    The bichirs at 10:28 are in fact Polypterus mokelembembe.

    African leaf fish also known as a
    leopard ctenopoma and I believe they are a labyrinth fish. I've had my guy for about 6 years now as big as I've ever seen one get. Pretty neat fish it lives with a big Midas cichlid with a huge kok on his head. This guy's ill-tempered but it's hilarious whenever he swims by the leaf fish the leaf fish just pretends it's a leaf and he doesn't bother it at all... Instead he just chases the Big Red Hook silver dollars or my feather fin upside down synodontis cat(who's a jerk, himself) around all day and leaves the leaf fish alone,. Leaf fish can be pretty aggressive too that's kind of how we ended up in there with the Midas.

    those are 100% mokelembembe Bichir 😂 you can tell from the marble pattern black and yellow stripped front fins and spines also Retropinnis has a distinct speckling around the eyes

    Congicus and Lapridei are the ones that are fairly different. Congicus are typically more gray and larger than the lapradei. Lapradei also have horizontal stripes and small spots. Congicus are more round as well. Lapradei are more similar to Polypterus Bichir Bicher, while congicus are more similar to Polypterus Endlicheri.

    Rod, Kevin I love this! I got a 50 gal west African setup and its been the funnest tank Ive ever set up! Partly because its hard to find fish from there lol. I have 2 African leaffish (also called bushfish), with congo tetras - the regular ones, cant find fancy ones like you guys got!, and also a brown knifefish and African butterflyfish, nice to see you guys getting the super rare!

  • @SnapeKillsDumbledore2k10

    The retropinnis polypterus photos you have on the website appear to be palmas polli not retropinnis.

    • @SnapeKillsDumbledore2k10
      @SnapeKillsDumbledore2k10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those that you’ve gotten in as retropinnis definitely look like mokelembembe to me. The differences are mostly discernible just by looking at them once they’ve colored up on a red or black substrate.

    • @Shade_91
      @Shade_91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SnapeKillsDumbledore2k10 they are, Polypterus Retropinnis is probably the most misidentified Bichir in the hobby. funny enough i ordered a Mokelembebe and got a Retropinnis (from another store) 😂 you are right about the website photos being Polli too idk why the hobby has such a hard time with identifying Bichirs.

    Do you guys ever get any Gnathocharax Steindachneri (Arowana Tetra) in?? I REALLY wanna make a nice 100 gallon with them and live plants, etc and they're a perfect candidate for your shop. Small 2 inch tetras with a huge mouth, sharp teeth, and big African Butterflyfish-esque pectoral fins, almost like a mini version of a Payara but with a little splash of color by the tail. I have NO IDEA where they could be sourced from, no place i've seen has them sadly and they're little known in the hobby from what I know.

    Personally i call (Heterotis niloticus) African arapaimas as they are more related to the South American arapaimas than they are to any Arowanas, with both (Heterotis) and (Arapaima) being in the subfamily Arapaiminae the Arapaima-types, rather than the subfamily Osteoglossinae the Arowana-types.
