Hi, have you come across the latest ViewSonic Lx700-4k laser model? This one seems to check all boxes with the 0.65 inch DMD chip. Any possibility to get a comparison against Ht4550? TIA
@@TheHookUp Just curious, are you going to review the XGIMI Horizon ultra which is coming out very soon? Your reviews are so thorough its incredible. Thanks for your hard work!
So much information but it is great to have when making a major purchase. It’s got me questioning everything now. Hands down Epson due to motorized controls and REALLY, really good positioning options. I have a 5050ub now and it’s mounted much higher than the screen.
Simply wow! Side by side measurements and observations on the few available mid-priced home theatre projectors. No time wasted clicking through menu options or parroting manufacturers specs. Fantastic! Would have been interesting to add the LS12000 to the mix. For those willing to stretch their budget, it is the last stop on the way to crazy town. (JVC) Only one point in the review gives me pause, and that is the unbelievably high contrast measurement for the LS11000. Other than that, everything else aligns with past measurements. Great work.
The reason I didn't include the LS12000 is that it's difficult for consumers to actually buy it. Epson intends the LS12000 to be an "integrator" product, like the 6050 was, so you need to use a home theater installer to purchase it.
What do you honestly think of the LS12000 though? I’m in the market for a 83” or so OLED but at the same time it would be great to have a single projector handle 2 separate theater rooms of my home. One being a two car garage and the other the basement. I think a projector at that price range and it’s claimed specs would do me better for theater purposes. What do you all think? I have the ability to buy it but have no idea about it compared to anything in this video. And btw, excellent content!
@@TheHookUp it’s the only way to spend $2-6k for something good enough to cover both locations. Outdoor insulated and finished two car garage during the warmer months and then to the basement for the rest of the year. Else I have to look at a tv or so for the basement theater room and a more basic projector for the garage and deal with not ever being able to watch something with a 1 garage door open during the day - at least that was the majority of the experience with a 500 ansi lumens projector I tested. .edit Now I’m looking at either the 5000 or 6000es from Sony and call it a day. I’m receiving a jmgo ultra and I know it ain’t like the $3k+ projectors from Epson and Sony and JVC, but I wonder how good it will actually be? Especially for that once a year occasion I may want to take it to my cousins house and project on his house outdoors on his few acres of privacy. Decisions decisions.
Man, best review I have EVER have had the pleasure of watching no unnecessary chit chat fast pace with great communication I'm a fan HOME RUN T H A N K You! I like 3D but going to purchase the 11000, Panasonic plasma has 3D smaller sacrifice.....
Browsing through the comments you can see lots of requests and personal wishes. This only happens when people believe in you and the quality is this good! I appreciate the effort and applaud your knowledge! You’re adding a bit of transparency to a messy market.
Wow, what a masterclass about several topics.... You went very deep in the revision of these devices (Only imagine the amount of hours of work that takes to complete this project). Thank You soo Much. Also it would be nice if you can share with us the measurements in a spreadsheet
Always such a thorough job. I feel that your reviews are genuine and not influenced by the manufacturers. And as a 3D enthusiast, I'm really really thankful that you had that info broken down as well. (Many reviews leave that info out and it matters to me when planning to purchase) You have got this down to a science. I'm always trying to find the best value for my money and your reviews help a lot. Keep up the great work.
Serious you are the GOAT when it puts thoughts about various comparisons and poof you seem to make a outstanding video about it. Thank you for all the hard work!
