Anker has been putting out some decent products. I'm loving my Eufy outdoor security camera. 2K resolution and no monthly cloud fee, like Ring. I'm going all in on Eufy/Anker.
Their stuff has been pretty good. I have been mostly using their Anker power blocks and their power banks. Both are absolutely solid and I would try more of their stuff once I get my own place.
I have been using their Nintendo Switch branded power banks with my phones for the last few years and it is amazing that it has lasted me this long.
Do they really need to be crowd funding their products though?
@@ff1077 No doubt. We have 2 of their 20k banks and a 25600 bank, and we love them. They're actually the reason I started looking at their other products. I've been happy with everything so far.

@@idkyet3573 I think they need the kickstarter. There are only one or two similar product in the market(4k laser portable projector). I think Anker is testing the water with this product launch.
I recently spotted an Epson projector that had a cavity to hide your streaming stick I think it's a great idea because the streaming stick is more likely to die or need to be upgraded before the projector will be.

That really has some intuitive design. I'm at 2:05 and really impressed already. The packaging was nice too.

@@alfiegordon9013 If those specs can delivery 4k HDR10 it is good enough. The video decoder is the important thing here. But you could plug other android box in there and use the USB as a power plug. Most of the other android boxes don't have HDMI through USB C tough (some smartphones have and could also be plugged)

I am addicted to projectors. I use to do reviews for them and tried around 60ish. I own the original Mars and Mars Lite and at the time they were hands down the best portable projectors on the market. The colors were absolutely beautiful, the brightness was about 2 times brighter than the competition, and you could easily get 3 hours of playtime on a single charge at its highest settings. The original Mars is still my go to because it was the only one that had 3D capabilities that was just as good as my $700 projector in my house. You can never go wrong with an Anker.

NOTE: lol there is one thing I WISH they have on these portable projector. I don’t have much influence like you and if you could help me out and mentioned this to portable nebula projectors. If there’s anyway that they can include a sound option where you can edit the Bluetooth speaker audio. Just like on TVs where the Bluetooth audio can be adjusted with a DELAY OR Sync Audio. There is no way to hook up a wired speaker on the portable 1080P projector and if this can be pushed through an update that would make this project perfect. I hope you’re able to pass this message along to the nebula projector team to make this project or even better. I’ve been a fan of your shows for a long time and I want to just say I appreciate all your hard work and putting out high-quality videos.
$2200? For that price it better come loaded with that neat content to help me go blind.
Laser projection is a recent invention hence the high cost
All in one projectors make a lot more sense when they’re short throw or even ultra short throw because then you can have the speaker near the screen. They’re more sensitive to positioning though.
A one year warranty for something this expensive seems really really wrong to the level of being suspicious.
(2:14) I immediately recognised that remote as the Google G10 reference design. I think that makes sense for Nebula as that would allow them to focus more on the design and features of the projector itself, while still being able to compete with Xiaomi and XGIMI by shipping Android. I do like how the Android side of it can be removed and upgraded, as it gives me Framework Laptop and 1990s AIO PC vibes!

What does that mean? Can you use that remote for other things as well? Or is it just a reference design so different manufacturers don't invest in designing 1000 different bad remotes?
Alot of companies use that, what you call, reference design. It's not like you can make remotes much different though. Besides, it's an android tv style projector.

Yes, it'll work with other Android TV and Android devices, if I recall correctly.
It's a reference design in order to help smaller manufacturers get their products to market faster.
There's a Walmart ONN streaming device that uses the same remote design.

They've been advertising their auto keystone correction and intelligent environment adaptibility on their Kickstarter so I'm struggling to understand why you're doing it all the hard way when placing the projector on the table?
if its 'digital keystone' you lose allot of resolution when it corrects for this. heavier the correction, more loss of resolution.

