If an overweight person is at the gym, that means they're actually trying to do something about it! Don't put someone down who's trying to make an effort.
Spacemonster Killer 1) no it’s not 2) it’s no ones business what you look like 3) if they are at the gym they are already trying to make change why continue to shame them
@@julialeland4387 I happen to appreciate the positive aspects of body shaming, but even if you don't, why make a spectacle of yourself? Why not just mind your own business and let it go?
Spacemonster Killer what are you talking about?? People should just mind their own business and stop worrying about what other people look like. The body shammer is the one making a “spectacle” of the situation.
As a skinny guy that's putting on some weight it's not sad. If your too skinny your unhealthy if your too fat your unhealthy. I'm not gonna cry about it do what you gotta do to be healthy or suck it up and own up to being unhealthy. You shouldn't be made fun of but don't be happy that your unhealthy

@@epicstyle160 allot of people say you should be happy at any size and I think that inspires laziness. You should only be happy if you're in the process of changing that aka going to the gym or eating more.
It is realistic. This kind of talk happens a lot, maybe more quietly, but some people are very rude and mean. I've seem childish behavior like this from grown adults who should know better.
@@SportsBossMan Yep, there's some people that don't grow up. I have zero booty, and a group of women were mocking me for it. And I'm a guy so I was like "wtf what are you doing? (im autistic and very bad at telling if people have been drinking) They called me dorito man and I must admit that was pretty funny but still what the hell?
Oh i would like to. I used to be the mean guy back in High School, but then i stopped. I miss my stupid old me haha, i would be nice feeling being a bully again
Hahahaha same here!! But to the other people its called acting.. If you listen closely, they only taller about the yoga pants without saying the word fat but they did say, skinny 🤔
I love that they showed both sides of this. I've had problems with my weight ever since I had my daughter, no matter how much i exercise or what i eat, and I've been given a lot of crap for it even from family. Meanwhile my younger brother has a crazy fast metabolism and for most of his life was super skinny no matter how much he ate and he was severely bullied for it when we were kids. This stuff really does happen to people on both ends of the scale. Kudos to every person that defended the people being bullied in this vid, we need more people like them 👏👏👏
to be honest i don't really see the point in calling people names over their weight. it's not nice and i don't think people realize just how important someones mental health is in trying to loose weight and just in general. that's probably the reason why you're having such a hard time loosing weight. your family needs to calm down. if i were you i'd just not keep in contact with them. you and your bro deserve so much better, don't let others bring ya down. if you're set on loosing weight tho i recommend a diet of only three meals a day, no snacks in between. for the diet there are some rules of what you cannot eat. no sugar, no sugar, did i mention no sugar? you wanna get your carbs from vegetables and fruit. its very important you don't eat any processed foods and eat a lotta salads. you wanna pair a vegetable with lean proteins, it could be fish, chicken, etc. you'd actually be less hungry this way. once you do start using fat for energy, because you've run out of all those sugars, your body actually likes it better. for exercise i'd recommend lifting weights and doing cardio for a bit every day and just try to get 8 to 9 hours of sleeps every night. sorry this was so long, and again this was just a recommendation so don't get too upset with me lol. and tell your bro being super skinny is awesome! why just be a skeleton for halloween when you can be one all year round? -from an also supper skinny person :)
Yeah, I'm the same way. I find it so hard to lose weight, it's been a really struggle to lose about half my body weight over the years and I was bullied heavily for my size. Pretty much any weight related insult has been thrown my way at one point or another. My fiancé on the other hand, can't gain any weight and is super skinny. People have made comments to him like "why are you with a fat chick when you're so thin?" or, my personal favourite, "you're so lucky to be able to eat whatever you want and stay so skinny!" Yeah, no, it's not lucky when going one day without food means that he gets really sick and lethargic, has to eat the equivalent of two large men's meals to maintain a healthy weight. He easily eats between 4k and 4.5k calories a day. His favourite response to their "you're so lucky" comments is "live my life, eat what I have to eat just to stay alive, let alone healthy and then tell me how lucky I am." Of course, he's got detractors as well, telling him how he should eat more and work out to bulk-up. He responds with "you pay the food bill and I'll do just that" with a quick breakdown of what he needs just to maintain his weight. He's quite confident in telling "the morons" to get lost. People have made snide comments about both him being super skinny and me being fat. It really does happen at both ends of the spectrum.
@@SushiKatGamer yeah, it's something that sucks about this world. i find that as long as you're comfortable in your own skin it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. and if your not, you'll learn to be. eventually. just need some patience. :)
