This game is what you get if you take Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and lock it onto Sonic & Knuckles. As the name suggests, what you get is simply Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Knuckles the Echidna as the playable character. The levels remain mostly unchanged, save for the addition of a few monitors that can only be reached as Knuckles, whose abilities from Sonic and Knuckles (gliding, climbing walls, and jumping a little lower than Sonic) remain intact.
In this run, you'll see the zones of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (colloquially referred to as West Side Island ( info.sonicretro.org/West_Side... ) in the Japanese manual) like you've never seen them before, as Knuckles uses every trick in the book to collect over five thousand rings, with only 11 throughout the game eluding his grasp. (For the time being, anyway...)

These videos are my favorite; the ones that aren't ONLY about speed, but include some sort of secondary goal that really push the creators into abusing the game to the fullest. It's very thoroughly enjoyable.
And you get to see more of the game too. Areas that are just skipped otherwise.

What rings didn't Knuckles get?
We collected 5163 out of 5174 rings as Knuckles in this game (99%). The difference of 11 rings consists of the following:
1 Ring stuck inside a column in Aquatic Ruin 2 that only 2P Tails out of camera can pick up.
10 Rings inside the walls of Casino Night 2 which are impossible to collect.
There is currently no known ways for Knuckles, Sonic or Tails to get any of these rings in Casino Night.
What 10 rings stuck in the walls of casino where are they in the walls?
Now Knuckles can pay his debts

I love how the perfect bonus thing is messed up in Casino Night. Like, presumably they never thought anyone would do it in that zone or something. This is a really neat TAS, it looks even cooler than the speedruns to be honest.

God Mode Knuckles in Oil Ocean 2 is quite possibly the single greatest thing I've ever witnessed in a Sonic game. The fact that it took him past a million points is just the icing on the cake.

Stacking the gravity glitch state in OOZ 2 had me in awe, and collecting the stuff stuck in the wall in MCZ 2. This is fantastic stuff.

There are a handful of acts where it's impossible to get the Perfect bonus because they accidentally left a few rings stuck in walls. Have fun with that...

That's not the point of these videos. I'm sorry you didn't find what you were looking for but your type of comments are tiresome. Doesn't make sense to attack what the video faithfully advertised.
Glitches were used, not debug mode. If debug mode was activated, then the score would look different. I don't doubt that you could collect every ring (that is possible for a human to collect) in the stage when you were 12. But this goes a step beyond by collecting most of the rings that are stuck in walls or out of bounds. The point of TAS is to go beyond human skill (Hence, Tool Assisted Speedrun). This means using programs to often execute extremely fast button presses and abuse physics and glitches that all have to be frame perfect. As for the invincibility issue you raised, I don't really see anything supporting that. Mind giving a time stamp?

I'm curious about the missing Perfect bonus on Aquatic Ruin 2. I know some rings are out of bounds, but as displayed in other levels, TAS can usually grab those pretty easily. Is it just not possible to get them all in that stage? I saw another video where someone did get Perfect on that stage, but they were playing with Sonic and Tails, so maybe Tails can do some offscreen sprite despawning or something that Knuckles alone cannot do?
edit: never mind, checked the link and read the runner's notes. I was right about only being able to get it off screen. Also, I apparently didn't notice the missing perfect on Casino Night 2. I guess no way to get out of bounds in that spot in Casino Night. Interesting stuff. Good run, by the way. Forgot to mention that. Very entertaining. ^_^
May Mabie For Aquatic Ruin, Pause at 11:20. There is a ring INSIDE the top of the pillar on the left. It is hard to see because it blocked by the leaves, but you can see it when the leaves are not in the way. That's the only uncollectible ring in Aquatic Ruin 2. It is possible to collect using debug mode, just not in legit gameplay.
Even TetraBitGaming thought it was impossible to get 300 rings outside of Casino Night Zone

Has anyone tried the origin versions version were you retain your ring count after each special stage. I was able to get around 4 and half hundred rings before I my timer had nearly run out.

I'd like to know what happened to Aquatic Ruin 2 and Casino Night 2. Where are the missing rings there?
During development of Sonic 2, the level layouts were modified over time and some of the developers forgot to relocate the rings to account for this, so some rings are stuck in walls, where they're often uncollectable
what about the BONUS stages?