I used to notice the DLP rainbow a lot more and then after living with and watching DLP projectors for 5+ years it seemed to tune out of my brain and it doesn't jump out at me like it used to. I can still see it if I look for it but it really is like it's not even there for me nowadays, very trippy.
I'm the same, brain learned not to see it without my involvement, as it were. If only my brain could do the same in other areas of life that I suck at.
I believe the DLP chip in this is the standard 0.47 inch one. If you didn't need the portability of this one it would be cheaper to get a BenQ 4K projector for about $1000 or less that uses the same DLP chip
But this is good if you really need it to be portable. (Although most of the projectors using this DLP chip are quite light and portable too. They just don't have handles or lasers)
I don't really understand 'portable'. It's got a handle, I guess. Its like those tower laptop cases with a handle. A regular projector is pretty freaking portable

I just keep my old Epson 1080p projector for use outdoors. It's very light and it's brighter than all of the Anker projectors. (3000 lumens vs this projectors 2500 lumens) Also cost me like $400 5 years ago. Unless you have a really great outdoor setup you're not really going to see the difference in contrast or resolution. (Thinking about the majority of people who will probably hang bed sheets for a screen)

Just picked up a Nebula Mars Pro II second hand as my first projector and I love it. The only downside to it is as a portable projector there's no zoom feature and screen size relies soley on projector positioning which isn't the biggest deal but a little frustrating.
For 200 more you should bought LG cinebeam HU series, Lg is really the king of all laser projectors and has tons of features like zoom and unbelievable silent fan, speakers are incredible, picture quality is great and brightness is just perfect(not washed out like in other projectors).
@@dado380 Any Cinebeam in the HU series is £2000 price range. I bought my Mars Pro II for £300 second hand. They’re completely different price points and markets since one is a portable projector and the other a home theatre.

Anker’s auto keystone and auto focus is really good. I had one of the previous Nebulas and would plop it down on the bed between me and my girlfriend and watch movies on the ceiling. Zero fiddling to get it to look good.

Looks great, I used to be heavy into projectors for almost a decade because of picture quality to screen size value (and 3D movie support when it was a thing) but because of HDR, 120hz gaming and FALD (Full array local dimming) I've moved on to a big Qled 4K TV. I'm still considering this as a backup however because of how good it looks and how it can serve other purposes like a bluetooth speaker as well as upgradability.
As linus said, that rainbow effect will really put me off though.

I hate huge TVs
I like how there's no mention at all of the fan noise even after questioning the fan noise in the intro. Fan noise is huge factor so many people don't factor into reviews
I have the nebula solar battery which is full 1080P 400lm and it not bad. Sure it’s no 4K laser projector but it’s good enough quality especially sense it’s completely self contained and gives me the option to watch movies on a big screen anywhere I go without having to carry around a bunch of extra stuff to make it work.
You guys keep making awesome videos. Just the dynamic and the down to earth way… love it. Screw the projector 😜
i do allot of hiking and anker makes all of the electronics i see on trails. odds are if anker made it its built tough and not overly heavy

Anker is awesome. I have one of their SoundCore BT headphones (for like 50 bucks) and they absolutely rock for the price. Good sound, decent noise cancelling and stellar battery (30 mins charging for about a week of everyday use from 9 to 5 and sometimes beyond) They have USB C and are super comfortable to boot.
Not surprised this projector is good too!
Almost all of my mobile electronic accessories are from Anker with the exception of my JBL Charge 4 Bluetooth Speaker. Soundcore earbuds (missed the LTT branded Liberty Pro 2's by 2 days!) , Powercore 10k and 5k battery packs, 18W and 45W wall warts, and USB-C cables coming out my ears. Never had a lick of problems with any of them.
I’ve got a Soundcore Bluetooth speaker(I think one they actually covered) and couldn’t be happier with it. Anker really has been putting out some SOLID stuff.
I've had 2 of the older Anker portables they held up pretty well considering what I did with them (desert camping trips) they didn't break I just lost one and pretty sure I know who has the other lmao
I use Google TV and the assistant really isn't very smart.
So often I just give up and use the remote to manually click through things.
I don't get it, why would someone talk to tech, it is awkward, it is faster to click through things anyway and you do not sound like an asylum resident.
@@Chipsaru Except someone has made a bad remote. If I look at a remote for a firetv stick or something and at a remote of a TV you can be so fast with the tv remote because you know the buttons and there are many. But if you want to klick with left, right, up and down on a virtual keyboard it needs its time. But because the assistant can't understand you (I'm not a native English speaker and even if the assistant can understand German it is in German even worse than in English) you need to say all things 5 times. And than is using the arrow buttons faster.
@@Chipsaru if you're on the homepage of the TV interface, you can pickup the remote and say "play modern family" and the idea is that it will open the Netflix app and continue playing where you left off.
When it works, it's very useful.
But a lot of the time it does something totally weird or refuses to do what you want unless you word it in just the right way.

