Matt use to play those Dean Dimebag guitars when he was younger & starting out on their Ember to Enferno & Ascendancy albums. When i use to go see them at Harpos in Detroit that's what Matt would be playing & he did use his black Epiphone guitar on some songs still then to but it was a majority of Dean Dimebag guitars.
And now his signature epiphone les paul looks absolutely stunning and top notch. Affordable, has every specification i want in a guitar, looks amazing and would give an some awesome vibe playing it \m/
Matt has said previously in interviews that his dad played guitar and that his dad always wanted a son who played a Les Paul so i think that maybe his dad and him shared it when he got it. I know my dad and i share some gear still, and I'm almost 19!
Corey is as Matt said himself 'Metal 24/7'. He's always wearing Death shirts in interviews paying respect to the legend of death metal, Chuck schuldiner :) If i remember correctly he said the first band he ever loved was Guns n roses.
Saw them live in July on the mayhem tour :) right before them in flames played and then like two seconds after they got done from my right I heard capsizing the sea start and then they walked out and started in waves. It was the coolest concert I have ever been to! Trivium is great live! I caught nicks stick and Matts pick :) lol
for everyone who somehow misunderstood them (idk how though lol)... pretty much their album rig was mainly matt's main old gibson through a maxod od 808 into a peavey 5150 head with mesa boogie rectifier and a mesa boogie traditional cabinets, corey's leads were a peavey 6534 head into the same stuff and a little eventide harmonizer
@abysslord16 Contract ended 2 years ago. They didn't renew it, probably cause Matt's guitar headstock sapped off when it fell over. I've seen £100 guitars fall over and not have a mark on them so they were probably making a wise move to get out.
His dad was a guitar player too so I think he just wanted the best for his kid. Even if Matt didn't keep playing it wouldn't have been a waste. Very glad he kept shredding though!
my parents felt the same way when I was around 13. I started playing a Fender when I was 9 and my parents liked my playing so much that they bought me an Ibanez Prestige guitar at 13. Hard work goes a long way.
@mrphilcollins obviously the epiphone is a lot cheaper because it's lower quality. I think if he's gonna make a signature guitar it should be the one he mainly plays. It's kinda phoney to put your name on a guitar that you're not going play or rarely play. That goes for any equipment endorsement. Someone else commented that they were endorsement whores, sounds about right...
To Pure Fucking Heavy Metal... Dave Mustaine moved from Jackson to ESP for a brief period then onto Dean simply because Jackson was going bankrupt, he offered to buy the company being such a long time endorsee, they refused and Fender bought them. In classic Mustaine fashion he said Fuck you guys and went somewhere else.
I haven't played either of these. I've never even seen a white Explorer other than in videos. The KH would be a safer bet and I'm sure it is cheaper. I'd pick the Explorer just because the Strat shape doesn't suit me very well. To be safe, try them both (at Guitar Center or something) and see which one you like better.
I just bought a Marshall jvm410. A small part of me is regretting not buying a Peavey 6505. Though the shop i got the Marshall head for $1600 and it's normally $2700. Hopefully the Marshall Head really does have a massive and present voice that cuts through in a mix.
i've decided how the fretboard plays will be the deciding factor. Played a friends explorer and the body balanced well. so the fretboard only matters now, i'll change the pickups anyway if i get the explorer.
I dont think we need to worry about his epi because I'm pretty sure whatever you saw or saw him play with were just prototypes which are always very plain! they're just supposed to 'work' then after the specs are settled they get into making it look good...it'll probably be a Les Paul with EMG's but a better neck and maybe a better cut-away at the back...
He said that it was his dads dream, before he was even born,to have a son that played a les paul custom,so his dad was probably like "TAKE THIS FUCKING GUITAR" XD
@bledboost i'm not saying anything different to you. i agree if you endorse something...you should use it. on one end its nice that players release epiphone versions as its way too expensive for the real thing and secondly the guitars are usually pretty good, just check out the joe bonamasa epiphone. on the other hand its easy to get the idea its a money spinner, good idea too as most trivium fans don't have money for high end guitars so making a signature les paul wouldn't benefit gibson.
