Good call Paddy. I think you'll see steady growth and before too long you'll be making more than enough from adsense. I do find it annoying when travel vloggers break into a video to sell something (especially when they're getting loads more views than I am, and I know they don't need the extra money). I've never made a sponsored video and have no regrets about it. I think in the long run things will work out equally if not better and in the short run you won't have to work with companies trying to stick their nose into your business and telling you what they want in your videos.

I feel like I am travelling vicariously through you. I think if there was too much talk about products I would cancel membership. Keep the great videos coming but don't work too hard.
There was a young chap on you tube in Bangkok. He was asking subscribers if he should make his next video available to patrons only and if he didn't get enough response in the comments this is what he'd do. I quickly unsubscribed as I don't like commercialism and don't like being threatened.

One think I've learned is finding a balance between Time and money is important, you don't want to start resenting making so many videos leaving you with less spare time because your content may eventually suffer not just because of this but also because you feel pressure to be constantly finding new things to film. Some product placement is good if its Tech you will use on your travels and your subscribers may find useful in their lives, it's how its packaged, it doesn't need to be too Sales'y and perhaps could take less payment and make it a bit more of a natural/casual plug - while also getting yourself some free new gear. Appreciate the thought you put into the decision though :-)
If you find a good brand that you can have a longterm partnership with that has a product that you 100% recommend and that allows you to incorporate it in your videos how you want, I think you should consider it. I think it's very nice of you to really think this through!
Content is King, you control your growing leverage. When that leverage is at a level which suits the content you enjoy making, you can pick & choose the right brand deals.

It is art. Artists always experience a conflict between inspiration and commercial success. Trust your gut and maintain your integrity. I'm going to upgrade my Patreon subscription again tomorrow. I love what you're doing and applaud your decision.
Ultimately everyone needs to make money, one way or the other, to support their lifestyle and their passions, especially having given up your job as a teacher. I don’t think people would object to a quick mention of, for example, your amazing (Oakley??) sunglasses or the camera equipment that you use. I for one see great value in knowing what camera equipment you are using, although it is mentioned in the descriptions. If companies are willing to pay you for that promotion then so much the better. But I think that when product promotion is ‘in your face’ too much and is a blatant attempt at product placement then this is where you may lose some of your viewers. But then again, when the really keen people, who love Thailand as much as you do, watch the videos they may overlook the product placement and see that as a necessity to fund your adventures and allow you to continue to create the amazing content. My suggestion: continue to work with some companies, and encourage them to allow you to place and mention products to the level at which you feel comfortable. I believe that once your subscriber count increases even further these companies will be more flexible and will allow you to dictate terms with which you feel more comfortable, thereby striking a nice balance between product placement and the needs of your channel from a business and entertainment point of view. I think it's an ok decision to not do it now if you are feeling conflicted about it. But when you produce good content people expect that you are going to get sponsorships. I watch several channels where they do a sponsored video every single video . They used to do them a lot less and while sometimes it is annoying, I sit through it because I want them to make a living for the time they are putting into making their videos. Some people do a good job of incorporating the products into what they are doing that day and those are the ones that I enjoy the most. I think you would do well wit that. Be opened to making a lot of money with your channel, you could potentially be doing this for years and you need and deserve sponsors. People that enjoy your content will keep watching.
Hey Paddy, your channel is growing and you're clearly enjoying making videos so don't "fix" what isn't broken. Deep down, I can see you know you've made the right decision to say no. Sure, quick money is tempting, especially when you've quit your day job, but your videos are refreshingly honest and your personality shines through so if you continue with this winning formula the channel will grow exponentially along with the money it makes you. Just give it time and enjoy the ride. Watching your videos feels like watching a mate but if a mate starts trying to sell to you every time you see them, they'll soon feel pretty lonely. They'll still be a mate - you just won't want to see them very often! You've only got these offers anyway because your videos are great and the more success you get, the more tempting these offers and the money will become! So keep doing what you are doing and when you have a wobble, don't worry, just follow what feels right in your heart. As Ali G would say, "Two words - Keep it real!"