Great video! I really appreciate your balance of data/science driven measurements with subjective/practical opinion. Data is great but most people don’t have the knowledge or experience to understand what the data translate to . Contrast is a good example, a 500:1 vs a 2,000:1 projector will look awful. But a 2,000:1 vs a 10,000:1 comparison might be difficult to notice to a lot of people. I see people on forums pay 2x or 3x for equipment that is only maybe 25% better on paper. When in reality it’s barely noticeable in person and may even come with lots of quirks that might be hard to live with day to day. Anyway, this is a masterclass on reviewing a products! I’m certain this is the most comprehensive review of these segments while being useful and easy to understand no matter a viewers knowledge level
Great comparison! I would think that brightness and contrast ratio are not the only deciding factors for such high end projectors, but I would consider color accuracy, sharpness, black levels, and throw ratio also into the list of key parameters. In my view BenQ scores high in color accuracy, sharpness and throw ratio, while JVC or Sony scores in black levels. Epson only scores in brightness nothing else. My pick is always BenQ for value for money
Fun fact: Pixel shifting can be used on some cameras to get smaller sensors to record larger images. Some people developed firmware for older Canon EOS cameras that lets you record in higher resolutions and it uses the same technology. Just interesting to see the tech in use in so many different places. (You can get 5k out of cameras from 10 years ago, depending on how low you want the framerate lol)
Are you sure it is really “pixel shifting” and not some type of software merging (like what your phone does when moving it for a panorama shot)? For what I know pixel shift need a mechanical actuator, physically moving the chip in four direction (sometimes two) and I can’t understand why those cmos should have this type of device… only out of curiosity, not disregard here… 👍
@@toiranesedoccameras with sensor shift image stabilisation have the mechanical means to do this, so yes some of them have the technology to do exactly what these projectors do just in reverse. It does disable any form of image stabilisation though, and is really only usable when camera sits still on a tripod
Most of the products you've reviewed in your other videos aren't available here in Southeast Asia, but I still can't stop watching all your videos. Great method and detailed, I must say, VERY DETAILED for comparison with other brands/unit for different specs and prices. The time and effort for you to make a quality review and comparison in extreme detail is unbelievable. I hope you become the standard for other reviewing vlogs, you are the best.
This is the best projector comparison review I have ever seen. I'm trying to buy a 4K projector and this made everything so clear and fact based. I subscribed.
I absolutely love the thoroughness of your reviews! You are the Project Farm of the smart home / video space, no doubt about it. The one nit-pick I'd have is the labeling of these low-end to mid-range projectors as "premium" or "high-end". The fact that neither Sony nor JVC made a showing and Epson was the top dog is a great illustration of that. "True" high-end home theater projectors START at $5,500 and very quickly go up from there. And I do say "start" because those people in the rarified range of ultra high end home theaters (the ones that paid $75k for THX Home Cinema certification) will scoff at any projector under the $35k range. So yeah, these are great projectors and the Epson laser hits the point where anything above it will have rapidly diminishing returns... but they aren't premium or high-end!
I think I would call those "Ultra Premium" or "Prosumer" options. $4000 for the LS11000 + $1000-2000 for a screen is still a very large investment for the vast majority of people, especially when an 85" TV from Best Buy is in the $1500 range these days. One other consideration is that these are likely the most premium projectors I'll ever do a review on. Above this price point it's all going to come down to preference and I'd tell anyone looking to spend $10,000+ on a projector that they need to go in to a showroom and decide which image looks best to them instead of taking someone else's word for it.
Such an enxtensive, well controlled, and objective test. The way you documented and presented this really puts it over the top. Well done! I'd love to see a similar comparison of newer entry level 4k long throw projectors such as the Benq HT3560, Benq TK860i, Epson 3800, Epson 2350, and some similarly prices Optoma and Viewsonics. Its tough to find comparisons on this class of projector.
Stellar review. I wish this came 4 months ago as I didn’t even know about the HT4550i. Ultimately, I’m very happy with my LS11000. As an aside, the existing integration for Epson picked it up in HA which meant all of my movie time automations were a breeze to update in NR. Much better than the IR blaster solution I needed for my previous projector. This might be a worthwhile mention on future reviews (HA compatibility).
I’m choosing between these two Epson 11000 and the new Benq HT 4550i. I love my 3d and also the Benq seems more failproof for wife and tennagers… or what are your thoughts?
You have a talent for making abstract scientific concepts approachable to the average person. Perhaps a second channel where you objectively breakdown complex scientific concepts from the news without the narrative spinning so prevalent from the corporate news networks?
Hi is there any chance you could look into the WiMiUS P21 projector please i'd love to know how this stacks up against others for brightness and picture quality. i know it can do a 300" screen but it's so hard to find other info on it. thank you
Fantastic tests and comparisons! would be great if you can compare the UST vs Long throws. There is very little youtube content comparing those and UST projectors has come a long way.
@@TheHookUp Yep i've watched the whole thing. which made me question if long throws sub $4000 are still the king for theatre projectors. Gen1-2 UST with single laser wasn't appealing but going by your review and reviews online the formovie Theater has really step it up even though the Theater isn't even their flagship UST. The flagship Foremovie Max does 4500ANSI Lumens.