Don't give up. Diets arent one size fits all and even though the energy in VS energy expended thing IS true, it's a gross oversimplification of what's going on inside your body. When it seems like you're doing everything right and it's not working it means you're not. And by that I mean, the advice doesn't work for you and therefore you're not doing what works for your body mind and lifestyle. I won't give you unsolicited diet advice because that's not fair but if you're interested I can make a few suggestions of quite small things that I tweaked which made a HUGE impact on my ability to lose weight. I was also stuck like you, working out religiously and dieting until I was miserable but still not losing weight. It actually got me super interested in nutrition and fitness and it's become a bit of an extra-curricular for me, particularly any approach to dieting that is holistic and focuses on overall health rather than attaining a particular body shape (let's be real, no body needs that pressure/stress)
My sister and I were skinny shamed all throughout our childhoods and school. It’s a real thing and I’m glad they highlighted both. Body shaming no matter what size is terrible
One of my old friends from high school told me if someone gets body shamed, it's their own fault for having their body like that. I stopped being friends with that prick after he said that.
glad they included skinny shaming as well as fat shaming. my mom told me that she was always called a "toothpick" at her school for being relatively thin and the opposite has happened to me where people will call me a fat*ss at my school. its heartbreaking to hear those kinds of things
yup, i’m overweight due to an ed and have been bullied for it, my best friend is underweight due to diabetes, being premature and other medical problems and has also been bullied for it. nobody can really win in a world like this
This video made me pretty happy, I used to look a lot like that skinny girl at my lowest weight and never felt comfortable going to the gym. I didn't end up going until I took weight gaining pills to feel more comfortable with myself
i remember when i was a bit overweight and felt ashamed to go the gym, but when i did decided to change and went to gym, they are one the most coolest people, gave bunch of tips, how to do proper workout, and one dude even made diet plan for me for free!
@Brady MAher I think she meant that she is trying to fix her weight at the gym just like an alcoholic person would try to fix their addiction so making fun of them isnt helping them
4:39 THIS is the real Chad, a well educated, empathetic young person who respects everyone. The world would be so much better with more people like him.
As someone who has actually experienced this type of humiliation I can assure you as a fat person, being made fun of at a gym is absolutely soul crushing.
Yeah, and it just shows that people hide behind the phrase “I care about your health” as an excuse to bully fat people. If they actually cared about a person’s health, they wouldn’t be shaming them at a place where you’re TRYING TO GET HEALTHY.
Don't let them in you headspace. Those are people who truly hate themselves. It's called projection. They will never be thin enough or fit enough and that's why they project their insecurities on others.
I used to be a gym rat ( now im old but still in shape ) and body positivity was a big thing back then. Everyone used to lift each other up, that's why I loved going. It didn't matter what shape you were in, you were at the gym, and that made you one of us. It was like a mini club/society.
similar to a cycling club. The weaker riders can just sit in the draft and get stronger. One day they'll be pulling us all along. Never shame someone out of the opportunity to improve.
This..this comment exactly! Women are judged harshly ..no matter how they look or act. By men, by women. They can be pretty much flawless, and someone will find one small thing and highlight it to try and bring them down. It is so sad. 😔
I completely agree on this back then I would get picked on for being too thin and now I get told that I’m gaining weight .. when In my opinion I look and feel healthier but oh well everyone has their own opinions....
Ps1 Hagrid yeah i agree but (at least me personally) i’ve seen it happen a lot more to women. not saying ur wrong cuz it definitely happens to men too, but i’ve seen so many times where a guy shames a woman’s body but he’s not the most fit or anything himself
Me too! People often think being skinny excludes you from body shaming but it’s just as common. I remember being 15 trying on my first pair of wedges, and two girls walking by said I was too skinny to be wearing them and that I looked horrible. I never ever forgot that moment.
I agree! People used to always call me a stick as a joke and I just laughed with them but it really affected me. It was impossible to gain weight but when I started to get a little older I was gaining some weight and just recently my teacher commented on how I was “filling out” in front of my class. I was amazed by the fact that she thought that was okay.
Exactly, I've been both fat and skinny shamed despite never being overweight, I've always been underweight or close to underweight yet was fat shamed for 3-4 years from 9-13 then it turned to skinny shaming because I developed an ED (I've been getting better now though and eat better... kind of). It's so hurtful when all you hear is "She's such a pig, look at her" or, in more recent years "God, you look thinner than a toothpick, even your chest and butt are flat, it's gross, gain some weight holy shit". Even my family skinny shame me (Although I think they don't realise they're body shaming me) because they're always calling me a twig or too skinny and telling me to gain weight. Like yes, I get that I have an ED and need to gain weight BUT I don't need to be reminded of my weight all the time, like... it people make it the main topic of conversations which would be fine in a doctors office or a therapy room but NOT in public and especially not at home where you are supposed to feel safe from judgement.
