Ben Redfield that twist could of worked if they didn’t kill off Bud before the reveal, if he would of lived to the scene then be killed off it would work more or at least wouldn’t make the twist so obvious since they were literally the last three.
Rork, The Game Master I thought the twist was Bud goes to the Sawyers while Jackson and Liz escaped. The Sawyers just assumed Bud was Jed because of his murder and Jackson reveals himself to Liz just moments before Bud chainsaws them both to death.

Leatherface from the original film was very clearly intellectually disabled. He was a guy born with serious issues and was then molded into a monster by the people around him. He was very childlike and was in some ways frightened by the main characters as much as they were frightened by him. It was obviously that on a fundamental level he did not understand people and socialization. The idea that the normal, charming, charismatic Jed we see in this movie could become him is just ridiculous.
Tho it could be argued that after getting shot and watching his friend get killed and the woman who was also taken hostage along side himself and his friend betrayed him his mind just broke
A killer that is just as scared of you as you are scared of him is the reason why leather face is so interesting for me , some moments of him displaying humanity is so special in contrast to someone like myers in Halloween ( Which is Great too ) who has zero humanity
I will say that shot to his head might have caused some serious brain damage that would revert him to acting very childlike, as that is a common symptom of brain damage
Honestly, i can see the transformation from jed to leatherface being reasonable to an extent. He went from a good looking well behaved guy, to someone who watched a person get executed by a cop, his friend get shot in the head, smashed a cops head in, was permanently disfigured from a gunshot to the face, and narrowly escaped being executed by a cop himself only to have his mom encourage him to take revenge on said cop, giving him support for his rage. Its believable in my eyes, if not the most well done.
I thought so! his injuries would be good incentive to lose who he was, too. Since in real life, people do change after their appearance is altered. Psychologically, they have a hard time. (Like severe burns or amputation) Usually figuring out how to be "their old self" or " a better self" with a good support system and we all know the influence his family would have on him. The way they wrote this was better than just having someone like bud being leather face. There's No real story there.
Hmm let's look at bud's description. A strong silent type with the emotions of a child who can literally kill anyone he wants to, but is bossed around in fear. THAT'S LITERALLY LEATHER FACE!!!
@@andrewwestfall65 He was also said to have mental deterioration like super early Alzheimers. Killing already breaks the mind and soul, and on top of that he had a disability that didn't manifest until later in life. Who knows?
I don't remember how much more than film clarifies than the kill count, but it would be a hilarious double twist if Bud WAS the child that was taken but the family assumed it was Jackson and adopted him. They just made some totally random crazy dude into a serial killer. lmao
I deeply appreciate James' flashing light warnings. These are far and few between, and as someone with a rather intense neurological disorder, it seriously makes all the difference. Really appreciate it!
In regards to the twist, Seth, the screenwriter, wanted to explore how Leatherface became someone without personal identity. Leatherface takes on the persona of the faces he wears but we see that there is a very wounded person beneath that. In this film, he has his name taken from him, his family taken, and then he loses his best friend. The first identity he takes on is the identity of his friend which is why he looks so much different in later films. I think the marketing spoiled the ending and the casting could have been better but this was a unique take on the character that was developed with love to the franchise.
A little late to the party…I read Seth’s script to this which was great and to add on - He doesn’t kill Lizzy (Vanessa in the script) but hits her in the head with a sledgehammer mentally disabling her and the final scene is her tossed on a corner of the room minus her arms and legs, still alive, watching as Leatherface makes his new face mask from the sheriff. It was one of the creepiest endings I had ever read.
SPOILERS: Watching this kill count, I appreciate what they're going for with Leatherface's/Jackson's transformation. Sally loses her mind from the depravity of the Sawyer family in the original. Jackson loses his mind from the depravity of the outside world to him, his friends, and his family. Granted, the family's crazy but in good hands, he could've been reformed.
1974: Grandpa is the best at killing 2017: *showing that he really is the best at killing* Me: finally Edit: gesh +3000 likes never got this many likes before
Seeing Grandpa get a kill was hype as fuck. I'd love to watch a prequel movie about Grandpa in his prime, see how he earned the title of 'best at killing'.
I always saw it as a "He just did it' sort of thing. Unlike Jeb, he never failed to kill. He made no game or chase of it. He just got up, hit em, and sat back down
Finding out that Jackson is Leatherface in this kind of movie is easy enough. Bud is too obvious and the other dude is already way to happy to kill it has to be some kind of plot twist or they might as well have told you at the start of the movie.
1st time we see grandpa Sawyer: fails to kill 2nd time we see grandpa Sawyer: fails to kill this time we see grandpa Sawyer: MURDERS A MOTHERFATHER! He really was the best at killing
