Thank you for focusing on base versions that are attainable by collectors. So often the focus is on the super rare autos worth thousands of dollars that 99% of collectors can’t afford or refuse to spend money on. This video was actually informative rather than just becoming a drooling session over “hope diamonds”. 😂😂😂
Outstanding Video. Future Hall of Famers are what I focus my card collecting on. Our lists are very similar. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the HOF potential in Yordan Alvarez, and his card prices are very affordable.
No, more than just the best get a boost. Harold Baines, Lee Smith and Tim Raines... They saw their cards increase in value. Not by a ton, but they DID go up. In fact, it is only with borderline guys where the increase makes any sense. Why should Mariano Rivera cards have increased when he got in? Not like it was up for debate. We all knew he was first ballot like a decade before he even retired. It was silly that when the obvious happened, it impacted pricing.
I'm surprised you would be worried about people's thoughts on your position for Mookie. The guy has about 70 WAR after his age 31 season, an MVP win and 3 seconds, 3 WS wins, and is a great positive team player. He's versatile enough to play any position on the field and has filled in wherever needed. All in all, when you said 100% chance, he was actually my first thought.
Great list Scott, I'm mostly in agreement on your tiers. Great to see Kyle Tucker get some love, I think this is the first time I've seen him on one of these lists and he's a sneaky good player with a decent shot to make the hall if he can have a 3-4 year peak of 7+ WAR a year. He hasn't done it yet but I think he has it in him and he'd still be in his early 30's after that peak to keep accumulating. I'd put Tucker as having a better chance to perform at an old age than most of these players due to body type and his type of play.
I have like 4 Jose Ramirez RCs (Topps Chrome) that I didn't even realize until a few months ago just sitting in with some commons. He has definitely been an under the radar type of player.
Great video and HoF chances breakdown. Due to the "Ohtani & Judge Era", will be tough to judge players for the HoF based on how many MVPs they win. Bobby Witt JR, for example, had a 9.4 WAR in 2024. Pretty much any other year in history ,before these two players came along, this would be a lock for MVP. 🤣 I guess it's like you pointed out though, how many top 5 MVPs they had, when applicable.
Hello Scottie, Great Video I have a few of these players cards Scherzer, Kershaw PSA 10'S,I hope Bregman has a good career along with a few more ofthese players Happy New Year bud🎉
Really solid job Scottie. You clearly put a lot of effort into this. The only thing I question is the importance/value of a World Series appearance/win in the calculation. Of all sports, I feel baseball is very team oriented and players like Ted Williams, Ken Griffey Jr..and Mike Trout can be amazing and never get a ring, and it’s not their fault.
Loved the video, Scott. I think we’d all agree that not all HOF’ers are created equally. There are players who, 10 or 15 years after induction, let’s say, will not be widely known by younger fans. And others, like Bonds, Griffey Jr. and most likely Ohtani, who will remain fixed in baseball media, the “conversation” as new and exciting players emerge. I wonder how the values of these HOF groups will diverge.
great video :) I could have fanboyed on Shohei Ohtani like most home runs all time for japanese born player, 50/50 club, only 3 time unanimous mvp. I'm not sure if you done it, but have you ever done a video on the most loaded rookie card set of all time? maybe even one of those tier ranking of rookies
Probably one of the years from 51-54(55)? 51 had Mantle, Mays and I believe Whitey Ford. 54 had Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks and Al Kaline. 55 had Harmon Killebrew, Sandy Koufax and Roberto Clemente. Hard to top those.
Fwiw (on how this translates to cards), Arenado cards are so much easier to move the Machado cards, people love him so much more. The prices also reflect that. Manny is lucky if his cards sell for 25% the value of a comparable Arenado card.
Sale really went from ‘borderline Strasburg situation’ to ‘ok, we can have the conversation’. Despite him being Age-36 next season, having less than 2,000 regular season IP could keep him fresh(er) for a late 30s boom. He already has his Cy Young (finally) and 8 Top-6 finishes ! If he passes 3,000Ks in the next 4 seasons (586 to go), it’s not even an if.