Google Assistant is infuriating to use. Especially if you have more than one.
Phrases that you use literally every day can stop working all of a sudden, for no reason. So you have to figure out how she wants to you phrase shit to actually work.
Nice, I've switched back to the projector life lately because I had to sell my TV to move. A projector is so much easier to move around with.

i use Fengmi Dice which is kinda similar to this projector and it's been amazing (even has a 3 hour worth battery)
6:40 I don't know why but over the years Google Assistant has gotten progressively dumber to the point where I am angry every time I try and use it for basic stuff like this. How did the same company turn Google Now into this...

one problem with training AI is you definitely can overtrain, to the point they become useless again. It feels like google are circling around this issue for at least 6 months now. Stuff that worked, not gets weird scrambled responses or "i don't know how to do that" - followed by the assistant actually being able to do it anyway
Just a suggestion, if this is really a portable projector and Anker Is known for their Powerbanks, why not fit one of their own powebanks in the projector. You could charge it and take it outside or charge other devices with it.
would have liked to see you try out the tripod socket instead of trying to find something level to set it on, haha. Also wondering if the socket is so you can mount and hang it upside down like you would with a lot of more standard projectors?

It would be great if you could review some high contrast screens. Which screen has the best black levels? Grey, state, black diamond. How many lumens do you actually need to make a black screen work?

I assume it's both a cost and market thing.... With non-toy projectors being made to mount permanently, the cost in both time and R and D to make it work means it's the wrong market for the feature, since almost no one would pay an extra $500 for a feature they'd use once. Assuming the market is big enough for non-toy portable projectors to take off that could become worthwhile... Though I imagine it'd require adding a decent camera, and it'd probably add the ability to do more interesting color correction things too when you project on a wall....I really wish cell phones with built in projectors would catch on, it'd be such a big upgrade to pretty much everything.....
Or maybe a app that uses a smartphone camera and it's gyroscope together with a line projected by the projector. The app would send the correct keystone adjustment to the projector.
This one is next level! I just bought the nebula capsule 2 as a gift, love anker have been buying from them for years.
LG PF50KS and B&O A1 gets you a pretty damn good setup for a fraction of the price and all battery powered and USB-C chargeable. You could even pick up a pair of gen 1 A1 speakers for perhaps $200 for stereo.
They must be paying you handsomely, for me to watch this video to barely catch myself and say "I'm literally watching an ad" which means y'all did a fantastic job/effort at filming this!
This looks really cool, but I can't find any information on the refresh rate. I thought that maybe this is just a thing where it isn't a reported feature for laser based projectors, but it is definitely listed for other like the Optoma 4k. So, what's going on here?

The screw hole on the bottom is for mounting on any camera mount. All telescoping leg devices work.