This is what I would recommend. Let the channel grow a bit more organically maybe up to 100K or more subs, then you get a little bit more "negotiating" power with sponsors, if there's a better way to put it, on the artistic direction of your videos. Also study up a bit to boost views using the algorithm, using shorts, polls, etc...

Allow yourself to make a living. Gratitude can actually make you wealthier, too, because people would rather work with or do business with a grateful person. Gratitude can also help you save more money for later.
Love the authenticity of this channel! You take us on a journey with you, through both the good and bad times. I think that as long as you make quality videos, it does not make much difference whether the channel earns from paid promotions, or ads. (they are both a necessary means to an end) If you are happy with your decision, it is the right decision. From my point of view, I enjoy the videos where you are interacting with others, be it other TH-camrs, expats, travellers, or locals. Having fun together. Good luck with your onward journey, but stop breaking your gear!! 🤣🤣
Fair play for not selling out, I am one of the 14%. There are enough adverts to watch on You Tube without the content being another advert! If your channel grew to a ridiculous amount of subscribers would you get more say in the way you would have to present the product? That is the only way that you should be willing to compromise. Otherwise you become a tool for them and not the other way around. I have unsubscribed from a few channels as I consider the maker has become a tool for someone else and have even felt that I myself have been duped into watching yet another advert by someone that I was once willing to support, that person has liteally become a victim of their own success. Keep true to yourself!
Good man. I'm one of the 14% who feels the paid promotions ruin it for me. Channels and creators just lose their authenticity and appeal for me when those start appearing. If you can make enough through views, ads, and patrons, then that's a winning combo. Keep up the good work.

so many emails bro!!! I was all super excited and I was gonna go all in! BUT after watching this video I think I was more excited about the $$ and I realized I need to step back and take a look. You gave me an entirely different perspective that I needed! Thank you. I think I am going to NOT do paid promotions unless it is something I WANT TO DO! So if I find something I like and I use I will reach out to the company myself to do a video for them because then it wont be a paid promotion it will be me speaking about what I like.

I did not click away from this video for a couple of reasons. First, your channel is fantastic, and I just had to know your thought processes and your conclusion. Second, you are the most genuine, witty, and engaging personality I've ever seen on TH-cam--so much so, that even a 20-minute video flies by without feeling too long. That's star quality. Now, about your thoughts and conclusion. There are two TH-cam channels that I watch every day without fail: yours and Seth James DeMoor's. Seth's channel is about running. He started posting daily vlogs on TH-cam five years ago. At first, it was mostly just family stuff, with a little bit of running slipped in. However, Seth soon realized that his best videos were about his passion for running, with some family moments integrated into them. Seth just passed 125,000 subscribers, and now he can support his wife and four kids entirely with TH-cam, while creating outstanding vlogs and being a real artist (just like you). Seth does regular running shoe reviews, but he has refused to accept any sponsors or endorse any particular products because doing so would tie him down and ruin the artistic flow of his vlogs. Instead, he creates a new video every day, grows his channel, strives to constantly improve, and gets paid well to provide great content. Now, not everyone in the world is a runner, so his is a focused audience. Likewise, not everyone cares about Thailand or cares to watch travel vlogs regularly. Both have a finite audience. However, both running and Thailand have millions of fans. If you can reach those fans by consistently providing outstanding content, you can make a lot of money. You don't need to "sell out" to anyone--you are your own master. Still, it's a balancing act as you say. Put no ads in your videos, and your audience will love you. Put too many ads in your videos, and you will lose people. If I'm watching a video with my phone or tablet in my hand, or at my laptop with a mouse, I click "skip" on every single ad. I despise ad interruptions, especially if I'm watching a video in the shower or while I'm too busy to click "skip." Lately, I've watched Seth's videos become increasingly filled with annoying ads that interrupt the flow and require too much skipping, so I'm beginning to skip his content or even just click away entirely when I become too annoyed. The point is, you have to make a living, but be very careful that you don't lose the flow and, as a result, your audience. Balance is everything. You are truly "next level," Paddy. Don't ever drop down to the level of mediocrity.

I appreciate your honestly always, so I'm happy you are staying the way you are. Not every video knocks it out of the park for me, but I still always give them a "like" because I like your enthusiasm and style. When you are down you show it, and when you are up you show it! For me that makes you human and real and I like that. And you have a very entertaining personality.

