A/C turned on? If you did, the problem could be either the relay (you can try swapping and testing) or the A/C system itself.

    • @mini50
      @mini50  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There might be a shortcut to replace the AC compressor, but I suppose this is the easiest way for someone like me who isn't a mechanic. Since the R52 has a supercharger, there might be additional steps to complete this task.

    • @hechavarria100

      I admit that the MINI is a money pit. I knew nothing about the car beyond driving it. One day, the dealership quoted $10,000 to fix everything. That's when I thought, "F**K IT! I'LL DO IT MYSELF!!" 😡

    • @ronrendon
      @ronrendon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coz most people don't have the tools required which means you have to take it to a mini dealership which means more $$$$$$$$$ they make. Not only do they make $$ selling you the car, they make $$ every time it needs work done. They win all the way around. Wop Wop. Walking and mass transit really is the way to go. Unfortunately I no longer live in san francisco, cali.....now i live in san antonio, texas (family) thus there is no such thing as mass transit out here so we are all FORCED to drive cars or tanks (that's what i call all the huge trucks out here = tanks) i love my mini cooper, unfort (this is my second one) once they pass 100,000 miles they become a nightmare = always SOMETHING GOING OUT. biggest mistake was not selling it b4 hitting 100,000 miles. sigh. my own fault. they are great cars. great on gas and lots of fun to drive. but once they pass that 100k mark, it's all down hill after that!