I agree. Being asked if you’re bulemic or anorexic feels no better than the comments bigger people get. “Stick” and “all bones” aren’t compliments either. And don’t get me started on “real girls don’t look like that” or “there’s nothing to love on your body”, or that you aren’t feminine at all. I wasn’t even that skinny. I just grew a lot very suddenly and my weight couldn’t catch up yet, it wasn’t so bad. I can’t imagine what girls skinnier than I was back then hear. I know that fat shaming is an issue, but that’s not the only body type that gets shamed and I’m glad the other end of the scale was addressed here.
I concur. I experienced both and they are both equally horrible. When I was chubby and at a perfectly healthy weight, relatives said I was chubby, that I should exercise, and that I would be prettier if I was less chubby. So I lose weight. Now it is "isn't that unhealthy??" Like, just SHUDDUP PLEASE 🥰☺🙈
It’s so annoying that many people tend to think that overweight people are lazy and trying to lose weight and underweight people are obsessed with how their body looks and being skinny
Some people have genetic predispositions to having a higher body weight unfortunately. Some people naturally will weigh more (genetic tests can show it), some people have health issues, and some people genetically have lower metabolism. It is a fact of life unfortunately. Imagine a world where body averages were decided based on your ethnic profiles, people would have much better ideas about what was really normal for them.
@-rainydayys I think it's something to do with metabolism or something like that. But yes, that is horrible to be bullied for something like that. Especially if someone feels bad about it then it makes it worse
I think weight doesn’t really matter as long as it doesn’t affect your health. One time one of my dance teacher was “fat” but in reality she was very energetic and I loved her she was so kind but she had to go because of university.
You just know as soon as one person finally sticks up to the bullies, everyone else presses pause on their music and is secretly listening to it all play out😂😂💀💀
I like how they didn’t insult the bullies’ looks to shut them up. It’s like it was never about the way you look just the outrage of the words coming out of your mouth
Probably chopped it out - because I would have straight up had a go at least one of them. But then that would have not been a clear message for the programme.
@@mlguy8376 my first go to when someone is insulting someone looks is always something along the lines of “I may be fat, but I can lose the weight. You’ll always be an ugly person inside and that can’t be changed” 😌 It usually works pretty well. Most the time they’re too shocked to speak 😂
A very good friend of mine has been hitting the gym for over 14 months now and has gone through an amazing change in his life. Over 170 pounds lost and still rising. Be careful of who you shame at the gym, they could become the person who ends up looking better than you and stealing your girl or man down the road. Edit: Changed my comment to include men and women who could both become amazing through hard effort and could take your wife or husband. I'd also like to comment that my same friend has become my inspiration to work out as well and I hope his story does the same for you as well. You can do it. You're all beautiful.
Beeing FAT shouldnt be showing as something positive it's fcking unhealthy and it's big problem especialy in the US where half of citzens weight is like 150kg
I was 65kg and I got bullied and now I'm 46kg and I still getting critics about how much weight I lost and how ugly I became. But I really don't give a shit I love me.
I hate that no matter what everyone gets shamed/bullied whether it’s because they’re “Too fat” or “too skinny” or any other thing about you that’s different from someone else. I really hate it.
me too , like ?? why can’t everyone just chill out and not make a comment on someone’s body ?? that’s why so many people are insecure about themselves , is because of everyone’s high expectations !!
That's exactly why I realized at a young age that people's opinions don't matter. Life's alot more enjoyable when you couldn't care less about what others think of you.
true dat! i just love lookin and oogling at those bead sweats drippin and rolling through them caterpillar looking love handles 😍 They're all pink in the inside
If you really think about it, when someone comment on somebody's weight is because they are immature brats that really need to get a life and not to judge others.
The oddest part of "body shaming" is it happens on both spectrums. I had a very overweight woman tell me I was too skinny and looked hungry. While I was working. Which was offensive. Then she came back with donuts and told me go eat because I looked like I had lost weight since she'd last seen me. It happens everywhere. It's never going to change.
As sapphyre said, it's all insecurity. It happens at both ends because either end of the spectrum, isn't "normal". They're deathly afraid and insecure about looking anything like what they feel is "acceptable".
For any potential gym goers who are conscious about their body: THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOR. 99% of people at the gym are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and will respect you for coming in. Do not be discouraged or turned off from going by the behavior seen in this video.
That is so true... they dont care how it is your outfit they focus on the training, they know that working out is hard and some of them will encourage you to get what you want...
I’m glad they had a slim girl facing criticism too. Because my daughter was called anorexic from elementary school thru high school! Even her “counselor” didn’t believe she did not have an eating disorder! It’s caused her a lot of pain and taken time for her to forgive their ignorance.
I was called anorexic all through school as well. I can understand how hard it is, I’m sorry your daughter went through that. I hope she is in a good place now and feels comfortable with her body.
Gentle Khajiit People just don’t realize how much words hurt. I’m sorry you went through that as well. Yes, she’s 21, and done some modeling which helped her self esteem. And, now going back to college to study biology. She’s doing great! Thanks!