I expected the twist to be sort of the reverse: that one of the other boys actually was the real Jedediah, but that the Sawyers would end up adopting Bud due to not really knowing which kid was which. It would have been a better twist, too, since the reasonable intelligent and charismatic Jackson simply doesn't seem like he could become the hulking, mute, "mind of a child" Leatherface. That's ignoring the fact that this is actually the same twist from the Wolverine Origin comic, in which the feral boy Dog seems like he will grow up to be the Logan we know and love, but it's actually the sheltered James Howlett. The difference there is that the boys are much younger, giving James time to grow into his Wolverine physique, and that Wolverine has never been an unintelligent character.
It is believable how Jackson was Leatherface. He grew up around fairly normal people instead of his crazy family and he had access to books he read so he was able to adjust normally.
@@xrphoenix7194idk sounds pretty believable considering he was taken from his family at a young age and then had his face horribly disfigured and was encouraged by his newly reunited mother to kill the man who just shot him in the face
I didn't think Bud was Leatherface, I figured he was Jed's chubby brother that got taken to the same mental institute as Jed. Seemed like a good reason why Bud was so quick to murder and why Jackson was so incensed by Bud's death.
I thought that too. Because both the young kids were taken and I never saw any of the other movies. Jed was skinny as a kid while the chubby brother was well chubby and seemed like he could easily grow up to be Bud. With the he seemed slow mentally thing.
Okay, I see a lot of people in comments who are upset on Jackson becoming Leatherface, but I feel like it makes quite a bit of sense (at least in this timeline). Okay, just to be real, Leatherface wasn't really that chubby in the first place, especially now with the actors nowadays that play him being rather fit for the role. Not only that, but his arc makes sense because he was reformed in the facility (for a short time at least), went through a traumatic experience while escaping (like seeing his friends getting killed and such), and being scarred. That scarring moment and learning about the truth on his origins would break the last of his sanity and lead him becoming broken down by his family's abuse, turning him into Leatherface. This is my TedTalk, and I'm outta here like Vladimir.
you could also make the argument that when people mention how leatherface would've been a functioning member in society if it weren't for his family, jackson IS that functioning member; he can very well be seen as that guy! then you had bud, who was somewhat explosive from time to time, yet still was emotionally disturbed, which is where i think people focused on him from how reckless he got in some scenes like ike's death. back to jackson, there's also moments during the movie like the BBQ place where even though he's inside still, he still cowers and keeps his head down (i'm pretty sure you see him in this sort of position at 8:22; it may not look at him, but i think he just takes the flannel of the dead diner person at the front area). you can see while he's defending lizzie in the hospital, he did show himself to get a little more aggressive than he's shown beforehand. i can see him mumbling to drayton as the 1974's leatherface had in that film. i will say, however, i have seen the 2022's texas chainsaw massacre, and bud fits 2022 LF pretty damn well; his appearance alone could carry this sort of thought, but i feel as though bud would have possibly been kept in check pretty well by the woman. where i can see jackson be gruesome and show the emotion that 1974's LF had, 2022's LF is dangerous and was overwhelmed when Ginny passed away- in his lap, no less. i think if bud had indeed lived and was LF, he would've grown up to be a much more violent LF like the reboot's thomas hewitt! (i am so sorry for this long rant, i just also think jackson fits the role very well)
No problem! Jordan and my other mods had a good suggestion for me, too - next time I'll play a tone when the section ends so if you're watching with your eyes closed, you'll know when it's safe to look again.
So it would have made a lot of sense that Bud would be Leatherface, but maybe Leatherface ended up being so similar to Bud because Bud was his friend or something? Bud’s death was really where Jackson started to get the most crazy, after all.
Southern Flight he wouldn’t kill me even though he’s the heaviest and strongest in my family, actually my other brother is more violent and he even invites me to go hunting and we shoot the rabbits that destroy my grandmas garden
Betty's version of Pam's close up shot is better than the ones used in the remake and it's prequel, but still lack the lightning that made the shot effective in the original
I actually really liked the idea of it, kinda fascinated by a crazy leatherface just hanging out in a basement while upstairs and outside everything seems normal.
Guys! We did it! We got through another franchise with this beautiful man! Getting closer to the Final Destination kill count now, only two other franchise to watch beforehand.

I think that would've been too obvious
I thought we were starting JAWS early

it was Letherface

It is believable how Jackson was Leatherface. He grew up around fairly normal people instead of his crazy family and he had access to books he read so he was able to adjust normally.
Nah.
So he went from normal dude to mentally disabled giant because he saw his friend die and got his mouth disfigured? Doesnt make any sense
@@xrphoenix7194true
@@xrphoenix7194idk sounds pretty believable considering he was taken from his family at a young age and then had his face horribly disfigured and was encouraged by his newly reunited mother to kill the man who just shot him in the face
@@needstoastif that sounds believable to you then Ive got a bridge to sell you
I was waiting for the Iron Fist joke, and it fully delivers.
Now I miss that show.

I love that in The Numbers you gave Finn Jones' kill figure an iron fist.

Betty's version of Pam's close up shot is better than the ones used in the remake and it's prequel, but still lack the lightning that made the shot effective in the original
I think the lack of techno color used in the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie is also why Betty's reshot of the Pam scene isn't as good.
Still better than 3D Trying to sympathize leather face and the Sawyers