@bledboost he's not saying he's going to drop using his les paul customs instead he's saying he wants to build a cheaper model that has good build quality that he could in theory use for performing. its cheaper also! think about it this way his signature epiphone will probably cost somewhere between 5 and 700 and a real gibson les paul custom starts off at around 3300 to 3500. so thats the point...unless you have 3500 lying around the house that is.
Ultimate metal guitar = Jackson Sl2HT soloist or Jackson KV2T King V. So yeah, i agree, but i personally prefer super strat guitars. King Vs are kickass as well
@SpawntheFuries Agreed. Ibanez sound way too treble-y to me, and personally I don't really like the necks if I'm playing one for a long time, cause I like a relatively chunky neck. I think Ibanez's cheap guitars are amazingly good quality though.
that epiphone signature things he said are so awesome ! I mean it's not usual that guitarists think like that - most of them use epiphones or something to smash 'em on stage or something , really cool that he thinks of US little guitarists sitting in our dark little rooms and practising to their tracks with no money to buy gibson customs and that shit. Thats a real Rocker-dude right there !.
Gibson and Jackson are the two best guitar manufacturers imo :) I love it when my friends tell me buying a Gibson Explorer was stupid and should have gone for ESP or Ibanez....if Gibson are that bad why is Matt Heafy using them ;D? If they're good enough for him, then they're good enough for me :D
Its mostly because they're made of basswood, the RG a S series models. For rhythm, they aren't all that good i my opinion, but for leads they work which is why guys like Satch and Steve Vai love them so much. I agree though, Ibanez makes some nice guitars, just not my thing, haha.
Maybe ESP, and the higher range LTDs. but after having owned a few low range LTDs, and owning a Gibson Les Paul Traditional with EMGs, i MUCH prefer my Gibson. Though, I do like ESPs too.
you're right 24 frets it's better than 22 ;) anyway the best guitar you could have is a signature..one guitar build for your hands and sound but it's expensive....
Are you sure dude? Jim Root strat/tele born to play metal. I've an american Strat and i put on it the emty blackouts Drop C tuning and it's fucking amazing sound and power. i'm lefty so i've a poor choice for guitats :( but one strat with others pickups can play metal bro \m/
@DeathMagneticX3 Yeah, I don't get that either. Jackson and Gibson are my favorite too, haha. I actually very much dislike Ibanez guitars, the necks are beautifully comfortable but there's just something about them that I really don't like tone-wise.
Matt's got a built in reverb pedal in his voice box.
Jolo Aquino sick I want that mod
The small green pedal. Yes, yes we know.
Peavey 6505, Maxon od808, Mesa 4x12 that has vintage 30 speakers in it. That right there is the key to life
To you, not to everyone though.
On my POD HD 500x combination of Peavey and Mesa cabinet delivers so much fuzz.. omg
Eye contact with Matt heafy is chilly
Matt use to play those Dean Dimebag guitars when he was younger & starting out on their Ember to Enferno & Ascendancy albums. When i use to go see them at Harpos in Detroit that's what Matt would be playing & he did use his black Epiphone guitar on some songs still then to but it was a majority of Dean Dimebag guitars.
It's more noticable when he's talking to someone with Matt who speaks so cleanly and quickly all the time.
And now his signature epiphone les paul looks absolutely stunning and top notch. Affordable, has every specification i want in a guitar, looks amazing and would give an some awesome vibe playing it \m/
I luv Coreys reaction to emg pickups :-D
Matt has said previously in interviews that his dad played guitar and that his dad always wanted a son who played a Les Paul so i think that maybe his dad and him shared it when he got it. I know my dad and i share some gear still, and I'm almost 19!

@FtaCapoeiraWoot Probably, but the axe fx can get valve sounds, have you heard periphery or red seas fires tones?