Wow. Thank you. My 5050UB developed a panel issue after 3.5 years of use. I have a pink dot on my screen now permanently. (not on the screen itself) Mike from AVS is pretty sure it's the panel. It's been really tough to decide what I should replace it with, and if the LS11000 would be an improvement; a lot of people on Reddit seem to feel the 5050 is better overall but this was an absolute Harvard level thesis presentation on the comparison of these projectors. Now, I have to decide if I'm getting the 11000 or leaping to the 12000, but you helped me feel like I won't be making an expensive mistake with the 11000.
I was hoping you would do a review for the BenQ HT4550i. I haven't seen anyone do a review with measured brightness yet and had a hard time believing the 3200 lumens claim.
FINALLY someone else notices the red chromatic bloom on the JMGO N1 Ultra! I have gone round and round with JMGO support and they refuse to acknowledge that it exists though they have asks for picture after picture and even videos. Very frustrating.
@@TheHookUp I've looked at 3 online reviews that all state that native contrast run from ~1200 to ~2000-1 and Dynamic to about ~5000-1. I think the way to test it is to turn Dynamic contrast on and see if you get the same results.
@TheHookUp I hope you see and can answer this. The Optoma - UHZ50 is currently on sale for $1,499. That seems too good to pass, but really really want to know your thoughts. I currently have a theatre room with a Epson - Home Cinema 3700. It is great, but not having HDR is killing me because most of the movies I watch are HDR and I have to convert. Also the 1080 shows. Would you recommend the Optoma - UHZ50 for a dedicated theatre room with a celling mount for the discounted price? Or, if there is something else you would recommend I'd love to know what that is. I have a PS5 so I play games, watch movies, and watch sports/TV on the projector. I have a full sound system in the room so the speakers are not important.
The UHZ50 being $1499 is very confusing. You can see in this video, it doesn't compete at all at $2500, but it's only $200 more than the Mars Pro at the current price. I would say it's a very interesting option at the current sale price, especially given its very good input lag times.
@@TheHookUpwould you say it’s comparable or better than the JMGO? I ordered the JMGO at first but may return it to get the UHZ50 because the Optoma is actually a few hundred dollars less and it has better latency scores. Do you think it has a picture than compares well with the JMGO? Thanks for your video, it’s literally the only thing on the internet that’s helping me with this decision.
Again - an excellent & comprehensive comparison. Have already put a deposit on the BenQ - but after watching this, I ended up really leaning toward the Epson LS11000, especially after your contrast and sharpness stats (despite sad the lack of 3D). YET - at 25:30, you say that the actual overall picture of the BenQ is 95% as good as the Epson! How could they be so close, given all that's come before? I mean, up until then, it looked like the LS11000 was head & shoulders in image quality...?
Very interesting comparison. To me, since I'm basically set on an Epson LS800 UST, it seems to indicate that the half-4K that does much like the 5050 in this comparo is a borderline non-issue, the 5050 seems to be able to keep up quite well on the sharpness front. I do wish Epson would put more focus on shutting their fans up, though. They seem to consistently shade higher on noise than most.
19:41 It seems like the LS11000 might have weak reds, just like some other laser projectors I've seen. Maybe the 5050UB would be a more ideal upgrade from my Epson 3700 instead? I primarily watch animation and sci-fi, and I can't stand that green/blue push. There aren't very many side-by-side comparisons of the LS11000 on TH-cam yet though.
You just said that the dangbei mars pro is the best bang for the buck but I thought the foremovie x5 from your previous videos was even better that the dengbei at a similar price. I am truly greatful for these videos and wouldn’t know how to navigate in the projector space without them. Big shoutouts to you!
Great comparison! Personally I have the optoma UHD35STx and love it, but not sure it would compare with these? For anyone planning on gaming, I highly recommend optoma especially for their ultra low input lag when playing 1080p 120hz (if I’m not mistaken, I believe they actually go as high as 240hz on 1080p) but as you said we each have our own needs. It would be awesome if you would make a video showing HOW to professionally calibrate a projector for color and everything else, including what equipment we need, etc. I’ve been using projectors as my main TV for a decade now but have no idea how to calibrate beyond what looks good to my eyes.
Calibration is 60% expensive equipment and 40% art/skill/experience. I think for 99% of people it would be better to pay a calibrator $600-800 to come out and get it done rather than buying $5000 of software and equipment and spend months learning to use it.