Very good decision Paddy, I really appreciate your boldness for doing that.. What you have done is saving your artistic side from dying. Because from my experience as an artist (Musician, Singer, Guitarist, Actor, Comedian etc... My artistic side died because I am in the wrong place, unfortunately (my country), where there is no support or even appreciation for artists. That's a different story, but it really hurts me when I think about it, I got busy trying to work and make a living, but because of the obstacle I had, I couldn't do what I love. Keep doing what you are doing and money will come eventually. I have discovered your channel few months ago, but I don't know why I stopped watching (got busy as hell) wasn't watching anything on TH-cam as well. These are actually my fav type of videos .. the travel day videos .. the how the channel and planning actually works. Don't blame you for not wanting the hassle of sponsorships as long as ends are being met with other revenue streams. My biggest frustration with this video is what is the Chiang Mai story? What could not be done from the road? Again .. I like the "in the weeds" videos :) I would have totally watched a "why am I in Chiang Mai and how I got here" video.
You made the right decision. You got to go with how you fell as you get bigger you may have opportunities that are less intrusive and more in line with your brand. We will support you no matter what.

Some product placement is good if its Tech you will use on your travels and your subscribers may find useful in their lives, it's how its packaged, it doesn't need to be too Sales'y and perhaps could take less payment and make it a bit more of a natural/casual plug - while also getting yourself some free new gear.

If you find a good brand that you can have a longterm partnership with that has a product that you 100% recommend and that allows you to incorporate it in your videos how you want, I think you should consider it. I think it's very nice of you to really think this through!
Content is King, you control your growing leverage. When that leverage is at a level which suits the content you enjoy making, you can pick & choose the right brand deals.

Ultimately everyone needs to make money, one way or the other, to support their lifestyle and their passions, especially having given up your job as a teacher. I don’t think people would object to a quick mention of, for example, your amazing (Oakley??) sunglasses or the camera equipment that you use. I for one see great value in knowing what camera equipment you are using, although it is mentioned in the descriptions. If companies are willing to pay you for that promotion then so much the better. But I think that when product promotion is ‘in your face’ too much and is a blatant attempt at product placement then this is where you may lose some of your viewers. But then again, when the really keen people, who love Thailand as much as you do, watch the videos they may overlook the product placement and see that as a necessity to fund your adventures and allow you to continue to create the amazing content. My suggestion: continue to work with some companies, and encourage them to allow you to place and mention products to the level at which you feel comfortable. I believe that once your subscriber count increases even further these companies will be more flexible and will allow you to dictate terms with which you feel more comfortable, thereby striking a nice balance between product placement and the needs of your channel from a business and entertainment point of view. And my offer in Hua Hin still stands :-)

I loved this video, Paddy, and what I loved most about it is that you showed your authenticity and have decided to stay true to yourself with not selling brands in your videos. I think it's an ok decision to not do it now if you are feeling conflicted about it. But when you produce good content people expect that you are going to get sponsorships. I watch several channels where they do a sponsored video every single video . They used to do them a lot less and while sometimes it is annoying, I sit through it because I want them to make a living for the time they are putting into making their videos. Some people do a good job of incorporating the products into what they are doing that day and those are the ones that I enjoy the most. I think you would do well wit that. Be opened to making a lot of money with your channel, you could potentially be doing this for years and you need and deserve sponsors. People that enjoy your content will keep watching.

Deep down, I can see you know you've made the right decision to say no. Sure, quick money is tempting, especially when you've quit your day job, but your videos are refreshingly honest and your personality shines through so if you continue with this winning formula the channel will grow exponentially along with the money it makes you. Just give it time and enjoy the ride. Watching your videos feels like watching a mate but if a mate starts trying to sell to you every time you see them, they'll soon feel pretty lonely. They'll still be a mate - you just won't want to see them very often!
You've only got these offers anyway because your videos are great and the more success you get, the more tempting these offers and the money will become! So keep doing what you are doing and when you have a wobble, don't worry, just follow what feels right in your heart. As Ali G would say, "Two words - Keep it real!"

