For me it is X-E3 + 35 f1.4 and that's all I take as I don't like to think about changing lenses. Small, compact, never got a problem even in a small rain. Great soft, glow rendering, good for lowlight. Good enough bokeh and subject separation. Cons are slow AF and aperture ring could be less loose.

I am currently on a seven-week journey through england, bali, seychelles, and mauritius and i am carrying the fuji 16mm f/1.4, 33mm f/1.4, and the 90mm f/2 and shooting portraits and landscape. it’s an experiment as normally one of the three would be a zoom but i just don’t love my tamron 17-70…yet…we’ll see how it goes but i do love these lenses.

Great video, I agree with all of these and carry the 35mm and the sigma 56mm myself. I have the 23mm f2 but I’m ready to move it on as I always find it a little too wide for most of what I shoot and always find myself cropping if I use it for street.

The Fuji 35mm f2 was my first ever prime purchased years ago and I still love it. Currently my other two are the fantastic Voightlander 27mm f2 Ultron pancake lens and Sigma 18-50 f2.8 which is razor sharp, small and light.

Same 35mm f2 and totally agree with your statement. Latetly i bought the sigma 10-20mm. Great ultra wide shots possible. But I have to change my style a little. Finally the 55-200 is always on my xt2. Maybe I Upgrade to the 70-300mm. Still travel friendly

Love the 18mm 1.4. I was really into shooting it in the recording studio in low light situations. The one thing I will say is that now that I’ve been using the voigtlander 27mm I’m realizing that I like a little bit more of a characterful lens. 18mm is just so crisp that sometimes it can feel clinical. Still highly recommended, not too huge, really fun iPhone like focal length, great modern performance.

Going on a trip in a week and I'm bringing my X-T5 + xf 23mm f2 + ttartisan 35mm f1.14. The 23mm is my all around lens, it's on my camera 99% of the time. However, I like playing around with vintage/vintage style manual focus lenses too, so that's what the ttartisan lens is coming along for.

I must agree the 35mm f2 is a great lens it's always on my X-T3 when I'm walking the streets of London. I recently bought the sigma 56mm lens and I'm definitely getting the TT Artisans 27mm it's on eBay new for £125 so a no brainer really.

I also love the TTArtisan 27mm! Frankly it lives on my X-S10. I just got home from Scotland and also brought the Fuji 16-80 f4 and Canon FD 80-200 f4L, which is pretty much the perfect combo for what I shoot. Well, I'd really like the Fuji 70-300 if I'm honest haha, for the extra reach, but that's not quite in the budget yet...

    That's a great little kit!
I've been struggling to find the kit I'm going to take on a 3 month trip through China, Japan and South Korea. I think the best will be to keep it minimal and light like you mentioned, but for big trips with lots of different photo opportunities, it's a bit hard to choose to do that
At first I thought on the 10-24, 16-55, 70-300, 18 1.4 , 33 1.4 and 56 1.2. But the more I think about it, the more I want to simplify. I'll drop the 56mm and carry the rest. For landscape focused days, I'll carry the zooms. For street focused days, I'll carry the 2 primes. And for light travel around, I'll carry the 16-55 + 33 1.4.

I like zooms over primes because I don't like changing lenses that much. My walk around on the X-S20 or my X-T5 is the 16-55 2.8. I have the 10-20 in my bag and the unheralded but sharp 15-45. The Viltrox 13mm is also handy. I do have the primes you mentioned but the zooms work for me. I don't shoot in the long tele range.

    Hi Jay
    Liked your video -
    (1) I'm primarily a stills photographer, and like to travel light. Usually with just 2 lenses; the original XF18/F2 & XF35/F1.4, good examples of which are available in good condition S/H, for much less than the new XF35/F2 & ridiculously priced XF27/F2.8(WR).
    (2) For a time I increased the travel lenses to 3; XF16/F2.8, XF27/F2.8 (MK1) & XF50/F2, but this gave me less joy in use than the previous 2 lens in outfit.
    (3) When I'm not travelling light, &/or, when feeling lazy I'll use my X-H2 (as opposed to my X-Pro2), with XF16-80/F4 zoom, (together with when required XF50-140/F2.8).
    (4) Recently I've changed my gear, feeling that an XF18/F1.4 (WR) or XF23/F1.4(WR) used with the X-H2 (with the 40mp sensor) would allow for some serious "cropping" should the situation require. I chose the 23mm option, but I'm not completely satisfied.
    (5) The problem is that the latest Fujinon F/1.4 (WR) lenses are just too big & heavy for travel/street photography, and don't balance so well with the X-Pro2 & smaller Fujifilm cameras - you might as well consider going full frame!
    (6) For similar reasons, I would not consider buying the reportedly excellent "pro-line" Viltrox, 13/F1.4, 27/F1.2 (I have borrowed this lens for an afternoon shoot, with my X-H2), & 75/F1.2, none of which "rock my boat" for street/travel photography.
    (7) For light weight photography you have already chosen the gem - Artisan27/F2.8 - I've only tried it once, and was blown away by the results - for the money!