Great video Scott! I think you missed Marcus Semien though. If Altuve is 75%, Semien is at least 25%. 7 less WAR than Altuve but 1,500 less PA, higher WAR/162, aging well (last 3 years 17 WAR for Semien vs 11.6 for Altuve). Not saying he's in but is at least 25%
Doesn't have as many of awards or memorable moments (Altuve has 27 postseason homers #2 all time) as altuve. Comparing the last 3 years is just not fair considering Semien has missed 3 games and altuve has missed over 100. Not as good as altuve but could definitely make a case considering he is similar to Ichiro Suzuki offensively and people want him in unanimously.
Good video. I would take under 500 home runs for Aaron Judge, but he does have a strong HOF case. Another MVP or a World Series would seal the deal if he hasn't already.
I think he's basically a lock once he hits the ten year requirement. Two of the 20 greatest offensive seasons ever, his 62 homer season will carry him with the many who feel.he's the legit single season king.
Curious Scottie... i think i know your answer to this but I'll say Mookie instead of Ohtani 😂 Would you consolidate PSA10 Adrian Beltre & Barry Bonds rookie cards into a Mookie Betts PSA 10 rookie? For me, I'm debating doing that for Ohtani.
Some ‘cusp of even being the 25% guys, but it’s not impossible Scottie adds them in a future episode’ Edwin Diaz, Josh Hader and Emmanuel Clase. Diaz was on Kimbrel pace (losing 2023 might make all the difference in the long run), and Hader has his accolades (but still, they have 225 and 199 saves by Age-30 respectively). Behind them both, Clase has started fast (158 saves before Age 27 season) and if he can be around 250+ saves when he turns 30, could he get another 200-250 in his 30s, overtake Jansen & Kimbrel, maybe even knock off Lee Smith for 3rd All-Time ? Could Clase be the greatest closer not named Rivera or Hoffman ? If Clase gets to that 250SV/Age 30, he gets a 25% mark. The other one - have mentioned it on previous videos (and Spitballin’ Cards) - Aaron Nola. Age-32 next year, 6 more years under contract. 10 years in, 35.6 WAR, 1779Ks, 104 wins. He has time to accumulate BUT my worry is he’ll end up in the Dead Zone in that All-Time Strikeouts mark - #26-28 : Tanana, Cone and Finley. 2600-2700Ks for each, 3-5 All Stars, 57-62 WAR, Cy Young for Cone. When it came time for HOF voting : Tanana 0 votes (1999 ballot), Finley 1 vote (2008 ballot) and Cone 21 votes (2009 ballot)
I currently own one Chris Sale card that’s worth $130ish. That wouldn’t pursued me to hype one player over another. Full transparency however, I hope to get more soon if both players. As of right now, Sale has a much better HOF case in my eyes. For reference, here is a link that shows how Sale leads Cole in almost every stat: stathead.com/baseball/vs/gerrit-cole-vs-chris-sale? Both are good, but Sale is closer to the hall of fame as of right now. Cole is younger, but has work to do.
I didn’t include Xander, but I personally feel like he’s in the 25% range. He’s got a shot, but this last year really concerned me as he heads into his age 32 season.
How can you consider any sapphire cards for this video after all of the crap you give Topps for the proliferation of numbered color variations? I am sorry but no matter how good you think Topps Chrome Sapphire look, it's essentially like saying the best RC card is the /150 blue or something. Too few people have access to those (including Sapphire) for those to count as "the" RC to collect. If you go down that road, why say all of the gold chrome variations look the best? Because they mostly, do.

Scottie so in your opinion the days of needing 3000 or 500 to be a hall of famer are dead? Crazy to see most of these guys won't even reach 2500 or 400.

Trea Turner was coming off an injury, which is why his stolen bases were down. He can still run among the best of them. I doubt Turner makes the hall of fame either, but he's a very good player. Some of these guys you are judging way too early in their careers like Vlad Jr.. Not saying these guys won't make it but you should wait a while on them.
I dont need computer stats to tell me who belongs in the HOF. Freeman, Betts, Trout, and Arenado will make it. It's still too early on Soto and Ohtani. They need more dominant years. Thank you for showcasing some of the non Yacht owners cards. However, Sapphire cards are still too expensive especially 16 through 18 to own.

@@garygordon3075 Both Freeman/Harper will be HOF, I like both of them, but when comparing numbers against numbers, Judge is there, and will probably surpass both in numbers in the coming years. Judge has 3 years over 50 bombs, so he's not a fluke. Probably would have had it in 2023 if he wouldn't have gotten hurt, but still knocked 37 in 105 games. Freeman is clutch. Like him a lot.