Excellent analysis, Rob, and timely for me!!! I'm beginning to do research to replace my 7-year old Epson 5020ub...hopefully, this year. Your video is a big help since I don't live anywhere near vendors that would allow me to demo these different projectors. Big help!! ~Frank
How would you compare the HT4550i with the new TK710i? Contrast, image quality… etc. using a grey 135” screen in an ambient light rich loft area for movies, sports, and occasional gaming. Thanks for any feedback - have not seen a comparison of these two models
Thank you so much for all of your helpful content - I've binge watched so many of your videos in the past few days! Just one question - any reason you recommended the Dangbei Mars Pro over the Formovie X5 as the budget pick (since you favored the Formovie X5 slightly in your last living room projector video)? Thanks again!
The Formovie X5 is great and is definitely a better pick if you plan on using the built in speakers, but the Dangbei Mars Pro has a new firmware update that unlocks all the android 11 color management options (11 point white balance, RGBCMY tuning), so it could be calibrated. Since all the other projectors in this video were calibrated to d65 white point it would have been very hard to compare the X5 to them since it doesn't have a true color management system. That said, if you don't plan on getting your projector professionally calibrated and don't have the tools to do it yourself there isn't much of an advantage to having a CMS, so the X5 is probably still the better option.
Hi! First of all, thank you and congratulations on your amazing videos-they’ve been incredibly helpful! After watching them, I’m convinced that a projector is a better fit for me than a TV. Since I’ve never owned either, I wanted to make sure I’m choosing the right option. I’ve been recommended the BenQ TH685i and would love to get your opinion on it. I plan to use it mainly for watching movies (not as a replacement for a TV) and occasionally for gaming. Would you recommend it? Or do you know of better options in a similar price range? Thanks in advance for your help!
Fantastic video! The amount of work you had to put in to make it is impressive! My only nitpick is that if these are “premium” projectors then how would you classify ones from JVC and Sony? I’m curious to see your numbers and observations from those projectors. In my case, I use an older JVC for movies and premium streaming content and a Hitachi LED projector for TV and sports with some lights on. I would consider replacing the Hitachi with one of these for the 4K viewing but need very flexible placement options to make it work in my room.
Great tests thank you so much! I purchased the Jq818c based off your recommendation and for the money it’s great! I do wish you went over some more quality of life points just so us buyers are most informed before purchase! Things like the vertical keystone having no indication where “middle” is, or if the projector has any auto shutdown after certain period (it will stay on all night if you forget you shut it off even if there is no source) I also really appreciate how much care and time you have invested in using the highest quality hardware and conditions so that your comparisons are as unbiased and accurate as possible. But I think it would be valuable to most users to also include a “real world” or “not perfect” section. How does the image look if the projector is slightly out of focus? What if it isn’t perfectly parallel to the screen? How heavily does crop affect the image (if digital). These are all things I’ve seen projectors vary widely in across many price points but especially in the budget areas where I imagine many people find the sweet spot in price/performance. Thank you so much for your contribution to the tech community in these reviews!
in terms of quality- which one will win- short throw or these long throw ones..i am designing a home theatre and flexible for both...thanks for the video ..i have been waiting for this
Standard throw projectors are easier to get "Perfect" when it comes to a permanent screen setup. The shorter the throw distance the more things like wrinkles, imperfections, and texture of the screen become visible. UST's are great because they are easier to wire and easier to "hide" in a normal room, but in a purpose built theater a standard throw projector is still the way to go.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for, thank you! One year ago you compared the BENQ X3000i, XGIMI Horizon Pro, Dangbei Mars Pro, and Anker Nebula Cosmos. You chose the Dangbei as best picture quality, but had low confidence in Dangbei as a brand. Has this changed?
Looks like I need to find a video on how to "professionally calibrate" my projector. Maybe you could do one, I dont think I have seen one on your channel!
Calibration is 60% expensive equipment and 40% art/skill/experience. I think for 99% of people it would be better to pay a calibrator $600-800 to come out and get it done rather than buying $5000 of software and equipment and spend months learning to use it.
I was going to get the Dangbei Mars for an All around movie/gaming projector. They advertise 20ms input lag. But your tests show 40fps for 4k60 and then 58 fps for 1080p@120 which is even worse? Was game mode turned on? I understand manufactures often stretch the truth. Thanks!
Bought the Dangbei Mars pro this Thanksgiving. Had also bought the Benq gp500 to compare. It was day and night. Dangbei was so clear and realistic images (that too projecting on a wall). One thing which isn't mentioned in this review is the upscaling in dangbei is mind blowing. I've seen 720 P content in 4k like resolution. Thanks for this detailed review which helped me with my purchase.
