4:08 You can do that with a spinning rod. If you hold the rod in your right hand, you can use your finger to feather the line coming off the spool. You gently rest your finger at the top of the spool and use it to slow down the line, and use pressure to stop it when you need to. If you're a lefty like myself who holds the rod in the left hand while casting, you use your other hand. After the cast, gently cup the spool with the right hand, not using quite enough pressure to slow down the line, until you want to. Then you just stop the line with your hand if you want to stop the cast.
It may seem a little awkward at first, but it's very easy and you can get the technique down pretty quick. Once I learned how to do this, I do it almost every cast now, it became second nature. I use it for normal casting and when I'm pitching/flipping with a spinning reel.

I feather the spool as well but it’s not as efficient as a baitcaster

Yeah you can literally do anything with spinning and mostly better. I have a Muskie spinning rod I have throw hudds on. Talking 6oz lures. They are the most universal fishing rods in the world. I like casting rods too. I was hoping to find good information on this video, it’s not great.

Lol. When I was 8 years old $30 would have bought me a rod, reel, line tackle Box, some tackle and still had money to buy penny bubble gums

Thanks Nathan. The one reel you don't set-up by slowly dropping a lure to the ground is the one you demonstrated with. Figures that's the only one you had left.
I am a Shimano fan but if I was to suggest a starter reel it would be the Abu black max. Very user friendly for about $50. That reel feels cheap but has great breaks, cast good and tougher than it feels.
The one thing I would stress is if you are right handed learn on a left hand reel and vise versa. I am right handed and learned both left and right. Left handed reels just make sense for right handers.

Highly recommend SLX XT. It's worth a few dollars more to be able to fine tune your breaking.

Great video, definitely do one on cleaning and regular maintenance of a bsitcaster like the slx and one for spinning reels as well.

@@319Bassin I'm aware, I misunderstood and thought that he was just getting sponsored for rods. My next guess would be Okuma

An wise old man told me once you spool up the reel with line pull out enough line for a far cast then take electrical tape go around the spool ounce then crank the line in then cast if you backlash it will only be the layer on top of the tape that's what helped me at the beginning

Standard SLX can now be found in clamshell packaging for 79.99 or the SLX XT at $130 if they have the extra cash
Lew's lfs is usually what I suggest for someone with a $100 dollar budget for a reel magnetic braking makes life simple and an extremely solid reel for the money
from Abu I suggest the revo sx over the $100 dollar mark but a fantastic reel

A couple suggestions, start with a weight that has mass. What I mean is it is easier to cast a 3/8 oz spinnerbait than a 3/8 oz casting plug. The spinnerbait won’t pull line off the spool as fast as the casting plug. Also, at first try casting using underhand pitches rather than overhead bombs. Think pitching a softball underhand rather than overhand. If your spool is set properly you won’t have to cast hard(spool moving fast) to get good distance on the cast. Also, use two hands on the rod for better control.

Abu’s Max STX is a great reel for the price.

Easiest way to learn bait casters…. Lock the breaks down… both of them drag and tension. Then slightly back off each slightly and you will find the sweet spot 👍🏾

I fish with Piscifun Phantom and Piscifun Carbon xcs reels ALL THE TIME. I like them more than any of my Shimano baitcasters. Really awesome reels for about 55 dollars incl shipping.

Which are better external brakes or internal and external brakes? I have both kinds but have not used the ones with both.

If it is in your budget find a baitcaster with a aluminum frame.

I'd completely disagree I feel to start out with a baitcaster Abu Garcia Black Max $40 maybe 50 at most cannot go wrong I have two of them learned on them and I would advise anybody to go that route then maybe $100 would be the next step

So all ur kistlers r gone, u talked me into buying 2 kistler rods and Reels, haven't even tried them yet, being a bait and tackle junkie isn't cheap. Also 3 NRXs with top of line reels and this year I stopped fishing tournaments, so where did u sell ur stuff at?

    • @nathanquincefishing7122
      @nathanquincefishing7122  ปีที่แล้ว

I sold them on my instagram they are already gone. I didn’t want to part ways with Kistler but unfortunately some stuff happened and that’s the way it worked out

I wouldn't buy any baitcaster under 80 dollars... you'll just be disappointed and/ or frustrated very quickly. Just from my experiences. Good luck and tight lines y'all!
