      did he cover the projection angle? i didn't see it
      these cheap chinese projectors are rubbish for a number of reasons... from unrealistic claims to lack of features, whats the point of a projector if it needs to be propped up on a tripod in the middle of your lounge room to get a decent picture?
      go with a reputable brand where they don't cut such fundamental corners, they are the same price, for example you can get a benq px728-4k or px747-4k for a similar price, the lamp is serviceable and the quality of the product, image and it's features will crap over these cheaply made "cheap" over hyped projectors
      if the reviewer didn't cover this then your comment doesn't appear to be accurate

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So let me get this straight. You come in here saying my review is garbage because I didn’t cover “projection angle”, by which I assume you mean v/h offset since “projection angle” isn’t a thing. Then you go on to recommend two bulb projectors from “BENQ” (those are actually viewsonic models) that don’t have h or v lens shift, so you end up with the exact same issue you are complaining about?

    • @elduderino7767
      @elduderino7767 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHookUp you're right i meant viewsonic, great projectors, i upgraded from a w1070 so had benq on my mind
      not lens shift, i am talking about the angle of projection, is it offset or does it project straight like all the other crappy brand projectors where 50% of the image is below the height of the projector and the other 50% is above
      reputable brands project the image from where the projector is installed, so the bottom of the image is parallel to the projectors height
      this makes it ideal for either installation behind the lounge or on the ceiling, without this you need a tripod in the center of your lounge room to position the projector for optimal viewing, why didn't you cover this?
      what is just ignorance on your part or is it because it would outline an obvious flaw with the projector that the company would approve of?
      at any rate i don't see how this projector can rival the viewsonic model i mentioned which is available at the same price, actually half price if the current 50% deal on aliexpress is legit, ridiculous!

    There is a trick to get proper HDMI 2.1 features is to switch to 1.4 first let it load then jump back to 2.1 this unlocks all the goodies for me. I have to do it every single time which is not my definition of fun but I can see the difference in responsiveness.

    I was so excited that you were getting one in after your Expo video - great review as always. This is a nice little unit for above average specs on a budget. My only quibble would be as I associate a projector with a true movie experience (despite being more or less inferior to TV screens) I'm paying for integrated audio components that I will never use in my surround sound set up so would like to see a stripped down version with no speakers. I suppose that's nice thing about UST's and their ability to be used potentially as a centre.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to experience the sound to believe it, it really is incredible. I’d say you would need to spend $500+ on a soundbar that could come close to the v10 integrated speakers.

    • @Space-O-2001
      @Space-O-2001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHookUp I don't disagree that the sound is great as it looks very capable, I'm just saying the projector is going to sit behind me where I have 2 rears already and as such I won't be using it's speakers to confuse a 5.1/7.1 setup. (That is unless it doesn't muddy the water as a rear L+R+centre+sub lol)

      As you can tell by the lineup almost none of them are accurate so that eliminates you from buying anything. As a tech guy who has spent most of his life in the industry it’s hard to come up with a universally standardized set of testing because there are so many variables. Good rule of thumb, you get what you pay for so look at comparable priced products, look at reviews from people who are passionate, and go with reputable brands and think about longevity and maintenance. Spec sheets aren’t universally standardized.

    I would love to see a lineup of gaming projectors (short lag time) maybe 18ms or less with best contrast / black levels.
    This is most important for me when it comes to gaming as input lag is important for obvious reason and great black levels being important for a lot of games that can get dark in certain scenes where you need to look around and see and find things.
    Also would like to know which ones have an optical audio out as a lot of us gamers hook their gaming consoles next to the projector at the back of the room and run our single fiber optic audio cable back to the front of the room for our home theater receiver or sound bar. Unfortunately a lot of the gaming consoles such as the PS5 are loosing the optical output so to have it available on a projector is almost a must now.
    Thanks!

      The problem with reviewing early units is that those units are hand picked for reviewers, so there's no guarantee that the hardware I am testing is the same as the hardware you will receive. Also, when testing pre-production units they often come with the caveat of "this feature will be available via firmware update at a later date", which I believe is the case right now with 3D support on the N1 Ultra.
      I'm happy to do a full round of testing and comparison once production units start shipping, but I don't feel comfortable putting my name/brand on a review if I can't be sure that people watching the video will have the same experience.

  • @tbob2224

    Shouldn't the x3000i be in 1100-1200:1 contrast range? It also supports 1080p@240hz which makes it very good for gaming. While these projectors are neat and OK for watching with some ambient light they are awful for night viewing or a dedicated theater.
    I have a 7 year old 1080p DLP that was $500 at the time (Vivitek 1186) and it has a native contrast of 2000:1, it's just acceptable for movies, but motion handling is still very good as it is DLP.
    I also have a 6050UB (4500:1 native, up to 8000:1 with iris engaged) which is great for movies in my dedicated and treated theater (velvet curtains, flat black paint, dark carpet) but still not in the JVC/Sony range, but those were a little out of my price range, motion handling is OK but not at the same level of DLP.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just because the projector claims 2000:1 doesn’t mean it will actually measure anywhere close to that. I’d expect a claimed 2000:1 full on full off contrast to measure in the 300-500:1 range based on my past results.

    • @tbob2224
      @tbob2224 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHookUp My reply was deleted for some reason... The X3000i has been measured by others at 1000:1 to 1300:1, most of these measurements are probably in a dark treated room with no ambient light.
      I measured the Vivitek myself and it measures around 2000:1 and can get slightly higher with FL Day filter, confirmed by reviews as well (1700:1-2000:1). Specs are nonsense and say something like 15000:1. I calibrate and measure all my displays.
      I saw a contrast hit back when upgrading from 720p (Sharp DT-500, 3500:1 on/off, even higher with iris) to 1080p and again now that we have "4k".
      I eventually went with the Epson there were no real options (excluding some three chip DLP with iris, etc. which are extremely expensive) for serious movie watching in a dedicated theater. I would prefer DLP because of the great motion but under 2000:1 on/off is simply not acceptable.

    • @tbob2224
      @tbob2224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHookUp Yeah, I was just mentioning it because it was pretty far outside the range of what others had measured. I would check for any stray light during your measurements. Checking at the lens instead of screen may be a good solution if your room is untreated.
      I think the 4550i will probably improve on it and I wouldn't be surprised to see 1500:1 or slightly better if the lightpath is optimized and has better optics, still not great for a dedicated theater but could be OK for some with the wide gamut, etc.

    In depth video introduction to this device. But I have no idea what the technical descriptions and measured figures mean in terms of viewing quality.
    With the right projector screen is this projector going to work at home to watch movies from 4K AppleTV, in a basically square room 13’ x 13’ (4140mm x 3940mm)?
    Would have projection screen on the slightly longer 163” (4140mm) wall with maximum throw from opposite wall 155” (3940mm).
    I’m in Australia so have used simple conversations to feet ‘ and inches”.
    Apologises if imperial conversations and notations are in correct. This projector just looks to good to be true and that’s my issue.

    I’m looking for a projector to be put in my bedroom for movies/tv shows. The distance the project will be from the screen will be 12 feet away because of the layout of the bedroom. There will be zero light in the bedroom while watching. Portability, speakers, and os do not matter since I’ll be using surround sound and a Roku ultra. What is your recommended projector with this specific use and layout. I was looking at the horizon pro, Mars pro, and the v10 but was not sure if that was total overkill for the reason listed above.
    I thought about getting the pj40 but the projector will be about 3 feet over my head and the sound you listed I thought would be a bit to distracting. Still torn between a 70in tv or your recommended projectors.