Les Paul Customer at 12??! WTF
I've had a LP Robot since 15 xD
I have an Ibanez RG2EX2 that I bought when I was 13. Still in good condition
for everyone who somehow misunderstood them (idk how though lol)... pretty much their album rig was mainly matt's main old gibson through a maxod od 808 into a peavey 5150 head with mesa boogie rectifier and a mesa boogie traditional cabinets, corey's leads were a peavey 6534 head into the same stuff and a little eventide harmonizer

For pickups, I'd recommend Seymour Duncan Blackouts. Corey uses them. I think EMG's just make guitars sound the same.
Nope
Thats cool matt is aware that some of us musicians are on a budget
heafy had a gibson custom when he was 12? fuck me dead, lad was spoiled
not really, he was talented as fuck as a kid so his parents probably wanted him to have better stuff to get better with
money well spent in my opinion
i remember him saying somewhere that his dad was a les paul player so he wanted to have matt play les pauls when he grew up
His dad was a guitar player too so I think he just wanted the best for his kid.
Didn't they refer to the OD808? I have that one.
It's always funny to watch Matt while Corey is talking :D
@mrphilcollins obviously the epiphone is a lot cheaper because it's lower quality. I think if he's gonna make a signature guitar it should be the one he mainly plays. @valdivia562 i wonder where you could have seen that, i might be wrong, but its not out yet as far as i know
@VersaFx when is it comming out???
what blackouts Corey use AHB-1,AHB-2 or AHB-3?
Wait digital processing unit?>
Is mat saying they use amp modelling?
Sick. Neck thru? cause a lot of kirk's models that are special edition are all bolt on and not as great overall.
They're talking about the Maxon OD808 overdrive if anyone is wondering about the "green one"
@tango616 could be OD9, OD 820 etc...
@ChaserHUN the same thing basically as the ibanez tube screamer ts808
I haven't played either of these. I've never even seen a white Explorer other than in videos. The KH would be a safer bet and I'm sure it is cheaper. I'd pick the Explorer just because the Strat shape doesn't suit me very well. To be safe, try them both (at Guitar Center or something) and see which one you like better.
Hmmmm...I'm wondering why they censored Matt talking about his Fractal Audio Axe-Fx.
I just bought a Marshall jvm410. A small part of me is regretting not buying a Peavey 6505. Though the shop i got the Marshall head for $1600 and it's normally $2700.
Hopefully the Marshall Head really does have a massive and present voice that cuts through in a mix.
@DeathPandaDanceParty no problem, i heard matt say what one it was in a video somewhere
torn between a kirk hammett ESP and a white explorer. any ideas?
What kind of les paul is that?
i've decided how the fretboard plays will be the deciding factor. Played a friends explorer and the body balanced well. so the fretboard only matters now, i'll change the pickups anyway if i get the explorer.
@FtaCapoeiraWoot Yea I figured that out about 5 minutes after i posted that. I don't know why they didn't record with it though.
What happened to Matt's his signature Dean ML? XD
@tango616 right, but I hope they would have remembered this one
Is that the Ouija one? that's like 9 grand? or that green one. Or another one completely.
@FtaCapoeiraWoot I'm assuming with their constant changes in endorsements they would rather just start keeping names out.
happy new year,everybody.
and what tuning did they use on the album ?
@HurricaneTBag matt used to but he's endorsing gibson now
I dont think we need to worry about his epi because I'm pretty sure whatever you saw or saw him play with were just prototypes which are always very plain! they're just supposed to 'work' then after the specs are settled they get into making it look good...it'll probably be a Les Paul with EMG's but a better neck and maybe a better cut-away at the back...
He said that it was his dads dream, before he was even born,to have a son that played a les paul custom,so his dad was probably like "TAKE THIS FUCKING GUITAR" XD
Maxon OD808?
