My first tank I bought on CL. It was a 40gal with an African brown knifefish, red devil cichlid, and a common pleco. I upgraded to 125gal and added an Oscar. Over the 6-7 years I owned the fish I added various smaller cichlids (convict, Jack Dempsey, etc. My knifefish always remained about 3 to 4 inches, while the red devil went from 4 to 12 inches. The knife fish never killed an adult fish, and was safe due to its speed, maneuverabilty,, propensity to hide and being nocturnal. I chose hides that if I looked I could still see the knifefish. I had no plants due to the red devil. Overall, I really enjoyed the knifefish. The star was the red devil, and I loved the Oscar and pleco, but the knifefish was a cool, mysterious supporting actor in the story of my tank. I was sad to rehome the tank before I moved cross country. I think of them often, and hope things went well.
I got a 55 with a solo blood parrot about to get an African knife fish and see how it goes lol sizes are about the same parrots a wee bit bigger, great video though!
