I hear you guys! I remember seeing Superman ( this one) at the movies back then. Man, that was so COOL to the 20th degree! I love how super man out smarted Zod. Plus, crushing that idiot villan's hand. Only Superman knows that place inside/out. His father constructed, through a blue print, the fortress of solitude, to fit his son's understanding. Lois gave a great knock down punch. 👊

Actually I never understood why Luther would decide to side with the villains against Superman. The only reason they did not kill him earlier in the movie is because they needed his help to find Superman. The moment Superman's powers are gone and he no longer is a threat for the villains, Luther would become an instant liability. Someone like Zod would kill him right there, knowing well that Luther, if spared, would cause trouble for him in the long run. So, the smart move for Luther would be to help Superman get rid of the villains, because Superman would never kill a human being, no matter how evil he / she is....

As a child of the 70's and 80's, I got the extreme pleasure of seeing 1 & 2 in the theaters. Although limited at the time by the technology available to them, these are, in my opinion, the two best super hero movies ever made. They showed just how great superhero movies can and should be; Solid script, good acting and continuity of the storyline. I know they don't have the special effects and CGI that DC and Marvel have now but without these two movies I don't think Marvel would have had the success it enjoys so much now. Truly remarkable movies.

To be clear,I DON'T condone hitting women but if she's an super-powered,evil alien villain who is part of a group that wants to take over the world, sure,I think using violence against her is acceptable! Ha! Ha! I think that qualifies as the right time for a man to start throwing punches at women...and I'm sure even OTHER women would agree! Ha! Ha!

I get that Superman was special, but I think you're viewing it with nostalgia. There is a huge appetite for superhero movies, provided they are good and satisfying; and there were less well received movies in every decade. Even the later Superman (Christopher Reeve) movies had lower ratings than the first few, IIRC.
I think it's a good thing there are more superhero movies - actors do age, so you don't get that same continuity if they're not on the screen with a new plot, and the movies need a reboot every decade. Also, it does help with tying in different superheroes like in Justice League and The Avengers - this allows them to have far bigger storylines and epics

I'm not a massive fan of Zack Snyders interpretation of Superman but I always find it hilarious how people lost their minds when Superman killed Zod by snapping his neck when he was actively trying to murder innocent civilians but nobody ever talks about this where Superman takes away his powers, effectively turning him into an average person, crushes his hand and then throws him into a crevice to his death when he's already in agonizing pain

@fivestarman5130 Great post. I would like to add that I assume Stamp's Zod (which emodied so well the Silver Age villain which was the refernece at the time) and Zone mates died falling into the crevice. Very anti climatic ending for a great villain and his posse. Too good of a villain to not have as recurring. So Snyder doing the same but different I never understood the hate and criticism if that is how it was done in SM II. However those people's reference of Zod was Post Infinite Crisis, and Zod was reintorduced and a main villain of SM and was not killed off but always sent to the PZ, and those who remembered Silver Age (Pre Crisis OIE) Zod, never saw that happen either. So there is that. But if the crevice was not deep (foggy so you don't know) they could have survived, lingering as mere humans to find a way to reactavte their powers again (which is what happened when they tried to reintroduce Zod after Post Crisis OIE).

I was 11, and I noticed it, too, but it just didn't register until the hand-crunch. It's funny what we notice as kids and what we don't. Like, I understood that New York might not be the only city with a "Times Square," but wait a minute, what are the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center and (it played a part in this movie) the Empire State Building doing in Metropolis?
My first Superman was the cartoon version on Super Friends, voiced by Danny Dark. And I noticed that their version of Robin sounded just like Shaggy on Scooby-Doo. That taught me to read the credits, and, sure enough, Casey Kasem did both.

@@johnhyout Not necessarily. If Zodd had simply listened in to the conversation, he may have been fooled but he may have also assumed that it was a set-up because Superman knows Zodd has super hearing and might therefore have expected that Zodd would be listening. The whole point of the scene was supposed to be that Superman acts like he is trusting Luthor but in reality counting on Luthor to betray him. But that's also why the scene never made any sense to me. Since Superman's enemies all had super hearing and Superman was well aware of that, the whole "whispering a secret to Lex" concept never really made any sense.
