    I have a good VA clinic where I've had no problems with appointments, and good care from their walk-in clinic. They also send me to community care for more advanced treatment, colonoscopy, and dermatology. I've used medicare once to get a primary care civilian doctor.

    I'm 100% P & T and am Priority Group 1 for VA Med Care. 100% P & T and PG 1 gives me totally free med care, dental, vision care, and audiology services (including hearing aids).
    I am in San Francisco so I have access to a major VA Med Center (that includes an inpatient hospital).
    When the time came to sign up for Medicare I passed on that because I'm very pleased with the VAMC. (Already had three surgeries, four colonoscopies, and what seems like an MRI every year. Plus I get labs every few months. And of course all prescriptions free.)
    Bottom line: I know not everyone has this level of VA healthcare, just saying for this Veteran, I'm good.

    I have VA benefits at 100% plus SMC housebound. I am on Medicare with Tri-Care for life. Due to Medicare, I am enrolled in a Cardio course at no charge to me. I also have Care in the community for cardiology, sleep and urology.

    I have received excellent care from the VA here in Maryland. They have provided me with top of the line hearing aids, biPAP machine, eyeglasses, and good all-round care. Having said that, I want to know that I am covered in the case of a major illness and may want to go to Johns Hopkins for instance. They only accept their own MA plan. The Mayo Clinic doesn't accept MA plans. So, even though I have VA benefits, I have a Plan G supplement. I am a retired insurance agent and subscribe to the parachute theory. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

    I’m a spouse of a 100% PT veteran and I have CHAMPVA, what Medicare coverage would you recommend, if any? I will be getting parts A and B soon, but not sure that’s enough with just CHAMPVA. Thank you very much for your help!

    Have been on Medicare for 13 years and do not have part B - what are some options for additional coverage that the VA does not cover? Adding part B now is cost prohibitive.

    • @BoomerBenefits
      @BoomerBenefits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, to our knowledge, there aren't any additional plans you can likely get. There are standalone plans such as dental, vision, and hearing coverage, and cancer insurance. But for actual medical coverage, you would need to enroll in Medicare Part B. You cannot get a marketplace/ACA plan since you are eligible for Medicare.

    Does TRICARE Select count as credible coverage? If I have TRICARE select AND VA priority group 1 medical with prescriptions you still recommend Medicare? Thanks.

    • @BoomerBenefits
      @BoomerBenefits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, Tricare is not creditable coverage for Medicare Parts A and B. In fact, Tricare is secondary coverage to Original Medicare. Tricare for Life functions as a supplement, or wraparound, for people enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. This means that Medicare will be your primary insurance. However, Tricare is creditable coverage for Medicare Part D. Learn more here: boomerbenefits.com/tricare-and-medicare/

    • @BoomerBenefits
      @BoomerBenefits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The VA isn’t creditable coverage for Part A or Part B, so if you just have the VA coverage without creditable employer coverage then you would want to enroll in Part A and Part B to avoid late penalties and to have access to civilian doctors and hospitals if you ever needed them. However, the VA is creditable coverage for Part D.

      So for not using Medicare cause you don’t need it, you pay a penalty? Sounds like a bunch of crap!

  • @ericlee2931

    We always hear that there is a penalty for late enrolment in Medicare part B .... So, what exactly is that penalty?? I would assume that you pay a higher monthly part B premium.... What is that amount in dollars?

    I'am living overseas and can not use medicare so I canceled my part B. Why have a $170 a month from my social security taken out for something I can't use?

    • @BoomerBenefits
      @BoomerBenefits  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have a valid point! Just know that if you return to the US and need to apply for Part B again, you'll likely have a late enrollment penalty.

    • @BoomerBenefits

      Hi there - Danielle briefly mentions TFL at the beginning of this video. TFL includes prescription drug coverage, which you can use in lieu of Medicare Part D. Some people purchase Part D for additional coverage, but you are not required to do so.
