I genuinely need to thank you in behalf of so many of us who wouldn't be playing sims 2 if it wasn't for you and your videos. You made the game so much accesible for new people, and it was possible for me to relive my joy as a kid with the game but now as an adult with a modern computer. Seriously, thank you
You may mention it somewhere in the video that I missed (I skimmed bits) but you can easily update your default replaced thumbnails by ctrl-right clicking on them. Then they’ll actually display the new hair/clothes/whatever rather than the original EA one!
@@simulationprincess I think the only menu it doesn't really work in is the buy clothes windows, like if you go to a shop! But inside CAS and build/buy it should work!
also, deleting the thumbnails cache also works to update all thumbnails at once. it will make the first time loading clothes/genetics a bit slower, but its only for the first time that the game is generating the new thumbnails

Just something small I noticed when you were explaining the Decorative Parking Spots mod: There’s 3 download options, you said to download the bottom 2, but you actually have the 1st and 3rd option. The 2nd option is downloaded in addition to 1 and 3 if you don’t have any EPs after Nightlife. If you only have Nightlife, or Nightlife and Uni, download all 3. If you have any expansion(s) after Nightlife only download option 1 and 3: “MUST-HAVE-NIGHTLIFE-maxis-ownable-cars” and “Decorative-parking-space” I’m sure anyone following along made sure to read them to be sure, but figured I’d add a comment in case someone gets confused.

Sorry, I feel like I have to correct your genetics section: Your Sims will NOT all have black or brown hair if you play long enough - that's a myth that keeps going around because people do not understand how dominant and recessive genes work. The reason they have dominant and recessive genes in the first place is to prevent this from happening! (I believe Marticore has also made a video where she busts that myth) For example, two brown haired Sims can still have blond children if both of the parents have a recessive gene for blond hair and pass it on. "Dominant" does not mean that this gene will ALWAYS be passed down instead of the recessive one, it only means that it is the one that will show on the Sim.
Yes! That is why İ do not use that, it is realistic to me that most of my sims are actually brunettes and brown eyed, that is just how real life is too.
Yeah I don't know why people always say this!! It might be true that you'll have more sims with dominant genes in say, your second generation. But just like in real life, where blond haired people still exist even though brown is dominant lol, the genetics will still be varied because the sims will carry their recessive genes!

I can't believe I just watched a one hour video on sims 2 mods but I did. Wanted to play sims 2 because there were tons of pop ups of sims 4 vs sims 2 stuff, simply because I played sims 4. I'm a gen z-er so some of these mods were made even the year before I was born! Thought I'd try my hand on sims 2 but dang! The graphics were pretty much ancient! Watched your tutorial on how to fix the performance and all and now I'm here to upgrade the aesthetics. I'm not meant to do this in a span of one day but I'm just excited to play sims 2
You’re an absolute angel! In February I got a new laptop and I went thru so many tutorials to make Sims 2 run, but at the end my game was stuck in 640x400 so I got frustrated and deleted everything related to Sims 2, I spent many days trying to fix that issue and I was unable to do it. Your tutorials are a godsend, will try to follow every instruction from the very beginning, especially because I got my Sims 2 installer from a very suspicious page. Again, you’re incredible for doing this, I’m sure I was doing something wrong before because I got confuse with the amount of information I got from different tutorials and guides.

I was having such a hard time following along but I finally got reshade to work! I was missing the George patch so the launcher wouldn’t load the game but I finally got it to work. The whole video after that was a breeze. Thank you so much for posting this! My computer can’t handle the sims 4 with all the must have mods and I can’t play the game without them so I gave up. But now I can indulge in the sims 2 since it runs smoothly on my pc!