Another amazing review video. Thank you for doing the rbe test on the ht4550i. A shame it showed rbe, even if at a mild level. That means that in terms of 3D capable projectors the AWOL 3500 is still the king of no rbe. Speaking of that model, do you plan on doing an updated review when the Dolby Vision update is released? The alpha release is reported to be amazing when it comes to DV implementation.
I don't know that I'll make a video specifically about it, but the LTV-3500 will definitely make a return appearance in my next UST review. I've been using my HDFury VRROOM to do LLDV on my AWOL for a while now and it's great, excited to see what the native DV update does.
Great video. I would like a section on fan noise. I was just shopping for a new projector. One of the big deciding factors for me was fan noise. some of projectors are a lot louder then others. I purposely stayed away from a lot of the Espon's because they always seem to be loud
Amazing video - was looking for a comparison between the 5050UB and the 4550i and you've gone ahead and done that plus the LS11000! One question or point of clarification I had - I know you mentioned the Epsons have the ability to adjust the HDR tone mapping (?) so that you can make it brighter or darker depending on your preference. Is it correct in saying that the 4550i has no such control and so it's either deal with the default HDR tone mapping or disable HDR altogether?
can you tell me if the dangbei mars pro 4k would look better in terms of contrast and brightness than my Optoma gt1080 darbee? Fantastic comparison by the way!
One thing I've noticed about TH-cam TV, is that even though the app isnt built in, you can still cast to the C1 and it pulls up the full app. Everything works except the back button on the remote. You can power the devise up by casting to it. Also HDMI CEC works very well. I can power the device on and off with the Siri remote and my XBOX controller. The negatives are the short throw distance (I had a BenQ GV31 that did better. Hell, Ive had Vankyos that threw farther). That combined with no optical zoom, lens shift, oven keystoning can be an issue for some folks. If you can get past that hurdle, the C1 is excellent. Another kind of negative is that some version of the C1 Pro was announced at CES 2024 to be released later this year. Another random thing is that this thing really excels at the color red. I mean, anything that's red just pops off the screen. Anyway thanks for your review. Subscribed.
I’m skeptical of a new release this year. At CES they kept calling what they had in display the “C2”, but it was clearly just a C1. Maybe they are just going to global release the C1 pro and call it the C2.
Lol I posted this under the wrong video. Yeah it was crazy how the guy called it the C2, but the presentation said C1 Pro. And it looked just like a C1 with a fancy dual projector mode.@@TheHookUp
Thanks for the detailed review. I recently purchased the BenQ ht4550i. I’m considering returning it and getting the Epson LS11000 instead. Why? I’m on to support and waiting for confirmation but the XPR module (pixel shift) makes an irritating sound for me that I can’t live with. I’ll admit my tolerance for irritating noises is lower than most people. But it’s enough for me to try the Epson instead. I just need to figure out how I can get optical sound out to my speakers if I’m using a streaming stick with it.
This is a fantastic review! Much appreciate your efforts. I just recently upgraded from BenQ HT2050a to HT4550 and very happy with the decision so far. Only one concern is the black levels in really dark scenes, no concerns with bright scenes though. I am not seeing the super black images with 4550 though I can say the black is decent. How does it compare with LS11000 when it comes to really dark scenes? Also would used JVC Lcos models (nx5/7) really make a difference in black levels ? Thanks in advance
The JVC's are a totally different universe in black levels. They actually look black. The LS11000 has a better black floor than the HT4550i so it would be better and in his review he stated he could see the black bars more black than the scene, but the BenQ and others blended together. So the LS11000 will definitely be better, but an NX5/NX7 will be crazy good in blacks and overall image quality.
@@justinbeamon6624 thank you, that helps! I recently came across the JMGO N1 Ultra RGB laser model which seems to have good contrast and black levels. Have you compared the above projectors with this JMGO model? Any thoughts? TIA
Great video, Thank you so much for sharing it to us! I was wondering if you would update your purchase guide for a 200$ budget projector, and if you have any personal recommendations available!
WOW your videos about projectors have so much more info but i was wondering if you were still going to use the happrun projector because i watched all of your projector videos and it seams to be the best budget one and i don't want to ask for an expensive one like the nexigo pj 40 so if you don't mind i would really like the happrun projector
Thanks for another great video with really thorough testing! All your tests are very helpful. Q1: In the sharpness and focus test, I am wondering how come some single DLP projectors can show color convergence kind of issue when displaying b/w fonts. I mean there is only one mirror per pixel, and it is the color wheel that changes the color so there should not be color fringes in theory. Is it possible that the picture was not exposed long enough? Q2: Do you plan on doing a similar test for mid-priced projectors (>$500 and below $2000 perhaps).
