    I can see why someone who has a regular awning mounted on their truck might also want to buy this. Sometimes you park places where you don't necessarily plan to stay but you want some shade so you pop out your regular awning but if you do plan to camp for the night you can attach this baby here and have your setup all on one side of the vehicle. Plus if we're to rain you have stay dry and get into your tent.

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always wanted to put an awning on my truck but it would be on the driver side and I spend all my time on the passenger side and that is the way the tent opens to so I decided to add the tent awning to expand that area. I am still wanting a 270 degree awning but just haven't pulled the trigger on it for some reason. Maybe I never will, but I do like having that extra coverage. These are serious first world problems I recognize :)

    Good stuff. Looks like the iKamper may be decent for the Pacific NW where I find myself now. Grew up in Monument, CO and remember Phantom Canyon down south well. Thx!

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d imagine it would work really well up there. I’ve yet to visit the PNW but I’m definitely planning a trip up there in the spring. Is that a good time to explore ho there? Would summer be better? Thanks for the comment! Yeah Phantom canyon is a cool loop with some incredible views.

    • @thunderfromsea
      @thunderfromsea 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UrbanArmed spring would be pretty rugged up in the Ho Rainforest/Olympic Peninsula. It never really gets too cold along the coast, just damp chill, so that’s an ok shoulder season for visiting. The only drawback would be that the road up to Hurricane Ridge (Obstruction Point Rd) usually opens late June or July 4 weekend. It’s truly stupendous up there and worth the visit. Personally, I think Sept and very early Oct (if you can plan that) are the best times to visit WA & OR. It’s after the summer tourist season so backroads are light, lots of primitive camp spots to choose, and the rains usually don’t pick up until mid Oct. Enjoy!

    Dumping my SB Gen 1 soon for a mini 2.0. Can’t wait! I love rooftop tents, but it sucks if you want to go for a drive while leaving camp set up. Or have an emergency….. “let me just take down my tent real quick” 😂

    • @Lotusutra1
      @Lotusutra1 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's raining your not going to leave camp. You've been driving all day and then make camp. I don't think you'll want to drive any more. His camp is very quick to pack up if you do want to go. I think RTT is very practical. I love his set up. I love his chair. It's heavier but looks very comfortable. I think it's a great choice.

    Digging the chill vid. Looks like a nice and simple set up (at a cost, I'm debating if ikamper is worth cost over roofnest or tuffstuff)

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate that! It's always hard to speak on the "worth" because everyone has a different thresh-hold and budget. I really considered the roofnest and for me what I was wanting was something very fast to setup and tear down given I often go for quick one nighters or I'm on a multi day trip and moving to a new spot the next day. I will say I do sacrifice a little comfort and space to be small and quick. So just weigh out the pros and cons and think about the future of how you will use it.

    • @steelontarget
      @steelontarget 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UrbanArmed budget isn't an issue. I have the Falcon Pro in my cart and that's $4,200 for a smaller tent than this but almost instant set up and since I live in the desert, I feel aluminum is better suited for my applications. Decisions decisions.

    Nice review, I'm sold on the iKamper Mini RTT awning! I have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Been looking at 270 awning options. But decided to back out, since they don't provide protection against rain/snow due to the tent facing the passenger side, and because they're add too much weight to the top of the Jeep. BTW, I almost bought a Tacoma, might want to look at Goose Gear rear seat delete. :)

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I can say that the iKamper is so much easier to manage because it is lighter, makes it so much easier for me to take off and put on. It’s also a lot lighter on the vehicle which is nice. I have seen those goose gear setups and it’s on my list, they’re just a little pricey but I do plan to do some kind of rear delete. It’s funny because I always wanted a keep too 🤪

    Just a quick question, do you or are you able to leave your bedding inside this tent once packed up

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeffrey, good question. I'm not able to keep the bedding in there, it's a fairly tight tolerance with just the mattress in there. A sheet or a thin blanket might be ok, I actually tried to keep my wool blanket in flattened out and it definitely made it hard to close. I wouldn't plan on keeping much in there at all with this particular tent.

  • @WilliamValenti
    @WilliamValenti 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I found it pretty tough to stow the Mini after a night of rain. The tolerances of the shell don’t really accommodate folding up wet tent. Did you have any challenge after all that rain?

    • @UrbanArmed
      @UrbanArmed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't bad for me really at all, the fun part was airing it all out after I got home, but the awning dried out in like 10 minutes and the tent didn't take that long in the sun. I didn't have any issues stowing it wet though...

    • @UrbanArmed

      It definitely makes it a lot easier to level it out but you can also use rocks or logs if you're camping in an area that has them. I sometimes will use a big rock but the blocks just make it super easy.