If I’m taking three primes they are the Fuji chrons 23, 35, and 50mm lenses. When traveling light it is the kit 18-55mm lens. It has all the focal lengths I like. It is sharp and has OIS. Many of my bodies lack IBIS.

I returned my TTArtisans 27mm this week because the vignetting was a little too severe for me.. and I know it is (mostly) correctable via firmware update and post-processing... BUT TTArtisans does not support MAC OS for firmware updates. I do not have access to Windows OS so I was unable to update... left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth not knowing when (or if) I would be able to unlock the full potential of this budget beast.. Unfortunate as the titanium finish looked CLEAN on my DuraBlack XP3. Love my sigma 56, especially for the price... get a helios like fall off shooting portraits into wooded areas. Just ordered the Zeiss Tuoit 32 f1.8 as my ~50ish equiv. solution. Great video! Love the content, Cheers!

Did you use it with its lens hood? When I got mine I did and the vignetting was awful. Removing the hood got it down to more than acceptable levels for me. There again I do like a bit of a vignette and often add it in post. I kept the hood for use on the TTartisans 35mm f1.4 where it works very well indeed.

I am an old fart who learned photography in the 70s, so I prefer to have total control of the camera settings. Last year, I bought two Fuji cameras I love, an X-T30II and an X-E3. I took the T30II on a trip to Disney World in January (I should have taken the E3 for its size) and took four lenses, all TTArtisan, the 17mm, the 27mm, the 35mm, and the 50mm. Of all the lenses, the 27mm was my primary lens, and I used it in full automatic mode. I love that lens.

Thanks Jay for this inspiring video pal. I was surprised though (and curious of course) that you have both 27mm and 35mm in your bag when travelling. From your experience, what scenarios would you pick one of the two focal lenghts over the other? The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at getting an in-betweener to slot alongside my 16mm f1.4 and 33mm f1.4. The perfect choice would have been the 23mm f1.4 LM WR but the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 is too tempting! But being a 27mm instead of a 23mm, I'm a bit anxious if the difference in field of view to the 33mm is negligible. Please can I have your thoughts? Thanks in advance! 🙂

    • @Jay_Ducker
      @Jay_Ducker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Firstly, thank you, secondly you pose a good question. My initial reaction when reading your comment was to go for the 23 f1.4 but that Viltrox 27mm is very tempting. You may want to try renting and see how it suits you before making the purchase. For me, it's not all about focal length, it can be about performance in low light or weather sealing. A myriad of reasons but all personal to oneself

I have used those three lenses and they are great lenses to have in your bag .. BUT .. for the total price that you paid for those lenses and the combined weight of the three lenses, I found out that the Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 gives me way better photos. The Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 is a RED Badge lens which means it is in a totally different category and is Fuji's Premium line of lenses. You can 100% see the difference. And, the difference between a 1.4 and a 2.8 (on a premium lens) is barely noticeable. Furthermore, having one zoom lens on your camera means that you are always ready for whatever is in front of the camera.

I did own the Sigma 56 mm. This lens is much better than Sigma's 30 mm one.
However, I ended up selling this lens after I found out that I tend to use much more often Fuji's 90 mm f2.
I think the LM WR lenses are Fuji's best offer, and to me personally 18 mm 1.4 stands out because it's also a semi-macro lens and it's simply incredible.
For a trip I would probably consider these lenses depending on a trip.
    1. If I want to take pictures of birds - Fujinon 150-600
    2. Fujinon 18 1.4 lm wr - the most versatile option in my opinion
    3. Fujinon 33 1.4 lm wr - if I take portraits in the trip
    4. Fujinon 27 2.8 - a little boring but so light that it's the main idea.
    5. Fujinon 90 mm f2 - if I want a telephoto lens for my trip but I am not going to shoot birds.

@@Jay_Ducker looking at getting something in the 27mm or 35mm spectrum. Also want to go and get some fully manual TTArtisan lenses, those are a fun play

I can`t beleave you still don´t have the Viltrox 27mm F1.2 PRO 😆, it´s the best X Mount lens ever built. With it you don´t need the 23 or the 35 mm