Something missing in all these reviews is a example of 3D image quality. It’s a frustrating specification that makes or breaks purchasing choices for lovers of the big screen only 3D experience. I’ve owned a benq w1070 & optoma Uhd51a that both did great 3D especially the Uhd51a, but then I picked up a optoma uhd65lv laser and the 3d had a green hue to it and smaller projected image, I even tried the Dangbei Mars pro with SBS etc formats and same green hue, unacceptable and I don’t know why some projectors do the green tint(both were lasers) the w1070/Uhd51a no issues(even had a 5050ub for a bit) anyone have a idea? But these reviews should show and comment on the 3D quality after all the effort put into these appreciated videos
I have not noticed the green hue that you mention. The problem with 3D in a review is it's impossible to show on camera, is heavily influenced by the specific 3D glasses you are using, and also has a strong person to person variation. If you are seeing a green hue I'd highly recommend picking up a different pair of 3D glasses to see if that fixes it. These are the ones I use: amzn.to/3DfXI99 but I think the Dangbei version are exactly the same and a lot cheaper: amzn.to/3pQNnx8
Can you do a comparison between jmgo n1s ultra 4k ultimate edition 3500cvia vs the n1s ultra 3000cvia vs formovie theatre vs awol 3500, this was we get to know how far have short throw projectors have come, are they worth the extra money, or long throws are still ahead. This also let's people choose for when they have an option to place either.
Can you make an in depth video on the newer versions of the JMGO NS1 Pro VS Dangbei DBOX02 (Mars Pro 2)? Those two seem like the best bang for buck for new 4k laser projectors
Do you recommend ls11000? I have a 12 year old 8350 that just won’t die but def yellowing. I’ve tried the Epson 3800 and was excellent for the price but focus uniformity issues so returned it. Does the ls11000 have any focus issues? And would it be a giant upgrade from an epson 3800?

As a reviewer, I can say that you completely went above and beyond! The amount of time you put into this video is insanely impressive. A+
I've been following his channel for a year now and he has the most comprehensive/objective reviews for projectors and screens!
The only thing is I can’t imagine a “high end” projector comparison with a single Sony unit. They usually make the best in the business.
This is the only video I have found to date that compares the lifestyle projectors to the cinema projectors. Thank you for doing this!
This guy is the RTINGS of projectors lol incredible depth of testing here. Very impressed.
The quality and depth of your testing has to make this a definitive source for purchasing decisions! Great job!
Thanks!
@@TheHookUp Just curious, are you going to review the XGIMI Horizon ultra which is coming out very soon? Your reviews are so thorough its incredible. Thanks for your hard work!

Oh, thank God. I thought it was just me.
@@And1one757 True. lol xD
@@Lafiro Do you mean you would be moving the LS12000 back and forth between the two rooms? I don't think you'd want to do that, it's huge and heavy.
@@TheHookUp it’s the only way to spend $2-6k for something good enough to cover both locations. Outdoor insulated and finished two car garage during the warmer months and then to the basement for the rest of the year. Else I have to look at a tv or so for the basement theater room and a more basic projector for the garage and deal with not ever being able to watch something with a 1 garage door open during the day - at least that was the majority of the experience with a 500 ansi lumens projector I tested.
.edit
Now I’m looking at either the 5000 or 6000es from Sony and call it a day.

Thanks, I agree the projector market seems extremely overrun with paid content... such a shame.
This young man needs more subscribers. Informative, very well spoken, concise…. I’m blown away. New favorite reviewer. He is the master ❤.
Calling this a review feels sub-par,this is just on another level, alot to think about,AWESOME data, awesome video❤
The most comprehensive projector reviewer I take my hat off.
Thank you for all the time and effort.
Amazingly comprehensive as always Rob, awesome job. I'm not planning to buy a projector but I watched the whole thing anyway!
Thanks! I totally agree, above $2000ish dollars small performance increases come with huge $ increases.
amazing work - no pointlesss BS goes straight for the facts and measurements. Wish all reviews were like this
Great comparison!
First time viewer: incredible information density and thoroughness. Wow!
