    Love seeing you keep your farlowella with glass catfish. Another wonderful oddball we don't often see.

      They were good times.
      The next time I keep them, it’ll be with all ambush predators: banjo catfish, African butterfly fish, leaf fish, etc.

    Thank you this is so helpful I got one of these today but I’m gonna go back and return it tomorrow because I definitely do not keep my tank clean enough

      In terms of algae or ammonia? Algae they love, ammonia not so much

    Thank you so much! I have a red lizard cat and just picked up a farlowella. I'm going to give them some cucumber this evening! I have the bug bites sinking pellets, but the snails, tetras, cories, and even my honey gourami all go so hard for them! My LFS owner said to try dropping them at night.

    • @MattKeepsFish
      @MattKeepsFish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely helps! Feed the more active fish to distract, and then drop something for these guys. Might take a little adjustment to realize that the cucumber is food, but they’ll get the hang of it

      @@MattKeepsFish So far my guy (I named him Cyrano, because what else could I name him?) Has managed to get his tail stuck and bend himself almost into a circle before I rescued him, but has not managed to find a way to get to the cucumber that I have staked to the aquarium floor, lol!
      I feel so bad. My tank is planted pretty well, and I have a complex slate tower in the middle, as well as a little canyon. He's just so awkward, and I'm gonna watch him carefully. If he can't handle the environment of my tank, I will take him back rather than let him starve, of course! He's so cute, but just not having the best time so far.
      It's his first day, though. So, we'll see. I kept one of these guys before, about 20 years or so ago, but knew a lot less back then. :(

      @@evergray Yeah, they certainly need a lot of open space for their awkward little wriggles. If I were to have them again, I would have a group in a tank with a large footprint, and have most of the driftwood and plants in the back. That way they could camouflage for the majority of the time, and then could come to the front to feed in a large, open area

    I've been trying to decide on which catfish to get for my 75 it was this or Asian stone or bumble bee. But I like the way this guy looks

    Awesome video. Males get a little longer than females my male is 7in. They also have a longer rostrum in comparison to females.

      @@MattKeepsFish what’s that ?

    • @MattKeepsFish
      @MattKeepsFish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jimbosreptiles There’s a video on it coming in a few weeks, but basically some fish accidentally ingest parasites (bugs) that live inside their stomach and eat their food.
      Very harmful for fish and very difficult to get rid of. But ‘deworming’ is the process of removing these parasites

    Would a pair be safe with a pair of Reedfish?

    • @MattKeepsFish
      @MattKeepsFish  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure. Reedfish are hunters, which means they may give it a try even if they shouldn’t or can’t actually eat the twig catfish. However, it seems that people have kept them with other small, long fish with success, so it’s worth a try. Just monitor well for the first couple days to make sure that the reedfish isn’t attempting to swallow the twig (for the safety of both) and you should be okay.

      Thanks for your quick response.
      After careful consideration, I've decided to go with Whiptail Cats, as they have more chonk to them and they're a litte faster overall.
      I was looking for something in Loricariidae to trim up some algae and enjoy my driftwood without chewing up the scenery or getting huge like Plecos can.
      I was looking at a Red Lizard Cat earlier online. Loving the name!

    • @MattKeepsFish
      @MattKeepsFish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, a broader body would be best to discourage the reedfish. Helps that they camouflage well too!

    Exoskeleton?

    • @MattKeepsFish
      @MattKeepsFish  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to describe until you see the bare skeleton of one. Although it may not be a traditional insect exoskeleton that is shed and replaced, it is a series of connected bony plates that cover the entire body in the place of scales. In that way, it highly resembles an exoskeleton except that there is also a traditional skeleton within the fish
