Just a gentle reminder that I make these guides as accessible and palatable to everyone as possible, no matter your experience with The Sims 2. I’m in my 3rd rotation, and I simply gave up on university.
I used the shorter university mod, but it’s too much (not to mention I play to escape real life university stress 😂).
What I do now,
- teens in the same generation are compiled in the same household using the “send to university option” in the neighbourhood mode.
- All my sims are added into one house, with ACR dealing with romances “I do not force any relationship, unless It’s a weird situation especially with cousins and the game not recognising it”.
- majors are selected based on the sim’s want.
- skill are randomised, random 0-5 number for selected skill,
1- Knowledge sims: mechanical, logic and cleaning
2- fortune sims: charisma, logic, and cleaning.
3- family sims: cooking, cleaning and mechanical.
4- romance, popularity or pleasure sims: charisma, body and creativity.
Then using (semester tester) I set them to “graduate” and send them back to the neighbourhood.
As for financing, I follow your method of 10K loan and scholarships.
Nevertheless, your tutorials are great to follow.
I know a lot of people feel that way, but personally I cannot wait to play my university rounds, I love them!
I also feel that University can be extremely monotonous at times. 😭

i like how paid or free university correlates to everyone's life experiences really. i'm from russia, my system is what i experience irl, it is combined, there are some sims who have their education supported by government (exceptional grades, top level of some teen careers like military or medicine, orphaned sims), but others have to pay for their educations, either for themselves or with the help of their parents
Your videos have been so helpful for me getting back into playing the sims 2 - from how to actually download the game, to mod suggestions etc.

When it comes to simulating the age gaps, i usually just play the sim for a however many days older they are before starting the next round of rotations.
For example, Angela joined uni 2 days before the round ended, but Lilith simply aged up to an adult. As a result, by the time the round ends, Lilith is now 2 days older than Angela. What I would then do is when Angela graduates I would play her for 2 days and the continue with the next round of rotations as normal.
That's what I've been doing too- it's a lot simpler for me

I know it's a very unpopular opinion, but I really don't like using this 8 day university mod. Your sims can barely enjoy what university has to offer. What I did was chance the lifespam of the other lifestages to make it longer (adults now live for 100 days). I'm also thinking about downloading a 16 day university mod I've seen a long time ago on Mod The Sims.
With things like this you could just use headcanon and treat University as a closed point in time within a Sim year. This helps get around timeline jank like going to Buisness Community Lots, having time pass 12 hours, only to return back to the home and repeat the past 12 hours.

Am I the only one that thinks that the 72 hour clock goes by too fast? My Uni rounds never grow old (even though I have been playing since it launched).
Nah I'm the same! 8 days would be too much of a rush for me.
So interesting the way you pick different Universities depending on Which Family you're playing!!!!! I'm definitely starting to do that... Btw, that's something that I always forget, Sim State University is meant to be a "cheaper, but with less quality" university in The Sims 2, thankfully this is just a matter of imagination, because... Where I live is the opposite, Colleges that are private are USUALLY (not a rule) lower in quality than state ones, so, I always saw UNESIM (That's the name in the language I play on) as a very "hard to get in" Uni, where you must get great grades in your high school or you'll never make it

I find managing University difficult. Specifically because there are too many townies/dormies to age up and keep track of. I don't like my sims out-aging townies. It's so easy for sims to go to university, graduate, have a kid and then the kid ends up at university with the same townies!! I decided in my gameplay rules that I'd treat university more like sims 4. For me, the 'young adult' life stage just means 'student'. That way, it doesn't matter how old they are, and I don't have to track their age compared to my sims. I can age them up and then just add days on to their life stage, or make use of the birthday townie age up feature, and they can become elders. That does mean some sims will theoretically spend their entire adulthood milling around at university with the a teen voice.. but that doesn't bother me as much as having to track them by age would
There's mods to help with that, actually! There's a mod to stop dormies and townies from spawning and there's also Story Progression, which works like in The Sims 3,so everyone will age and you don't need to keep track of people!

Well, as for Story Progression, you could always just turn off everything and just use it for aging and the time synchronization!

@@halpyhal I'm using it and a bunch of other mods without an issue, so I guess it's different for everyone, and I do have a mod for a different lifespan

Just a question: ia there a particular reason why you don't use "collegw tuition and student loans" by kestrellyn? I used to use the loan jar too but that mod was a game changer for me.
I don’t remember the exact reason, but PleasantSims mentioned awhile ago that it didn’t work for her so I think I just never gave it a shot. 🤔
I don't understand what is the reason to use the loan jar instead of Hacked Computer loan system?

What if a Sim fears being on academic probation? Or fears failing out of college? Would you use that to let them pass?

I don't know how to play rotation, like how many sim days do I play a certain family?
How many as you want to, just make sure to play everyone the same amount so their ages stay in sync.
I personally changed the default length of seasons to four days and play them for that long.
I do each season as a rotation :) so when summer ends I go to the next family and so on
i do a week each (7 days) :)
One rotation = one season (for me!)