I doubt those lasers would cause damage. Although even weak lasers can be dangerous if they don't block infrared laser light which is invisible and still bad if directed at your eye

I love my Optima pico projector because it’s actually portable, this is definitely a cool projector but it’s pretty good sized to be considered portable. Lugging that around is a bit different than throwing a pico in your backpack and going.
I agree, at this point you could just add a handle an just about anything is portable. imo if it can't fit in a regular bag it's not really portable

I'm legit interested in this now! have a few of the mini lcd projectors. There was one that came out on kickstarter a couple of years ago but never saw if it went into production where jbl went into partnership with Xiaomi to create a lcd projector. would love to see how that compares to this.
This reminds me of the Epson EF12, but more capable. I'm wondering how they're achieving 2400 lumens and 4K out of it. Is it simulated or did they magically create a flux capacitor that can push that much power, resolution, and light through such a small package?
I believe it's using pixel shifting to create a 4K image. It's not native 4K if I'm not mistaken.

Idk man, it didn't look like this thing had auto-keystone (or any keystone), and little height adjustment (mechanical feet or screws). Especially a product designed by anker should have some form of battery power even it requires huge brightness shortages. At least enough for 30min-1hr of use.
Especially on a product that costs $2000+, a few hundred on a lithium battery pack seems like a required addition.
The beamer has auto keystone and screen fit. And in regards to the battery I can only talk about myself but I'd probably buy a hefty external power supply, as you said with this brightness you would need quite some mAh which would probably make the beamer a lot bigger and not portable at all anymore.

It looks like it might be time to upgrade from my LG PH450U. I love this little projector, especially since it has a built in TV tuner, but this or the Samsung Freestyle are now on my list.

Ah yes, RAM and processor type. Usually the things I look for in my standard mini projector.
It seems you can change it so it doesn't really matter that much (hope they will sell it separately so we could use our own, like putting a Chromecast 4K with android tv).

Now i want to see a comparison between this nebula projector and the samsung freestyle projector and really see where we can draw a line between quality and portability in a projector.
Because while this is amazing, samsung one is lot smaller but attaches to a light bulb socket(how cool is that)
This seems very good! If anyone is interested the Kickstarter early bird pricing is $999 (US) for the 1080p version of this projector or $1500 for the 4K version which seems like a great discount for a projector like this.
It's always nice to see a new short circuit video, but I can almost guarantee every time the product is so astronomically out of my price range that I will only ever watch the video and know that the product exists for me to never buy it

This seems too good to be true, the test products may seem great but the mass produced ones could be very different or cost waaay more. This happens more times than not.
How are the black levels on this projector? Is it a large improvement compared to traditional lamp projectors?
Anker should be funding the ventures of Nebula, not the people, because the risk needs to fall on Anker and not the crowd funders.
It would be different if it was a small startup but it's not.
I believe the difference here is Anker fronted the startup costs for tooling, now they are giving early backers the chance to get it at a super discount to cover the early costs of mats

They're support is really not good, I have the Nebula Mars II projector and it needs repair, and even if i say i want to pay for the repairs they dont do nothing because they say that i didnt buy it from a registered partner, even though the company i bought it from says that they are partners. Now i just have a expensive paper weight. This is really not ok!
The company you bought it from could be lying about being partners. If so, that company is more to blame, and not anker, but this is just speculation.
@@AllTheBeef I'm not rolling out that possibility, but what i do know is that the projector is made by Anker, and they should fix it, I'm not even talking about warranty, i want to pay for the repair, but what does it matter where I bought it from for them to repair it? It's simple, it broke, it should be covered in warranty for what happened but I'm not even trying to get a warranty service, if i need a repair, they should repair it. That's my way of seeing it of course.

Am I seeing this right: All the troubles you have with adjusting it to the wall/screen would be handled by the Samsung The Freestyle automatically right? (Not vouching for it, but that would be a big plus for portability)
Can it still be used without the streaming dongle installed? Also, can you direct connect a usb-c phone that supports display out in the dongle's place?