This is what I would recommend. Let the channel grow a bit more organically maybe up to 100K or more subs, then you get a little bit more "negotiating" power with sponsors, if there's a better way to put it, on the artistic direction of your videos. Also study up a bit to boost views using the algorithm, using shorts, polls, etc...

Love the authenticity of this channel! You take us on a journey with you, through both the good and bad times. I think that as long as you make quality videos, it does not make much difference whether the channel earns from paid promotions, or ads. (they are both a necessary means to an end)
If you are happy with your decision, it is the right decision.
From my point of view, I enjoy the videos where you are interacting with others, be it other TH-camrs, expats, travellers, or locals. Having fun together.

If your channel grew to a ridiculous amount of subscribers would you get more say in the way you would have to present the product? That is the only way that you should be willing to compromise. Otherwise you become a tool for them and not the other way around.
I have unsubscribed from a few channels as I consider the maker has become a tool for someone else and have even felt that I myself have been duped into watching yet another advert by someone that I was once willing to support, that person has liteally become a victim of their own success. Keep true to yourself!
Good call Paddy but don't burn yourself out. If you need to do three rather than 4 per week sometimes feel free and unpressured. Go with the flow.

I did not click away from this video for a couple of reasons. First, your channel is fantastic, and I just had to know your thought processes and your conclusion. Second, you are the most genuine, witty, and engaging personality I've ever seen on TH-cam--so much so, that even a 20-minute video flies by without feeling too long. That's star quality. Now, about your thoughts and conclusion. There are two TH-cam channels that I watch every day without fail: yours and Seth James DeMoor's. Seth's channel is about running. He started posting daily vlogs on TH-cam five years ago. At first, it was mostly just family stuff, with a little bit of running slipped in. However, Seth soon realized that his best videos were about his passion for running, with some family moments integrated into them. Seth just passed 125,000 subscribers, and now he can support his wife and four kids entirely with TH-cam, while creating outstanding vlogs and being a real artist (just like you). Seth does regular running shoe reviews, but he has refused to accept any sponsors or endorse any particular products because doing so would tie him down and ruin the artistic flow of his vlogs. Instead, he creates a new video every day, grows his channel, strives to constantly improve, and gets paid well to provide great content. Now, not everyone in the world is a runner, so his is a focused audience. Likewise, not everyone cares about Thailand or cares to watch travel vlogs regularly. Both have a finite audience. However, both running and Thailand have millions of fans. If you can reach those fans by consistently providing outstanding content, you can make a lot of money. You don't need to "sell out" to anyone--you are your own master. Still, it's a balancing act as you say. Put no ads in your videos, and your audience will love you. Put too many ads in your videos, and you will lose people. If I'm watching a video with my phone or tablet in my hand, or at my laptop with a mouse, I click "skip" on every single ad. I despise ad interruptions, especially if I'm watching a video in the shower or while I'm too busy to click "skip." Lately, I've watched Seth's videos become increasingly filled with annoying ads that interrupt the flow and require too much skipping, so I'm beginning to skip his content or even just click away entirely when I become too annoyed. The point is, you have to make a living, but be very careful that you don't lose the flow and, as a result, your audience. Balance is everything. You are truly "next level," Paddy. Don't ever drop down to the level of mediocrity.

Because from my experience as an artist (Musician, Singer, Guitarist, Actor, Comedian etc... My artistic side died because I am in the wrong place, unfortunately (my country), where there is no support or even appreciation for artists.
That's a different story, but it really hurts me when I think about it, I got busy trying to work and make a living, but because of the obstacle I had, I couldn't do what I love.

These are actually my fav type of videos .. the travel day videos .. the how the channel and planning actually works. Don't blame you for not wanting the hassle of sponsorships as long as ends are being met with other revenue streams. My biggest frustration with this video is what is the Chiang Mai story? What could not be done from the road? Again .. I like the "in the weeds" videos :) I would have totally watched a "why am I in Chiang Mai and how I got here" video.
You made the right decision. You got to go with how you fell as you get bigger you may have opportunities that are less intrusive and more in line with your brand. We will support you no matter what.