I already had most of my stuff default replaced (and omg it's a neverending journey) but I was intimidated by all the Reshade tutorials I found and didn't really understand how it worked so I'll follow through yours, thank you!! 🥰 Some useful alternate options for people who might want something a little different, on the UI part: if you like the old UI but want the widescreen CAS / change appearances window there are mods for just making those bits widescreen (Chris Hatch made it I think); if you want a darkmode version of Clean UI it exists and it's called Starship UI; and if you don't want to have *no* pause frame but you don't like the big ugly red one, there is a mod called "pause overlay replacement" that just replaces it with a tiny white clock symbol, I just like to have something visual that shows if the game is paused :) BTW I always thought the green baby bottles were supposed to show that like... sims don't have humans' anatomy so the milk isn't white, it's green like a plumbob LOL... after all, they did take the breastfeeding option out of the game unless you add it back in with a mod 😂
Oh god I usually skip out on mods if they look too complicated to install like the skybox one, but now I regret how much time I went without it out of laziness because you made it so easy for me lmao
I used to be an avid Sims 2 player for years, and was using default replacements of all kinds ever since my late teens half my life ago. I have grown to really enjoy The Sims 4 though despite all the negative feedback it's been getting, and I'm honestly so glad all the graphics feel so fresh and modern and I don't have to fiddle with all those upgrades anymore. Great video though, a really valuable resource for anyone looking to refresh their game's look and feel.
Sims 2 has 3d lashes made for it i used to use it back in the day they were in the glasses category im sure if you look around, you'll find them. My biggest loss ever was losing my original 20 gig cc folder from when i played sims 2
I played the heck out of Sims 1, Sims 3 and Sims 4. I have modded sims 3 and sims 4 to death and have started making both CC and Mods for Sims 4 (bad ones, it's great). That is to say, I'm definitely at least one notch higher than ''doesn't work'' on the modding knowledge scale. But Sims 2..... it's not the complexity, it's the god damn reading - and assumed knowledge. No shade to anyone, it's completely on me, the resources and guides are fully available. I just open them and stare blankly. Anyway, THE POINT IS, thank you so much for this massive, maaaasive series. I can't imagine how many hours and days were actually spent on each video and each step. Just incredibly hard work and dedication to helping us dip our toes in this game! You are a hero and a blessed gift!
really, really thankful for this video series. after two years of working just fine, the sims 2 crapped out on me yesterday. i was frantic trying to fix it; i permanently deleted some saves that i thought i had backed up and reinstalled the game three whole times before i remembered that you made this video series. my game is fixed now thank god. i thought it was gonna be permanently broken there for a minute LOL thank you so much!

Maddy, I just have to say, I would not be able to play Sims 2 or Sims 3 the way I like if it wasn't for your most helpful videos. I'm 54, mother of 2, and started playing Sims 2 when my boys were young and they were playing PSPs, GameBoys, or console games. I eventually moved on to Sims 3 and they started playing League of Legends, and Minecraft when it was released. By 2008-2010, with my boys and their friends encouragement, I myself switched to playing World of Warcraft & League of Legends as well. I stopped playing Sims 3 altogether by 2013 and my last EP, at the time, was University which I hardly played at all. My youngest started playing Sims 4 but I have never played it because it looked too cartoonish to me and I felt Sims 2 gameplay was the best, while Sims 3 technically looked the best. Then Covid happened, and my oldest got base game Sims 3 from Steam and then came over to get all my old EPs so he could upgrade it for free since he knew I had it. Made me think about the game again and so I downloaded Evansdale County world, got the last 2 EPs and started playing Sims 3. But after so many years, and replacing TWO computers where my Sims games were not even downloaded onto, I lost all my CC AND I forgot all the mods and cheats I used to use, PLUS, I didn't get all the quality of life stuff that was being done between 2013 -2016, which there is a LOT. Needless to say, it was a daunting idea of having to sift through the entire WWW to REfind everything and figure out the new stuff as well, and try to REMEMBER how I did everything before. YES, there are so many creators that deserve so much praise, and I bow down to all their expertise.... BUT.... you are like the Executive Assistant every Creator and Client NEEDS!! You compiled and directed all this DATA into user-friendly files with 'User Manuals' 'Video Tutorials' that takes away all the HOURS and HOURS everyone of us would have to go through ourselves to get us back to the START of where we were YEARS AGO when we were actively playing these games. THANK YOU, thank you, thank you for doing this yeoman's task and providing us with a One-Stop-Shop for everything Sims 2 and Sims 3. You are absolutely a Time Saving Fairy that deserves as much accolades as those creators that created the mods we use on the regular deserve. 🙏😁😊
With default replacements, just like anything else placed in your Downloads folder, it's all about the load order. The last one loaded will trump all others.

tysm I've just followed the reshade tutorial and it still works as of May 2023! the only difference was the extension file that generated after installing the reshade program was called something different, it was a different jumble of letters for me so I'd recommend anyone make note of the files already in that folder before you install the reshade program so you know which one is the new one that you need to rename!

BUT the hair, skin and eyes YES! they all look so much better now, I will continue with the rest, but for now great Tutorial in doing all this, so easy to follow! Thanks again!!! :)
Wonderfull vid. On defaults, the last one to load will show. So, if you put in defaut hair a and for the same maxis-hair you put in hair z, hair z will show. That goes for any and all defaults.