I agree. Unrelated, but your comment kinda reminds me of Heterophobia. It's getting more and more common yet people ignore it. They say it's "not important because it's not as severe and common as homophobia". Like wtf??? That isn't a good reason to just ignore it and say "heterophobia doesnt exist" when it clearly does. Some people are even starting to use heterosexuality as an insult... where's this world going? Stopping homophobia to start heterophobia? This still isn't right. Why are people like that... why is human brain like that.
I agree. When I started going to the gym I was 5’3” and 93lbs. I was bullied relentlessly by a couple that would come in around similar times I would. I had actually known their daughter because she was in the same grade as me at the time so these were people that should have known better as they were parents. I ended up canceling my membership and going to an anytime fitness that is three blocks away from my house and I only used to go at night hours because it had made me that insecure. Happy ending is 2 years later I’m at a healthy 130lb and gaining because I’ve found that bodybuilding as given me confidence I didn’t know I could have.

Big time eh. I saw a morbidly obese lady on the treadmill and all I have is respect. People who are making healthy changes deserve nothing but respect.
Yeah. Two people live 3 hours away from a location. One of them gets the call to be there 3 hours before they have to be there, and the other gets the call 1 hour before. You wouldn’t shame the person for showing up late. They’re at the beginning of their journey, so don’t shame someone for not being at the same point as where you are.
Being overweight isn't always about eating and training habits. It is also about hormones, medical conditions and physical limitations. I know a person who is almost completely blind after a brain tumour. The tumour also affected their metabolism heavily. As such, they have become extremely overweight. Even while trying to eat healthy.
I used to be a big girl. 100+lbs overweight. I have belonged to 2 different gyms in my city. I have never been teased, shamed, or even looked at funny by anyone in either gym. I only been lifted up, encouraged, made friends, and received love from the others gym users.