For what I know pixel shift need a mechanical actuator, physically moving the chip in four direction (sometimes two) and I can’t understand why those cmos should have this type of device… only out of curiosity, not disregard here… 👍
@@toiranesedoc Hey, you're right, I was thinking of Pixel Binning and got them mixed up. Thanks for pointing that out!
@larsn7163 if 3D is important to you then the 4550i is the clear choice.
@@TheHookUp actually the fail proof aspect is more important. Have no time to change settings. In the beginning yes, but not in the long run
Epson be better as it has no Rainbow Effects
I repeat this guy's is something else he make those kind of reviews i was waiting for
Wow...thanks for the pile of information! Now this is what I call a real review! Thanks for posting!
You have a talent for making abstract scientific concepts approachable to the average person. Perhaps a second channel where you objectively breakdown complex scientific concepts from the news without the narrative spinning so prevalent from the corporate news networks?
Possibly the best projector comparisons around. Hats off.
Thank you for such a detail and comprehensive review of all of these projectors.
Hi is there any chance you could look into the WiMiUS P21 projector please i'd love to know how this stacks up against others for brightness and picture quality. i know it can do a 300" screen but it's so hard to find other info on it. thank you
Hands down, the best review channel on TH-cam!
Can we get an update on this category of projectors? Thanks!
Fantastic tests and comparisons! would be great if you can compare the UST vs Long throws. There is very little youtube content comparing those and UST projectors has come a long way.
Have you seen my UST showdown: th-cam.com/video/od1W43Oua4w/w-d-xo.html
I would also like to see UST vs the new laser projectors like the Formovie x5 which costs about the same as Hisense PX1 now.
@@pauldack5129 I'm going to be doing something like a "Best of each category" comparison coming up soon, probably not in July though.
Great idea!
Wow.
Will you please let me know what you ended up picking?
I was hoping you would do a review for the BenQ HT4550i. I haven't seen anyone do a review with measured brightness yet and had a hard time believing the 3200 lumens claim.
FINALLY someone else notices the red chromatic bloom on the JMGO N1 Ultra! I have gone round and round with JMGO support and they refuse to acknowledge that it exists though they have asks for picture after picture and even videos. Very frustrating.
Thanks for reiterating this. Changed my decision to buy it
Do you have a 120” recommendation for Fresnel screen? Or stick with the 100”?
is the 5050UB number a dynamic contrast or native contrast?
you can currently get a 5050 UB for about $1000 used, which is hard to pass up.
Depends how used. If it’s been through more than 2 bulbs the LCD screens will have noticeable discoloration.
Your on/off contrast figures for the LS11000 seem like dynamic rather than static (native) contrast figures.
This was on Bright Cinema after calibration with Dynamic Contrast off. Is there another setting that would cause dynamic laser dimming?
@@TheHookUpThank you!!!
Very nice comparision, thank's!
I would like to see on that comparison with the Formovie Theater which was the best projector of the 2022.
Earned my subscription. Quite thorough and informative. Would have loved to see the benq HT3560 in this comparison however.
If you want good reds look for a tri-laser their red values are crazy and usually need to be dialed back.
@@TheHookUp I figured those might exist, but probably not in this price range. A 3-LCD, 3-Laser system would be awesome.
I don't think that exists, at least in the consumer space.
Big help!! ~Frank
Wonderful comparison. This is exactly what was missing smart detailed informative unbiased comparison.
@@TheHookUp Awesome! Thank you so much for the helpful reply :)
Great question. I’m really curious to see how the super premium projectors compare to these.
Been waiting for a video like this. Interested in buying something in this range.
For the price lifestyle projectors are incredible true home theater game changers for sure
Great tests thank you so much! I purchased the Jq818c based off your recommendation and for the money it’s great! I do wish you went over some more quality of life points just so us buyers are most informed before purchase!
Things like the vertical keystone having no indication where “middle” is, or if the projector has any auto shutdown after certain period (it will stay on all night if you forget you shut it off even if there is no source)
I also really appreciate how much care and time you have invested in using the highest quality hardware and conditions so that your comparisons are as unbiased and accurate as possible.
Is it worth the extra 1k to bump up to the ls12000 over the LS11000? And on that note, does the Sony 5000 series beat them both?
I think the consensus is no. You get slightly higher contrast, but the blacks are slightly more blue than the LS11000, which are already a bit blue.