There‘s super long lashes in the sims 2 creator when altering eye shapes. They will come with that specific eye shape once incorporated into the game, but the added make up should not alter the lash length after.
I follow you for Sims 3 and now I'm getting nostaglia for Sims 2. If I can get it to play nicely with my computer I might go play for awhile because back then I could afford EVERY EP (unlike with Sims 4).

I wanted to reach out and say 1) I have used this guide many times over the last few months to not only get Sims 2 working on my computer but also my friends, and I am so thankful this exists!! 2) I wanted to ask what settings you use for the most optimal visual experience when it comes to the UI text on the larger resolution size. Even with glasses, the text is so hard to read and it makes playing the game more frustrating than fun recently...
I assume you had a 4K monitor. Unfortunately, there isn’t any work around. You can downscale your monitor in Windows settings, but then it will be blurry
@@acottonsock Okay, after lots of trial and error, I managed to get my game to a good level by making the game "full screen" in RPC and then editing the resolution to one that fit the screen. Thankfully, there is no blur!

Hey Madi! I haven't seen anyone else in the comments with this question so I figured I would ask. With ReShade, everything seems to be working but when I go to the graphics settings in-game the Smooth Edges section is greyed out and I can't adjust it. Is there a quick fix for this or did I mess up somewhere? Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos! I'm currently watching your Life is Strange stream at the same time while working on this lol
Well reshade isnt taxing. Its mainly certain effects. That said you probably shouldnt use it if you have a weak computer or graphics card. Also I STRONGLY advice using the dxvk method for sims 2. You just test game and computer works with dxvk then do dxvk method for reshade.

I was having such a hard time following along but I finally got reshade to work! I was missing the George patch so the launcher wouldn’t load the game but I finally got it to work. The whole video after that was a breeze. Thank you so much for posting this! My computer can’t handle the sims 4 with all the must have mods and I can’t play the game without them so I gave up. But now I can indulge in the sims 2 since it runs smoothly on my pc!

Some useful alternate options for people who might want something a little different, on the UI part: if you like the old UI but want the widescreen CAS / change appearances window there are mods for just making those bits widescreen (Chris Hatch made it I think); if you want a darkmode version of Clean UI it exists and it's called Starship UI; and if you don't want to have *no* pause frame but you don't like the big ugly red one, there is a mod called "pause overlay replacement" that just replaces it with a tiny white clock symbol, I just like to have something visual that shows if the game is paused :)
BTW I always thought the green baby bottles were supposed to show that like... sims don't have humans' anatomy so the milk isn't white, it's green like a plumbob LOL... after all, they did take the breastfeeding option out of the game unless you add it back in with a mod 😂
Oh god I usually skip out on mods if they look too complicated to install like the skybox one, but now I regret how much time I went without it out of laziness because you made it so easy for me lmao
I used to be an avid Sims 2 player for years, and was using default replacements of all kinds ever since my late teens half my life ago. I have grown to really enjoy The Sims 4 though despite all the negative feedback it's been getting, and I'm honestly so glad all the graphics feel so fresh and modern and I don't have to fiddle with all those upgrades anymore. Great video though, a really valuable resource for anyone looking to refresh their game's look and feel.

Sims 2 has 3d lashes made for it i used to use it back in the day they were in the glasses category im sure if you look around, you'll find them. My biggest loss ever was losing my original 20 gig cc folder from when i played sims 2
I played the heck out of Sims 1, Sims 3 and Sims 4. I have modded sims 3 and sims 4 to death and have started making both CC and Mods for Sims 4 (bad ones, it's great). That is to say, I'm definitely at least one notch higher than ''doesn't work'' on the modding knowledge scale. But Sims 2..... it's not the complexity, it's the god damn reading - and assumed knowledge. No shade to anyone, it's completely on me, the resources and guides are fully available. I just open them and stare blankly.
Anyway, THE POINT IS, thank you so much for this massive, maaaasive series. I can't imagine how many hours and days were actually spent on each video and each step. Just incredibly hard work and dedication to helping us dip our toes in this game! You are a hero and a blessed gift!

really, really thankful for this video series. after two years of working just fine, the sims 2 crapped out on me yesterday. i was frantic trying to fix it; i permanently deleted some saves that i thought i had backed up and reinstalled the game three whole times before i remembered that you made this video series. my game is fixed now thank god. i thought it was gonna be permanently broken there for a minute LOL thank you so much!

