  • Canon 50D is it still worth it today? I will review the Canon 50D and see if it will still work in todays world of photography. The Canon 50D has been a workhorse of camera through the years. I shot with it from 2008-2013! I still use it as a backup. It's my wife's favorite camera, even over the Canon 6D, but she is used to the 50d! It's a great and low cost camera to learn on!

    I've shot with this camera since 2009 and am still absolutely satisfied with the results, which are professional. So many people with much more expensive cameras don't do better shots.

      I shot many weddings with the 50d as my main camera. It had a great run. I do believe it could still be done, but my R6 is so good under low light it’s almost unbelievable.. I’ve got a low light video comparing a few cameras coming out in the next few weeks.. be sure to check back! Thanks for watching!!

    I bought a 50D with an 18-55 STM in like new condition from MPB a few months back . I loved it the moment I set eyes on it - it's a tank of a camera ( that feels just right despite its size ) and easy to hold still when pressing the shutter because of the weight . I especially like shooting with my own color profiles with the C1 and C2 functions . I also managed to snag a brand new in the box 70D and a brand new in the box 430ex flash a couple of days ago . Seems almost a shame to start taking pictures and spoil the fact that both of these classics have made it a decade without being used 🤥 .

    How come you never mention the 40D which is in between the 30D and 50D?
    FYI, I extensively used 50D for six years then sold it out. Recently, I bought a used 40D from B&H used department in excellent condition. I love it and prefer it to the 50D. Also used 70D and 90D. To me 40D is the best out of all the Canon two digit prosumer DSLRs.
    I don't shoot videos therefore, never concerned about it. DSLRs devoid of this option suit me better.

    Hi. I was thinking of buying a new camera to go on Safari till I saw your video and remembered that I have this buried in storage. I feel it is still in decent shape. If I pair it with the EFS 18-200 IS lens, do you feel that I would be covered or is it a risky proposition for a once in a lifetime trip? Thanks

    • @studioatlanta
      @studioatlanta  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the condition of the camera! Also that 18-200 may be a little slow unless all images will be shot in full daylight. Maybe if money will allow look into a 70-200 f4.0 IS Canon soon, and then look at a Canon 24-70 f2.8 (Or Sigma) then you'll have good lenses through all the ranges. If you can get to the Canon 50D and check out the batteries and test the shutter it would do a fine job! Make sure you have a few batteries, to take! Check KEH.com for anything you don't have or may need. What would be best is if you have time find the Canon 50D and have it checked out by a camera repair store, as they could tell you more info.. Just fyi what new camera were you gonna look at? Also, how soon is your trip? Let me know and I'll be glad to tell you what I would do in your situation! Thanks for watching! My email is studioatlanta@yahoo.com if you'd rather not give out info to be seen by everyone.

      @@studioatlanta Thanks for your help on this. The Safaris are generally in the morning and the evening as they say that’s when the animals are most active. Daytime is too hot. I found my 50D and turned it on and it still works! I would simply set everything to automatic and try to stay in the moment. I also have a Tamron 17-50 F2.8 and Canon 75-300 f4-5.6. I have three batteries which I will check out to see if they are all still functional.
      In my current life, I have a Fuji x100v but I didn’t think that would be good for Safari photos. I was thinking of trading in the x100v and picking up the Fuji x-T50 when it comes out later this month. That would give me lens flexibility. Problem is that it’s not weather sealed.
      Sounds like a new lens paired with the 50D might do the trick. And then keep my x100v for regular everyday life and street shots.
      Thoughts?

So if at 200mm zoom, double your shutter to 400 or the next available higher shutter! That way you want get any blur from the long focal length! However if you compare low light, or the aps-c lens crop you’ll be much happier with a full frame even if it’s a DSLR and not a mirrorless to save money.. I’d say price a 5d mk3 or a canon R6 depending how n your budget. I would say it will make an excellent back up camera.
