    HEALTHY GRANOLA BAR RECIPE
    Ingredients:
    2 cups rolled oats (180g)
    1 cup almonds (140g)
    1/2 cup date paste (150g)
    1/4 cup unsweetened peanut butter (65g)
    2 oz organic dark chocolate (50g)
    Preparation:
    The first step is optional, but it adds extra flavor. In a skillet add the rolled oats and previously chopped almonds. Toast for 5-10 minutes gently stirring or shaking the pan. Let cool a bit.
    In a large bowl, add the sweet paste made of dates (or other dried fruits), toasted oats and almonds, unsweetened peanut butter (or other nut butter of your choice) and melted dark chocolate.
    Using your hands mix all the ingredients together, until it becomes sticky. If you think the mixture is dry add some water.
    Line your 8 by 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
    Transfer the mixture to the pan, layer a piece of parchment paper on top and press into the bottom of the pan. Press it well with your hand or some jar.
    Place it in the fridge to chill for at least 2 hours, or overnight, to give oats time to soak up the moisture.
    Using a sharp knife cut into 10 or 12 bars.
    Enjoy!

    Made the fruit paste out of raisins, apricots and dates as I had a little of each but not enough of just one type! Turned out great, as always. I'm impressed that even though I can't usually bake to save my life, your recipes always turn out great! They're so foolproof and quick, I made this when I got in from work and will be taking a slice (or 2) with me every day as an energy boost. Thanks again 🤤👍

    I made this recipe for the second time and adapted it a bit more on this occasion. I included a large fresh 'easy-peel' satsuma. I accidentally found that It was far quicker and much easier to scrape off the pith from the peel to get the zest than it was to finely grate the zest while it was still on the fruit. I think this was because it was a satsuma, having much softer peel and pith compared to an orange. I added the zest strips and satsuma segments to the blender, together with the softened dates and it easily made a great smooth paste. I then added chopped dried apricots and desiccated coconut (instead of the chopped nuts), oats, melted milk chocolate (instead of plain) and peanut butter to the food mixer. The recipe came out brilliantly and it was really fresh and fruity tasting. Another great success due to your original inspiration and I appreciate you very much indeed, Sascha.

    They charge so much at shops while you can make them at home simple for cheap oats are super cheap dates one box of Persian dates of 500 grams is no more than 2 Euro and little bit of peanut butter which is cheap too, crazy 😜 and so much more fun to make it at home

    Hi Shasha,
    I simply love your recipes and did try couple of them at home..
    I just need 1 suggestion from you, since me and my family are vegetarians... Can you let us know what can we use instead of Eggs..
    Basically we want replacement of eggs as we don't consume them.
    Will be highly greatful to you.
    Love from India...

      @HowToCookSmarter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there Anand! Thanks for your feedback! I'm truly happy my recipes work for you and your family! Talking about egg substitutes, well, for most of my recipes I would suggest using applesauce or flax egg. Do you have something you've been using instead of the eggs so far?

    • @anandmalkan
      @anandmalkan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowToCookSmarter
      Hi Shasha,
      Thanks for your response...
      So in terms of substitute for eggs, depending on the delicacy we want to prepare we use following:
      1. Sour Curd (Yogurt) this has a lot of good bacteria and enzymes which helps in fermentation and makes the food item soft
      2. Activated Dry Yeast... However we try to minimise the usage as using yeast makes us feel bloated
      3. We don't use any substitute which is the case most of the times and these results in we sacrificing the fluffy / spongy ness of the delicacy.
      Also we are strict vegetarians and hence we don't consume any sort of eggs... The only difference between us and Vegans is that we consume Honey and Milk Products.

      Hi Carolina! I guess my peanut butter and dates were thinner than yours, just add some water to the mixture, I think you'll be fine. And chop your almonds very fine.

      @@HowToCookSmarter thank you! The second batch was a lot better. Solution: I used quick oats instead of the rolled oats. It was just perfect!

    Why is your peanut butter so runny.. one we get here is dry n thick which makes all the difference in binding the bars. What can be done to make it runny without adding oil.
    Love your channel.

    • @HowToCookSmarter

      Hi there! It's runny because it' natural peanut butter, no sugar or oil added, anyway you can use any pb you have. Thanks for checking it out!

    Seems delicious! How do you make your date paste though? Thanks a lot for your recipes!

    • @HowToCookSmarter
      @HowToCookSmarter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alex! Well, if you have fresh dates just process them into your blender. Most of the time I use dried dates, so I have to pre-soak these first in some hot water, than also process these with my fodd processor and store in the fridge. That's all.

  • @lentilgirl1603
    @lentilgirl1603 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I made these and the taste was lovely but I had a problem blitzing the dates to make paste and it spoiled the outcome. I have a proper blitzer now, so will try it again.

      Hi Cindy! Sure, you can use dry dates too, just pre-soak them in hot water before blending. Use some of the water too, depending how thick you want your paste to be.

    how many calories would it be for one bar approx? also would it be okay to bake it too??

    • @PonytailRuth
      @PonytailRuth 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that you toast/dry fry the oats and nuts first (I also included shredded coconut in the pan), the rest of it doesn't actually need cooking. The wonderful smell of the toasted ingredients was so intense when I just made it. The method advised is tried and tested so it definitely works.

    • @HowToCookSmarter
      @HowToCookSmarter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! It's something like 170 calories per bar. There's no need to bake these, anyway if doing so there's no need to bake for long period of time.

    I have made these a couple of times according the recipe. It's sticky when I transfer it to the baking pan. But after overnight in the fridge, when I take it out, it starts falling apart >__< What do I need to add to make it more sticky?

    • @HowToCookSmarter
      @HowToCookSmarter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan! I guess your date paste is too thick, I would just add some water to the mixture, to make it even more sticky, that's all.

    • @seemapatilJapan