Maddy, I just have to say, I would not be able to play Sims 2 or Sims 3 the way I like if it wasn't for your most helpful videos. I'm 54, mother of 2, and started playing Sims 2 when my boys were young and they were playing PSPs, GameBoys, or console games. I eventually moved on to Sims 3 and they started playing League of Legends, and Minecraft when it was released. By 2008-2010, with my boys and their friends encouragement, I myself switched to playing World of Warcraft & League of Legends as well. I stopped playing Sims 3 altogether by 2013 and my last EP, at the time, was University which I hardly played at all. My youngest started playing Sims 4 but I have never played it because it looked too cartoonish to me and I felt Sims 2 gameplay was the best, while Sims 3 technically looked the best. Then Covid happened, and my oldest got base game Sims 3 from Steam and then came over to get all my old EPs so he could upgrade it for free since he knew I had it. Made me think about the game again and so I downloaded Evansdale County world, got the last 2 EPs and started playing Sims 3. But after so many years, and replacing TWO computers where my Sims games were not even downloaded onto, I lost all my CC AND I forgot all the mods and cheats I used to use, PLUS, I didn't get all the quality of life stuff that was being done between 2013 -2016, which there is a LOT.
Needless to say, it was a daunting idea of having to sift through the entire WWW to REfind everything and figure out the new stuff as well, and try to REMEMBER how I did everything before. YES, there are so many creators that deserve so much praise, and I bow down to all their expertise.... BUT.... you are like the Executive Assistant every Creator and Client NEEDS!! You compiled and directed all this DATA into user-friendly files with 'User Manuals' 'Video Tutorials' that takes away all the HOURS and HOURS everyone of us would have to go through ourselves to get us back to the START of where we were YEARS AGO when we were actively playing these games. THANK YOU, thank you, thank you for doing this yeoman's task and providing us with a One-Stop-Shop for everything Sims 2 and Sims 3. You are absolutely a Time Saving Fairy that deserves as much accolades as those creators that created the mods we use on the regular deserve. 🙏😁😊
With default replacements, just like anything else placed in your Downloads folder, it's all about the load order. The last one loaded will trump all others.

tysm I've just followed the reshade tutorial and it still works as of May 2023! the only difference was the extension file that generated after installing the reshade program was called something different, it was a different jumble of letters for me so I'd recommend anyone make note of the files already in that folder before you install the reshade program so you know which one is the new one that you need to rename!

For anyone who wants a reshade preset that is easier on the eyes than "turniphead", I'd highly suggest "long distance winner".

Wonderfull vid. On defaults, the last one to load will show. So, if you put in defaut hair a and for the same maxis-hair you put in hair z, hair z will show. That goes for any and all defaults.

There‘s super long lashes in the sims 2 creator when altering eye shapes. They will come with that specific eye shape once incorporated into the game, but the added make up should not alter the lash length after.
I follow you for Sims 3 and now I'm getting nostaglia for Sims 2. If I can get it to play nicely with my computer I might go play for awhile because back then I could afford EVERY EP (unlike with Sims 4).

I wanted to reach out and say 1) I have used this guide many times over the last few months to not only get Sims 2 working on my computer but also my friends, and I am so thankful this exists!! 2) I wanted to ask what settings you use for the most optimal visual experience when it comes to the UI text on the larger resolution size. Even with glasses, the text is so hard to read and it makes playing the game more frustrating than fun recently...
I assume you had a 4K monitor. Unfortunately, there isn’t any work around. You can downscale your monitor in Windows settings, but then it will be blurry

@@acottonsock Okay, after lots of trial and error, I managed to get my game to a good level by making the game "full screen" in RPC and then editing the resolution to one that fit the screen. Thankfully, there is no blur!

Hey Madi! I haven't seen anyone else in the comments with this question so I figured I would ask. With ReShade, everything seems to be working but when I go to the graphics settings in-game the Smooth Edges section is greyed out and I can't adjust it. Is there a quick fix for this or did I mess up somewhere? Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos! I'm currently watching your Life is Strange stream at the same time while working on this lol

Well reshade isnt taxing. Its mainly certain effects. That said you probably shouldnt use it if you have a weak computer or graphics card. Also I STRONGLY advice using the dxvk method for sims 2. You just test game and computer works with dxvk then do dxvk method for reshade.
