  • I've used the 90D every week for the last 3 years. Here are my thoughts on purchasing one in 2024 based on my experience.

I used a T3i and T5i body for video work over the last 10 years. Only need 2 lenses for 90% of my shoots (Sigma 30mm 1.4 & Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide)
Just picked up the 90D with the 18-135mm. The auto focus is SO much faster!!! Thought about going "all in" on the Sony AS7 III system but balked when saw how much $$$ it would cost to fully update the lenses as well. APS-C lenses are DIRT CHEAP now and the 90D is a nice upgrade to compliment my investment in older APS-C lenses. As a bonus... software like Topaz Video AI can be used for final edit upscaling and frame rate conversion. This allow me to maintain a 1080p workflow and use the software to convert the final edit to 4K without having to deal with the data management & processing headaches of large 4K native files. Sure, I'd love to work in 4K all the time, but its such a pain in the ass. 1080p is way smoother and quicker.

I love my 90D, it's an absolute beast for wildlife and bird photography. Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall for Canon dslr cameras. Its not that there is anything wrong with the gear (personally I love all my dslr's) but as the years go by, Canon will simply discontinue service parts for ef lenses and dslr cameras so that when they break, malfunction or date, you will not be able to get them repaired or serviced. I have an old ef 24 - 70 mm f2.8 i L lens. The glass is perfect but the autofocus is shot and it gives me error readings. I took it to Canon to be repaired, but since the parts are discontinued, they just won't help me and I have to throw what was an expensive lens at the time into the dustbin. I think that ultimately, this is what will happen to their entire dslr range and to the ef lenses. For us, "average Joe's", investing in camera bodies and lenses is not a cheap exercise. I find it extremely frustrating that having invested so heavily in dslr camera bodies and ef lenses and having at last built up a fairly respectable camera bag, that Canon has just decided to press gang all of us into its mirrorless mania. It is for this reason that if I was buying my first camera today, I would go mirrorless and begin a collection of rf lenses.

I've had my Canon EOS 90D for almost 3 years and I still believe this is a one of a kind DSLR to have in your collection! I learned a lot from using this camera. I was a bit hesitant at first, but once I understood the basics of photography and benefits of using the EOS 90D I can say it made me more confident to use it more often!

I bought an 1100D a month ago, and love it. I'm new to DSLR and thought the 1100D would do me, and then I saw the 90D. Heaven. Absolutely love it - well, I love both cameras. I'm not worried about having the latest or greatest gadget or gimmick. These cameras work, that's all you want them to do.

My goto camera for wildlife photography are 1DIV, 5DIII & 7D. For other puposes, I use 40D, 5D Classic and 5DII.
    BTW, I'm DSLR forever.

I think this is a very misleading video. I don't mean to offend you. You seem very well informed about the 90D and people interested in this particular camera get a good overview. But calling it a 2024 Review and not even comparing it to the modern mirrorless options, seems very fishy to me.
While the 90D was and for people who bought it, when it released, still is a great camera, buying one in 2024 for around 1100€ here in Germany, while there are far superior mirrorless bodys, that outplay the 90D in pretty much every aspect (like the R10 for around the same price, or the R7 for a little bit more) except for maybe the battery runtime in photo mode, is just not a good investment in my eyes, especially since EF glass works flawlessly and performs even better on the RF mount, than on old EF Cameras in some cases with the quite cheap adapter.

@@2bsure So you want the modern features of a mirrorless, but also for it to go clippidiclap sometimes.
I can somewhat relate. Was missing the loud banging sound of the mirror assembly at first. But I got an R7 later, which is almost louder than my last SLRs, so that got the sound covered funnily enough 😂

Was going to get the R5 but I decided to go with another 90D. The 90d megapixels is great for run and gun. These days with all these new cameras options with 4k and 8k remind me of ev cars with all these options to go any and everywhere. However when you get to 90% of the charging stations when you pull up the just don't work. If you are doing a lot of youtube and weddings a lot of the new cameras are just overkill. 8K REALLY 4k has not even been mastered. When facebook or youtube gets a hold of it the content on these new cameras the videos are simply compressed down shelling out 5-10 k for a camera when dealing with mostly average couple weddings who are on budgets is just not ideal. Where are they doing to store the space with all those big files lol The 90 D is a great camera for all your photography needs. I have some great lenses for it. Great content and video Collin. Thank you

Great comment. I ponder on getting higher end 📸's but when I think about it 90% of my content will be viewed on social media & 90% of people will view from a smart phone. Its diminishing returns for me. You will need a higher powered CPU & more expensive SD cards when filming 6K or 8K. The average person doesn't care if your 📸 film 4K or higher. They just want to know if it look good. It's easy to get caught up on 📸 influencers an their pointless test. Who will be zooming in 500%?

So, I own three 70D cameras, obviously the 70D is not the 90D but instead a precursor to the 90D by two generations.
I find the 70D to be an outstanding camera for photography! It is my favorite APS-C camera I've shot with. I own three of them (along with a 1DX mii) so I can put different lenses on each for quick changes at events, sports shoots and for multi-cam video shoots.
If you are looking for an APS-C format camera, I feel certain the 90D will satisfy.
I used to be a professional portrait, event, and commercial photographer before digital. I'm shooting more video now than stills.

Canon D90 is by far my go to, it works well for photos as well as video, its got a good range of lenses to choose from, its real good on focus either manual or full time focus for video my only negative is its not real good in low light compared to my Nikon, but a light ring can help even that issue out and today post editing can definitely up some of those issues to save poor light images if you know how to edit well. Ive even used it in a fricken blizzard and it never failed me, even soaking wet, windy and freezing. Battery life is definitely better then my other cameras and I got it because its as good in photos as in video. I think its excellent, its got most everything you need to get professional photos but its not going to compete say with a Nikon Z, for the money you can't beat it if you ask me.