Exactly! People can be naturally skinner, sick, have cancer or many other reasons. People judge skinny people too accusing them of being a drug addict. These comments can be very hurtful as I’ve experienced being judged for being too skinny. I ended up binge eating to put on weight which made me put on more than I intended and left me not wanting to leave the house for a month even to get groceries I had to get my partner to pick up my essentials. Nothing is worse than feeling like a prisoner in your own home because that’s where you feel safest and most comfortable.
I said this in the first trailer but: Mocking an overweight person at the gym is like mocking an alcoholic at an AA meeting. (Unfortunately I did not come up with this and don’t know who did, but still, the point still stands.

tyrone loki my dear, I totally agree with you that sometimes people wear clothes that don't look good on them, it doesn't attract their bodies, but who am I to judge, especially at the GYM, it's a place we shouldn't judge, or argue about what people should wear. Because the gym is the place to work out and sweat 😓. Now on the other hand, it's a different story when someone is dressed up in disgusting and obnoxious clothing in places such as Walmart . As an obese woman, this made me cry so bad because i can see myself in that situation. It is not funny being called fat...i know for a fact that i am and that's why i'm doing something about it. But to hear those words though...just breaks my heart.
Don't hear anyone, nobody at all. Most people at the gym don't really care, plus do you believe bodyshamer's opinions matters? Absolutely not. I also hit the gym, go there and don't care about your surroundings, have your good time and learn to love yourself❤️
I got ur feeling... As a skinny woman this also made me cry a lot (also bc I wasn’t expecting for ppl talking about skinny shaming so it was kinda like a shock to me)!
I remember when I was on the tennis team. There was this one high school that was much better than us in skill, but the girls were very rude. They were always criticizing our tennis uniforms and hair. Their biggest priority, apparently, was looking good on the court while beating us. We were never concerned about our looks because the goal was to win. I didn’t care if I looked cute, win or lose. All I cared about were the smaller victories I could get against this team.

As a teacher, I’d love to see a kids version for health classes and social media education. How to deal with bullies 101 and what your mean online comments really sound like.
yeah! people always forget that skinny shaming actually happens MORE than fat shaming. people do it so much and subtly too, so it can be harder to pick up. but skinny shaming is just as bad, even worse in some cases.
@@dreamerspringswalks even worse? no, it's not a competition but since you want to make it to be, the beauty standard and most modern clothes were literally built around skinny people's body. comparing when i was fat to when i was skinny, i was treated SO much differently when i was skinny. nobody talked to be when i was fat but then when i was skinny suddenly i got asked out and approached my people everyday. it's not a competition but don't say skinny shaming is worse because it's not.

I like that they mentioned skinny shaming and I think many people overlook skinny shaming but it’s still a problem, if you are being made to feel bad for your body then it’s the same
Used to have a friend that was fat and she would keep telling this really thin girl to eat more and would just always be on her ass about her weight and how she needed to gain. We were all friends but it bugged my skinny friend so much and made her self conscious and depressed. She was just naturally skinnier. But it breaks people down just as much as bullying a person for being fat.
That’s dope the show ran a scenario for skinny and overweight and also really glad to see men speaking up too. It would be so easy to just laugh it off or ignore it especially if it’s someone that probably isn’t your type but it takes guts to standup to bullies in general but especially on behalf of a stranger. I agree with this one
It actually got me super interested in nutrition and fitness and it's become a bit of an extra-curricular for me, particularly any approach to dieting that is holistic and focuses on overall health rather than attaining a particular body shape (let's be real, no body needs that pressure/stress)

similar to a cycling club. The weaker riders can just sit in the draft and get stronger. One day they'll be pulling us all along. Never shame someone out of the opportunity to improve.
“Skinny shaming” shows you just can’t win as a woman. Fat, thin, curvy, doesn’t matter. Somebody’s always gonna criticize your body.

I love how both fat AND skinny shaming was included, everyone should be respected equally.

It's never going to change.
its usually just projection of their own insecurities, like bc yr something theyre not they feel the need to bring u down
As sapphyre said, it's all insecurity.