This is the second time I’ve recently seen “upgradeable” devices where the “brains” are what you can upgrade. It makes a lot of sense when there probably isn’t a big need to upgrade the rest of the device so often.
Laptops immediately spring to mind. How often do you really need to upgrade your screen, keyboard, trackpad, case etc.? Please can we have laptops where you can swap out the mainboard. Mainly talking to Apple who won’t listen.
A brain and a streaming device are two totally different things, an upgradable device such as this projector can't have extra ram added and a faster cpu put in it, just like some of the modern laptops and macbooks, I just don't get it.
@@tyronenelson9124 I saw the “brain” as a streaming device so swapping that out you could upgrade the ram, processor etc. That’s exactly my point, that if you were able to swap out the mainboard, it wouldn’t matter so much if the ram was soldered on to it.

They did. They covered the initial startup, tooling, etc. The Kickstarter in this case is to get initial mats cost covered while giving early backers the product at cost with little to no upcharge

Panasonic Commercial Screens / Signage use to have a standardized module for the Streaming Media player built into the "TV". I wish that became an industry standard as the inbuilt OS & ARM hardware of the time became outdated very quick but we still use the same screens today. But such a consumer friendly design contradicts the Profit from Disposable Electronic devices that need to replaced every handful of years. Awesome to see Nebula try to make a consumer friendly version with standard wired ports.

why do you need storage on a projector?
I really wouldn't personally mind paying that convenience tax for the sake of having a dedicated item in this use-case, where, other items would likely fail and end up costing me more money in the long run

If I'm expected to game on it, it needs to have space for a small game library.
If I'm expected to do a business presentation for some reason, it nedss to have room for demo videos. It's gotta be 4K Demos bc you can't be taken seriously if it looks like a crappy upscale of a demo.
There are lots of reasons to have more than 16GB of storage.
It's not like this is your Nan's ipod with 50 Disney songs, an outdated version of Angry birds and Candy Crush on it, it's a consumption device.
It's not like it's a smart TV that stays in one spot and can be hooked to a NAS it's whole life, it's supposed to be portable.
I spent $35ish on a 256GB microSD the other day. There's no reason that level of storage couldn't be built in.
@@rustyshackleford5166 It does seem to function with a dongle, I don't think the bulk of the price comes from the on board storage.. most people will plug in a laptop/mobile/portable drive. Storage on a device like this would probably be the last thing I look for. That being said, I understand your argument, I have a smart tv that has storage space on the smaller side of things and it does cause issues with some android TV patches. but we're talking less than 4gb compared to 16gb which should be enough for anything.
Wait... so we are back at actual full blown companies doing kickstarters again for ... reasons ...? So basically you can't even really order it yet if you wanted to? I normally don't mind sponsorships but this is just a bit silly. To be clear, there is no good reason to place this on kickstarter as clearly the product will be a thing. If I am being cynical the only reason I can come up with is that this way they can just rake in extra money from people pledging without reward? I mean otherwise they might as well just make it a regular pre-order process...
Edit: To be extra clear, if they just used kickstarter as a pre-order system I would have less of an issue with it (though still find it a bit odd). But they also allow pledges without rewards (seems dishonest for a product that is already done) and also state this on their kickstarter page

Early backers get it at cost without much markup to help cover the final tooling and mats cost that the Anker investment couldn't cover.

Why can't they cover those costs through a regular pre-order system instead of going through kickstarter with an already completed product. It just smells a bit off to me if I am being honest, I also just don't understand it as Kickstarter to me (and many people I know) has a reputation of people throwing lots of money to it and most of the time not or barely delivering and rarely what was promised.

Are you kidding? This is not some independent company, it is just a daughter company they founded or a division within Anker not some scrappy company. If what you said is true about them really needing the money then Anker with intend decided to not provide enough funding and instead of providing additionally funding is simply offloading it to consumers in a less than honest way.

4:54 yes the projector will need to see your eyes and go back 0.01 seconds in time to dim the projector before the projector light hit your eyes.