@drawnacrol maybe a fractal, they're supposed to be amongst the best outhere
@bledboost i'm not saying anything different to you. i agree if you endorse something...you should use it. on one end its nice that players release epiphone versions as its way too expensive for the real thing and secondly the guitars are usually pretty good, just check out the joe bonamasa epiphone. on the other hand its easy to get the idea its a money spinner, good idea too as most trivium fans don't have money for high end guitars so making a signature les paul wouldn't benefit gibson.
was he talking about axe fx?
The amount of times Corey says "uh" is legendary.
I was just thinking this!
I remember seeing a JVM410H in their recent videos as well.
i cannot wait until Matt's signature guitar comes out
What ever happened to there indorsement with Dean???
I own the Kirk Hammet LTD, the limited edition one that came out last year- best choice of guitar i've ever made.
@trevwagner666 Thanks, I had narrowed down my list to the OD808 and OD9 but still wasn't sure :S
what happened to dean with these guys?
@decapitatedrathead Yep, they use axe-fx II live
@DeathPandaDanceParty Maxon od808, saw it on a gear page
@mouloudo true, but the 808 is the most popular one.
Ultimate metal guitar = Jackson Sl2HT soloist or Jackson KV2T King V.
So yeah, i agree, but i personally prefer super strat guitars. King Vs are kickass as well
I was right! Matt is using an Axe-FX live now. :D
@SpawntheFuries Agreed. Ibanez sound way too treble-y to me, and personally I don't really like the necks if I'm playing one for a long time, cause I like a relatively chunky neck. I think Ibanez's cheap guitars are amazingly good quality though.
Oh and Peavey 6505/5150 amps are the best too :D Trying to save for the 6505 212 combo....taking quite some time :P
has his signature guitar came out yet? anyone know?
that epiphone signature things he said are so awesome !
Awesome idea!!
@606wrath all Eb tuning with drop D
I have that same AILD shirt. Sweet
fender like gibson or jackson you can like it or not... aniway have you ever tried Jim Root strat..?? before try it and then let me know dude ^^
Im pretty sure they meant the Maxon OD808
" I need EMGs... He doesn't" Simply great
im sure that small green thing was an ibanez tube screamer
@softepic247 oh yeah lol you're right. i thought he had some former injury that made his hand do that.
White Explorer with Seymoure Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickups in bith positions, (If you want active ones take blackouts)
what is the matter with Matt when Corey's talking looks like he doesn't want him to speak
He always has that look.
That's just his resting bitch face
Guitar Time I was thinking the same shit
Gibson and Jackson are the two best guitar manufacturers imo :) I love it when my friends tell me buying a Gibson Explorer was stupid and should have gone for ESP or Ibanez....if Gibson are that bad why is Matt Heafy using them ;D? If they're good enough for him, then they're good enough for me :D

@hashibatune I miss it too. My damn friend got one a few months ago at guitarcenter for an ungodly good price
Matt's face expressions f****** funny
Matt HEafy!! LOVE U !! U ROCK
1:43 Axe Fx hmmm?
it was probably a Maxon OD808 fyi
1. Trivium 4 way tie for 2nd favorite bands. Lamb of god, Chimaira, As I Lay Dying, and In flames.
its it me or does Matt look like the guy from Inception?
I wish i could have gotten a Les Paul custom at the age of 12...
1:43 axe-fx hmm?
you're right 24 frets it's better than 22 ;) anyway the best guitar you could have is a signature..one guitar build for your hands and sound but it's expensive....
So many bands use Peavey 5150/6505 nowadays, bands need to get their hands on a Framus Cobra!!!
@forbiddensociety I love how they had to cut out actually saying AXEFX because Peavey would have a heartattack.
@PoetryEmotion94 i saw that too, then i figured out he hit the pick up selector
Are you sure dude? Jim Root strat/tele born to play metal. I've an american Strat and i put on it the emty blackouts Drop C tuning and it's fucking amazing sound and power. i'm lefty so i've a poor choice for guitats :( but one strat with others pickups can play metal bro \m/

Awesome! We're playing punk rock, but thats awesome!
jim root signatures... perfect for metal
Doesn't one of them endorse Dean guitars?
You know him do you?
Matt is always in this vest...