This is how reviews should be done, very detailed. Is it ok to ask the calibration setting values you have for DangBei Mars Pro? Thank you
One of the best projector review videos I had seen... Great job
in terms of quality- which one will win- short throw or these long throw ones..i am designing a home theatre and flexible for both...thanks for the video ..i have been waiting for this
Standard throw projectors are easier to get "Perfect" when it comes to a permanent screen setup. The shorter the throw distance the more things like wrinkles, imperfections, and texture of the screen become visible. UST's are great because they are easier to wire and easier to "hide" in a normal room, but in a purpose built theater a standard throw projector is still the way to go.
@@TheHookUp excellent,thank you ☺️
Thank you! All this Hupla about UST was making me wonder about changing the configuration of my dedicated theater.@@TheHookUp
Still using a 10 year old 1080p Epson 2030 same bulb Econo mode, and it's great...
I think you'll find that there are lots of varying levels of "great".
@@TheHookUp For me great is not spending $2000-3000
Change your bulb! They are cheap, after market is fine, you will be shocked at how much better your picture will be.
True, but I'm cheap, super dark room anyway...@@The-Butler
This is the video I’ve been waiting for, thank you! One year ago you compared the BENQ X3000i, XGIMI Horizon Pro, Dangbei Mars Pro, and Anker Nebula Cosmos. You chose the Dangbei as best picture quality, but had low confidence in Dangbei as a brand. Has this changed?
Absolutely. The mars pro is one of my most used projectors and has been rock solid.
@@TheHookUp wow, that solves that then. That software is expensive!
Can You make guide on how to make calibration step by step? You're simply the best at explaining things like this
On which projector?
I was going to get the Dangbei Mars for an All around movie/gaming projector. They advertise 20ms input lag. But your tests show 40fps for 4k60 and then 58 fps for 1080p@120 which is even worse? Was game mode turned on? I understand manufactures often stretch the truth. Thanks!
I wouldn't recommend the Dangbei if your main focus is gaming. Game mode was on in my testing.
what would be a long throw projector, say 8 meters away from screen?
Bought the Dangbei Mars pro this Thanksgiving. Had also bought the Benq gp500 to compare. It was day and night. Dangbei was so clear and realistic images (that too projecting on a wall). One thing which isn't mentioned in this review is the upscaling in dangbei is mind blowing. I've seen 720 P content in 4k like resolution.
Thanks for this detailed review which helped me with my purchase.
Mars Pro is silly good for the money.
Chinese Hisense C1s is bit better
Thank you for covering the 3D! Great video
Great video. I would like a section on fan noise. I was just shopping for a new projector. One of the big deciding factors for me was fan noise. some of projectors are a lot louder then others. I purposely stayed away from a lot of the Espon's because they always seem to be loud
There was a fan noise section and sample when introducing each projector.
I did not see any options for adjustable tone mapping on the HT4550i. You could use an external tone mapper though.
@@TheHookUp thanks for the reply! I don't suppose you have any suggestions for an external tone mapper?
can you tell me if the dangbei mars pro 4k would look better in terms of contrast and brightness than my Optoma gt1080 darbee? Fantastic comparison by the way!
Brightness will be about the same, contrast slightly better, sharpness and color saturation will be significantly better.
I miss 6050 here (EH-TW9400). Did you every measured it's contrast ratio?
And it looked just like a C1 with a fancy dual projector mode.@@TheHookUp
truly enjoyed every second of this video! What is the screen you're using in the garage ? 24:05?
Akia screens Cinegrey. Not my favorite screen.
You will be unhappy with the ls11000 sound, it’s loud.
Great job, as always!
great content as always; thanks for your attention to detail!
TIA
N1 ultra is in this video, compared with those projectors…
Thanks! Are there any large jumps in quality available If you spend a little more?
Definitely not. Over $2000 jumps in quality are very small per $.
Great video, Thank you so much for sharing it to us! I was wondering if you would update your purchase guide for a 200$ budget projector, and if you have any personal recommendations available!
Love your reviews. Just what I look for all the time
Which is the best among the Epson LS 12000 B and the LS 11000
LS12000 is better but more expensive.
What an excellent comparison. Thank you for your efforts!
Can you make an in depth video on the newer versions of the JMGO NS1 Pro VS Dangbei DBOX02 (Mars Pro 2)? Those two seem like the best bang for buck for new 4k laser projectors
Yes, November 8th.
Very nice. Definitely Project Farm vibes !

It will be a giant upgrade from a 3800.
